Introduction: Oncoxin-Viusid (OV) has shown antioxidant, immunomodulatory and anti-tumour capabilities in experimental studies on humans and animal subjects. Acute toxicity of Radiation Therapy (RT) and Chemotherapy (CT) in patients with cervical cancer and endometrial adenocarcinoma impact quality of life and, therefore, outcomes of these therapies. Objective: To identify Oncoxin-Viusid’s efficacy in reducing acute toxicity produced by onco-specific treatments in patients with cervical cancer and endometrial adenocarcinoma. Materials and Methods: A controlled, randomised double-blind phase II clinical trial was performed with a sample size of 63 patients distributed into 2 groups: one receiving the standard treatment plus the Oncoxin-Viusid nutritional supplement (OV group) and another receiving the standard treatment and placebo (P group). The primary efficacy variable is the proportion of secondary disruptions to acute adverse reactions produced by RT and CT. Results: The number of patients suffering adverse events from chemotherapy was 20.6% less in the OV group (70.0%) than in the placebo group (90.6%) (p = 0.04). We recorded consistently normal values of haemoglobin (-6.2 OV group vs -8.3 P group, p = 0.009), platelet count (-17.4 OV group vs -27.6 P group, p = 0.009) and leukocytes (-31.8 OV group vs -41.4 P group, p = 0.025) in the OV group, tolerating 4 more cytostatic doses on average than the placebo group. Significant increase in quality of life (QLQ-30) was registered in the OV group with a large effect size on such issues as emotional and social function (Cohen’s d = 0.9), as well as in the reduction of symptoms like dyspnea 60%, insomnia 15% and anorexia 30% (item CX-2), (Cohen’s d = 0.98), which were higher than the placebo group. Conclusions: OV administration reduces onco-specific adverse events and improves quality of life in patients diagnosed with cervical cancer and endometrial adenocarcinoma undergoing radiation therapy and chemotherapy. 展开更多

With the objective of evaluating the effect of VIUSID agro on the morphophysiological and productive performance of tobacco seedlings,a randomised block experiment was designed with five treatments and three replications. The variants were:dosage of 0.2,0.5,0.7 and 1.0 L/ha and one control. The variables are recorded at three points of the cultivation cycle 10th,20th and 30th days after planting(DAP).Among the indicators evaluated were the fresh and dry mass of the plants, the leaves per plant, foliar area, the length and diameter of the stalk as well as the characteristics of the root. The rates of physiological growth and agricultural yield were also evaluated. The results showed a significant increase(p≤0.05)in the fresh and dry mass of the plants when VIUSID was used.Regarding the length of the stalk, the average increases of those treated in comparison to the control in the final evaluation were 28.42%,30.51%,41.17%and 38.43%.In terms of the diameter of the stalk and the foliar area in all evaluations, the treatments with VIUSID significantly exceeded the control. The absolute growth rate and net assimilation was significantly higher when the product was used.In the relative growth rate, the most favourable behaviour was the dosage of 0.5 L/ha,in final evaluation. With regard to yield, the best performance with significant differences(p≤0.05)to the other treatments was the dosage of 0.5,0.7 and 1.0 L/ha.Therefore,VIUSID agro had a positive influence on the morphophysiological and productive indicators of the tobacco seedlings. 展开更多

The objective of this research was to evaluate the impact of the VIUSID Vet(powder and solution)nutritional supplement on the productive performance of growing-finishing pigs. Two experiments were conducted, each using 210 pigs at an average age of 40 d—70 per treatment—which were distributed into 15 pens(five per group). The experiments lasted 170 d.The treatments consisted in:Experiment 1,Group I control group;Group II received from the start 1.5 g of VIUSID Vet powder per kilogram of feed daily for 90 d;Group III same as the former, but instead given 2.0 g.Experiment 2,Group I control;Group II received from the start 1.5 g of VIUSID Vet powder per kilogram of feed daily for 90 d;Group III same as the former, but instead given 1.5 mL of VIUSID Vet solution per kilogram of feed.VIUSID Vet(powder or solution)significantly improved weight gain and feed conversion as well as reduced deaths when given doses of 2.0 g and 1.5 g or 1.5 mL per kilogram of feed during the first 90 d of the growing-finishing phase, giving rise to financial benefits. 展开更多

In order to evaluate the effect of VIUSID agro on the yield response of a pak choi harvest,a randomised block experiment was designed with four treatments and three replications. The treatments were dosages of 0.1,0.2 and 0.3 L/ha and one control. The number of leaves per plant and the fresh and dry mass of the plant were measured. In addition, growth indexes were evaluated, such as relative growth rate, active growth rate, harvest index and agricultural yield. The number of leaves per plant was significantly greater at 35 days after sowing(das)for 0.2 L/ha and 0.3 L/ha treatments, with increases of 15.0%and 14.17%relative to the control.Regarding plant length and fresh mass at the final evaluation, the treatments using higher dosages produced the best results.Regarding the active growth rate, the 0.2 L/ha dosage produced the best effects, and regarding relative growth rate, the 0.2 L/ha and 0.3 L/ha dosages produced the best results relative to the control. The harvest index did not benefit from the used dosages, while a higher agricultural yield was achieved using the 0.2 L/ha and 0.3 L/ha dosages at 18.03%and 12.88%compared to the control. Therefore,VIUSID agro positively influenced the yield behaviour of pak choi. 展开更多

The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of administering VIUSID vet powder on the productive behaviour of sows and the quality of semen of boars. Two experiments were conducted on farms in the province of Sancti Spiritus, in the central region of Cuba. One was with sows, starting 21 days before parturition until weaning, and another was with boars in directed mounting. Each sow received 10 grams of VIUSID vet powder everyday, mixed with food, from 21 days before the probable date of farrowing and until weaning (33-day lactation period). In the boars, the treatment consisted of administering 10 grams of VIUSID vet powder with feed, once a day for 6 weeks (week 1 to 6); from week 7 onwards, the supplement was suspended. Results showed that, supplying VIUSID vet powder significantly improved the principal post-partum productivity indicators and significantly reduced diarrhoea and administration to boars in production for 6 weeks, which has improved spermatic motility and does not affect the other variables representative of the quality of the semen. 展开更多

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of the nutritional supplement VIUSID vet on the mortality and the productivity behaviour of fattening pigs in a low-input farming system. Two experiments were carried out at a pig farm in the municipality of Jatibonico, Sancti Spiritus province, Cuba. The farm has a low level of specialization, pigs are fed using local resources such as sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) juice and locally produced concentrated feed. In both studies, the treatment consisted in administering together with the feed 2.0 g of VIUSID vet per Kg of feed. Results showed that in low-input rearing conditions, supplying VIUSID vet significantly reduced deaths (17.65%) in the pigs treated, favoured leukocyte and lymphocyte counts, and significantly improved weight gain (16.33%) and feed efficiency (14.41%). 展开更多
