文摘To more accurately describe the coal damage and fracture evolution law during liquid nitrogen(LN_(2))fracturing under true triaxial stress,a thermal-hydraulic-mechanical-damage(THMD)coupling model for LN_(2) fracturing coal was developed, considering the coal heterogeneity and thermophysical parameters of nitrogen. The accuracy and applicability of model were verified by comparing with LN_(2) injection pre-cooling and fracturing experimental data. The effects of different pre-cooling times and horizontal stress ratios on coal damage evolution, permeability, temperature distribution, and fracture characteristics were analyzed. The results show that the permeability and damage of the coal increase exponentially, while the temperature decreases exponentially during the fracturing process. As the pre-cooling time increases, the damage range of the coal expands, and the fracture propagation becomes more pronounced. The initiation pressure and rupture pressure decrease and tend to stabilize with longer precooling times. As the horizontal stress ratio increases, fractures preferentially extend along the direction of maximum horizontal principal stress, leading to a significant decrease in both initiation and rupture pressures. At a horizontal stress ratio of 3,the initiation pressure drops by 48.07%,and the rupture pressure decreases by 41.36%.The results provide a theoretical basis for optimizing LN_(2) fracturing techniques and improving coal seam modification.

文摘A series of true triaxial unloading tests are conducted on sandstone specimens with a single structural plane to investigate their mechanical behaviors and failure characteristics under different in situ stress states. The experimental results indicate that the dip angle of structural plane(θ)and the intermediate principal stress(σ2)have an important influence on the peak strength, cracking mode, and rockburst severity. The peak strength exhibits a first increase and then decrease as a function ofσ2 for a constantθ.However,whenσ2 is constant, the maximum peak strength is obtained atθof 90°,and the minimum peak strength is obtained atθof 30°or 45°.For the case of an inclined structural plane, the crack type at the tips of structural plane transforms from a mix of wing and anti-wing cracks to wing cracks with an increase inσ2,while the crack type around the tips of structural plane is always anti-wing cracks for the vertical structural plane, accompanied by a series of tensile cracks besides. The specimens with structural plane do not undergo slabbing failure regardless ofθ,and always exhibit composite tensile-shear failure whatever theσ2 value is.With an increase inσ2 andθ,the intensity of the rockburst is consistent with the tendency of the peak strength.By analyzing the relationship between the cohesion(c),internal friction angle(φ),andθin sandstone specimens,we incorporateθinto the true triaxial unloading strength criterion, and propose a modified linear Mogi-Coulomb criterion. Moreover, the crack propagation mechanism at the tips of structural plane, and closure degree of the structural plane under true triaxial unloading conditions are also discussed and summarized. This study provides theoretical guidance for stability assessment of surrounding rocks containing geological structures in deep complex stress environments.

文摘The mechanical behavior of cemented gangue backfill materials(CGBMs)is closely related to particle size distribution(PSD)of aggregates and properties of cementitious materials.Consequently, the true triaxial compression tests,CT scanning,SEM,and EDS tests were conducted on cemented gangue backfill samples(CGBSs)with various carbon nanotube concentrations(P_(CNT))that satisfied fractal theory for the PSD of aggregates. The mechanical properties, energy dissipations, and failure mechanisms of the CGBSs under true triaxial compression were systematically analyzed. The results indicate that appropriate carbon nanotubes(CNTs)effectively enhance the mechanical properties and energy dissipations of CGBSs through micropore filling and microcrack bridging, and the optimal effect appears at P_(CNT)of 0.08wt%.Taking PSD fractal dimension(D)of 2.500 as an example, compared to that of CGBS without CNT,the peak strength(σ_(p)),axial peak strain(ε_(1,p)),elastic strain energy(Ue),and dissipated energy(U_(d))increased by 12.76%,29.60%,19.05%,and90.39%,respectively.However,excessive CNTs can reduce the mechanical properties of CGBSs due to CNT agglomeration, manifesting a decrease inρ_(p),ε_(1,p),and the volumetric strain increment(Δε_(v))when P_(CNT)increases from 0.08wt%to 0.12wt%.Moreover,the addition of CNTs improved the integrity of CGBS after macroscopic failure, and crack extension in CGBSs appeared in two modes:detour and pass through the aggregates.Theσ_(p)and U_(d)firstly increase and then decrease with increasing D,and porosity shows the opposite trend.Theε_(1,p)andΔε_(v)are negatively correlated with D,and CGBS with D=2.150 has the maximum deformation parameters(ε_(1,p)=0.05079,Δε_(v)=0.01990)due to the frictional slip effect caused by coarse aggregates. With increasing D,the failure modes of CGBSs are sequentially manifested as oblique shear failure,"Y-shaped"shear failure, and conjugate shear failure.
文摘Triaxial testing serves as a fundamental method for evaluating the elastic and strength properties of rocks, crucial for developing accurate 3D geomechanical models. This paper presents a novel method for determining strength parameters by incorporating the dependence of uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)on P-wave velocity into the Hoek-Brown criterion.Additionally,a new approach is introduced to process triaxial test data efficiently using Python libraries such as SciPy,NumPy,Matplotlib, and Pandas.Furthermore, the paper addresses challenges in determining elastic parameters through triaxial testing.A Python script is developed to automate the calculation of elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio,over-coming subjectivity in selecting the linear portion of stress-strain curves. The script optimally identifies the linear region by minimizing the fit error with appropriate constraints, ensuring a more objective and standardized approach. The proposed methodologies are demonstrated using limestone specimens from Central Asian gas fields. These innovations offer faster, more reliable results, reducing error and enhancing the comparability of analyses in geomechanics, with potential applications across various geological settings.

文摘The spatial relationship between structural planes and principal stresses significantly affects the mechanical properties of deep hard rock. This paper examines the effect of the loading angle under true triaxial compression. While previous studies focused on the angleβbetween the maximum principal stress and the structural plane, the role of angleω,between the intermediate principal stress and the structural plane,is often overlooked.Utilizing artificially prefabricated granite specimens with a single non-penetrating structural plane,we set the loading angleβto range from 0°to 90°across seven groups, and assignedωvalues of 0°and 90°in two separate groups. The results show that the peak strength is negatively correlated withβup to 45°,beyond which it tends to stabilize. The angleωexerts a strengthening effect on the peak strength.Deformation mainly occurs post-peak,with the strain values ε_(1) and ε_(3) reaching levels 2−3 times higher than those in intact rock. The structural plane significantly influences failure mode whenω=0°,while failure localizes near the σ_(3) surface of the specimens whenω=90°.The findings enhance data on structural plane rocks under triaxial compression and inform theoretical research, excavation, and support design of rock structures.

文摘Geomechanical properties of rocks vary across different measurement scales, primarily due to heterogeneity.Micro-scale geomechanical tests, including micro-scale“scratch tests”and nano-scale nanoindentation tests, are attractive at different scales. Each method requires minimal sample volume,is low cost, and includes a relatively rapid measurement turnaround time. However, recent micro-scale test results–including scratch test results and nanoindentation results–exhibit tangible variance and uncertainty, suggesting a need to correlate mineral composition mapping to elastic modulus mapping to isolate the relative impact of specific minerals.Different research labs often utilize different interpretation methods, and it is clear that future micro-mechanical tests may benefit from standardized testing and interpretation procedures. The objectives of this study are to seek options for standardized testing and interpretation procedures, through two specific objectives:(1)Quantify chemical and physical controls on micro-mechanical properties and(2)Quantify the source of uncertainties associated with nanoindentation measurements. To reach these goals,we conducted mechanical tests on three different scales:triaxial compression tests, scratch tests, and nanoindentation tests. We found that mineral phase weight percentage is highly correlated with nanoindentation elastic modulus distribution. Finally,we conclude that nanoindentation testing is a mineralogy and microstructure-based method and generally yields significant uncertainty and overestimation. The uncertainty of the testing method is largely associated with not mapping pore space a priori.Lastly, the uncertainty can be reduced by combining phase mapping and modulus mapping with substantial and random data sampling.

文摘This study takes shale samples from the Jiaoshiba block in the Fuling shale gas field of the Sichuan Basin, and uses the true triaxial testing system to conduct a series of mechanical experiments under deep shale reservoir conditions after shale hydration.Stress-strain data and mechanical parameters of shale after hydration under high temperature and high pressure were obtained to investigate the effects of reservoir temperature, hydration time and horizontal stress difference on the mechanical strength of shale after hydration.By using nonlinear regression and interpolation methods,a prediction model for the mechanical strength of shale after hydration was constructed, and the mechanical strength chart of deep shale under high stress difference was plotted.First, higher hydration temperature, longer hydration reaction time, and greater horizontal stress difference cause shale to enter the yield stage earlier during the compression process after hydration and to exhibit more prominent plastic characteristics, lower peak strength, peak strain, residual strength and elastic modulus, and higher Poisson's ratio.Second, the longer the hydration time, the smaller the impact of hydration temperature on the mechanical strength of deep shale is.As the horizontal stress difference increases, the peak strength and residual strength weaken intensely, and the peak strain, elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio deteriorate slowly.Third, the mechanical strength of shale decreases significantly in the first 5 days of hydration, but gradually stabilizes as the hydration time increases.Fourth, the visual mechanical strength chart helps to understand the post-fracturing dynamics in deep shale gas reservoir fracturing site and adjust the drainage and production plan in time.
文摘Triaxial tests,a staple in rock engineering, are labor-intensive,sample-demanding,and costly, making their optimization highly advantageous. These tests are essential for characterizing rock strength, and by adopting a failure criterion, they allow for the derivation of criterion parameters through regression, facilitating their integration into modeling programs. In this study,we introduce the application of an underutilized statistical technique—orthogonal regression—well-suited for analyzing triaxial test data.Additionally,we present an innovation in this technique by minimizing the Euclidean distance while incorporating orthogonality between vectors as a constraint, for the case of orthogonal linear regression. Also,we consider the Modified Least Squares method. We exemplify this approach by developing the necessary equations to apply the Mohr-Coulomb,Murrell,Hoek-Brown,andÚcar criteria, and implement these equations in both spreadsheet calculations and R scripts. Finally,we demonstrate the technique's application using five datasets of varied lithologies from specialized literature, showcasing its versatility and effectiveness.

文摘After excavation, some of the surrounding rock mass is in a state of triaxial extension, exhibiting tensile or shear fracture modes. To study the energy mechanism of tensile fracture turning to shear fracture,a series of triaxial extension tests were conducted on sandstone under confining pressures of 10,30,50 and 70 MPa.Elastic energy and dissipated energy were separated by single unloading, the input energy u_(t),elastic energy u_(e),and dissipated energy u_(d)at different unloading stress levels were calculated by the integrating stress−strain curves. The results show that tensile cracks dominate fracture under lower confining pressure(10 MPa),and shear cracks play an increasingly important role in fracture as confining pressure increases(30,50 and 70 MPa).Based on the phenomenon that u_(e)and u_(d)increase linearly with increasing u_(t),a possible energy distribution mechanism of fracture mode transition under triaxial extension was proposed. In addition,it was found that peak energy storage capacity is more sensitive to confining pressure compared to elastic energy conversion capacity.

文摘In this study, based on the rockburst disaster mechanism of excess energy △E>0,true triaxial transient unloading strainburst(including instantaneous strainburst and delayed strainburst)experiments were performed on granite specimens at different maximum principal stress levels. The experimental results were then analyzed, with the strainburst characteristics and acoustic emission(AE)responses of the granite specimens being examined. The excess energy △E was derived through a comparison with the results of conventional biaxial compression tests. The following beneficial conclusions were drawn. The mechanical strength of delayed strainburst specimens initially increases and then decreases with the rise of the unloading stress level. In contrast, the mechanical strength of instantaneous strainburst specimens is higher than that of delayed ones, increasing with the unloading stress level. In terms of fragment ejection velocity and scale, the rockburst intensity of a specimen is positively correlated with its mechanical strength.A pronounced linear relationship exists between the excess energy △E and the fragment ejection velocity(as well as weight),indicating that △E is intimately linked to the kinetic energy of rockbursts.Rockbursts lead to the formation of burst pits and typical V-shaped damage zones near the free face of the specimens, within which tensile cracks dominate.Additionally, the distribution of AE AFRA values indicates that the proportion of tensile cracks increases with the rise of unloading stress level, suggesting that transient unloading under high stress levels significantly promotes tensile fracture. It is anticipated that this study will provide further elucidation on the mechanism of rockburst kinetic energy generation, thereby establishing a foundation for the design of rockburst support measures in engineering applications.

文摘Rock-like specimens containing a joint with different inclination angles and roughness were prepared using 3D printing technology. Then, true triaxial compression loading experiments were conducted on those jointed specimens. The increase in roughness leads to an increase in the axial strength and peak strain. With the increasing inclination angle, the axial strength initially decreases from 30°to 60°and then increases from 60°to 90°.While the peak strain first rises from 30°to 45°and then declines from 45°to 90°.The variation in failure mode results from differences in lateral stress on the joints under different strike directions.Specimens with joint strike parallel to the intermediate principal stress predominantly showed matrix or matrix-joint mixed shear failure, whereas those parallel to the minimum principal stress exhibited matrix shear failure. The analysis results of acoustic emission signals indicate the crack number and shear crack percentage increase with the increasing roughness and first decrease(30°to 60°),then increase(60°to 90°)with the increasing inclination angle. The research results can provide some guidance for the design and support of underground engineering with jointed surrounding rock.

文摘Unveiling the underlying physical mechanisms governing the fracture of brittle rocks is imperative for preventing rockbursts. The novelty of this study lies in the analysis of the dynamic response process of rock three-dimensional(3D)deformation under true triaxial stress, and the surge behavior of timedependent multifractal spectrum has been successfully used to warn of progressive failure inside the rock.Firstly, this study analyzed the dynamic adjustment trajectory of rock deformation, specifically lateral strain, within the framework of the Poisson effect. This analysis highlighted the intricate dependence of rock mechanical properties on the intermediate principal stress.Secondly,by defining the crack interval function(ICF),this study compared the disparities between the two crack growth stages(strengthening stage and weakening stage)under varying stress levels. It was found that the fracture activity of granite system has significant multifractal characteristics.Notably, the multifractal spectrum emerges as a valuable tool for characterizing the distinct fracture properties of rocks, encompassing both the crack scale and the associated energy. Finally,a quantitative criterion grounded in the multifractal parameters of the acoustic emission(AE)time series was formulated, and it indicates that the abrupt changes observed in the time-dependent fractal spectra can serve as precursor indicators for the progressive development of rockbursts.

文摘Analyzing the fatigue damage characteristics of hot dry rock(HDR)affected by seawater thermal shock cycles is required for the efficient exploitation of HDR and the conservation of freshwater resources.Mechanical and acoustic emission(AE)monitoring tests were conducted during the triaxial compression of HDR at different confining pressures, temperatures, and numbers of seawater thermal shocks to investigate the seawater damage of HDR.The test results indicated an increase in the cumulative AE counts with increasing temperature and number of seawater thermal shocks, and a decrease in AE counts with increasing confining pressure. The effect of the number of seawater thermal shocks was significant. The AE counts were 276% higher at 15 than at 0 seawater thermal shocks. The b-value increased with the number of thermal shocks and stabilized after 5 shocks. Most of the damage was small fractures, which reduced the rock’s damage resistance. The AE time series under HDR triaxial compression exhibited multifractal features.High energy AE events dominated the damage mechanism of HDR,indicating shear damage to the HDR.Therefore, this study can provide a reference for seawater as a heat transfer fluid in the design of geothermal energy resource extraction.

文摘This study investigates the creep-fatigue interaction characteristics of rock salt under triaxial conditions.Utilizing PFC^(2D)to conduct creep-fatigue simulation tests on rock salt under various confining pressures and stress intervals, the research systematically analyzes the triaxial stress-strain response,creep-fatigue life and interaction, crack propagation, and energy dissipation characteristics. The Burger's and Linear Parallel Bond(LPB)models are employed to concurrently represent time-dependent and damage behavior. The results indicate that the hysteresis loops for the axial stress-strain curves of salt specimens in triaxial creep-fatigue tests are initially dense but become sparse as fracture approaches. An increase in confining pressure results in a higher number of microcracks, increased fracture strain, extended creepfatigue life, and greater cumulative dissipated energy upon fracture. The creep-fatigue life is shorter than the pure fatigue life at each confining pressure, highlighting a detrimental interaction effect between creep damage and fatigue damage under triaxial conditions. The variation in confining pressure has a minimal impact on the creep or fatigue fraction for the salt specimens under these conditions.Fractured salt specimens under low confining pressure exhibit penetrating inclined cracks surrounded by numerous microcracks, whereas significant dilatancy is observed under high confining pressure. The findings of this study contribute to a scientifically grounded approach for designing energy storage salt caverns, with an emphasis on long-term stability.Additionally, these findings provide a valuable reference for investigating the meso-mechanical characteristics of other rock types, particularly in relation to triaxial creep-fatigue behavior.

文摘Fissured coal mass under triaxial unloading condition exhibits higher burst potential than the triaxial loading condition, which poses challenge to safety and productivity of resources extraction and underground space utilization. To comprehensively understand the mechanism of unloading-induced burst during excavation process, this study investigated the fracture and energy evolution of samples with different fissure types such as single, two parallel, and two coplanar-parallel using PFC2D modelling.Triaxial loading tests were conducted to determine the compressive strengths and other parameters. With increase of fissure inclination angle, the triaxial compressive strength decreases forβ=0°-30°,and then increase forβ=30°-90°.The strength of samples with two coplanar-parallel fissures is the highest.Fissure can significantly change the distribution of fracture and elastic energy.Secondary cracks were generated starting from both ends of the fissure.Forβ=0°-60°,low elastic strain energy area was produced around the fissure along the loading direction. The elastic strain energy is transferred to the outside of fissures.Forβ=75°-90°,only a small amount of high elastic strain energy was generated on both sides of the fissure. The fracture expansion under unloading conditions occurred due to tensile stress T caused by unloading differential rebound deformation and the shear stress on the fissure surface.

文摘Aiming at the problem of deep surrounding rock instability induced by roadway excavation or mining disturbance, the true triaxial loading system was used to conduct graded cyclic maximum principal stress σ_(1) and intermediate principal stress σ_(2) tests on sandstone to simulate the effect of mining stress in actual underground engineering. The influences of each principal stress cycle on the mechanical properties, acoustic emission(AE)characteristics, and fracture characteristics of sandstone were analyzed. The damage characteristics of sandstone under true triaxial cyclic loading were studied.Furthermore, the damage constitutive model of rock mass under true triaxial cyclic loading was established based on AE cumulative ringing count. The quantitative investigation was conducted on cumulative-damage changes in circulating sandstone, which elucidated the mechanism of damage deterioration in sandstone subjected to true triaxial cyclic loading. The results show that the influence of the graded cycleσ_(1) on limit maximum principal strain ɛ_(1max) and limit minimum principal strainɛ_(3max) was significantly greater than that of the limit intermediate principal strain ɛ_(2max).Graded cycleσ_(2) had a greater impact onɛ_(2max) and a smaller impact onɛ_(3max).The elasticity modulus of sandstone decreased exponentially with the increased cyclic load amplitude, while the Poisson ratio increased linearly.b of AE showed a trend of increasing, decreasing, slightly fluctuating, and finally decreasing during cyclingσ_(1).b showed a trend of slight fluctuation, large fluctuation, and finally increase during cyclingσ_(2).Sandstone specimens experienced mainly tensile failure,tensile-shear composite failure, and mainly shear failure with increased initialσ_(2) orσ_(3).This was determined by analyzing the rise angle-average frequency of the AE parameter, corresponding to the rock specimens from splitting failure to shear failure.Besides, the mechanical damage behavior of sandstone under true triaxial cyclic loading could be well described by the established constitutive model. At the same time,it was found that the sandstone damage variable decreased with increasedσ_(2) during cyclingσ_(1).The damage variable decreased first and then increased with increasedσ_(3) during cyclingσ_(2).

文摘The special columnar jointed structure endows rocks with significant anisotropy, accurately grasping the strength and deformation properties of a columnar jointed rock mass(CJRM)under complex geological conditions is crucial for related engineering safety.Combined with the irregular jointed networks observed in the field, artificial irregular CJRM(ICJRM)samples with various inclination angles were prepared for triaxial tests. The results showed that the increase in confining pressure can enhance the ability of the ICJRM to resist deformation and failure, and reduce the deformation and strength anisotropic degrees.Considering the field stress situation, the engineering parts with an inclination angle of 30°−45°need to be taken seriously.Four typical failure modes were identified, and the sample with an inclination angle of 15°showed the same failure behavior as the field CJRM.Traditional and improved joint factor methods were used to establish empirical relationships for predicting the strength and deformation of CJRM under triaxial stress.Since the improved joint factor method can reflect the unique structure of CJRM,the predictive ability of the empirical relationship based on the improved method is better than that based on the traditional joint factor method.

文摘The backfill should keep stable in the primary stope when mining an adjacent secondary stope in subsequent open stoping mining methods, and the large-size mined-out area is usually backfilled by multiple backfilling before the recovery of a secondary stope, resulting in a layered structure of backfill in stope. Therefore,it is significant to investigate the deformation responses and mechanical properties of stratified cemented tailings backfill(SCTB)with different layer structures to remain self-standing as an artificial pillar in the primary stope. The current work examined the effects of enhance layer position(1/3,1/2,and 2/3)and thickness ratio(0,0.1,0.2,and 0.3)on the mechanical properties, deformation, energy evolution, microstructures, and failure modes of SCTB.The results demonstrate that the incorporation of an enhance layer significantly strengthens the deformation and strength of SCTB.Under a confining pressure of 50 kPa,the peak deviatoric stress rises from 525.6 to 560.3,597.1,and 790.5 kPa as the thickness ratio of enhance layer is increased from 0 to 0.1,0.2,and 0.3,representing a significant increase of 6.6%,13.6%,and 50.4%.As the confining pressure increases, the slopes of the curves in the elastic stage become steep, and the plastic phase is extended accordingly.Additionally, the incorporation of the enhance layer significantly improves the energy storage linit of SCTB specimen. As the thickness ratio of the enhance layer increases from 0 to 0.1,0.2,and 0.3,the elastic energy rises from 0.54 to 0.67,0.84,and 1.00 MJ·m^(-3),representing a significant increase of 24.1%,55.6%,and 85.2%.The internal friction angles and cohesions of the SCTB specimens are higher than those of the CTB specimens, however, the cohesion is more susceptible to enhance layer position and thickness ratio than the internal friction angle. The failure style of the SCTB specimen changes from shear failure to splitting bulging failure and shear bulging failure with the presence of an enhance layer. The crack propagation path is significantly blocked by the enhance layer. The findings are of great significance to the application and stability of the SCTB in subsequent stoping backfilling mines.

文摘In deep underground resources mining engineering, rock mass exists in a three-dimensional environment of high stress, high fluid pressure, and high temperature. With the stress disturbance of mining engineering,it is easy to trigger high-energy coal-rock dynamic disasters, which severely restricts the safe and efficient development of deep resources. To investigate the non-linear fracture evolution process and key precursor laws of the coal-rock mass in the process of deep mining,an experimental study was conducted based on the true three-dimensional disturbance stress simulation experiment system. Results showed that the disturbance disaster process of the coal-rock mass has significant stages, and the corresponding acoustic emission(AE)signals also show regular changes. The necessary condition for the occurrence of coal-rock dynamic disasters is that the coupling of the maximum static stress and disturbance stress amplitude should exceed the damage threshold value, the increase ofσ_(2)can reduce the occurrence probability of disaster, and the influence of disturbance frequency on disaster intensity is transition. There are obvious stages in the damage accumulation process of stress-disturbed rock mass, including:damage weakening stage,no damage stage, and accelerated damage stage. The brief AE event calm period and the rapid decline of high average frequency value accompanied with the surge in the low-rise time/amplitude value before the disaster can be regarded as the key precursors of the rock dynamic disaster. The research results are crucial for understanding the disaster evolution of rock mass rupture disturbed by three-dimensional stress in deep engineering, and for the early warning and prevention of coal-rock dynamic disasters.
