Convectively unstable processes caused by dense water subsidence are common occurrences in high-latitude oceanic regions, and significantly modulate mass and heat transport and mixing processes in the ocean. An idealized numerical experiment using the large eddy simulation method was conducted to analyze the three-dimensional flow field structure and the mechanism for dense water subsidence.Specifically,a negative salt flux is set at the sea surface,in which salt flux enters the sea surface to simulate the icing and salting-out phenomena that occur at high latitudes. Results show that the mean-state 3D flow field of dense water subsidence exhibits a hollow conical distribution. The horizontal flow field is characterized by a cyclonic vortex that driven primarily by the pressure gradient and influenced by the Coriolis effect. Moreover, the inverse vertical pressure gradient generated by this vortex inhibits the sinking of the plume, leading to its off-axis deflection and the development of an anticyclonic precession. In addition, the impact of rotation on the structure of a sinking plume within a stratified environment is discussed. Both horizontal vortex intensity and cone angle of the hollow cone flow field are increased with increasing rotation rate, resulting in a decrease in the plume’s maximum sinking depth.Variances in rotation direction cause the horizontal vortex and sinking plumes of dense water in the northern and southern hemispheres to rotate in opposite directions. 展开更多

Fluid flow obeys Darcy–Forchheimer porous medium. A bidirectional nonlinear stretching surface generates the flow. Convective surface condition of heat transfer is taken into consideration. Further the zero nanoparticles mass flux condition is imposed at the boundary. Effects of thermophoresis and Brownian diffusion are considered. Assumption of boundary layer has been employed in the problem formulation. Convergent series solutions for the nonlinear governing system are established through the optimal homotopy analysis method(OHAM). Graphs have been sketched in order to analyze that how the velocity, temperature and concentration distributions are affected by distinct emerging flow parameters. Skin friction coefficients and local Nusselt number are also computed and discussed. 展开更多

This paper presents a numerical study of the flow topologies of three-dimensional (3D) flows in a high pressure compressor stator blade row without and with boundary layer aspiration on the hub wall. The stator blade is representative of the first stage operating under transonic inlet conditions and the blade design encourages development of highly complex 3D flows. The blade has a small tip clearance. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) studies show progressive increase of hub corner stall with the increase in incidence. Aspiration is implemented on the hub wall via a slot in the comer between the hub wall and the suction surface. The CFD studies show aspiration to be sensitive to the suction flow rate; lower rate leads to very complex flow struc- tures and increased level of losses whereas higher rate renders aspiration effective for control of hub comer separation. The flow topologies are studied by trace of skin friction lines on the walls. The nature of flow can be explained by the topological rules of closed separation. Furthermore, a deeper analysis is done for a particular case with advanced criterion to test the non-degeneracy of critical points in the flow field. 展开更多

Based on the working of Lighthill and Hunt et al., in the present paper the author has established the topological rules adapting to analysing the skin-friction lines and the section streamlines in cascades. These rules are (1) for a rotor cascade without shroud band, the total number of nodal points equals that the saddle points on the skin-friction line vector fields in eachpitch range; (2) for an annular or straight cascade with no-clearances at blade ends, the total number of saddle points is two more than that of nodal points on the skin-friction line fields in a pitch; (3) the total number of saddles in the secondary flow fields on cross-sections in cascade is one less than that of nodes; (4) in the section streamline vector fields on a meridian surface penetrating a flow passage, and on leading and trailing edge sections, the total number of nodes is equal to that of saddles; (5) on the streamline vector fields of a blade-to-blade surface, the total number of nodes is one less than that of saddles. 展开更多

Flow is caused by a bidirectional stretching surface. Series solutions are constructed for the velocity and temperature fields. Convergence of series solutions is ensured graphically and numerically. The variations of key parameters on the physical quantities are shown and discussed in detail. Constructed series solutions are compared with the existing solutions in the limiting case and an excellent agreement is noticed. Nusselt numbers are computed with and without magnetic fields. Heat and mass transfer effects in three-dimensional flow of Maxwell fluid over a stretching surface were addressed.Analysis was performed in the presence of internal heat generation/absorption. Concentration and thermal buoyancy effects were accounted. Convective boundary conditions for heat and mass transfer analysis were explored. Series solutions of the resulting problem were developed. Effects of mixed convection, internal heat generation/absorption parameter and Biot numbers on the dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration distributions were illustrated graphically. Numerical values of local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers were obtained and analyzed for all the physical parameters. It is found that both thermal and concentration boundary layer thicknesses are decreasing functions of stretching ratio. Variations of mixed convection parameter and concentration buoyancy parameter on the velocity profiles and associated boundary layer thicknesses are enhanced. Velocity profiles and temperature increase in the case of internal heat generation while they reduce for heat absorption. Heat transfer Biot number increases the thermal boundary layer thickness and temperature. Also concentration and its associated boundary layer are enhanced with an increase in mass transfer Biot number. The local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers have quite similar behaviors for increasing values of mixed convection parameter, concentration buoyancy parameter and Deborah number. 展开更多

An experimental investigation of three-dimensional flow field in a film-cooled turbine model is carried out by using particle image velocimeter (PIV) in a low-speed wind tunnel. The effects of different blowing ratios (M=1.5, 2) on the flow field are studied. The experimental results reveal the classical phenomena of the formation of kidney vortex pair and secondary flow in wake region behind the jet hole. And the changes of the kidney vortex pair and the wake at different locations away from the hole on the suction and pressure sides are also studied. Compared with the flow field in stationary cascade, there are centrifugal force and Coriolis force existing in the flow field of rotating turbine, and these forces bring the radial velocity in the jet flow. The effect of rotatien on the flow field of the pressure side is more distinct than that on the suction side from the measured flow fields in Y-Z plane and radial velocity contours. The increase of blowing ratio makes the kidney vortex pair and the secondary flow in the wake region stronger and makes the range of the wake region enlarged. 展开更多

An in-compressible viscoelastic fluid is used in mathematical formulation. The conjugate convective process (in which heat the transfer rate from the bounding surface with a finite capacity is proportional to the local surface temperature) in three-dimensional flow of a differential type of non-Newtonian fluid is analyzed for the first time. Series solutions for the nonlinear differential system are computed. Plots are presented for the description of emerging parameters entering into the problem. Three-dimensional flow field of turbine in torque converter is simulated by numerical calculation in order to improve the performance of torque converter. Calculation model of a torque converter is presented based on the mixing-plane technology. In the calculation of flow field, the 3D N-S equations are separated by finite-volume method and solved by semi-implicit method for pressure-linked equations(SIMPLE). Based on flow field calculation, the flow field of turbine is simulated. The velocity and pressure in the flow field of turbine are analyzed. The external performance of the torque converter is also calculated. Results of flow simulation show that there are secondary flow, off flow and velocity gradient in turbine passage. Gaseous detonation propagating in a toroidal chamber was numerically studied for hydrogen/oxygen/nitrogen mixtures. The numerical method used is based on the three-dimensional Euler equations with detailed finiterate chemistry. The results show that the calculated streak picture is in qualitative agreement with the picture recorded by a high speed streak camera from published literature. The three-dimensional flow field induced by a continuously rotating detonation was visualized and distinctive features of the rotating detonations were clearly depicted. Owing to the unconfined character of detonation wavelet, a deficit of detonation parameters was observed. Due to the effects of wall geometries, the strength of the outside detonation front is stronger than that of the inside portion. The detonation thus propagates with a constant circular velocity. Numerical simulation also shows three-dimensional rotating detonation structures, which display specific feature of the detonation- shock combined wave. Discrete burning gas pockets are formed due to instability of the discontinuity. It is believed that the present study could give an insight into the interest- ing properties of the continuously rotating detonation, and is thus beneficial to the design of continuous detonation propulsion systems. 展开更多

A new flow field mathematical model is proposed to describe accurately the flow field structure and calculate the static characteristics of the pilot stage in a deflector jet servo valve(DJSV). The flow field is divided into five regions, a 3D turbulent jet is adopted to describe the free jet region, and a velocity distribution expression of the jet is proposed. The jet entrainment model is put forward in the pressure recovery region to describe the coupling relationship between the pressure in the receiving chamber and the jet flow. The static characteristics, including pressure-flow characteristics, pressure characteristics, and flow characteristics of the pilot stage are obtained. The flow field structure and the static characteristics are verified by finite element analysis(FEA) and experiment, respectively, and the mathematical model results are in good agreement with the experimental and simulation results. 展开更多

A kind of three-dimensional flow-path of the ram-rotor was designed in this paper according to the design method of the typical supersonic intake of aircraft and missiles, especially the design method of the compression ramp, the throat and the subsonic diffuser. The design Mach number of the flow-path was based on the averaged relative Mach number, regardless of the change of incoming Mach number along radial direction of the flow-path.Then,the flowfield of the designed flow-path was simulated numerically with computational fluid dynamics software at design point. The purpose of simulation was to obtain the details of the flowfield, including the structure of the shock wave system, position of flow separation zone, and so on.The performance of the ram-rotor was also evaluated. The numerical results show the structure of the shock wave system in the flow-path is similar to that in the supersonic intake. To improve the overall performance of the ram-rotor,the reasonable compromise between the total pressure ratio and the isentropic adiabatic efficiency should be reached. The structure optimization of the flow-path and the configuration of the shock wave system have great influence on the performance of the ram-rotor. 展开更多

The increasing performance demands of modern aero engines necessitate the integrated design of compressor transition ducts with upstream components to reduce the axial length of the engine. However, this design approach narrows the spacing between the stator and the strut, making traditional research on transition ducts only with struts unsuitable. The numerical results and experimental oil flow visualization results were utilized to reconstruct the three-dimensional flow structures in the stator passages under various operating conditions.Additionally, numerical methods were employed to analyze the mechanisms of the strut's effect on the upstream stator in an aggressive transition duct. The results show that the strut potential field increases the load on the upstream stator, leading to severe blade surface separation and corner separation/stall,and redistributes the inflow angle of the upstream stators circumferentially, resulting in significant differences in the flow structures within the stator passages on both sides. The separation flows within the stator passages mainly manifest in five types:pressure surface separation vortex, suction surface concentrated shedding vortex, suction surface separation vortex, suction surface-corner stall separation vortex, and suction surface separation vortex pair.Under different operating conditions, the separation flows within the stator passages are always composed of a part of these five types or a transitional state between two of them. 展开更多

Long-duration energy storage has become critical for renewable energy integration. While redox flow batteries, especially vanadium-based systems, are scaling up in capacity, their performance at the stack level remains insufficiently optimized, demanding more profound mechanistic studies and engineering refinements. To address the difficulties in resolving the flow inhomogeneity at the stack scale, this study establishes a multi-physics field coupling model and analyzes the pressure distributions, flow rate differences, active substance concentration, and electrochemical characteristics. The results show that the uneven cell pressure distribution is a key factor affecting the consistency of the system performance, and the increase in the flow rate improves the reactant homogeneity, with both the average concentration and the uniformity factor increasing with the flow rate.In contrast, high current densities lead to an increased imbalance between electrochemical depletion and reactant replenishment, resulting in a significant decrease in reactant concentration in the under-ribs region. In addition,a higher flow rate can expand the high-current-density region where the stack operates efficiently. This study provides a theoretical basis for optimizing the design of the stack components. 展开更多

To address the problem of multi-missile cooperative interception against maneuvering targets at a prespecified impact time and desired Line-of-Sight(LOS)angles in ThreeDimensional(3D)space,this paper proposes a 3D leader-following cooperative interception guidance law.First,in the LOS direction of the leader,an impact time-controlled guidance law is derived based on the fixed-time stability theory, which enables the leader to complete the interception task at a prespecified impact time.Next,in the LOS direction of the followers,by introducing a time consensus tracking error function,a fixed-time consensus tracking guidance law is investigated to guarantee the consensus tracking convergence of the time-to-go.Then,in the direction normal to the LOS,by combining the designed global integral sliding mode surface and the second-order Sliding Mode Control(SMC)theory,an innovative 3D LOS-angle-constrained interception guidance law is developed, which eliminates the reaching phase in the traditional sliding mode guidance laws and effectively saves energy consumption. Moreover,it effectively suppresses the chattering phenomenon while avoiding the singularity issue, and compensates for unknown interference caused by target maneuvering online, making it convenient for practical engineering applications. Finally, theoretical proof analysis and multiple sets of numerical simulation results verify the effectiveness, superiority, and robustness of the investigated guidance law. 展开更多

Liposarcoma is one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas, however, its occurrence rate is still rare compared to other cancers.Due to its rarity,in vitro experiments are an essential approach to elucidate liposarcoma pathobiology.Conventional cell culture-based research(2D cell culture)is still playing a pivotal role, while several shortcomings have been recently under discussion. In vivo, mouse models are usually adopted for pre-clinical analyses with expectations to overcome the issues of 2D cell culture. However, they do not fully recapitulate human dedifferentiated liposarcoma(DDLPS)characteristics.Therefore,three-dimensional(3D)culture systems have been the recent research focus in the cell biology field with the expectation to overcome at the same time the disadvantages of 2D cell culture and in vivo animal models and fill in the gap between them.Given the liposarcoma rarity,we believe that 3D cell culture techniques, including 3D cell cultures/co-cultures,and Patient-Derived tumor Organoids(PDOs),represent a promising approach to facilitate liposarcoma investigation and elucidate its molecular mechanisms and effective therapy development. In this review,we first provide a general overview of 3D cell cultures compared to 2D cell cultures. We then focus on one of the recent 3D cell culture applications,Patient-Derived Organoids(PDOs),summarizing and discussing several PDO methodologies. Finally,we discuss the current and future applications of PDOs to sarcoma, particularly in the field of liposarcoma. 展开更多
