By means of the PDF method, a general statistical moment turbulence modulation model without considering the trajectory difference between two phases is derived from the Navier–Stokes equations. A new turbulence production term induced by the dispersed-phase is analyzed and considered. Furthermore, the trajectory difference between two media is taken into account. Subsequently, a new k–ε turbulence modulation model in dilute particle-laden flow is successfully set up. Then, the changes to several terms, including the turbulence production, dissipation, and diffusion terms, are well described consequently. The promoted model provides a more probable explanation for the modification of particles on the turbulence. Finally, we applied the model to simulate a gas–particle turbulence flow case in a wall jet, and found that the simulation results agree well with the experimental data.展开更多

The underlying mechanism of two-phase flow characteristics in macro- and intermediate roughness conditions were analyzed in an experimental setup assembled at the Laboratory of Hydraulic Protection of the Territory (PITLAB) of the University of Pisa, Italy. Crushed angular rocks and hemispherical boulders were used to intensify the roughness of the bed. Flow rates per unit width ranging between 0.03 m^2/s and 0.09 m^2/s and slopes between 0.26 and 0.46 were tested over different arrangements of a rough bed. Analyses were mainly carried out in the inner flow region, which consists of both bubbly and intermediate flow regions. The findings revealed that the two-phase flow properties over the rough bed were much affected by rough bed arrangements. Turbulence features of two-phase flows over the rough bed were compared with those of the stepped chute data under similar flow conditions. Overall, the results highlight the flow features in the inner layers of the two-phase flow, showing that the maximum turbulence intensity decreases with the relative submergence, while the bubble frequency distribution is affected by the rough bed elements.展开更多

In the model, liquid phase turbulence is split into shear-induced and bubble- induced turbulence. Single-phase standard k-e model is used to compute shear-induced turbulence and another transport equation is added to model bubble-induced turbulence. In the latter transport equation, energy loss due to interface drag is the production term, and the characteristic length of bubble-induced turbulence, simply the bubble diameter in this work, is introduced to model the dissipation term. The simulated results agree well with experimental data of the test cases and it is demonstrated that the proposed dual-scale turbulence model outperforms other models. Analysis of the predicted turbulence shows that the main part of turbulent kinetic en- ergy is the bubble-induced one while the shear-induced turbulent viscosity predominates within turbulent vis- cosity, especially at the pipe center. The underlying reason is the apparently different scales for the two kinds of turbulence production mechanisms: the shear-induced turbulence is on the scale of the whole pipe while the bubble-induced turbulence is on the scale of bubble diameter. Therefore, the model reflects the multi-scale phe- nomenon involved in gas-liquid bubbly flows.展开更多

In ori...The lower-upper symmetric Gauss-Seidel (LU-SGS) implicit relaxation has been widely used because it has the merits of less dependency on grid topology, low numerical complexity and modest memory requirements. In original LU-SGS scheme, the implicit system matrix is constructed based on the splitting of convective flux Jacobian according to its spectral radius. Although this treatment has the merit of reducing computational complexity and helps to ensure the diagonally dominant property of the implicit system matrix, it can also cause serious distortions on the implicit system matrix because too many approximations are introduced by this splitting method if the contravariant velocity is small or close to sonic speed. To overcome this shortcoming, an improved LU-SGS scheme with a hybrid construction method for the implicit system matrix is developed in this paper. The hybrid way is that: on the cell faces having small contravariant velocity or transonic contravariant velocity, the accurate derivative of the convective flux term is used to construct more accurate implicit system matrix, while the original Jacobian splitting method is adopted on the other cell faces to reduce computational complexity and ensure the diagonally dominant property of the implicit system matrix. To investigate the convergence performance of the improved LU-SGS scheme, 2D and 3D turbulent flows around the NACA0012 airfoil, RAE2822 airfoil and LANN wing are simulated on hybrid unstructured meshes. The nu- merical results show that the improved LU-SGS scheme is significantly more efficient than the original LU-SGS scheme.展开更多

In the cur- rent second-order SGS model, the SGS stress is a function of both the resolved strain-rate and rotation-rate tensors, and the model parameters are obtained from the dimensional consistency and the invariants of the strain-rate and the rotation-rate tensors. In the numerical calculation, the finite volume method is used to discretize the governing equations with a staggered grid system. The SIMPLEC algorithm is applied for the solution of the discretized governing equations. Body- fitted coordinates are used to simulate the two-phase flows in complex geometries. Finally the second-order dynamic SGS model is successfully applied to simulate the dense turbu-lent particle-liquid two-phase flows in a centrifugal impeller. 文摘Liquid-liquid dispersion is often performed in stirred tanks, which are valued for their ease of operation, high droplet generation rate and effective droplet dispersion. Many relevant simulations use the Eulerian-Eulerian method, combining population balance equations with statistical models to forecast droplet breakage.Conversely, the Eulerian-Lagrangian(E-L)method provides precise tracking of individual droplets, which is crucial for simulating dispersion processes.However,E-L simulation faces challenges in integrating droplet breakage effectively. To address this issue, our research introduces a probabilistic approach for droplet breakages. It assumes that a longer time increases the likelihood of breakup;a droplet breaks if the calculated probability exceeds a random value from 0 to 1.Consequently,the simulated breakage frequency becomes independent of the Lagrangian time step. The Sauter mean diameter and droplet size distribution can be accurately predicted by this probabilistic approach.By closely monitoring droplet motion,we reveal the complexity of droplet trajectories and the detailed patterns of circulation in stirred tanks. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of liquidliquid dispersion dynamics.
文摘In this study, the flow characteristics around a group of three piers arranged in tandem were investigated both numerically and experimentally. The simulation utilised the volume of fluid(VOF)model in conjunction with the k–ɛmethod(i.e.,for flow turbulence representations),implemented through the ANSYS FLUENT software,to model the free-surface flow. The simulation results were validated against laboratory measurements obtained using an acoustic Doppler velocimeter. The comparative analysis revealed discrepancies between the simulated and measured maximum velocities within the investigated flow field. However, the numerical results demonstrated a distinct vortex-induced flow pattern following the first pier and throughout the vicinity of the entire pier group, which aligned reasonably well with experimental data.In the heavily narrowed spaces between the piers, simulated velocity profiles were overestimated in the free-surface region and underestimated in the areas near the bed to the mid-stream when compared to measurements. These discrepancies diminished away from the regions with intense vortices, indicating that the employed model was capable of simulating relatively less disturbed flow turbulence.Furthermore, velocity results from both simulations and measurements were compared based on velocity distributions at three different depth ratios(0.15,0.40,and 0.62)to assess vortex characteristic around the piers. This comparison revealed consistent results between experimental and simulated data. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of flow dynamics around complex interactive pier systems, which is critical for designing stable and sustainable hydraulic structures.Furthermore, the insights gained from this study provide valuable information for engineers aiming to develop effective strategies for controlling scour and minimizing destructive vortex effects, thereby guiding the design and maintenance of sustainable infrastructure.

文摘In order to account for the effect of particle existence on gas-particle turbulence flow in large-eddy simulation (LES),a new gas-particle turbulent kinetic energy subgrid-scale (SGS) turbulence model is established, and the effect of particle wake is also considered in gas turbulent kinetic energy SGS turbulence model.Simulation of gas-particle turbulence flow in backward-facing step is carried out by LES using present model and by unified second-order moment (USM) model. The prediction statistical results including mean velocity and fluctuation velocity by LES using present model are in reasonable agreement with the experimental results. It is shown that present model is with higher calculating accuracy than USM model, which indicates that the turbulent kinetic energy SGS turbulence model is suitable.

文摘The lower-upper symmetric Gauss-Seidel (LU-SGS) implicit relaxation has been widely used because it has the merits of less dependency on grid topology, low numerical complexity and modest memory requirements. The nu- merical results show that the improved LU-SGS scheme is significantly more efficient than the original LU-SGS scheme.

文摘This paper reviews the authors' recent studies on compressible turbulence by using direct numerical simulation (DNS),including DNS of isotropic(decaying) turbulence, turbulent mixing-layer,turbulent boundary-layer and shock/boundary-layer interaction.Turbulence statistics, compressibility effects, turbulent kinetic energy budget and coherent structures are studied based on the DNS data. The mechanism of sound source in turbulent flows is also analyzed. It shows that DNS is a powerful tool for the mechanistic study of compressible turbulence.
文摘A mathematical model is set to evaluate the 3-D dense solid-liquid two-phaseturbulent flow in a non-clogging mud pump, the flow feature in the impeller channel is simulatedwith the tool of IPSA. Meanwhile, resort to TECPLOT as the post-processor, the simulation results isvisualized. The results show the main flow characteristics: There exists backflow and aberrantvelocities at inlet area and a relative velocity slip between two phases; A jet-wake flow pattern isdiscerned around the shroud-suction side area; The relative velocity vector of solid phase iscloser to the pressure surface than that of liquid phase and the trend is more obvious with theincrease of diameter; The kinetic energy of turbulence k and the dissipation rate e reach theirpeaks at the corner of pressure and suction surface. The simulation results show a good agreementwith the experimental flow features in the impeller channel, which prove the turbulent model used isvalid and provide a theoretical design basis to non-clogging pumps.
文摘The aim of this paper is to study the effect of agitator’s types on the turbulent flows in stirred tanks without and with baffles. The hydrodynamics behavior induced by four different agitator’s types:a Rushton turbine(RT),a circular blade turbine(CBT),a diverging triangular blade turbine(DTBT)and converging triangular blade turbine(CTBT)are numerically predicted by solving the Navier-Stokes equations and RNGκ–εturbulent model. The simulations are carried out using the Multi Reference Frame(MRF)approach. The numerical results showed good agreement with experiment. We find that the agitator CTBT gives an important profit on the power consumption per report/ratio the others and DTBT give a good reduction of the vortex size of the impeller angles.

文摘An improved large eddy simulation using a dynamic second-order sub-grid-scale (SGS) stress model has been developed to model the governing equations of dense turbulent particle-liquid two-phase flows in a rotating coordinate system, and continuity is conserved by a mass-weighted method to solve the filtered governing equations. The predicted pressure and velocity distributions are in good agreement with experimental results.
