Inlet temperatures varied from 373 K to 663 K, with heat flux rang- ing from 300 kW/m2 to 550 kW/m2. Comparative analyses between predicted and experimental results were used to evaluate the ability of turbulence models to respond to variable thermophysical properties of hydrocarbon fuel at supercritical pressure. It was found that the prediction performance of turbulence models is mainly determined by the damping function, which enables them to respond differently to local flow conditions. Although prediction accuracy for experimental results varied from condition to condition, the shear stress transport (SST) and launder and sharma models performed better than all other models used in the study. For very small buoyancy-influenced runs, the thermal-induced acceleration due to variations in density lead to the impairment of heat transfer occurring in the vicinity of pseudo-critical points, and heat transfer was enhanced at higher temperatures through the combined action of four thermophysical properties: density, viscosity, thermal conductivity and specific heat. The compressibility effect of density gradient, pressure dilatation and turbulent Mach number is accounted. In order to reduce confusions between model uncertainties and discretization errors, the formally fifth-order explicit weighted compact nonlinear scheme (WCNS-E-5) is adopted for convection terms, and a fourth-order staggered central difference scheme is applied for viscous terms. The 15° and 34° compression comers at Mach number 9.22 are investigated. Numerical results show that the original SST model is superior to the original S-A model in the resolution of separated regions and predictions of wall pressures and wall heat-flux rates. The capability of the S-A model can be largely improved by blending Catris' and Shur's compressibility corrections. Among the three corrections of the SST model listed in the present paper, Catris' modification brings the best results. However, the dissipation and pressure dilatation corrections result in much larger separated regions than that of the experiment, and are much worse than the original SST model as well as the other two corrections. The correction of turbulent Mach number makes the separated region slightly smaller than that of the original SST model. Some results of low-order schemes are also presented. When compared to the results of the high-order schemes, the separated regions are smaller, and the peak wall pressures and peak heat-flux rates are lower in the region of the reattachment points.展开更多

To validate the numerical model, the equilibrium profiles of local scour for two cases are simulated and compared with the experimental data. It shows that the RNG turbulence model can give an appropriate prediction for the configuration of equilibrium scour hole, and it is applicable to this situation. The local scour mechanism around submarine pipelines including the flow structure, shear stress distribution and pressure field is then analyzed and compared with experiments. For further comparison and validation, especially for the flow structure, a numerical calculation employing the large eddy simulation (LES) is also conducted. The numerical results of RNG demonstrate that the critical factor governing the equilibrium profile is the seabed shear stress distribution in the case of bed load sediment transport, and the two-equation RNG turbulence model coupled with the law of wall is capable of giving a satisfying estimation for the bed shear stress. Moreover, the piping phenomena due to the great difference of pressure between the upstream and downstream parts of pipelines and the vortex structure around submarine pipelines are also simulated successfully, which are believed to be the important factor that lead to the onset of local scour.展开更多

However, the closure coefficients of RANS turbulence models are determined by model builders according to some simple fundamental flows, and the suggested values may not be applicable to complex flows, especially supersonic jet interaction flow. In this work, the Bayesian method is employed to recalibrate the closure coefficients of Spalart-Allmaras(SA) turbulence model to improve its performance in supersonic jet interaction problem and quantify the uncertainty of wall pressure and separation length. The embedded model error approach is applied to the Bayesian uncertainty analysis. Firstly, the total Sobol index is calculated by non-intrusive polynomial chaos method to represent the sensitivity of wall pressure and separation length to model parameters. Then, the pressure data and the separation length are respectively served as calibration data to get the posterior uncertainty of model parameters and Quantities of Interests(Qo Is). The results show that the relative error of the wall pressure predicted by the SA turbulence model can be reduced from 14.99% to 2.95% through effective Bayesian parameter estimation. Besides, the calibration effects of four likelihood functions are systematically evaluated. The posterior uncertainties of wall pressure and separation length estimated by different likelihood functions are significantly discrepant, and the Maximum a Posteriori(MAP) values of parameters inferred by all functions show better performance than the nominal values. Finally, the closure coefficients are also estimated at different jet total pressures. The similar posterior distributions of model parameters are obtained in different cases, and the MAP values of parameters calibrated in one case are also applicable to other cases.展开更多

Through direct numerical simulation (DNS) of supersonic compression ramp flow, we find the value of entropy is monotonously decreasing along the wall-normal direction no matter in the attached or the separated region. Based on this feature, a new version of Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model (BL-entropy) is proposed in this paper. The supersonic compression ramp and cavity-ramp flows in which the original Baldwin-Lomax model fails to get convergent solutions are chosen to evaluate the performance of this model. Results from one-equation Spalart-Allmaras model (SA) and two-equation Wilcox k-x model are also included to compare with available experimental and DNS data. It is shown that BLentropy could conquer the essential deficiency of the original version by providing a more physically meaningful length scale in the complex flows. Moreover, this method is simple, computationally efficient and general, making it applicable to other models related with the supersonic boundary layer.展开更多

The main concerns are addressed to the evaluation of turbulence models and the using of grid adaptation techniques. The investigation focuses on two configurations, related to hypersonic and subsonic experiments. The applicability tests of different turbu- lence models are conducted on the level of two-equation models calculating the steady state solution of the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) equations. All used models, the original Wilcox k-co, the Menter shear-stress transport (SST) and the ex- plicit algebraic Reynolds stress model(EARSM) formulation, predict an asymmetric base flow in both cases caused by the support of the models. A comparison with preliminary experimental results indicates a preference for the SST and EARSM results over the results from the older k-co model. Sensitivity studies show no significant influence of the grid topology or the location of the laminar to turbulent transition on the base flow field, but a strong influence of even small angles of attack is reported from the related experiments.展开更多

Moreover, the piping phenomena due to the great difference of pressure between the upstream and downstream parts of pipelines and the vortex structure around submarine pipelines are also simulated successfully, which are believed to be the important factor that lead to the onset of local scour.

文摘The Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) models are still the workhorse in current engineering applications due to its high efficiency and robustness. The similar posterior distributions of model parameters are obtained in different cases, and the MAP values of parameters calibrated in one case are also applicable to other cases.

文摘Entropy represents the dissipation rate of energy. Moreover, this method is simple, computationally efficient and general, making it applicable to other models related with the supersonic boundary layer.
文摘The flow field of liquid phase (water) of agitated extraction columns is simulated with the help of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Four kinds of Reynolds-averaged turbulence models, i.e. the standard k-ε model, the RNG (renormalization group) k-s model, the realizable k-ε model and the Reynolds stress model, are compared in detail in order to judge which is the best model in terms of the accuracy, less CPU time and memory required. The performance of the realizable k-s model is obviously improved by reducing the model constant from C2 = 1.90 to C2 = 1.61. It is concluded that the improved realizable k-e model is the optimal model.
文摘From the controlling equations of atmosphere motion, Prandtl's mixing length theory is used to derive the atmospheric turbulence models, such as Burgers equation model and Burgers-KdV equation model. And then the projective Riccati equations are applied to solve these atmospheric turbulence models, where much more patterns are obtained, including solitary wave pattern, singular pattern, and so on.

文摘Data-driven turbulence modeling studies have reached such a stage that the basic framework is settled, but several essential issues remain that strongly affect the performance. Two problems are studied in the current research:(1)the processing of the Reynolds stress tensor and(2)the coupling method between the machine learning model and flow solver. For the Reynolds stress processing issue,we perform the theoretical derivation to extend the relevant tensor arguments of Reynolds stress. Then, the tensor representation theorem is employed to give the complete irreducible invariants and integrity basis. An adaptive regularization term is employed to enhance the representation performance. For the coupling issue,an iterative coupling framework with consistent convergence is proposed and then applied to a canonical separated flow. The results have high consistency with the direct numerical simulation true values, which proves the validity of the current approach.

文摘The flows behind the base of a generic rocket, at both hypersonic and subsonic flow conditions, are numerically studied. Sensitivity studies show no significant influence of the grid topology or the location of the laminar to turbulent transition on the base flow field, but a strong influence of even small angles of attack is reported from the related experiments.
文摘A steady three-dimensional fluid flow and solidification model was built based on CFD software by high-Reynolds-number and Lam-Bremhorst low-Reynolds-number k-ε model.During the simulation, the fixed-grid enthalpy-porosity technique was used to represent the solidification, and Darcy law was adopted to simulate the flow in mushy region. The prediction for steel flow and solidification was evaluated by the comparison of two turbulence models. It is found that both Lam-Bremhorst low-Reynolds-number and high-Reynolds-number k-ε models predict the same trend of the steel flow and temperature distribution. However, due to the effect of turbulent flow on heat transfer, the low-Reynolds-number turbulence model predicts longer penetration depth of molten steel in sub-mold region, less shell growth and higher shell surface temperature at the narrow face compared with standard k-ε model.

文摘Five turbulence models of Reynolds average Navier-Stokes(RANS),including the standard k-ω model, the RNG k-e model taking into account the low Reynolds number effect, the realizable k-ω model, the SST k-ω model, and the Reynolds stress model(RSM),are employed in the numerical simulations of direct current(DC)arc plasma torches in the range of arc current from 80 A to 240 A and air gas flow rate from 10 m^3 h^-1 to 50 m^3 h^-1.The calculated voltage, electric field intensity, and the heat loss in the arc chamber are compared with the experiments. The results indicate that the arc voltage, the electric field, and the heat loss in the arc chamber calculated by using the standard k-ω model, the RNG k-ωmodel taking into account the low Reynolds number effect, and the realizable k-ω model are much larger than those in the experiments. The RSM predicts relatively close results to the experiments, but fails in the trend of heat loss varying with the gas flow rate. The calculated results of the SST k-ω model are in the best agreement with the experiments, which may be attributed to the reasonable predictions of the turbulence as well as its distribution.

文摘With the rapid development of artificial intelligence techniques such as neural networks,data-driven machine learning methods are popular in improving and constructing turbulence models. For high Reynolds number turbulence in aerodynamics, our previous work built a data-driven model applicable to subsonic airfoil flows with different free stream conditions. The results calculated by the proposed model are encouraging. In this work,we aim to model the turbulence of transonic wing flows with fully connected deep neural networks, where there is less research at present. The proposed model is driven by two flow cases of the ONERA(Office National d'Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiales)wing and coupled with the Navier-Stokes equation solver.Four subcritical and transonic benchmark cases of different wings are used to evaluate the model performance. The iteration process is stable, and final convergence is achieved. The proposed model can be used to surrogate the traditional Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes turbulence model.Compared with the data calculated by the Spallart-Allmaras model, the results show that the proposed model can be well generalized to the test cases. The mean relative error of the drag coefficient at different sections is below 4%for each case. This work demonstrates that modeling turbulence by data-driven methods is feasible and that our modeling pattern is effective.
文摘A numerical simulation of shock wave turbulent boundary layer interaction induced by a 24° compression corner based on Gao-Yong compressible turbulence model was presented. The convection terms and the diffusion terms were calculated using the second-order AUSM(advection upstream splitting method) scheme and the second-order central difference scheme, respectively. The Runge-Kutta time marching method was employed to solve the governing equations for steady state solutions.Significant flow separation-region which indicates highly non-isotropic turbulence structure has been found in the present work due to intensity interaction under the 24° compression corner.Comparisons between the calculated results and experimental data have been carried out, including surface pressure distribution,boundary-layer static pressure profiles and mean velocity profiles. The numerical results agree well with the experimental values, which indicate Gao-Yong compressible turbulence model is suitable for the prediction of shock wave turbulent boundary layer interaction in two-dimensional compression corner flows.

文摘The Rotation and Curvature(RC)correction is an important turbulence model modifi-cation approach, and the Spalart-Allmaras model with the RC correction(SA-RC)has been exten-sively studied and used.As a multiplier of the modelling equation’s production term, the rotation function f_(r1)should have a cautiously designed value range, but its limit varies in different models and flow solvers. Therefore, the need of restriction is discussed theoretically, and the common range of f_(r1)is explored in Burgers vortexes.Afterwards, the SA-RC model with different limits is tested numerically.Negative f_(r1)always appears in the SA-RC model, and the difference between simula-tion results brought by the limits is not negligible.A lower limit of 0 enhances turbulence produc-tion,and therefore the vortex structures are dissipated faster and shrink in size, while an upper limit plays an opposite role.Considering that the lower limit of 0 usually promotes the simulation accu-racy and fixes the numerical defect, whereas the upper limit worsens the predictive performance in most cases,it is recommended to limit f_(r1)non-negative while utilizing the SA-RC model. In addi-tion,the RC-corrected model has a better prediction of the attached flow near curved walls, while the SA-Helicity model largely improves the simulation accuracy of three-dimensional large-scale vortices. The model combining both corrections has the potential to become more adaptive and more accurate.
