One austenitic stainless steel (AISI 316L) and one nickel-base alloy (Alloy 617) have been investigated. Scanning electron microscopy related techniques as electron channelling contrast imaging and electron backscattering diffraction have been used to study the damage and fracture micromechanisms. For both alloys the dominante damage micromech- anisms are slip bands and planar slip interacting with grain bounderies or precipitates causing strain concentrations. The dominante fracture micromechanism when using a slow strain rate at elevated temperature, is microcracks at grain bounderies due to grain boundery embrittlement caused by precipitates. The decrease in strain rate seems to have a small influence on dynamic strain ageing at 650℃.展开更多

Instead of the equi-biaxial tensile test, the plane strain test carried out with the traditional uniaxialtesting machine is suggested to provide the experimental data for calibration of anisotropic yield function. This simplified method byusing plane strain test was adopted to identify the parameters of Yld2000-2d yield function for 5xxx aluminum alloy and AlMgSialloy sheets. The predicted results of yield stresses, anisotropic coefficients and yield loci by the proposed method were very similarwith the experimental data and those by the equi-biaxial tensile test. It is validated that the plane strain test is effective to provideexperimental data instead of equi-biaxial tensile test for calibration of Yld2000-2d yield function.展开更多

These properties are used in determination of effective properties of composites by micromechanics. These are also used in the micromechanical damage modeling. Further, these properties are used as an indicator of the excellence of product by manufacturers. In the present study the axial tensile modulus, ultimate strength and failure strain of single fibres are determined for carbon and glass fibres. ASTM D3379-75 standard is followed and a number of fibers are tested for statistical analysis. The axial tensile moduli measured are 246.7 GPa and 93.3 GPa, respectively and strength are 3031.6 MPa and 2035.9 MPa, respectively for carbon and glass fibres. Further, the respective axial tensile failure strains are 0.0137 and 0.0224. The error in the measurement of axial modulus is below 8% while for axial tensile strength is below 1%.展开更多

The effects of friction coefficients and material parameters on the specimen width associated with the FLDo (W FLD0) in Marciniak test were studied by finite element simulation. WFLD0 was expressed as a function of the Lankford coefficients, n-value, k-value and sheet thickness and validated with various sheet materials. The determination of W FLD0 is of significance not only to reduce iterative attempts to accurately obtain FLDo, but also to obtain a full valid FLD with the least number of test specimens, which largely increases the efficiency and reduces cost to experimentally measure valid FLDs.展开更多

文摘Long-term cyclic train loading can cause settlement and deformation of the roadbed, affecting the normal operation of trains. In order to investigate the strain pattern of reinforced sandy soil under train loading,a series of dynamic triaxial tests were carried out using multi-stage loading, focusing on the effects of the number of reinforcement layers, the confining pressure, and the mesh size of the geogrid on the accumulated plastic strain of reinforced sandy soil. Moreover, prediction models were proposed. The test results show that:1)The cumulative plastic strain versus vibration times of the specimens under different reinforcement layers exhibited three stages, namely, the rapid development stage, the rate transformation stage and the stability stage;2)The cumulative plastic strain decreases with increasing the number of reinforcement layers, but the magnitude of the effect of reinforcement on the cumulative plastic strain decreases with increasing the number of reinforcement layers, increasing the perimeter pressure and decreasing the mesh size of the geogrid have similar effects on the cumulative plastic strain pattern as increasing the number of reinforcement layers;3)Combined with the cumulative plastic strain law,a comprehensive model is proposed and the coefficient of determination is greater than 0.99.Furthermore,The cumulative plastic strain evolution law can be effectively predicted. The significance of parameters A,B and C is analyzed in detail. This study can provide theoretical references for further understanding of the deformation characteristics and settlement prediction of railway subgrades.

文摘We present an assumed enhanced strain finite element framework for the simulation of tensile fracturing processes in transversely isotropic rocks.Fractures along the weak bedding planes and through the anisotropic rock matrix are treated with distinct enrichment, and a recently proposed dualmechanism tensile failure criterion for transversely isotropic rocks is adopted to determine crack initiation for the two failure modes. The cohesive crack model is adopted to characterize the response of embedded cracks. As for the numerical implementation of the proposed framework, both algorithms for the update of local history variables at Gauss points and of the global finite element system are derived.Four boundary-value problem simulations are carried out with the proposed framework, including uniaxial tension tests of Argillite,pre-notched square loaded in tension,three-point bending tests on Longmaxi shale, and simulations of tensile cracks induced by a strip load around a tunnel in transversely isotropic rocks.Simulation results reveal that the proposed framework can properly capture the tensile strength anisotropy and the anisotropic evolution of tensile cracks in transversely isotropic rocks.
文摘Optimum utilization of the loading capability of engineering materials is an important and active contribution to protect nature's limited resources, and it is the key for economic design methods. In order to make use of the materials' resources, those must be known very well;but conventional test methods will offer only limited informational value. The range of questions raised is as wide as the application of engineering materials, and partially they are very specific. The development of huge computer powers enables numeric modelling to simulate structural behaviour in rather complex loading environments-so the real material behaviour is known under the given loading conditions. Here the art of material testing design starts. To study the material behaviour under very distinct and specific loading conditions makes it necessary to simulate different temperature ranges, loading speeds, environments etc.and mostly there doesn't exist any commonly agreed test standard. In this contribution two popular,non-standard test procedures and test systems will be discussed on the base of their application background, special design features as well as test results and typically gained information:The demand for highspeed tests up to 1000 s^(-1) of strain rate is very specific and originates primarily in the automotive industry and the answers enable CAE analysis of crashworthiness of vehicle structures under crash conditions. The information on the material behaviour under multiaxial loading conditions is a more general one.Multiaxial stress states can be reduced to an equivalent stress, which allows the evaluation of the material's constraint and criticality of stress state. Both discussed examples shall show that the open dialogue between the user and the producer of testing machines allows custom-tailored test solutions.

文摘To investigate the zonal disintegration form of the surrounding rock in deep tunnels, model tests were performed in the simulation set-up of fracture mechanism and support technology of surrounding rock in deep tunnel. The test results illustrate that the first fracture of the surrounding rock occurred at the intersection of the tunnel floor and the side wall. After more serious destruction, the side wall and the vault were destroyed.Although the fracture width of each surrounding rock mass was distinct, they were relatively uniform with a nearly continuous fracture form. The width of the split bodies of the model tunnels(i.e.,the annular zonal disintegration area)developed with an increasing load.It was observed from the fitting curves of the data that all radial strain values of the surrounding rock were more symmetric with a smooth fitting curve, and the maximum value occurred near the tunnel wall before reducing instantly. The circumferential strain values were dispersed and the data were inconsistent with the fitting curve, which caused some data to be unreliable. The phenomenon of zonal disintegration was primarily caused by radial tension strain of the surrounding rock. This phenomenon would not extend indefinitely as the rupture range would be limited to a certain extent, because the maximum radial tension strain of the surrounding rock was less than the limiting value.

文摘The equi-biaxial tensile test is often required for parameter identification of anisotropic yield function and it demands thespecial testing technique or device. It is validated that the plane strain test is effective to provideexperimental data instead of equi-biaxial tensile test for calibration of Yld2000-2d yield function.

文摘Dynamical performance of pipes conveying fluid on board is of great importance to the reliability of machinery. The dynamic equation of a simply supported wet pipe conveying fluid is presented, taking structural damping of the pipe and viscidity of the fluid into consideration. And the equation is also solved by using Galerkin's method.Modal identifications based on strain gauge test are carried out on both dry pipes(without fluid in it) and wet pipes(pipes conveying fluid). It is concluded from the comparison of the results that both natural frequency and the damping ratio decrease as the pipe filled with fluid, but the mode shapes vary little.Variation of equivalent damping factor is also tested.Experimental results reveal that the equivalent damping factor of fluid and the damping ratio depend greatly on the initial deformation, and fluid induced damping decreases the universal damping ratio of the pipes conveying fluid.

文摘For a homogeneous, continuous, and isotropic material whose constitutive relationships meets with the Ramberg-Osgood law(R-O law),the energy in the elastoplastic indentation with a ball indenter was theoretically analyzed, and the proportional superposition of energy in pure elasticity and pure plasticity during indentation was considered based on the equivalence of energy density.Subsequently,a Proportional Superposition-based Elasto Plastic Model(PS-EPM)was developed to describe the relationships between the displacement and the load during the ball indentation.Furthermore,a new test method of Ball Indentation based on Elastoplastic Proportional Superposition(BI-EPS)was developed to obtain the constitutive relationships of R-O law materials. The load–displacement curves predicted using the PS-EPM model were found to agree closely with the Finite Element Analysis(FEA)results. Moreover, the stress vs.strain curves predicted using the BI-EPS method were in better agreement with those obtained by FEA.Additionally, ball indentation was performed on eleven types of metal materials including five types of aluminum alloys and six types of steel. The test results showed that the stress vs.strain relationships and the tensile strength values predicted using the proposed BI-EPS method agreed well with the results obtained using conventional uniaxial tensile tests.
文摘The mechanical and damage properties of single fibres used in fibrous composite have gained tremendous importance in recent years. The error in the measurement of axial modulus is below 8% while for axial tensile strength is below 1%.

文摘In this study,pre-strain ranging from 0 to 0.12 was applied through uniaxial tension on high-strength low-alloy(HSLA)specimens with four kinds of grain size.Effect of pre-strain and grain size on me-chanical property was investigated through tensile tests.Microstructures of the pre-strained and tensile tested samples were analyzed, respectively. The 30.8°v-bending and following flattening,as well as Erichson cupping tests, were performed on the pre-strained samples. Results show the elongation ratio of grain and dislocation density increases with pre-strain.Yielding platform is removed when pre-strain is larger than 0.06 while yielding plateau period decreases with pre-strain less than 0.06 due to reduction of pinning effect. The 30.8°v-bending and the following flattening tests are successfully accomplished on all the pre-strained samples with different grain size.Decrease in grain size, along with increase in pre-strain,causes increase in strength and decrease in elongation rate as well as cupping value.Pre-strain causes very slight effect on bending ability, much less than that on mechanical property and cupping test value.Reciprocal impact of the pre-strain and grain size on HSLA steel deformability is inconspicuous.

文摘The influence of strain rate on the mechanics of particles is well documented. However,a comprehensive understanding of the strain rate effect on calcareous particles, particularly in the transition from static to dynamic loading,is still lacking in current literature. This study conducted 720 quasi-static and impact tests on irregular calcareous particles to investigate the macroscopic strain rate effect, and performed numerical simulations on spherical particles to explore the underlying microscopic mechanisms. The strain rate effect on the characteristic particle strength was found to exhibit three regimes:in Regime 1,the particle strength gradually improves when the strain rate is lower than approximately 10^(2)s^(-1);in Regime 2,the particle strength sharply enhances when the strain rate increases from 10^(2)s^(-1)to 10^(4)s^(-1);and in Regime 3,the particle strength remains almost constant when the strain rate is higher than 10^(4)s^(-1).The three-regime strain rate effect is an inherent property of the material and independent of particle shape. The asynchrony between loading and deformation plays a dominant role in these behaviors, leading to a thermoactivation-dominated effect in Regime 1,a macroscopic viscosity-dominated effect in Regime 2,and a combined thermoactivation and macroscopic viscosity-dominated effect in Regime 3.These mechanisms induce a transition in the failure mode from splitting to exploding and then smashing, which increases the energy required to rupture a single bond and, consequently, enhances the particle strength.
文摘Plane-strain forming limit strain (also known as FLD0) is an important data point on a forming limit diagram (FLD). The determination of W FLD0 is of significance not only to reduce iterative attempts to accurately obtain FLDo, but also to obtain a full valid FLD with the least number of test specimens, which largely increases the efficiency and reduces cost to experimentally measure valid FLDs.
