Cropland nitrate leaching is the major nitrogen(N) loss pathway, and it contributes significantly to water pollution. However, cropland nitrate leaching estimates show great uncertainty due to variations in input datasets and estimation methods. Here, we presented a re-evaluation of Chinese cropland nitrate leaching, and identified and quantified the sources of uncertainty by integrating three cropland area datasets, three N input datasets, and three estimation methods. The results revealed that nitrate leaching from Chinese cropland averaged 6.7±0.6 Tg N yr^(-1)in 2010, ranging from 2.9 to 15.8 Tg N yr^(-1)across 27 different estimates. The primary contributor to the uncertainty was the estimation method, accounting for 45.1%, followed by the interaction of N input dataset and estimation method at 24.4%. The results of this study emphasize the need for adopting a robust estimation method and improving the compatibility between the estimation method and N input dataset to effectively reduce uncertainty. This analysis provides valuable insights for accurately estimating cropland nitrate leaching and contributes to ongoing efforts that address water pollution concerns. 展开更多

The objective of reliability-based design optimization(RBDO)is to minimize the optimization objective while satisfying the corresponding reliability requirements. However, the nested loop characteristic reduces the efficiency of RBDO algorithm, which hinders their application to high-dimensional engineering problems. To address these issues, this paper proposes an efficient decoupled RBDO method combining high dimensional model representation(HDMR)and the weight-point estimation method(WPEM).First,we decouple the RBDO model using HDMR and WPEM.Second,Lagrange interpolation is used to approximate a univariate function. Finally, based on the results of the first two steps, the original nested loop reliability optimization model is completely transformed into a deterministic design optimization model that can be solved by a series of mature constrained optimization methods without any additional calculations. Two numerical examples of a planar 10-bar structure and an aviation hydraulic piping system with 28 design variables are analyzed to illustrate the performance and practicability of the proposed method. 展开更多

Hemoglobin is a vital protein in red blood cells responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body. Its accurate measurement is crucial for diagnosing and managing conditions such as anemia and diabetes, where abnormal hemoglobin levels can indicate significant health issues.Traditional methods for hemoglobin measurement are invasive, causing pain, risk of infection, and are less convenient for frequent monitoring.PPG is a transformative technology in wearable healthcare for noninvasive monitoring and widely explored for blood pressure, sleep, blood glucose, and stress analysis. In this work,we propose a hemoglobin estimation method using an adaptive lightweight convolutional neural network(HMALCNN)from PPG.The HMALCNN is designed to capture both fine-grained local waveform characteristics and global contextual patterns, ensuring robust performance across acquisition settings. We validated our approach on two multi-regional datasets containing 152 and 68 subjects, respectively, employing a subjectindependent 5-fold cross-validation strategy. The proposed method achieved root mean square errors(RMSE)of 0.90 and 1.20 g/dL for the two datasets, with strong Pearson correlations of 0.82 and 0.72.We conducted extensive posthoc analyses to assess clinical utility and interpretability.A±1 g/dL clinical error tolerance evaluation revealed that 91.3%and 86.7%of predictions for the two datasets fell within the acceptable clinical range.Hemoglobin range-wise analysis demonstrated consistently high accuracy in the normal and low hemoglobin categories.Statistical significance testing using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test confirmed the stability of performance across validation folds(p>0.05 for both RMSE and correlation).Furthermore, model interpretability was enhanced using Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping(Grad-CAM),supporting the model’s clinical trustworthiness. The proposed HMALCNN offers a computationally efficient, clinically interpretable, and generalizable framework for noninvasive hemoglobin monitoring, with strong potential for integration into wearable healthcare systems as a practical alternative to invasive measurement techniques. 展开更多

This paper aims to enhance the array Beamforming(BF) robustness by tackling issues related to BF weight state estimation encountered in Constant Modulus Blind Beamforming(CMBB). To achieve this, we introduce a novel approach that incorporates an L1-regularizer term in BF weight state estimation. We start by explaining the CMBB formation mechanism under conditions where there is a mismatch in the far-field signal model. Subsequently, we reformulate the BF weight state estimation challenge using a method known as variable-splitting, turning it into a noise minimization problem. This problem combines both linear and nonlinear quadratic terms with an L1-regularizer that promotes the sparsity. The optimization strategy is based on a variable-splitting method, implemented using the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers(ADMM). Furthermore, a variable-splitting framework is developed to enhance BF weight state estimation, employing a Kalman Smoother(KS) optimization algorithm. The approach integrates the Rauch-TungStriebel smoother to perform posterior-smoothing state estimation by leveraging prior data. We provide proof of convergence for both linear and nonlinear CMBB state estimation technology using the variable-splitting KS and the iterated extended Kalman smoother. Simulations corroborate our theoretical analysis, showing that the proposed method achieves robust stability and effective convergence, even when faced with signal model mismatches. 展开更多

To effectively estimate the unknown aerodynamic parameters from the aircraft’s flight data, this paper proposes a novel aerodynamic parameter estimation method incorporating a stacked Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)network model and the Levenberg-Marquardt(LM)method.The stacked LSTM network model was designed to realize the aircraft dynamics modeling by utilizing a frame of nonlinear functional mapping based entirely on the measured input-output data of the aircraft system without requiring explicit postulation of the dynamics. The LM method combines the already-trained LSTM network model to optimize the unknown aerodynamic parameters. The proposed method is applied by using the real flight data, generated by ATTAS aircraft and a bio-inspired morphing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV).The investigation reveals that for the two different flight data, the designed stacked LSTM network structure can maintain the efficacy of the network prediction capability only by appropriately adjusting the dropout rates of its hidden layers without changing other network parameters(i.e.,the initial weights, initial biases, number of hidden cells,time-steps,learning rate, and number of training iterations).Besides, the proposed method’s effectiveness and potential are demonstrated by comparing the estimated results of the ATTAS aircraft or the bio-inspired morphing UAV with the corresponding reference values or wind-tunnel results. 展开更多

Finite Element Method (FEM), when applied to solve problems, has faced some challenges over the years, such as time consumption and the complexity of assumptions. In particular, the making of assumptions has had a significant influence on the accuracy of the method, making it mandatory to carry out sensitivity analysis. The sensitivity analysis helps to identify the level of impact the assumptions have on the method. However, sensitivity analysis via FEM can be very challenging. A priori error estimation, an integral part of FEM, is a basic mathematical tool for predicting the accuracy of numerical solutions. By understanding the relationship between the mesh size, the order of basis functions, and the resulting error, practitioners can effectively design and apply FEM to solve complex Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) with confidence in the reliability of their results. Thus, the coercive property and A priori error estimation based on the L1 formula on a mesh in time and the Mamadu-Njoseh basis functions in space are investigated for a linearly distributed time-order fractional telegraph equation with restricted initial conditions. For this purpose, we constructed a mathematical proof of the coercive property for the fully discretized scheme. Also, we stated and proved a cardinal theorem for a priori error estimation of the approximate solution for the fully discretized scheme. We noticed the role of the restricted initial conditions imposed on the solution in the analysis of a priori error estimation. 展开更多

The estimation of shear strength of rock mass discontinuity is always a focal, but difficult, problem in the field of geotechnical engineering. Considering the disadvantages and limitation of exist- ing estimation methods, a new approach based on the shadow area percentage (SAP) that can be used to quantify surface roughness is proposed in this article. Firstly, by the help of laser scanning technique, the three-dimensional model of the surface of rock discontinuity was established. Secondly, a light source was simulated, and there would be some shadows produced on the model surface. Thirdly, to obtain the value of SAP of each specimen, the shadow detection technique was introduced for use. Fourthly, compared with the result from direct shear testing and based on statistics, an empirical for- mula was found among SAP, normal stress, and shear strength. Data of Yujian (~ River were used as an example, and the following conclusions have been made. (1) In the case of equal normal stress, the peak shear stress is positively proportional to the SAP. (2) The formula for estimating was derived, and the predictions of peak-shear strength made with this equation well agreed with the experimental re- suits obtained in laboratory tests. 展开更多

The attenuation factor or quality factor(Q-factor or Q) has been used to measure the energy attenuation of seismic waves propagating in underground media. Many methods are used to estimate the Q-factor. We propose a method to calculate the Q-factor based on the prestack Q-factor inversion and the generalized S-transform. The proposed method specifies a standard primary wavelet and calculates the cumulative Q-factors; then, it finds the interlaminar Q-factors using the relation between Q and offset(QVO) and the Dix formula. The proposed method is alternative to methods that calculate interlaminar Q-factors after horizon picking. Because the frequency spectrum of each horizon can be extracted continuously on a 2D time–frequency spectrum, the method is called the continuous spectral ratio slope(CSRS) method. Compared with the other Q-inversion methods, the method offers nearly effortless computations and stability, and has mathematical and physical significance. We use numerical modeling to verify the feasibility of the method and apply it to real data from an oilfield in Ahdeb, Iraq. The results suggest that the resolution and spatial stability of the Q-profile are optimal and contain abundant interlaminar information that is extremely helpful in making lithology and fluid predictions. 展开更多

Studies in the coastal area of Bohai Bay,China, from July 2006 to October 2007,suggest that the method of meiofaunal biomass estimation affected the meiofaunal analysis.Conventional estimation methods that use a unique mean individual weight value for nematodes to calculate total biomass may cause deviation of the results.A modified estimation method, named the Subsection Count Method (SCM),was also used to calculate meiofaunal biomass. This entails only a slight increase in workload but generates results of greater accuracy. Results gained using each of these two methods were compared in the present study. The results show that the conventional method generally estimates a meiofaunal biomass. The difference between the two estimation methods was highly significant (P<0.01) for the spring and winter cruises.Furthermore, the estimation method for meiofaunal biomass affected the analysis of horizontal distribution and correlation with environmental factors. These findings highlight the importance of estimation methods for meiofaunal biomass and will hopefully stimulate further investigation and discussion of the topic. 展开更多

Extracting the three-dimensional (3D) information including location and height of a pedestrian is important for vision-based intelligent traffic monitoring systems. This paper tackles the relationship between pixels′ actual size and pixels′ spatial resolution through a new method named pixel-resolution mapping (P-RM). The proposed P-RM method derives the equations for pixels′ spatial resolutions (XY-direction) and object′s height (Z-direction) in the real world, while introducing new tilt angle and mounting height calibration methods that do not require special calibration patterns placed in the real world. Both controlled laboratory and actual world experiments were performed and reported. The tests on 3D mensuration using proposed P-RM method showed overall better than 98.7% accuracy in laboratory environments and better than 96% accuracy in real world pedestrian height estimations. The 3D reconstructed images for measured points were also determined with the proposed P-RM method which shows that the proposed method provides a general algorithm for 3D information extraction. 展开更多

In a test of the weak equivalence principle (WEP) with a rotating torsion pendulum, it is important to estimate the amplitude of the modulation signal with high precision. We use a torsional filter to remove the free oscillation signal and employ the correlation method to estimate the amplitude of the modulation signal. The data analysis of an experiment shows that the uncertainties of amplitude components of the modulation signal obtained by the correlation method are in agreement with those due to white noise. The power spectral density of the modulation signal obtained by the correlation method is about one order higher than the thermal noise limit. It indicates that the correlation method is an effective way to estimate the amplitude of the modulation signal and it is instructive to conduct a high-accuracy WEP test. 展开更多

In this paper,we give improved error estimates for linearized and nonlinear CrankNicolson type finite difference schemes of Ginzburg-Landau equation in two dimensions. For linearized Crank-Nicolson scheme,we use mathematical induction to get unconditional error estimates in discrete L^(2)and H^(1)norm.However,it is not applicable for the nonlinear scheme. Thus, based on a‘cut-off’function and energy analysis method,we get unconditional L^(2)and H^(1)error estimates for the nonlinear scheme,as well as boundedness of numerical solutions. In addition,if the assumption for exact solutions is improved compared to before, unconditional and optimal pointwise error estimates can be obtained by energy analysis method and several Sobolev inequalities. Finally, some numerical examples are given to verify our theoretical analysis. 展开更多

The accurate estimation of parameters is the premise for establishing a high-fidelity simulation model of a valve-controlled cylinder system.Bench test data are easily obtained, but it is challenging to emulate actual loads in the research on parameter estimation of valve-controlled cylinder system.Despite the actual load information contained in the operating data of the control valve, its acquisition remains challenging. This paper proposes a method that fuses bench test and operating data for parameter estimation to address the aforementioned problems. The proposed method is based on Bayesian theory, and its core is a pool fusion of prior information from bench test and operating data.Firstly,a system model is established, and the parameters in the model are analysed.Secondly, the bench and operating data of the system are collected. Then, the model parameters and weight coefficients are estimated using the data fusion method. Finally, the estimated effects of the data fusion method,Bayesian method, and particle swarm optimisation(PSO)algorithm on system model parameters are compared. The research shows that the weight coefficient represents the contribution of different prior information to the parameter estimation result. The effect of parameter estimation based on the data fusion method is better than that of the Bayesian method and the PSO algorithm.Increasing load complexity leads to a decrease in model accuracy, highlighting the crucial role of the data fusion method in parameter estimation studies. 展开更多

The law of variation of deep rock stress in gravitational and tectonic stress fields is analyzed based on the Hoek-Brown strength criterion. In the gravitational stress field, the rocks in the shallow area are in an elastic state and the deep, relatively soft rock may be in a plastic state. However,in the tectonic stress field, the relatively soft rock in the shallow area is in a plastic state and the deep rock in an elastic state. A method is proposed to estimate stress values in coal and soft rock based on in-situ measurements of hard rock. Our estimation method relates to the type of stress field and stress state. The equations of rock stress in various stress states are presented for the elastic, plastic and critical states. The critical state is a special stress state, which indicates the conversion of the elastic to the plastic state in the gravitational stress field and the conversion of the plastic to the elastic state in the tectonic stress field. Two cases stud-ies show that the estimation method is feasible. 展开更多

Human posture estimation is a prominent research topic in the fields of human-com-puter interaction, motion recognition, and other intelligent applications. However, achieving highaccuracy in key point localization, which is crucial for intelligent applications, contradicts the lowdetection accuracy of human posture detection models in practical scenarios. To address this issue,a human pose estimation network called AT-HRNet has been proposed, which combines convolu-tional self-attention and cross-dimensional feature transformation.AT-HRNet captures significantfeature information from various regions in an adaptive manner, aggregating them through convolu-tional operations within the local receptive domain. The residual structures TripNeck and Trip-Block of the high-resolution network are designed to further refine the key point locations, wherethe attention weight is adjusted by a cross-dimensional interaction to obtain more features. To vali-date the effectiveness of this network,AT-HRNet was evaluated using the COCO2017 dataset.Theresults show that AT-HRNet outperforms HRNet by improving 3.2%in mAP,4.0%in AP75,and3.9%in AP^(M).This suggests that AT-HRNet can offer more beneficial solutions for human posture estimation. 展开更多
