High-density electrical method has been proved to be an effective method for probing shallow sedimentary layers. It is principally used to identify the boundary between the Quaternary soil layer and bedrock according to the vertical change of apparent resistivity. However, the artificial filling layer has the characteristics of heterogeneity and high porosity, which makes it challenging to detect the artificial filling layer by high-density electrical method. The key to solve this problem is to detect the difference of conductivity between the filling layer and the underlying bedrock. This paper takes the land in Chengjiangshan area of Huaibei City,Anhui Province as the detection target. On the basis of fully analyzing the physical properties of the artificial filling layer,two-dimensional high-density electrical survey and inversion are used to define the thickness of the artificial filling layer. The research shows that the highdensity resistivity method has obvious advantages in delineating the distribution of bedrock and the thickness of the filling layer, and the reliability of the high-density electrical method in the detection of the artificial filling layer, and delineates the scope of the filling layer is verified by the borehole data. 展开更多

The three-dimensional instability of an electrically conducting fluid between two parallel plates affected by an imposed transversal magnetic field is numerically investigated by a Chebyshev collocation method. The QZ method is utilized to obtain neutral curves of the linear instability. The details of instability are analyzed by solving the generalized Orr-Sommerfeld equation. The critical Reynolds number Rec, the stream-wise and span-wise critical wave numbers αc and βc are obtained for a wide range of Hartmann number Ha. The effects of Lorentz force and span-wise perturbation on three-dimensional instability are investigated. The results show that magnetic field would suppress the instability and critical Reynolds number tends to be larger than that for two-dimensional instability. 展开更多

A modeling tool for simulating three-dimensional land frequency-domain controlled-source electromagnetic surveys, based on a finite-element discretization of the Helmholtz equation for the electric fields, has been developed. The main difference between our modeling method and those previous works is edge finite-element approach applied to solving the three-dimensional land frequency-domain electromagnetic responses generated by horizontal electric dipole source.Firstly, the edge finite-element equation is formulated through the Galerkin method based on Helmholtz equation of the electric fields.Secondly,in order to check the validity of the modeling code, the numerical results are compared with the analytical solutions for a homogeneous half-space model. Finally, other three models are simulated with three-dimensional electromagnetic responses. The results indicate that the method can be applied for solving three-dimensional electromagnetic responses. The algorithm has been demonstrated, which can be effective to modeling the complex geo-electrical structures. This efficient algorithm will help to study the distribution laws of3-D land frequency-domain controlled-source electromagnetic responses and to setup basis for research of three-dimensional inversion. 展开更多

By determining the distribution and extent of geological structures surrounding the Mingyan Tunnel,Xicheng Town,Helong City,Jilin Province,we can evaluate the stability of the rock mass and assess potential hazards during tunnel construction. We use the high-density resistivity method to analyze the subsurface structure of the study area.Conductive anomalies are likely to represent joint and fissure systems within strongly weathered host rocks, and the bedrock surrounding the tunnel is relatively stable and does not contain well-developed faults.High-density resistivity analysis can provide valuable information in the context of tunnel engineering and safety. 展开更多

Some unfavorable geological conditions can affect the construction of tunnels. In order to evaluate the damage degree of tunnel construction and determine the surrounding rock grade and stability of the tunnel, the authors used high-density resistivity method to detect the surrounding rocks of Shimodong tunnel in Xicheng Town of Helong City. The underground resistivity structures of the entrance, exit and middle parts of the tunnel are obtained.Through analysis,it is found that there are no bedrock faults near the tunnel, although some joints and fissures are developed in some locations, which are characterized by low-resistivity anomalies. The tunnel structures are stable overall, favorable for safe and efficient construction. The study also proves the good application effect of the high-density resistivity method in tunnel safety detection. 展开更多

The authors employ the high-density resistivity method during an archaeological investigation of Sumicheng site,an ancient city of the Tang Dynasty,to find evidence of human activities and locate a favorable target for archaeological excavation in the southern part of the outer city. There are two obvious high-resistivity structures, the south wall of the inner city and an ancient building near the south gate along the outer city wall,of which the resistivities are indicative of rammed soil foundations. The south wall of the inner city is continuous but is cut off abruptly to the east, which we suggest it is due to either wall damage or destruction. The resistivity signature of the target area is verified by archaeological excavation, proving the feasibility and effectiveness of implementing the high-density resistivity method for archaeological exploration. 展开更多

We calculate the multicomponent responses of surface-hole transient electromagnetic method. The methods and models are unsuitable as geoelectric models of conductive surrounding rocks because they are based on regular local targets. We also propose a calculation and analysis scheme based on numerical simulations of the subsurface transient electromagnetic fields. In the modeling of the electromagnetic fields, the forward modeling simulations are performed by using the finite-difference time-domain method and the discrete image method, which combines the Gaver–Stehfest inverse Laplace transform with the Prony method to solve the initial electromagnetic fields. The precision in the iterative computations is ensured by using the transmission boundary conditions. For the response analysis, we customize geoelectric models consisting of near-borehole targets and conductive wall rocks and implement forward modeling simulations. The observed electric fields are converted into induced electromotive force responses using multicomponent observation devices. By comparing the transient electric fields and multicomponent responses under different conditions, we suggest that the multicomponent-induced electromotive force responses are related to the horizontal and vertical gradient variations of the transient electric field at different times. The characteristics of the response are determined by the varying the subsurface transient electromagnetic fields, i.e., diffusion, attenuation and distortion, under different conditions as well as the electromagnetic fields at the observation positions. The calculation and analysis scheme of the response consider the surrounding rocks and the anomalous field of the local targets. It therefore can account for the geological data better than conventional transient field response analysis of local targets. 展开更多

The principles, methods, technologies and application effects of several electromagnetic methods for the detection of the hidden danger of water gushing at the coal face were introduced. Also, emphasis was laid on expounding the methods, principles and effects of down-hole detections by electric transmission tomography and transient electromagnetic method. The potential of point power supplied in the underground homogeneous semi-space, as well as the response to a low-resistivity abnormal body in the homogeneous semi-space, was simulated by adopting 3-D finite element method to interpret the basic theory of the electric transmission tomography. The results of actual measurement show that the mine electromagnetic method is sensitive to water-bearing low-resistivity bodies and can play a unique role in detecting the hidden danger of water gushing at the coal face. 展开更多

Drilling a well randomly would lead to high uncertainties and could not meet the demand of water supply from the increasing population. It is in dire need to improve success rate of well drilling. The high-density resistivity method offers us a good choice. In this study,high-density resistivity method is used for groundwater survey in five villages in the Taobei District of Baicheng. The data obtained by high-density resistivity method is inverted through Res2dinv software. It is found that the electrical structure is characterized by a horizontal layer distribution, and the resistivity shows a"high-medium low-low"feature from shallow to deep. Moreover, obvious electrical gradient zones are identified in the strata below each section, which are interpreted as tectonic weak zones,i.e.,the faults. The low-resistance anomaly areas are inferred to be favorable aquifers. The results show that high-density resistivity exploration is an efficient and practical method for determining water well sites in rural areas and can provide a guide for finding water resources in the area. 展开更多

What must be controlled in garbage disposal is the calculation of garbage volume. In this paper, according to the different landfill conditions of a landfill in Anhui, including: covering soil, overlying HDPE membrane, overlying concrete, etc., combined with the physical differences between the rock mass and the garbage at the bottom of the landfill. The landfill covered with HDPE membrane adopts the transient electromagnetic method, the landfill covered with soil layer adopts the high-density electrical method, and the landfill covered with concrete adopts the combination of transient electromagnetic method and ground penetrating radar. At the same time, Combines the borehole data to determine that the resistivity value of the interface between the garbage and the soil was 29 Ω⋅m. Finally, the sections of multiple survey lines can accomplish three-dimensional stereoscopic that calculate the distribution and actual volume of the garbage. This method is used to determine the final investment cost. 展开更多

This work deals with the numerical localization of small electromagnetic inhomogeneities. The underlying inverse problem considers, in a three-dimensional bounded domain, the time-harmonic Maxwell equations formulated in electric field. Typically, the domain contains a finite number of unknown inhomogeneities of small volume and the inverse problem attempts to localize these inhomogeneities from a finite number of boundary measurements. Our localization approach is based on a recent framework that uses an asymptotic expansion for the perturbations in the tangential boundary trace of the curl of the electric field. We present three numerical localization procedures resulting from the combination of this asymptotic expansion with each of the following inversion algorithms: the Current Projection method, the MUltiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm, and an Inverse Fourier method. We perform a numerical study of the asymptotic expansion and compare the numerical results obtained from the three localization procedures in different settings. 展开更多
