The main objective is to create and find the best configuration of the solar cell based on materials that are inexpensive and highly efficient in solar energy conversion and subsequently test the efficiency of dye sensitized titanium dioxide solar cell. We begin the process with two glass plates coated with Fluorine tin oxide (FTO). Titanium dioxide is applied to the conductive side of one plate and the other plate is coated with graphite. A dye is adsorbed on to the TiO2 layer and then the plates are sandwiched together. A drop of iodide electrolyte is then added between the plates. The tests carried out indoors under a lamp emitting all wavelengths in the visible spectrum were not found to provide consistent data due to substantial heating of the cell. The outdoor tests carried out in natural sunlight exhibited steady voltage at much higher level. Future research will involve the incorporation of quantum dots instead of the organic dye as a sensitizer. Quantum dots have the advantages of providing tunable band gaps and the ability to absorb specific wavelength.展开更多

Their large demand and widespread applications will inevitably cause damage to organisms and ecosystems. The present work is aimed at studying the effect of electrolysis voltage on the rate of electrochemical reduction. The products of electrochemical reduction of TiO2 and Ti2O were examined using the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The results show that Ti2O was reduced to low valent titanium oxide at 1.5 -1.7 V, which was the result of ionization of oxygen. TiO2 and Ti20 were reduced to titanium metal at 2.1-3.1 V, which was the co-action of ionization of oxygen and calciothermic reduction. The oxygen content decreased rapidly with voltage increasing from 2.1 to 2.6 V, while it changed little from 2.6 to 3.1 V. The optimized cell voltage was 2.6-3.1 V.展开更多

NO conversion reached 98.9% at 200℃. Mechanism of the reduction was also investigated, N20 was mainly yielded below 100℃, while N2 was produced instead at higher temperature. O2 was supposed to accelerate the reaction between NOx and CO for its oxidation of NO to give more easily reduced NO2, but the oxidation of CO by O2 to CO2 decreased the speed of the reaction greatly. The photocatalysts prepared were characterized by XRD, thermal analysis, FTIR, UV-Vis and SPS. The characterization results of FTIR and UV-Vis spectra show that Ti atoms were gradually changed from octahedral coordination to tetrahedral coordination with the addition of silica, which is not beneficial for obtaining strong Brnsted acidity and higher photocatalytic activity. The photocatalytic activity experiments, which were conducted by using heptane(or SO 2) as the model reactant, showed that TiO 2-SiO 2 containing a suitable amount of silica can exhibit much higher photocatalytic activity than pure TiO 2. The enhanced photocatalytic activity can be attributed to three following factors: (1) smaller crystalline size; (2) higher thermal stability; (3) the new strong Brnsted acidity.展开更多

Cr-based catalysts were prepared by a wet impregnation method. It was found that the 10 wt.% chromium doping on the support achieved the best catalytic activity. At 350℃, the NO conversion was 61% under conditions of GHSV = 23600 hr^-l. The BET data showed that the support particles had a mesoporous structure. A new technology for photocatalytic oxidation of NO using ultraviolet(UV)/TiO2/H2O2 process is studied in an efficient laboratory-scale reactor. Effects of several key operational parameters on NO removal efficiency are studied, including TiO2 content, H2O2 initial concentration, UV lamp power, NO initial content, oxygen volume fraction and TiO2/H2O2 solution volume. The results illustrate that the NO removal efficiency increases with the increasing of H2O2 initial concentration or UV lamp power. Meanwhile, a lower NO initial content or a higher TiO2/H2O2 solution volume will result in higher NO removal efficiency. In addition, oxygen volume fraction has a little effect. The highest NO removal efficiency is achieved at the TiO2 content of 0.75 g/L, H2O2 initial concentration of 2.5 mol/L, UV lamp power of 36 W, NO initial content of 206×10-6 and TiO2/H2O2 solution volume of 600 m L. It is beneficial for the development and application of NO removal from coal-fired flue gas with UV/TiO2/H2O2 process.展开更多

Thin layers of the TiO2-GO composites were prepared on a glass substrate by the spin-coating technique from GO and an aqueous solution of TiO2. A significant decrease in optical band gap was observed at the TiO2-GO compound compared to that of pure TiO2. Samples as prepared were characterized using XRD, SEM and UV-visible spectra. XRD analysis revealed the amorphous nature of the deposited layers. Scanning electron microscope reveals the dispersion of graphene nanofiles among titanium oxide nanoparticles distributed at the surface with an almost uniform size distribution. The band gap has been calculated and is around 2 eV after incorporation of Graphene oxide. The chemical bond C-Ti between the titanium oxide and graphene sheets is at the origin of this reduction.展开更多

Experimental results indicated that the above second metal oxide modifications on m-TiO2 electrode are shown in all cases to act as barrier layer for the interracial charge transfer processes, but film electron transport and interfacial charge recombination characteristics under applied bias voltage were dependent significantly on the existing states and kinds of these second metal oxides. Those changes based on sec- ond metal oxide modifications showed good correlation with the current-voltage analyses of dye-sensitized solar cell, and all modifications were found to increase the open-circuit photo- voltage in various degrees, while the MgO, ZnO, and NiO modifications result in 23%, 13%, and 6% improvement in cell conversion efficiency, respectively. The above observations indi- cate that controlling the charge transport and recombination is very important to improve the photovoltaic performance of TiO2-based solar cell.展开更多

In addition,TC was difficult to remove or biodegrade, which posed a challenge to the conventional techniques. In this work, the batch experiments on TC adsorption in aqueous solution of hydrogel( HG) consisting of graphene oxide( GO) and TiO_2 nanotubes( TN) were successfully conducted. HG composite( HG-TN-GO) was prepared with TN and GO with self-assembly method during the oxidation-reduction reaction, and criogel( CG) with TN and GO was characterized by pH at point of zero charge( pH_(pzc)), transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy( XPS). The adsorption capacity of HG-TN-GO on TC was evaluated by analyzing its isotherms. The maximum adsorption capacity reached 751. 3 mg/g. Besides, the adsorption isotherms were well fitted by the Langmuir model, with the theoretical maximum( q_m) of 797. 0 mg/g. The adsorption process was systematically studied by varying pH during the whole adsorption process. The adsorption occurred probably via π-π interaction and cation-π bonding between TC and the HG-TN-GO surface. The composite could be regenerated in 50% ethanol aqueous solution, without significant capacity loss. After 6 recycles, the decrease of adsorption capacity was less than 10%.展开更多

Our studies show that doping TiO2 with CeO2 gave better photocatalytic reduction of [Fe(CN)6]3- than TiO2 doped with Ce2O3. However the TiO2 assemblies doped with either Ce(III) or Ce(IV) oxides give less photochemical reduction of [Fe(CN)6]3- that the oxides of pure metals (Ti or Ce). In both cases a lowering of the band gaps of TiO2 was noticed. Immobilized TiO2 doped with Ce oxides on a FTO (Fluorine Ten Oxide) surface gave greater photocurrent with I2/I3– than that recorded for [Fe(CN)6]3-/4- redox systems. Our studies indicate that the TiO2 doped with Ce2O3 or CeO2 maintained photoactivity after being immobilized in thin solid sheets and can be used in all solid state photoelectron-chemical cells.展开更多

Mammalian and in vitro studies have raised concerns about the toxicity of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2-NPs), but there are limited data on ecotoxicity to aquatic organisms. In this work, the sub-acute toxicity of TiO2-NPs to carp (Cyprinus carpio) was assessed. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD) activities and lipid peroxidation (LPO) levels in liver, gill and brain tissues of carps varied with concentration of TiO2-NPs suspensions and exposure time (up to 8 d). As a result, 100 and 200 mg/L TiO2-NPs caused statistically significant decrease in SOD, CAT and POD activities and significant increase in LPO levels in tissues (P 〈 0.05), suggesting that the fish exposed to these two concentrations of TiO2-NPs suffered from the oxidative stress. The extent of depletion of antioxidant enzymes activities and the elevation of LPO in the liver was the greatest, indicating that the liver might be the most susceptible organ to TiO2-NPs exposure. In addition, carps had gill pathologies including edema and thickening of gill lamellae as well as gill filaments, and liver pathologies including necrotic and apoptosis hepatocytes after exposed to 100 and 200 mg/L TiO2-NPs for 20 d. These results indicated a potential risk from TiO2-NPs released into the aqueous environment.展开更多

It is beneficial for the development and application of NO removal from coal-fired flue gas with UV/TiO2/H2O2 process.
文摘This research work aims to reduce the band gap of thin layers of titanium oxide by the incorporation of graphene oxide sheets. The chemical bond C-Ti between the titanium oxide and graphene sheets is at the origin of this reduction.

文摘Titanium is a very important element for several industrial applications, being one of the ninth most abundant elements in the Earth’s crust (0.63% wt). In this work it will discuss the different mining and industrial activities involved in the production of titanium dioxide. The first step analyzed will treat about the beneficiation mining process of titanium mineral, and secondly, it will discuss the two main processes of the TiO2 manufacturing (sulphate and chloride routes). In addition, we will show different uses of the titanium dioxide pigment as filler in paper, plastics and rubber industries and as flux in glass manufacture, etc. Finally, we will show that the old wastes are currently called co-products since they were valorized, being commercialized by the Spanish industry of TiO2 production in different fields such as agriculture, civil engineering, or cement manufacturing.
文摘The preparation, characterization and properties of titania overlayer on Fe(110) substrate is hereby reported. The TiO_X overlayer was found to form in a layer-by-layer mode with a suboxide of titanium in the form of TiO migrating into the Fe substrate and Fe migrating into the deposited layer of TiO_X simultaneously during the deposition.
文摘Mesoporous TiO2 (m-TiO2) nanoparticles were used to prepare the porous film electrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells, and a second metal oxide (MgO, ZnO, A1203, or NiO) modifi- cation was carried out by dipping the m-TiO2 electrode into their respective nitrate solution followed by annealing at 500 ℃. The above observations indi- cate that controlling the charge transport and recombination is very important to improve the photovoltaic performance of TiO2-based solar cell.

文摘The detection on tetracycline( TC) in drinking water poses an environmental issue since TC has been widely used to prevent animal disease and promote their growth. After 6 recycles, the decrease of adsorption capacity was less than 10%.

文摘Electromagnetic wave absorbing materials are urgently required in the fields of medicine, communication, and military. However, the thickness, weight, narrow effective bandwidth, and weak absorbing ability of the materials restrict their further application. In this work,a double-layer hollow nanocube with a dielectric titanium dioxide(TiO_(2))shell and a magnetic CoFe oxide inner shell is prepared.Prussian blue(PB)is prepared by the hydrothermal method, and used as the template to prepare PB@CoFe PB analogue(PBA).After selective etching and further calcination, hollow CoFe oxide particles are obtained. The obtained particles are then coated with SiO_(2)and TiO_(2),respectively,and the intermediate layer is dislodged to obtain the final CoFe oxide@TiO_(2)with the hollow double shell structure. The obtained double-layer hollow structure can effectively capture the incident electromagnetic waves, and increase the propagation path. Moreover, the obvious enhancement of interface polarization and the improvement of impedance matching enhance the wave absorbing ability of the material. The analysis results show that, the structure is stable and the dispersion is good. The maximum reflection loss(RL)at 10 GHz is as high as-46.1 dB with the sample thickness of 1.6 mm.The light-weight and high-efficiency CoFe oxide@TiO_(2)absorber is promised to be used in commercial and military aerospace fields.
文摘Photoelectrochemical studies on TiO2 doped with Ce2O3 or CeO2 took place in aqueous solutions of [Fe(CN)6]4- as the source of hydrated electrons. Our studies indicate that the TiO2 doped with Ce2O3 or CeO2 maintained photoactivity after being immobilized in thin solid sheets and can be used in all solid state photoelectron-chemical cells.

文摘ZrO2/TiO2 composite photocatalytic film was produced on the pure titanium substrate using in-situ Zr(OH)4 colloidal particle by the micro-arc oxidation technique and characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer. The composite film shows a lamellar and porous structure which consists of anatase, futile and ZrO2 phases. The optical absorption edge of film is shifted to longer wavelength when ZrO2 is introduced to TiO2. Furthermore, the photocatalytic reaction rate constants of degradation of rhodamine B solution with ZrO2/TiO2 composite film and pure TiO2 film under ultraviolet irradiation are measured as 0.0442 and 0.0186 h 1, respectively.

文摘A layer of porous film containing Ca and P was prepared by the micro-arc oxidation method on the surface of a novel near β biomedical Ti-3Zr-2Sn-3Mo-25Nb alloy, and then NH2- active group was introduced to the films by activation treatment. The phase composition, surface micro-topography and elemental characteristics of the micro-arc oxidation films were investigated with XRD, SEM, EDS and XPS, and the osteoinduction of the micro-arc oxidation films was tested using the simulated body fluid immersion, the in-vitro osteoblast cultivation test and animal experiment. The results show that the oxide layer is a kind of porous ceramic intermixture and contains Ca and P. The films in the simulated body fluid can induce apatite formation, resulting in excellent bioactivity. The cell test discovers that osteoblasts can grow well on the surface of micro-arc oxidation films. And the Ti-3Zr-2Sn-3Mo-25Nb biomedical alloy coated with active porous calcium-phosphate films shows better osteoinduction in vivo.

文摘Increasing application of nanotechnology highlights the need to clarify and understand nanotoxicity. These results indicated a potential risk from TiO2-NPs released into the aqueous environment.
