This article is a part of a larger study called The Abstract Truth of Media focused on the topic of the fictional media content opinions presented and perceived as truth.It will explore the abstract nature of truth in...This article is a part of a larger study called The Abstract Truth of Media focused on the topic of the fictional media content opinions presented and perceived as truth.It will explore the abstract nature of truth in online media and its different forms.These media truths are types of fictional stories with certain effects on the public rather than a truthful presentation of the facts.Thus,the end goal of mass media today is not to tell the truth,but to create moral communities based on common experience and beliefs.Articles,opinions,and news in media are seen as a narrative strategy that can be understood only through storytelling analysis.Here the focus is on the understanding of Truth and Untruth in online media as well as the connection of Internet media technology with the increase of disinformation online.The new media model creates hostile groups instead of generating consent for the nation-state,the new online media model within through,Pseudo-communication,manipulation,delusion,lies,propaganda,and deliberate causing of moral anger.“The end of the truth”means that the truth on the Internet is lost among the vast amount of information and the lack of regulation regarding the correctness of the published data.Instead of truth,media researchers formally talk about post-truth,fake news,and“alternative facts”.Truth on the Internet is more like“Truthiness”or a belief that a statement is true based on the intuition or understanding of individuals,regardless of evidence,logic or facts.The subject of research is the connection between every new technology in mass media and the truth of the information and the effects on the consensus in society.Since the beginning of the 21st century,misinformation on the Internet has increased with the development of online media and social networks,and it is a problem of social peace and consent in every country.展开更多

Rumor Control(RC),aimed at minimizing the spread of rumors in social networks,is of paramount importance,as the spread of rumors can lead to significant economic losses,societal disruptions,and even widespread panic.T...Rumor Control(RC),aimed at minimizing the spread of rumors in social networks,is of paramount importance,as the spread of rumors can lead to significant economic losses,societal disruptions,and even widespread panic.The RC problem has garnered extensive research attention,however,most existing solutions for rumor control face a trade-off between efficiency and effectiveness,which limits their practical application in real-world scenarios.In this light,this paper studies the Truth-spreading-based Rumor Control(TRC)problem,and introduces the Subgraphbased Greedy algorithm Optimized with CELF(SGOC),which employs subgraph techniques and the CELF strategy,as the basic solution for the TRC problem.To improve the performance of SGOC,we carefully design a shortest path length dictionary SPR and an Immune Nodes Set(INS),leading to the Shortest Path-Based Rumor Control(SPRC)algorithm.To further enhance the SPRC algorithm,we develop a pruning method that accelerates the construction process of INS,proposing the Improved Shortest Path-Based Rumor Control(ISPRC)algorithm,which demonstrates superior efficiency compared to both SPRC and SGOC.Extensive experiments conducted on five real-world datasets,demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithms.展开更多

Existing text truth discovery methods fail to address two challenges:the inherent long-distance dependencies and thematic diversity of long texts;the inherent subjective sentiment that obscures objective evaluation of...Existing text truth discovery methods fail to address two challenges:the inherent long-distance dependencies and thematic diversity of long texts;the inherent subjective sentiment that obscures objective evaluation of source reliability.To address these challenges,a novel truth discovery method named large language model(LLM)-enhanced text truth discovery with dual attention(LTDDA)is proposed.First,LLMs generate embedded representations of text claims,and enhance the feature space to tackle long-distance dependencies and thematic diversity.Then,the complex relationship between source reliability and claim credibility is captured by integrating semantic and sentiment features.Finally,dual-layer attention is applied to extract key semantic information and assign consistent weights to similar sources,resulting in accurate truth outputs.Extensive experiments on three realworld datasets demonstrate that the effectiveness of LTDDA outperforms that of state-of-the-art methods,providing new insights for building more reliable and accurate text truth discovery systems.展开更多

The present study explores the prediction ability of MAXENT using a very low sample size by applying jackknife analysis over a well defined smaller region and using only climate data. Vanda bicolor is a horticulture important orchid grown in certain patches of North Eastern region of India and the species considered to be “Vulnerable”. Present study reports a distribution prediction model using different geo-climatic parameters for a small area. Model validation by ground truthing gives a significant successful result which clearly defines the ability of MAXENT prediction model to give high success rate (71%) with low training samples. Use of the low sample size over a larger area results in unstable models however application of these samples in smaller radius around the occurrence points could provide good working models.展开更多

Because ambient seismic noise provides estimated Green’s function (EGF) between two sites with high accuracy, Rayleigh wave propagation along the path connecting the two sites is well resolved. Therefore, earthquak...Because ambient seismic noise provides estimated Green’s function (EGF) between two sites with high accuracy, Rayleigh wave propagation along the path connecting the two sites is well resolved. Therefore, earthquakes which are close to one seismic station can be well located with calibration extracting from EGF. We test two algorithms in locating the 1998 Zhangbei earthquake, one algorithm is waveform-based, and the other is traveltime-based. We first compute EGF between station ZHB (a station about 40 km away from the epicenter) and five IC/IRIS stations. With the waveform-based approach, we calculate 1D synthetic single-force Green’s functions between ZHB and other four stations, and obtain traveltime corrections by correlating synthetic Green’s functions with EGFs in period band of 10–30 s. Then we locate the earthquake by minimizing the differential travel times between observed earthquake waveform and the 1D synthetic earthquake waveforms computed with focal mechanism provided by Global CMT after traveltime correction from EGFs. This waveform-based approach yields a location which error is about 13 km away from the location observed with InSAR. With the traveltime-based approach, we begin with measuring group velocity from EGFs as well as group arrival time on observed earthquake waveforms, and then locate the earthquake by minimizing the difference between observed group arrival time and arrival time measured on EGFs. This traveltime-based approach yields accuracy of 3 km, Therefore it is feasible to achieve GT5 (ground truth location with accuracy 5 km) with ambient seismic noises. The less accuracy of the waveform-based approach was mainly caused by uncertainty of focal mechanism.展开更多
