Predictive modeling for mechanical properties of cold-rolled strip steel based on random forest regression and whale optimization algorithm

In response to the challenges of inadequate predictive accuracy and limited generalization capability in data-driven modeling for the mechanical properties of the cold-rolled strip steel,a predictive modeling method named RFR-WOA is developed based on random forest regression(RFR)and whale optimization algorithm(WOA).Firstly,using Pearson and Spearman correlation analysis and Gini coefficient importance ranking on an actual production dataset containing 37,878 samples,22 key variables are selected as model inputs from 112 variables that affect mechanical properties.Subsequently,an RFR-based predictive model for the mechanical properties of cold-rolled strip steel is constructed.Then,with the combination of the coefficient of determination(R^(2))and root mean square error as the optimization objective,the hyperparameters of RFR model are iteratively optimized using WOA,and better predictive effectiveness is obtained.Finally,the mechanical properties prediction model based on RFR-WOA is compared with models established using deep neural networks,convolutional neural networks,and other methods.The test results on 9469 samples of actual production data show that the model developed present has better predictive accuracy and generalization capability. 展开更多

It is well known that coarse-grained super-elastic NiTi shape memory alloys(SMAs)exhibit localized rather than homogeneous martensite transformation(MT),which,however,can be strongly influenced by either internal size(grain size,GS)or the external size(geometric size).The coupled effect of GS and geometric size on the functional properties has not been clearly understood yet.In this work,the super-elasticity,one-way,and stress-assisted two-way shape memory effects of the polycrystalline NiTi SMAs with different aspect ratios(length/width for the gauge section)and different GSs are investigated based on the phase field method.The coupled effect of the aspect ratio and GS on the functional properties is adequately revealed.The simulated results indicate that when the aspect ratio is lower than about 4:1,the stress biaxiality and stress heterogeneity in the gauge section of the sample become more and more obvious with decreasing the aspect ratio,which can significantly influence the microstructure evolution in the process involving external stress.Therefore,the corresponding functional property is strongly dependent on the aspect ratio.With decreasing the GS and the aspect ratio(to be lower than 4:1),both the aspect ratio and GS can affect the MT or martensite reorientation in each grain and the interaction among grains.Thus,due to the strong internal constraint(i.e.,the constraint of grain boundary)and the external constraint(i.e.,the constraint of geometric boundary),the capabilities of the functional properties of NiTi SMAs are gradually weakened and highly dependent on these two factors. 展开更多

Modified ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer(EVAM)and amino-functionalized nano-silica(NSiO_(2))par-ticles were employed as the base materials for the synthesis of the nanocomposite pour point depressant designated as EVAM-g-NSiO_(2).This synthesis involved a chemical grafting process within a solution system,followed by a structural characterization.Moreover,combining macro-rheological performance with microscopic structure observation,the influence of the nanocomposite pour point depressant on the rheological properties of the model waxy oil system was investigated.The results indicate that when the mass ratio of NSiO_(2) to EVAM is 1:100,the prepared EVAM-g-NSiO_(2) nanocomposite pour point depressant exhibits excellent pour point reduction and viscosity reduction properties.Moreover,the nanocomposite pour point depressant obtained through a chemical grafting reaction demonstrates structural stability(the bonding between the polymer and nanoparticles is stable).The pour points of model waxy oils doped with 500 mg/kg ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer(EVA),EVAM,and EVAM/SiO_(2) were reduced from 34℃ to 23,20,and 21℃,respectively.After adding the same dosage of EVAM-g-NSiO_(2) nanocomposite pour point depressant,the pour point of the model wax oil decreased to 12℃ and the viscosity at 32℃ decreased from 2399 to 2396.9 mPa·s,achieving an impressive viscosity reduction rate of 99.9%.Its performance surpassed that of EVA,EVAM,and EVAM/SiO_(2).The EVAM-g-NSiO_(2) dispersed in the oil phase acts as the crystallization nucleus for wax crystals,resulting in a dense structure of wax crystals.The compact wax crystal blocks are difficult to overlap with each other,pre-venting the formation of a three-dimensional network structure,thereby improving the low-temperature flowability of the model waxy oil. 展开更多

Selecting proper descriptors(also known feature selection,FS)is key in the process of establishing mechanical properties prediction model of hot-rolled microalloyed steels by using machine learning(ML)algorithm.FS methods based on data-driving can reduce the redundancy of data features and improve the prediction accuracy of mechanical properties.Based on the collected data of hot-rolled microalloyed steels,the association rules are used to mine the correlation information between the data.High-quality feature subsets are selected by the proposed FS method(FS method based on genetic algorithm embedding,GAMIC).Compared with the common FS method,it is shown on dataset that GAMIC selects feature subsets more appropriately.Six different ML algorithms are trained and tested for mechanical properties prediction.The result shows that the root-mean-square error of yield strength,tensile strength and elongation based on limit gradient enhancement(XGBoost)algorithm is 21.95 MPa,20.85 MPa and 1.96%,the correlation coefficient(R^(2))is 0.969,0.968 and 0.830,and the mean absolute error is 16.84 MPa,15.83 MPa and 1.48%,respectively,showing the best prediction performance.Finally,SHapley Additive exPlanation is used to further explore the influence of feature variables on mechanical properties.GAMIC feature selection method proposed is universal,which provides a basis for the development of high-precision mechanical property prediction model. 展开更多

Unveiling micro-scale mechanisms of in-situ silicon alloying for tailoring mechanical properties in titanium alloys:Experiments and computational modeling

Titanium-silicon(Ti-Si)alloy system shows significant potential for aerospace and automotive applications due to its superior specific strength,creep resistance,and oxidation resistance.For Si-containing Ti alloys,the sufficient content of Si is critical for achieving these favorable performances,while excessive Si addition will result in mechanical brittleness.Herein,both physical experiments and finite element(FE)simulations are employed to investigate the micro-mechanisms of Si alloying in tailoring the mechanical properties of Ti alloys.Four typical states of Si-containing Ti alloys(solid solution state,hypoeutectoid state,near-eutectoid state,hypereutectoid state)with varying Si content(0.3-1.2 wt.%)were fabricated via in-situ alloying spark plasma sintering.Experimental results indicate that in-situ alloying of 0.6 wt.%Si enhances the alloy’s strength and ductility simultaneously due to the formation of fine and uniformly dispersed Ti_(5)Si_(3)particles,while higher content of Si(0.9 and 1.2 wt.%)results in coarser primary Ti_(5)Si_(3)agglomerations,deteriorating the ductility.FE simulations support these findings,highlighting the finer and more uniformly distributed Ti_(5)Si_(3)particles contribute to less stress concentration and promote uniform deformation across the matrix,while agglomerated Ti_(5)Si_(3)particles result in increased local stress concentrations,leading to higher chances of particle fracture and reduced ductility.This study not only elucidates the micro-mechanisms of in-situ Si alloying for tailoring the mechanical properties of Ti alloys but also aids in optimizing the design of high-performance Si-containing Ti alloys. 展开更多

Cold regions often feature complex geological environments where various physical phenomena interact,with a particularly notable thermo-hydro-mechanical(THM)coupling.In this study,fully coupled THM cyclic tests were conducted,followed by fatigue tests,to explore how THM treatment influences the fatigue properties of damaged sandstone.Experimental results indicate that rock fatigue deformation,damage evolution,and failure characteristics are highly sensitive to initial damage caused by coupled THM treatment.Rocks subjected to multiple THM cycles exhibit lower initial irreversible strain,shorter fatigue life,lower critical total dissipated energy,and higher irreversible strain increments,indicating accelerated deterioration.After THM coupling,rock fatigue failure shows complex crack networks,with macroscopic failure modes shifting from shear to tensile failure.Polarized microscopy and acoustic emission analyses reveal that this transition stems from micro-scale transgranular to intergranular fractures.We introduced a fractional order-based damage fatigue model to quantitatively describe the rock viscoelastic parameters after different initial damage treatments.Rock viscoelastic-plastic parameters decrease with increasing coupled THM cycles.Finally,we discussed the feasibility of applying these results to the long-term stability analysis of rock slopes.This study provides unique insights and modeling tools from fully coupled THM experiments to understand the rock fatigue characteristics,offering potential applications for slope stability assessment. 展开更多

A three-dimensional numerical model of laser-arc hybrid plasma for aluminum alloy fillet joints is developed in this study.This mod-el accounts for the geometric complexity of fillet joints,the physical properties of shielding gases with varying He-Ar ratios,and the coupling between arc plasma and laser-induced metal plume.The accuracy of the model is validated using a high-speed camera.The effects of varying He contents in the shielding gas on both the temperature and flow velocity of hybrid plasma,as well as the distribu-tion of laser-induced metal vapor mass,were investigated separately.The maximum temperature and size of arc plasma decrease as the He volume ratio increases,the arc distribution becomes more concentrated,and its flow velocity initially decreases and then sharply increases.At high helium content,both the flow velocity of hybrid plasma and metal vapor are high,the metal vapor is con-centrated on the right side of keyhole,and its flow appears chaotic.The flow state of arc plasma is most stable when the shielding gas consists of 50%He+50%Ar. 展开更多

Modelling of Flood Risks to People’s Life and Property in the Lower Yellow River Under Different Floodplain Management Modes

Quantification of river flood risks is a prerequisite for floodplain management and development.The lower Yellow River(LYR)is characterized by a complex channel–floodplain system,which is prone to flooding but inhabits a large population on the floodplains.Many floodplain management modes have been presented,but implementation effects of these management modes have not been evaluated correctly.An integrated model was first proposed to evaluate the flood risks to people’s life and property,covering an improved module of two-dimensional(2D)morphodynamic processes and a module of flood risk evaluation for people,buildings and crops on the floodplains.Two simulation cases were then conducted to validate the model accuracy,including the hyperconcentrated flood event and dike-breach induced flood event occurring in the LYR.Finally,the integrated model was applied to key floodplains in the LYR,and the effects of different floodplain management modes were quantified on the risks to people’s life and property under an extreme flood event.Results indicate that:①Satisfactory accuracy was achieved in the simulation of these two flood events.The maximum sediment concentration was just underestimated by 9%,and the simulated inundation depth agreed well with the field record;②severe inundation was predicted to occur in most domains under the current topography(SchemeⅠ),which would be alleviated after implementing different floodplain management modes,with the area in slight inundation degree accounting for a large proportion under the mode of“construction of protection embankment”(SchemeⅡ)and the area in medium inundation degree occupying a high ratio under the mode of“floodplain partition harnessing”(SchemeⅢ);and③compared with SchemeⅠ,the high-risk area for people’s life and property would reduce by 21%–49%under SchemeⅡ,and by 35%–93%under SchemeⅢ. 展开更多

Understanding the deterioration behaviors and mechanisms of rocks under thermo-hydromechanical(THM)interactions is crucial for mitigating slope instability.In this study,the physicomechanical properties of silty mudstone subjected to THM interactions were investigated by triaxial tests.The underlying micro-mechanisms were revealed using microscopic tests.The triaxial test results indicate that the strength parameters of silty mudstone decrease by 89.50%(deformation modulus),78.15%(peak strength),70.58%(cohesion),and 48.65%(friction angle)under 16 THM cycles,a load of 300 kPa,and alternating between 0℃water immersion and 60℃drying.The SEM test results indicate that the deterioration of silty mudstone strength primarily results from hydrothermal-expansion softening and cracking driven by the TLHM interactions.The specimens manifest shear failure under confining pressure exceeding 140 kPa.Furthermore,a new constitutive model considering hydrothermalexpansion strain and non-linear deformation characteristics was developed.The discrepancy between the experimentally measured peak strength and the damage constitutive model prediction remains below 5%.The proposed model is verified to be in satisfactory agreement with the experimental results.The self-designed THM apparatus overcomes the limitations of traditional investigations,enabling simultaneous consideration of thermal,hydraulic,and mechanical interactions. 展开更多

With increasing awareness of myopia control,various preventive methods have been developed.In recent decades,a range of specialized spectacle lenses utilizing optical interventions has been manufactured and widely adopted for myopia management.However,the underlying optical mechanisms of these lenses remain unclear,and there is a lack of simulation methods for pre-manufacturing analysis.Meanwhile,the structures of these lenses are becoming increasingly complex,even incorporating an aspheric segment array on a curved base.To address these challenges,we have developed an efficient,accurate,and flexible modeling method for simulating such lenses,along with an experimental setup for validation.We provide deeper insights into the optical mechanisms of these lenses and establish a convenient design framework that facilitates the development of optimized lens structures. 展开更多

The wireless communication systems based on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs) have found a wide range of applications recently. In this paper, we propose a new three-dimensional(3 D) non-stationary multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) channel model for the communication links between the UAV and mobile terminal(MT). The new model originates the traditional geometry-based stochastic models(GBSMs) but considers the non-stationary propagation environment due to the rapid movements of the UAV, MT, and clusters. Meanwhile, the upgrade time evolving algorithms of time-variant channel parameters, i.e., the path number based on birth-death processes of clusters, path delays, path powers, and angles of arrival and departure, are developed and optimized. In addition, the statistical properties of proposed GBSM including autocorrelation function(ACF), cross-correlation function(CCF), and Doppler power spectrum density(DPSD) are investigated and analyzed. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed model provides a good agreement on the statistical properties with the corresponding derived theoretical ones, which indicates its usefulness for the performance evaluation and validation of the UAV based communication systems. 展开更多

The modeling procedure was performed in two stages: first, modeling of polymer/polymer interface region comprising Janus nanoparticles and second, modeling of the entire systems as a function of the variation of the blend morphology.In the first stage, the modeling procedure was performed based on the development of the model proposed by Ji et al. and in the second stage, the fundamental of Kolarik's model was used in order to propose a developed and more practical model. It was shown that Janus nanoparticles may form dual polymer/particle interphase at polymer/polymer interface which can drastically affect the final mechanical properties of the system. Comparing the results of tensile tests imposed on different prepared samples with the predictions of the model proved its accuracy and reliability(error < 9%). 展开更多

The direct radiative forcing (DRF) of sulfate aerosols depends highly on the atmospheric sulfate loading and the meteorology, both of which undergo strong regional and seasonal variations. Because the optical properties of sulfate aerosols are also sensitive to atmospheric relative humidity, in this study we first examine the scheme for optical properties that considers hydroscopic growth. Next, we investigate the seasonal and regional distributions of sulfate DRF using the sulfate loading simulated from NCAR CAM-Chem together with the meteorology modeled from a spectral atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM) developed by LASG-IAP. The global annual-mean sulfate loading of 3.44 mg m-2 is calculated to yield the DRF of -1.03 and -0.57 W m-2 for clear-sky and all-sky conditions, respectively. However, much larger values occur on regional bases. For example, the maximum all-sky sulfate DRF over Europe, East Asia, and North America can be up to -4.0 W m-2. The strongest all-sky sulfate DRF occurs in the Northern Hemispheric July, with a hemispheric average of -1.26 W m-2. The study results also indicate that the regional DRF are strongly affected by cloud and relative humidity, which vary considerably among the regions during different seasons. This certainly raises the issue that the biases in model-sinmlated regional meteorology can introduce biases into the sulfate DRF. Hence, the model processes associated with atmospheric humidity and cloud physics should be modified in great depth to improve the simulations of the LASG-IAP AGCM and to reduce the uncertainty of sulfate direct effects on global and regional climate in these simulations. 展开更多

A better understanding of solid-liquid separation would assist in improving the thickening performance and perhaps water recovery as well. The present work aimed to develop an empirical model to study the effects of ore properties on the thickening process based on pilot tests using a column. A hydro-cyclone was used to prepare the required samples for the experiments. The model significantly predicted the experimental underflow solid content using a regression equation at a given solid flux and bed level for different samples, indicating that ore properties are the effective parameters in the thickening process. This work confirned that the water recovery would be increased about 5% by separating the feed into two parts, overflow and underflow, and introducing two different thickeners into them separately. This is duo to the fact that thickeners are limited by permeability and compressibility in operating conditions. 展开更多

High accuracy surface modeling (HASM) is a method which can be applied to soil property interpolation. In this paper, we present a method of HASM combined geographic information for soil property interpolation (HASM-SP) to improve the accuracy. Based on soil types, land use types and parent rocks, HASM-SP was applied to interpolate soil available P, Li, pH, alkali-hydrolyzable N, total K and Cr in a typical red soil hilly region. To evaluate the performance of HASM-SP, we compared its performance with that of ordinary kriging (OK), ordinary kriging combined geographic information (OK-Geo) and stratified kriging (SK). The results showed that the methods combined with geographic information including HASM-SP and OK-Geo obtained a lower estimation bias. HASM-SP also showed less MAEs and RMSEs when it was compared with the other three methods (OK-Geo, OK and SK). Much more details were presented in the HASM-SP maps for soil properties due to the combination of different types of geographic information which gave abrupt boundary for the spatial varia- tion of soil properties. Therefore, HASM-SP can not only reduce prediction errors but also can be accordant with the distribution of geographic information, which make the spatial simula- tion of soil property more reasonable. HASM-SP has not only enriched the theory of high accuracy surface modeling of soil property, but also provided a scientific method for the ap- plication in resource management and environment planning. 展开更多

This paper studies the critical behaviours and magnetic properties of three-dimensional bond and anisotropy dilution Blume-Capel model (BCM) in the presence of an applied field within the effective field theory. The trajectory of tricritical point, reentrant transitions and degenerate patterns of anisotropy are obtained both for the bond and the anisotropy dilutions. The global phase diagrams demonstrate unusually reentrant phenomena. The temperature dependences of magnetization curves undergo remarkable spin glass behaviour at low temperatures, and transform from ferromagnetism to paramagnetism at high temperature in applied fields. Temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility curve is in qualitative agreement with experimental result. 展开更多

In this study,α+βTi-Al-V-Mo-Nb alloys with the addition of multiple elements that are suitable for laser additive manufacturing(LAM)were designed according to a Ti-6Al-4V cluster formula.This formula can be expressed as 12[Al-Ti12](AlTi2)+5[Al-Ti14]((Mo,V,Nb)2Ti),in which Mo and Nb were added into the alloys partially instead of V to give alloys with nominal compositions of Ti-6.01Al-3.13V-1.43Nb,Ti-5.97Al-2.33V-2.93Mo,and Ti-5.97Al-2.33V-2.20Mo-0.71Nb(wt.%).The microstructures and mechanical properties of the as-deposited and heat-treated samples prepared via LAM were examined.The sizes of theβcolumnar grains andαlaths in the Nb-containing samples are found to be larger than those of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy,whereas Mo-or Mo/Nb-added alloys contain finer grains.It indicates that Nb gives rise to coarsenedβcolumnar grains andαlaths,while Mo significantly refines them.Furthermore,the single addition of Nb improves the elongation,whereas the single addition of Mo enhances the strength of the alloys.The simultaneous addition of Mo/Nb significantly improves the comprehensive mechanical properties of the alloys,leading to the best properties with an ultimate tensile strength of 1,070 MPa,a yield strength of 1,004 MPa,an elongation of 9%,and micro-hardness of 355 HV.The fracture modes of all the alloys are ductile-brittle mixed fracture. 展开更多
