In this study, a novel method, using a data-derived soft-sensor method, is proposed to obtain the reliable values of ETP online. First, a partial least square(PLS) method is introduced to select the related secondary variables of ETP based on the experimental data. Second, a radial basis function neural network(RBFNN) is developed to identify the relationship between the related secondary variables and ETP. This RBFNN easily optimizes the model parameters to improve the generalization ability of the soft-sensor. Finally, a monitoring system, based on the above PLS and RBFNN, named PLS-RBFNN-based soft-sensor system, is developed and tested in a real WWTP. Experimental results show that the proposed monitoring system can obtain the values of ETP online and own better predicting performance than some existing methods.展开更多

Discussions were focused on UVirradiation and persulphate oxidation methods which are the most popular dissolved organic phosphorus determinationmethods presently. The compounds used for the phosphorus recovery test were categorized into three groups accordingto their chemical structure. It was found that low power UV irradiation can decompose POC or PC bonds efficientlybut may be inefficient for POP bonds. Heating-bath in acid condition is useful for decomposing POP bonds. Usingthe continuous flow analysis system (Auto-analyzer II), UV digestion and heating-bath, series experiments were carriedout based on the above analysis. Eleven model compounds were employed for the phosphorus recovery test and thefactors influencing the decomposition efficiency of dissolved compounds containing phosphorus were clarified. Finally, the optimal design for determination of dissolved total phosphorus in seawater based on the routine continuous flowanalysis system was presented. For the organic mono-phosphate, the recovery is more than 90% and a recovery of33%~51% was obtained for inorganic or organic polyphosphates. Up to now, this is the highest decompositionefficiency for dissolved phosphorus based on the continuous flow analysis system.展开更多

The results showed that SS concentration in water and natural sedimentation time had the greatest impact on the determination of total phosphorus, while the influence of methods of adding conserving agent, conservation temperature and time was relatively smaller. TP concentration in water samples conserved irregularly was higher than the standard value due to the existence of SS and microorganisms in water, and the deviation became larger with the increase of SS concentration in water. In addition, quality control measures and matters needing attention during the conservation process of water samples were put forward to improve the accuracy of TP concentration.展开更多

Surface water presents certain turbidity and chromaticity due to its silt, plankton, inorganic substances and organic substances. At present, the determination of total phosphorus in the laboratory is mostly by spectrophotometry. Therefore, it is of great significance to explore the influence of chromaticity and turbidity on the determination of total phosphorus in the laboratory. In this paper, different concentrations of total phosphorus solution are selected to analyze the influence of chromaticity and turbidity on total phosphorus respectively. The experimental results show that when the turbidity of water sample is less than 200NTU, it has little influence on the determination result of total phosphorus, with the relative deviation within 5% and less than the allowable relative deviation of 10%. When the chromaticity of the water sample is less than 50 degrees, the influence on the determination result of total phosphorus is small, and the relative deviations are all within 10%.展开更多

The dynamic release of contaminated sediments into the overlying water column was experimentally investigated in an open water channel under different hydrodynamic conditions. The experimental results indicate that the Total Phosphorus (TP) release process can be divided into three stages: rapid release, slow release and equilibration release. In the initial release stage the measured TP concentration changes along the depth. The TP concentration near the sediment-water interface is higher than that near the water surface, but the TP concentration becomes uniform along the depth after 3 h. The dynamic release of re-suspension sediment pollutants is about 6 times higher than the static release of sediment-water interface. There are three main types of release mechanism: diffusion release, re-suspended pore water mixing release and re-suspended particles desorbing release.展开更多

When TP concentration ranged from 12.39 to 14.69 mg/L, the removal rate of COD was the best, over 90.92% ; as TP concentration varied from 2.26 to 2.61 mg/L, the removal rates of NH3-N and TP were the best, up to 100.00% and 76.38% respectively. The results show that it is feasible to use mussel shells as the media of BAF, and TP concentration has certain influence on the performance of the system dealing with domestic wastewater.展开更多

Nonpoint pollution represents a special challenge because of dispersed not easily identifiable sources such as the runoff from soil, nutrients, and other chemicals from agricultural fields and residential areas. Laguna Cartagena is a tropical freshwater wetland, situated in southwestern Puerto Rico. It is a eutrophic ecosystem, and its eutrophication is caused by both external nutrient loading and internal, mainly by phosphorus. This wetland has been affected by phosphorus loading from inorganic agricultural fertilizer in this historically oligotrophic wetland system until the end of subsidized fertilizer use and sugar cane cultivation in the late 1990s. This study identifies: 1) nonpoint sources of phosphorus (SRP, Soluble Reactive Phosphorus and TP, Total Phosphorus) and nitrogen (nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia) that enter Laguna Cartagena;and 2) the role of precipitation events on the contributions of phosphorus and nitrogen loading to ecosystems. Herein we assess water samples from five channelized external sources of P and N that enter Laguna Cartagena at two-week intervals from October 2013 through November 2014. Rainfall data were obtained weekly from a rain gauge. Standard methods were used for all chemical analyses. Results showed that the channelized waterways that carry water to the lagoon can be classified as hypereutrophic (>100 μg/L) for TP concentrations and oligotrophic (<200 μg/L) for nitrogen concentrations. Currently agriculture (rice and cattle) is the predominant land use at the nearby University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Lajas Agricultural Experiment Substation, the predominant nonpoint source of nutrient pollution (SRP, TP and ammonia) in the principal channelized water sources to the lagoon. Current nutrient loads are likely derived from fertilizers applied to the Substation’s rice fields, and a high density livestock. The second important cause of external surface water degradation (SRP, TP and ammonia) is the discharge from rural households in the drainage basin that discharge greywater directly to the environment, as indicated by the results from Cerro Alto hills immediately to the north of the lagoon. Precipitation also was associated with SRP, TP and ammonia loads.展开更多

Understanding of P and its fractions in soils on a regional scale is imperative for effective management or utilization of P and the improvement of P availability in soils. To study spatial variability and changes of soil P and its fractions as affected by farming practices, soil samples were taken in Rugao County, Jiangsu Province of China, an intensive agricultural area in the Yangtze River Delta region, in years of 1982(n = 1 514), 1997(n = 1 651), and 2002(n = 342). High spatial variabilities of Olsen P and total P(TP) were observed throughout the study area. Loamy Stagnic Anthrosols and clay or loamy Aquic Cambosols had significantly higher concentrations of Olsen P and TP than sandy Ustic Cambosols and Aquic Cambosols. Olsen P and TP were increased from 1982 to 2002. The accumulations of Olsen P and TP in the cultivated soils were likely related to the increased application of P fertilizer, organic input, and soil incorporation of crop residues as well as conversion of soil use. Accumulated soil P was dominantly in labile and semi-labile P fractions. These P fractions may be utilized by future crop production by adjusting management practices, but they also pose a serious threat to nearby water bodies. Future strategies should include decreasing P fertilization in soils and supporting sustainable management. The information from this study can be used to monitor changes in soil fertility and environmental risks so that the use of fertilizers can become more rational.展开更多

The land use and its impact on soil qualities continue to be highlighted. The present study was conducted to compare soil erosion under four land use types(i.e.,forestland, abandoned farmland, tillage, and grassland) and their effects on soil organic carbon(SOC), total nitrogen(TN) and total phosphorus(TP) in the Shuanglong catchment of the Dianchi Lake watershed, China. There were large variations in the erosion rate and the nutrient distributions across the four land use types. The erosion rates estimated by137 Cs averaged 2 133 t km-2year-1under tillage and abandoned farmland over the erosion rate of non-cultivated sites, and the grasslands showed a net deposition. For all sites, the nutrient contents basically decreased with the soil depth. Compared with tillage and abandoned farmland, grassland had the highest SOC and TN contents within 0–40 cm soil layer, followed by forestland. The significant correlations between137 Cs, SOC and TN were observed. The nutrient loss caused by erosion in tillage was the highest. These results suggested that grassland and forestland would be beneficial for SOC and TN sequestration over a long-term period because of their ability to reduce the loss of nutrients by soil erosion. Our study demonstrated that reduction of nutrient loss in the red soil area could be made through well-managed vegetation restoration measures.展开更多

Few studies have focused on changes in the physical and chemical properties of soils at high altitudes. Our aim was to identify the spatial distribution of soil physical and chemical properties in cold and arid climatic region. We also tried to explore relationship between soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), available nitrogen (AN), available phosphorus (AP), soil particle size distribution (PSD). Samples were collected at 44 sites along a 300 km transect across the alpine grassland of northern Tibet. The study results showed that grassland type was the main factor influencing SOC, TN and TP distribution along the Gangdise Mountain-Shenzha-Shuanghu Transect. SOC, TN and TP contents were significantly higher in alpine meadow than alpine steppe ecosystems. SOC, TN, TP and AN contents in two soil layers (0-15 cm and 15-3o cm) showed no significant differences, while AP content in top soft (0-15 cm) was significantly higher than that in sub-top soil (15-30cm). SOC content was correlated positively with TN and TP content (r = 0.901and 0.510, respectively). No correlations were detected for clay content and fractal dimension of particle size distribution (D). Our study results indicated the effects of vegetation on soil C, N and P seem to be more important than that of rocks itself along latitude gradient on the northern Tibetan Plateau. However, we did not found similar impacts of vegetation on soil properties in depth. Inaddition, this study also provided an interesting contribution to the global data pool on soil carbon stocks.展开更多

When the chromaticity of the water sample is less than 50 degrees, the influence on the determination result of total phosphorus is small, and the relative deviations are all within 10%.

文摘In this paper, the bottom of the Dianshan Lake was selected as a test sample. There are three main types of release mechanism: diffusion release, re-suspended pore water mixing release and re-suspended particles desorbing release.

文摘In recent years, sudden water pollution accidents in China's rivers have become more frequent, resulting in considerable effects on environmental safety. Therefore,it is necessary to simulate and predict pollution accidents.Simulation and prediction provide strong support for emergency disposal and disaster reduction. This paper describes a new two-dimensional water quantity and the quality model that incorporates a digital elevation model into the geographic information system. The model is used to simulate sudden water pollution accidents in the main stream of the Yangtze River and Jialing River in the Chongqing section of the Three Gorges Reservoir area. The sectional velocity distribution and concentration change of total phosphorus are then analyzed under four hydrological situations. The results show that the proposed model accurately simulates and predicts the concentration change and migration process of total phosphorus under sudden water pollution accidents. The speed of migration and diffusion of pollutants is found to be greatest in the flood season, followed by the water storage period, drawdown season, and dry season,in that order. The selection of an appropriate water scheduling scheme can reduce the peak concentration of river pollutants. This study enables the impact of pollutants on the ecological environment of river water to be alleviated, and provides a scientific basis for the emergency response to sudden water pollution accidents in the Three Gorges Reservoir area.

文摘To explore water level variations and their dynamic influence on the water quality of Huayang Lakes, the water level from 1967 to 2023 and water quality from 2015 to 2023 were analyzed using the Mann–Kendall trend test, box plots, and violin plots. The results show a notable hydrological rhythm of water level alternation between dry and flood seasons in Huayang Lakes, with an average water level of 12.82 m and a monthly range of 11.21–17.24m.Since 2017,the water level of Huayang Rivers has shown a decreasing trend of–0.02 m/a.Total phosphorus(TP)has become the primary pollutant. The TP concentrations in Longgan Lake(the largest lake)during the dry, rising, flood, and retreating seasons from 2015 to 2023were 0.083,0.061,0.050,and 0.059 mg/L,respectively.The effect of water level on TP was mainly observed during the low-water period. When the water level in the dry season rose to 12.25 and 13.00 m,the percentage of TP exceeding 0.1 mg/L in Longgan Lake decreased to 55.8%and 33.3%,respectively.During the dry season, wind and wave disturbances caused the release of endogenous phosphorus in Huayang Lakes. This led to drastic fluctuations in TP concentration, reducing the correlation between water level and TP.When external control is limited, the water level during the dry season should be maintained between 12.25 and 13.0 m.Additionally,it is necessary to accelerate the restoration of submerged macrophyte species(such as Hydrilla verticillata and Vallisneria natans)in the Huayang Rivers.

文摘Soil organic carbon(SOC):total nitrogen(TN):total phosphorus(TP)(C:N:P)stoichiometry can give important information about biogeochemical cycling in terrestrial ecosystems. The spatial patterns and driving mechanisms of soil C:N:P ratios are still poorly understood on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau of China. In this study,we therefore combined data of the geography, climate, soil properties, and vegetation characteristics from 319 sites across the plateau to investigate their relationships with the horizontal and vertical patterns of SOC,TN,and TP concentrations and their stoichiometric ratios(C:N and N:P).We observed higher SOC(30.5–46.8 mg g^(-1)),TN(2.4–3.4 mg g^(-1)),C:N(14.7–18.0),and N:P(6.9–8.0)in alpine meadows, forests, and shrublands and higher TP(1.6 mg g^(-1))in croplands.Overall,SOC,TN,TP,C:N,and N:P showed decreasing trends(by 67%,64%,19%,12%,and 54%,respectively)along the whole soil profile(0–100 cm).Soil cation exchange capacity and bulk density were the stronger environmental drivers of SOC and TN.Soil TP showed latitudinal and longitudinal increasing trends in all soil layers.Soil properties explained most of the variations in SOC(67%–90%),TN(67%–87%),C:N(61%–89%),and N:P(64%–85%),with increasing impacts along the soil profile.Geography and climate influenced soil TP directly and indirectly through their impacts on soil properties, with geography being the predominant driver(46%–65%)along the soil profile. The variation in soil C:N was mostly driven by SOC and TN,and the direct and indirect effects of the environmental factors were relatively weak.Geography, climate, soil properties, and vegetation characteristics indirectly impacted soil N:P through their impacts on TN and TP in all the soil layers.Altogether, our findings illuminate the relative contributions of geography, climate, soil properties, and vegetation characteristics to soil C:N and N:P,thus enhancing our understanding of C,N,and P cycling across the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau.

文摘The combination of hydrolytic acidification and biological aerated filter (BAF) filled with mussel shells was used to treat domestic wastewater, and the removal rates of chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) and total phosphorus (TP) by the system were analyzed under different TP concentrations. The results show that it is feasible to use mussel shells as the media of BAF, and TP concentration has certain influence on the performance of the system dealing with domestic wastewater.
文摘Point and nonpoint sources of phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) can cause reductions in water quality, including eutrophication. Precipitation also was associated with SRP, TP and ammonia loads.

文摘This study was conducted to investigate the effects of long-term located fertilization on soil phosphorus, the changes of soil available phosphorus(OlsenP),the evolution of soil total phosphorus(TP)and the ratio change of Olsen-P to TP(PAC)by 33-year fertilization experiments in winter wheat-summer maize rotation system in Shandong fluvo-aquic soil.Eight treatments were designed as no fertilization(CK),nitrogen fertilizer(N),nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer(NP),nitrogen and potassium fertilizer(NK),phosphate and potassium fertilizer(PK),nitrogen-phosphate-potassium fertilizer(NPK),reduced NPK fertilizer(N(15)PK),and increased NPK fertilizer(N_(25)PK).Meanwhile,eight organic fertilizer-added treatments were designed based on the application of inorganic fertilizer the same as the above ones. The results showed that TP,Olsen-P and PAC of treatments added with organic fertilizer were higher than those without organic fertilizer, and those of the treatments applied with phosphate fertilizer were higher than those of no phosphate fertilizer. With the increase of years, soil P pool decreased due to crop absorption, nutrient loss and morphological transformation and other causes under the treatments of without and only phosphate fertilizer, while remained stable under the treatments added with organic fertilizer. The PAC values were generally lower in fluvo-aquic soil, and it could be improved by the application of organic fertilizer. On the whole, the application of chemical phosphate fertilizer combined with organic fertilizer could improve the phosphorus content in soil and ensure the supply of phosphorus nutrition. This study would provide scientific basis for fertilization management and soil fertility in fluvo-aquic soil.

文摘Phosphorus(P) in agricultural soils is an important factor for soil quality and environmental protection. The information from this study can be used to monitor changes in soil fertility and environmental risks so that the use of fertilizers can become more rational.

文摘This is the first study to report the co-occurrence of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances(PFASs),heavy metals, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)and their impacts on the native microbial consortium in soil due to the long-term exposure. The PFASs,heavy metals, and PAHs were detected in soil samples collected at 2–6 m below the ground surface at different sampling locations in a steel-making factory. The total concentrations of PFASs varied from 6.55 to 19.79 ng g^(-1),with perfluorooctane sulfonate(PFOS),perfluorobutane sulfonate, and 6:2 chlorinated polyfluorinated ether sulfonate(alternative of PFOS)being the predominant PFASs.The concentrations of arsenic, cadmium, and lead were detected in the ranges of 4.40–1270.00,0.01–8.67,and 18.00–647.00 mg kg^(-1),respectively,and the concentration of total PAHs was detected in the range of 1.02–131.60 mg kg^(-1).The long-term exposure to mixed contaminants of PFASs,heavy metals, and PAHs led to lower richness and diversity of microbial communities in soil. The soil bacterial communities were mainly composed of Pseudomonas,norank_p_GAL15,Leptothrix,norank_o_Rokubacteriales,and Acinetobacter.Correlations between soil environmental factors and microbial communities indicated that cation exchange capacity and total phosphorus were two key factors in shaping the composition of native microbial communities.Furthermore,Arthrobacter,Leptothrix, and Sphingobium were found to be significantly positively correlated with PFAS concentrations, indicating that these genera could tolerate the stress exerted by PFASs,along with the stress imposed due to the presence of heavy metals or/and PAHs.

文摘As a modified product,Phoslock can purify soluble phosphate(SP) in water to control water eutrophication effectively. The results showed that Phoslock had better removal effect for SP in the water of Dianchi Lake and could control water eutrophication effectively.Phoslock not only reduced SP concentration in water but also kept it at a lower level for a long time.Eutrophic water of Dianchi Lake treated by Phoslock had higher transparency, and the concentration of SP and total phosphorus(TP) was lower, with stronger anti-pollution ability to domestic sewage and agricultural non-point pollution. Therefore,Phoslock was a new dephosphorization reagent used in sewage and was safe to natural waters and aquatic organisms.

文摘Soil erosion and loss of soil nutrients have been a crucial environment threat in Southwest China. Our study demonstrated that reduction of nutrient loss in the red soil area could be made through well-managed vegetation restoration measures.

文摘Soil carbon and nutrient contents and their importance in advancing our understanding of biogeochemical cycling in terrestrial ecosystem, has motivated ecologists to find their spatial patterns in various geographical area. Inaddition, this study also provided an interesting contribution to the global data pool on soil carbon stocks.
