BACKGROUND Inguinal hernias are common after surgery.Tension-free repair is widely accepted as the main method for managing inguinal hernias.Adequate exposure, coverage, and repair of the myopectineal orifice(MPO)are necessary. However, due to differences in race and sex, people’s body shapes vary.According to European guidelines, the patch should measure 10 cm×15 cm.If any part of the MPO is dissected, injury to the nerves, vascular network,or organs may occur during surgery, thereby leading to inguinal discomfort, pain, and seroma formation after surgery. Therefore, accurate localization and measurement of the boundary of the MPO are crucial for selecting the optimal patch for inguinal hernia repair.AIM To compare the size of the MPO measured on three-dimensional multislice spiral computed tomography(CT)with that measured via laparoscopy and explore the relevant factors influencing the size of the MPO.METHODS Clinical data from 74 patients who underwent laparoscopic tension-free inguinal hernia repair at the General Surgery Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Science and Technology between September 2022 and July 2024 were collected and analyzed retrospectively.Transabdominal preperitoneal was performed.Sixty-four males and 10 females, with an average age of 58.30±12.32 years, were included. The clinical data of the patients were collected. The boundary of the MPO was measured on three-dimensional CT images before surgery and then again during transabdominal preperitoneal. All the preoperative and intraoperative data were analyzed via paired t-tests.A t-test was used for comparisons of age, body mass index, and sex between the groups. In the comparative analysis,a P value less than 0.05 indicated a significant difference.RESULTS The boundaries of the MPO on 3-dimensional CT images measured 7.05±0.47 cm and 6.27±0.61 cm,and the area of the MPO was 19.54±3.33 cm^(2).The boundaries of the MPO during surgery were 7.18±0.51 cm and 6.17±0.40 cm.The errors were not statistically significant. However, the intraoperative BD(the width of the MPO,P=0.024,P<0.05)and preoperative AC(the length of the MPO,P=0.045,P<0.05)significantly differed according to sex.The AC and BD measurements before and during surgery were not significantly different according to age, body mass index, hernia side or hernia type(P>0.05).CONCLUSION The application of this technology can aid in determining the most appropriate dissection range and patch size. 展开更多

To comprehensively utilize the valuable geological map, exploration profile, borehole, and geochemical logging data and the knowledge on the formation of the Jinshan Ag-Au deposit for forecasting the exploration targets of concealed ore bodies,three-dimensional Mineral Prospectivity Modeling(MPM)of the deposit has been conducted using the weights-of-evidence(WofE)method.Conditional independence between evidence layers was tested, and the outline results using the prediction-volume(P-V)and Student's t-statistic methods for delineating favorable mineralization areas from continuous posterior probability map were critically compared.Four exploration targets delineated ultimately by the Student's t-statistic method for the discovery of minable ore bodies in each of the target areas were discussed in detail. The main conclusions include:(1)three-dimensional modeling of a deposit using multi-source reconnaissance data is useful for MPM in interpreting their relationships with known ore bodies;(2)WofE modeling can be used as a straightforward tool for integrating deposit model and reconnaissance data in MPM;(3)the Student's t-statistic method is more applicable in binarizing the continuous prospectivity map for exploration targeting than the PV approach;and(4)two target areas within high potential to find undiscovered ore bodies were diagnosed to guide future near-mine exploration activities of the Jinshan deposit. 展开更多

Satellite Component Layout Optimization(SCLO) is crucial in satellite system design. This paper proposes a novel Satellite Three-Dimensional Component Assignment and Layout Optimization(3D-SCALO) problem tailored to engineering requirements, aiming to optimize satellite heat dissipation while considering constraints on static stability, 3D geometric relationships between components, and special component positions. The 3D-SCALO problem is a challenging bilevel combinatorial optimization task, involving the optimization of discrete component assignment variables in the outer layer and continuous component position variables in the inner layer, with both influencing each other. To address this issue, first, a Mixed Integer Programming(MIP) model is proposed, which reformulates the original bilevel problem into a single-level optimization problem, enabling the exploration of a more comprehensive optimization space while avoiding iterative nested optimization. Then, to model the 3D geometric relationships between components within the MIP framework, a linearized 3D Phi-function method is proposed, which handles non-overlapping and safety distance constraints between cuboid components in an explicit and effective way. Subsequently, the Finite-Rectangle Method(FRM) is proposed to manage 3D geometric constraints for complex-shaped components by approximating them with a finite set of cuboids, extending the applicability of the geometric modeling approach. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed MIP model are demonstrated through two numerical examples"and a real-world engineering case, which confirms its suitability for complex-shaped components and real engineering applications. 展开更多

Reconstruction during the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)significantly transforms the geometric structure of transition metal compounds, leading to enhanced catalytic performance. However, the resulting structural disorder complicates the development of accurate theoretical models. In this study,CoS2 is used as a model system to establish a framework for rationally modeling reconstructed OER catalysts based on density functional theory(DFT).In the reconstruction process, sulfur atoms are likely to be substituted by oxygen atoms, leading to the formation of the CoOOH phase.Based on the difference in reconstruction degree,we constructed three types of models:doping, heterostructure, and fully reconstructed, representing the reconstruction degree from minimal to full phase transition, respectively.Fully reconstructed models, which account for strain and vacancy effects, effectively simulate the unique coordination environments of reconstructed catalysts.Model e-CoOOH achieves a theoretical overpotential of 0.38 V,outperforming pristine CoOOH(0.56 V),demonstrating that the unique structural features resulting from reconstruction improve OER performance. The doping model and the heterostructure model are helpful to explain the electronic structure and performance transformation of the reconstruction process. This work provides a rational theoretical modeling approach, which is conducive to improving the reliability of the theoretical OER performance of the reconstructed catalyst. 展开更多

Currently, there are a limited number of dynamic models available for braided composite plates with large overall motions, despite the incorporation of three-dimensional(3D)braided composites into rotating blade components. In this paper,a dynamic model of 3D 4-directional braided composite thin plates considering braiding directions is established.Based on Kirchhoff's plate assumptions, the displacement variables of the plate are expressed.By incorporating the braiding directions into the constitutive equation of the braided composites, the dynamic model of the plate considering braiding directions is obtained. The effects of the speeds, braiding directions, and braided angles on the responses of the plate with fixed-axis rotation and translational motion, respectively, are investigated. This paper presents a dynamic theory for calculating the deformation of 3D braided composite structures undergoing both translational and rotational motions. It also provides a simulation method for investigating the dynamic behavior of non-isotropic material plates in various applications. 展开更多

The development of digital twins for geotechnical structures necessitates the real-time updates of threedimensional(3D)virtual models(e.g.numerical finite element method(FEM)model)to accurately predict time-varying geotechnical responses(e.g.consolidation settlement)in a 3D spatial domain. However, traditional 3D numerical model updating approaches are computationally prohibitive and therefore difficult to update the 3D responses in real time.To address these challenges, this study proposes a novel machine learning framework called sparse dictionary learning(T-3D-SDL)for real-time updating of time-varying 3D geotechnical responses. In T-3D-SDL,a concerned dataset(e.g.time-varying 3D settlement)is approximated as a linear superposition of dictionary atoms generated from 3D random FEM analyses.Field monitoring data are then used to identify non-trivial atoms and estimate their weights within a Bayesian framework for model updating and prediction. The proposed approach enables the real-time update of temporally varying settlements with a high 3D spatial resolution and quantified uncertainty as field monitoring data evolve. The proposed approach is illustrated using an embankment construction project. The results show that the proposed approach effectively improves settlement predictions along temporal and 3D spatial dimensions, with minimal latency(e.g.within minutes),as monitoring data appear. In addition, the proposed approach requires only a reasonably small number of 3D FEM model evaluations, avoids the use of widely adopted yet often criticized surrogate models, and effectively addresses the limitations(e.g.computational inefficiency)of existing 3D model updating approaches. 展开更多

Cosmetic safety evaluation employs a series of toxicological tests, on both qualitative and quantitative levels, to assess the potential risks for the daily use of selected cosmetic ingredients and final products. Traditionally, safety evaluation of cosmetics uses animal tests. With the development of in vitro science and the 3R (Reduction, Replacement and Refinement) principle, three-dimensional reconstructed human epidermis (3D-RHE) models have been developed and widely applied in cosmetic safety evaluation. Reconstructed human skin models possess anatomy and metabolism biology similar to real human tissue. This paper reviews the current application of 3D-RHE models in the safety evaluation of skin irritation, eye irritation, phototoxicity and genotoxicity potential of cosmetic ingredients/formulas. The advantages and disadvantages of using skin models are also discussed, and comments and suggestions are given for its future development. 展开更多

Hypoxia is a typical feature of the tumor microenvironment, one of the most critical factors affecting cell behavior and tumor progression. However, the lack of tumor models able to precisely emulate natural brain tumor tissue has impeded the study of the effects of hypoxia on the progression and growth of tumor cells. This study reports a three-dimensional(3D)brain tumor model obtained by encapsulating U87MG(U87)cells in a hydrogel containing type I collagen. It also documents the effect of various oxygen concentrations(1%,7%,and 21%)in the culture environment on U87 cell morphology, proliferation, viability, cell cycle, apoptosis rate, and migration. Finally,it compares two-dimensional(2D)and 3D cultures. For comparison purposes, cells cultured in flat culture dishes were used as the control(2D model).Cells cultured in the 3D model proliferated more slowly but had a higher apoptosis rate and proportion of cells in the resting phase(G0 phase)/gap I phase(G1 phase)than those cultured in the 2D model.Besides, the two models yielded significantly different cell morphologies.Finally,hypoxia(e.g.,1%O2)affected cell morphology, slowed cell growth, reduced cell viability, and increased the apoptosis rate in the 3D model. These results indicate that the constructed 3D model is effective for investigating the effects of biological and chemical factors on cell morphology and function, and can be more representative of the tumor microenvironment than 2D culture systems. The developed 3D glioblastoma tumor model is equally applicable to other studies in pharmacology and pathology. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Laparoscopic gastrectomy for esophagogastric junction(EGJ)carcinoma enables the removal of the carcinoma at the junction between the stomach and esophagus while preserving the gastric function, thereby providing patients with better treatment outcomes and quality of life.Nonetheless, this surgical technique also presents some challenges and limitations.Therefore,three-dimensional reconstruction visualization technology(3D RVT)has been introduced into the procedure, providing doctors with more comprehensive and intuitive anatomical information that helps with surgical planning, navigation, and outcome evaluation.AIM To discuss the application and advantages of 3D RVT in precise laparoscopic resection of EGJ carcinomas.METHODS Data were obtained from the electronic or paper-based medical records at The First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei North University from January 2020 to June 2022.A total of 120 patients diagnosed with EGJ carcinoma were included in the study.Of these,68 underwent laparoscopic resection after computed tomography(CT)-enhanced scanning and were categorized into the 2D group, whereas 52 underwent laparoscopic resection after CT-enhanced scanning and 3D RVT and were categorized into the 3D group. This study had two outcome measures:the deviation between tumor-related factors(such as maximum tumor diameter and infiltration length)in 3D RVT and clinical reality, and surgical outcome indicators(such as operative time, intraoperative blood loss, number of lymph node dissections,R0 resection rate, postoperative hospital stay, postoperative gas discharge time, drainage tube removal time, and related complications)between the 2D and 3D groups.RESULTS Among patients included in the 3D group,27 had a maximum tumor diameter of less than 3 cm,whereas 25 had a diameter of 3 cm or more.In actual surgical observations,24 had a diameter of less than 3 cm,whereas 28 had a diameter of 3 cm or more. The findings were consistent between the two methods(χ^(2)=0.346,P=0.556),with a kappa consistency coefficient of 0.808.With respect to infiltration length,in the 3D group,23 patients had a length of less than 5 cm,whereas 29 had a length of 5 cm or more.In actual surgical observations,20 cases had a length of less than 5 cm,whereas 32 had a length of 5 cm or more. The findings were consistent between the two methods(χ^(2)=0.357,P=0.550),with a kappa consistency coefficient of 0.486.Pearson correlation analysis showed that the maximum tumor diameter and infiltration length measured using 3D RVT were positively correlated with clinical observations during surgery(r=0.814 and 0.490,both P<0.05).The 3D group had a shorter operative time(157.02±8.38 vs 183.16±23.87),less intraoperative blood loss(83.65±14.22 vs 110.94±22.05),and higher number of lymph node dissections(28.98±2.82 vs 23.56±2.77)and R0 resection rate(80.77%vs 61.64%)than the 2D group.Furthermore, the 3D group had shorter hospital stay[8(8,9)vs 13(14,16)],time to gas passage[3(3,4)vs 4(5,5)],and drainage tube removal time[4(4,5)vs 6(6,7)]than the 2D group. The complication rate was lower in the 3D group(11.54%)than in the 2D group(26.47%)(χ^(2)=4.106,P<0.05).CONCLUSION Using 3D RVT,doctors can gain a more comprehensive and intuitive understanding of the anatomy and related lesions of EGJ carcinomas, thus enabling more accurate surgical planning. 展开更多

To improve the accuracy and generalization of well logging curve reconstruction, this paper proposes an artificial intelligence large language model“Gaia”and conducts model evaluation experiments.By fine-tuning the pre-trained large language model, the Gaia significantly improved its ability in extracting sequential patterns and spatial features from well-log curves.Leveraging the adapter method for fine-tuning,this model required training only about 1/70 of its original parameters, greatly improving training efficiency.Comparative experiments, ablation experiments, and generalization experiments were designed and conducted using well-log data from 250 wells. In the comparative experiment, the Gaia model was benchmarked against cutting-edge small deep learning models and conventional large language models, demonstrating that the Gaia model reduced the mean absolute error(MAE)by at least 20%.In the ablation experiments, the synergistic effect of the Gaia model's multiple components was validated, with its MAE being at least 30%lower than that of single-component models. In the generalization experiments, the superior performance of the Gaia model in blind-well predictions was further confirmed.Compared to traditional models, the Gaia model is significantly superior in accuracy and generalization for logging curve reconstruction, fully showcasing the potential of large language models in the field of well-logging.This provides a new approach for future intelligent logging data processing. 展开更多

The carbon emissions and cost during the construction phase are significant contributors to the oilfield lifecycle. As oilfields enter the late stage, the adaptability of facilities decreases. To achieve sustainable development, oilfield reconstruction was usually conducted in discrete rather than continuous space.Motivated by economic and sustainability goals,a 3-phase heuristic model for oilfield reconstruction was developed to mine potential locations in continuous space. In phase 1,considering the process characteristics of the oil and gas gathering system, potential locations were mined in continuous space. In phase 2,incorporating comprehensive reconstruction measures,a reconstruction model was established in discrete space. In phase 3,the topology was further adjusted in continuous space.Subsequently, the model was transformed into a single-objective mixed integer linear programming model using the augmented ε-constraint method.Numerical experiments revealed that the small number of potential locations could effectively reduce the reconstruction cost, and the quality of potential locations mined in phase 1 surpassed those generated in random or grid form.Case studies showed that cost and carbon emissions for a new block were reduced by up to 10.45% and 7.21 %,respectively. These reductions were because the potential locations mined in 1P reduced the number of metering stations, and 3P adjusted the locations of metering stations in continuous space to shorten the pipeline length. For an old oilfield, the load and connection ratios of the old metering station increased to 89.7% and 94.9%,respectively,enhancing operation efficiency.Meanwhile, recycling facilitated the diversification of reconstruction measures and yielded a profit of 582,573 ¥,constituting 5.56% of the total cost. This study adopted comprehensive reconstruction measures and tapped into potential reductions in cost and carbon emissions for oilfield reconstruction, offering valuable insights for future oilfield design and construction. 展开更多

In Hyperspectral Imaging(HSI),the detrimental influence of noise and distortions on data quality is profound, which has severely affected the following-on analytics and decisionmaking such as land mapping. This study presents an innovative framework for assessing HSI band quality and reconstructing the low-quality bands, based on the Prophet model.By introducing a comprehensive quality metric to start, the authors approach factors in both spatial and spectral characteristics across local and global scales. This metric effectively captures the intricate noise and distortions inherent in the HSI data.Subsequently, the authors employ the Prophet model to forecast information within the low-quality bands, leveraging insights from neighbouring high-quality bands. To validate the effectiveness of the authors’proposed model, extensive experiments on three publicly available uncorrected datasets are conducted. In a head-to-head comparison, the framework against six state-ofthe-art band reconstruction algorithms including three spectral methods, two spatialspectral methods and one deep learning method is benchmarked. The authors’experiments also delve into strategies for band selection based on quality metrics and the quality evaluation of the reconstructed bands. In addition, the authors assess the classification accuracy utilising these reconstructed bands. In various experiments, the results consistently affirm the efficacy of the authors’method in HSI quality assessment and band reconstruction.Notably, the authors’approach obviates the need for manually prefiltering of noisy bands. This comprehensive framework holds promise in addressing HSI data quality concerns whilst enhancing the overall utility of HSI. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Computed tomography(CT)small bowel three-dimensional(3D)reconstruction is a powerful tool for the diagnosis of small bowel disease and can clearly show the intestinal lumen and wall as well as the outside structure of the wall. The horizontal axis position can show the best adjacent intestinal tube and the lesion between the intestinal tubes, while the coronal position can show the overall view of the small bowel. The ileal end of the localization of the display of excellent, and easy to quantitative measurement of the affected intestinal segments, the sagittal position for the rectum and the pre-sacral lesions show the best, for the discovery of fistulae is also helpful.Sagittal view can show rectal and presacral lesions and is useful for fistula detection. It is suitable for the assessment of inflammatory bowel disease, such as assessment of disease severity and diagnosis and differential diagnosis of the small bowel and mesenteric space-occupying lesions as well as the judgment of small bowel obstruction points.CASE SUMMARY Bleeding caused by small intestinal polyps is often difficult to diagnose in clinical practice. This study reports a 29-year-old male patient who was admitted to the hospital with black stool and abdominal pain for 3 months.Using the combination of CT-3D reconstruction and capsule endoscopy, the condition was diagnosed correctly, and the polyps were removed using single-balloon enteroscopyendoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography without postoperative complications.CONCLUSION The role of CT-3D in gastrointestinal diseases was confirmed.CT-3D can assist in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases in combination with capsule endoscopy and small intestinal microscopy. 展开更多

With drilling and seismic data of Transtensional(strike-slip)Fault System in the Ziyang area of the central Sichuan Basin,SW China plane-section integrated structural interpretation,3-D fault framework model building, fault throw analyzing, and balanced profile restoration,it is pointed out that the transtensional fault system in the Ziyang 3-D seismic survey consists of the northeast-trending F_(I)19 and F_(I)20 fault zones dominated by extensional deformation,as well as 3 sets of northwest-trending en echelon normal faults experienced dextral shear deformation.Among them, the F_(I)19 and F_(I)20 fault zones cut through the Neoproterozoic to Lower Triassic Jialingjiang Formation, presenting a 3-D structure of an“S”-shaped ribbon. And before Permian and during the Early Triassic, the F_(I)19 and F_(I)20 fault zones underwent at least two periods of structural superimposition.Besides, the 3 sets of northwest-trending en echelon normal faults are composed of small normal faults arranged in pairs, with opposite dip directions and partially left-stepped arrangement. And before Permian, they had formed almost, restricting the eastward growth and propagation of the F_(I)19 fault zone. The F_(I)19 and F_(I)20 fault zones communicate multiple sets of source rocks and reservoirs from deep to shallow, and the timing of fault activity matches well with oil and gas generation peaks. If there were favorable Cambrian-Triassic sedimentary facies and reservoirs developing on the local anticlinal belts of both sides of the F_(I)19 and F_(I)20 fault zones, the major reservoirs in this area are expected to achieve breakthroughs in oil and gas exploration. 展开更多

Objective:To highlight the role of hyper accuracy three-dimensional(3D)reconstruction in facilitating surgical planning and guiding selective clamping during robot-assisted partial nephrectomy(RAPN).Methods:A transperitoneal RAPN was performed in a 62-year-old male patient presenting with a 4 cm right anterior interpolar renal mass(R.E.N.A.L nephrometry score 7A).An abnormal vasculature was observed, with a single renal vein and two right renal arteries originating superiorly to the vein and anterior, when dividing in their segmental branches.According to the hyper accuracy 3D(HA3D^(®))rainbow model(MEDICS Srl,Turin,Italy),one branch belonging to one of the segmental arteries was feeding the tumor. This allowed for an accurate prediction of the area vascularized by each arterial branch. The 3D model was included in the intraoperative console view during the whole procedure, using the TilePro feature.A step-by-step explanation of the procedure is provided in the video attached to the present article. Results:The operative time was 90 min with a warm ischemia time on selective clamping of 13 min.Estimated blood loss was 180 mL.No intraoperative complication was encountered and no drain was placed at the end of the procedure. The patient was discharged on postoperative Day 2,without any early postoperative complications. The final pathology report showed a pathological tumor stage 1 clear cell renal cell carcinoma with negative surgical margins. Conclusion:The present study and the attached video illustrate the value of 3D rainbow model during the planning and execution of a RAPN with selective clamping. It shows how the surgeon can rely on this model to be more efficient by avoiding unnecessary surgical steps, and to safely adopt a“selective”clamping strategy that can translate in minimal functional impact. 展开更多

To address the problem that the display effect of hydrologic test data was not intuitive, the three-dimensional modeling technology of a hydrologic test reach based on GIS technology was proposed. The reach of of the Yellow River around Lanzhou hydrological station was selected to study three-dimensional modeling. The elevation data of river was processed through three-dimensional model constructing, water surface modeling and three-dimensional animation demonstration by using ArcGIS Pro software.Based on the historical highest flood level data of the test reach on September 15,1981,the real scene restoration was carried out based on the three-dimensional model, and the hydrological factors such as water depth and channel storage were analyzed. The three-dimensional modeling based on GIS technology can directly and realistically reflect the changes of topography and water surface of the test reach, and improve the application of hydrologic test results in flood control. 展开更多
