Accelerated aging tests are widely used to rapidly evaluate the durability of materials,of which thermal-oxidative aging is the most common approach. To quantitatively predict the effects of multiple coupled factors, this study takes polyamide66 reinforced with glass fiber(PA66-GF)as a model system and proposed a high-precision paradigm for coupled thermal-oxidative aging.By integrating Arrhenius-type reaction kinetics with oxygen diffusion,a predictive formula that holistically captures the nonlinear synergistic effects of multiple factors was developed, thereby overcoming the limitations of traditional single-variable models.A systematic evaluation of the stepwise improved formulas through nonlinear fitting showed that the coefficient of determination(R^(2))increased from 0.223 to 0.803,elucidating the fundamental reason why conventional approaches fail in quantitative prediction. These formulae were further embedded as physical constraints into a physics-informed neural network(PINN),which further enhanced the predictive performance, with the proposed formula achieving a peak R^(2)of 0.946.The results highlight that robust data fitting alone is insufficient;the decisive factor for the success of PINN lies in whether the embedded formula faithfully reflects the underlying physical mechanisms. When applied to polyamide 6 reinforced with glass fiber(PA6-GF),the Formula-constrained PINN maintained a high level of accuracy(R^(2)=0.916),demonstrating its strong cross-system generalizability. In summary, this work establishes a robust hybrid physics-machine learning framework that combines high accuracy with transferability for predicting the thermal-oxidative aging behavior of composite material systems. 展开更多

Styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) modified bitumen crack filling material with organophilic montmorillonite (OCFM) was prepared by melt blending. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the interlayer spacing of organophilic montmorillonite (OMMT) in OCFM is widened and an exfoliated structure may be formed. Thermal-oxidative aging behavior of OCFM and SBS modified bitumen crack filling material (SCFM) was investigated. The experimental results indicate that the rate of thermal-oxidative aging of OCFM is much slower than that of SCFM, which can be attributed to barrier of exfoliated structure of OCFM to oxygen. 展开更多

The antioxidant N-isopropyl-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine(4010NA)was dissolved in ethanol and impregnated into silica aerogel(SAG)via vacuum-pressure cycles, yielding composite particles(A-N)with enhanced sustained-release and reinforcing capabilities. The effect of A-N on the mechanical properties and thermal-oxidative aging resistance of styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR)vulcanizates was investigated.TGA and BET assessments indicated that the loading efficiency of 4010NA in SAG reached 14.26%within ethanol's solu bility limit.Incorporating A-N into SBR vulcanizates significantly elevated tensile strength by 17.5%and elongation at break by 41.9%over those with fumed silica and free4010NA.Furthermore,A-N notably enhanced the thermal-oxidative aging resistance of SBR.After aging for 96 h at 100℃,the tensile strength and elongation at break of SBR with A-N sustained 70.09%and 58.61%of their initial values, respectively, with the retention rate of elongation at break being 62.8%higher than that of SBR with fumed silica and free antioxidant. The study revealed that A-N composite particles significantly inhibited the crosslinking in SBR's molecular chains, reducing hardening and embrittlement during later thermal-oxidative aging stages. 展开更多

Hydrogenated nitrile rubber(HNBR)was prepared by selective hydrogenation of nitrile-butadiene rubber latex using hydrazine hydrate/hydrogen peroxide catalytic system, which effectively resolved the problems with environment pollution and high cost caused by noble metal catalyst via solution hydrogenation method.Because of the saturation of carbon-carbon double bonds after hydrogenation,HNBR presented excellent thermal-oxidative aging resistance. The thermaloxidative activation of HNBR prepared in situ was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method.Meanwhile, the microstructure and mechanical properties of HNBR was studied during the thermal-oxidative aging process. The relationship between lifetime and aging temperature was evaluated as well as the thermal-oxidative aging coefficient of HNBR,which provided theoretical basis for the application of HNBR under the high temperature and in harsh environment. 展开更多

Organic montmorillonite(OMMT) modified bitumen nanocomposites was prepared by melt blending. The effects of thin-film oven test(TFOT) and pressure ageing vessel(PAV) on rheological properties of pristine bitumen and OMMT modified bitumen were investigated by dynamic shear rheometer(DSR).The results show that complex modulus(G*) increases, phase angle(δ) decreases and rutting factor(G*/sin δ) is enhanced for the pristine bitumen after TFOT,whereas G*,δ and G*/sin δ of OMMT modified bitumen have a little change before and after TFOT.Besides, the pristine bitumen exhibits a large increase of G* and a great decrease of δ after PAV aging. However, the changes in G* and δ of OMMT modified bitumen are small before and after PAV.Compared with the pristine bitumen,OMMT modified bitumen presents a lower fatigue factor(G*sin δ) after PAV.As a consequence, resistance to thermal-oxidative aging of bitumen is remarkably improved due to the introduction of OMMT. 展开更多

In modern ZnO varistors, traditional aging mechanisms based on increased power consumption are no longer relevant due to reduced power consumption during DC aging.Prolonged exposure to both AC and DC voltages results in increased leakage current, decreased breakdown voltage, and lower nonlinearity, ultimately compromising their protective performance. To investigate the evolution in electrical properties during DC aging, this work developed a finite element model based on Voronoi networks and conducted accelerated aging tests on commercial varistors.Throughout the aging process,current-voltage characteristics and Schottky barrier parameters were measured and analyzed. The results indicate that when subjected to constant voltage, current flows through regions with larger grain sizes, forming discharge channels. As aging progresses, the current focus increases on these channels, leading to a decline in the varistor’s overall performance.Furthermore, analysis of the Schottky barrier parameters shows that the changes in electrical performance during aging are non-monotonic.These findings offer theoretical support for understanding the aging mechanisms and condition assessment of modern stable ZnO varistors. 展开更多

Aging is a physiological and complex process produced by accumulative age-dependent cellular damage, which significantly impacts brain regions like the hippocampus,an essential region involved in memory and learning.A crucial factor contributing to this decline is the dysfunction of mitochondria, particularly those located at synapses.Synaptic mitochondria are specialized organelles that produce the energy required for synaptic transmission but are also important for calcium homeostasis at these sites. In contrast,non-synaptic mitochondria primarily involve cellular metabolism and long-term energy supply. Both pools of mitochondria differ in their form, proteome, functionality, and cellular role. The proper functioning of synaptic mitochondria depends on processes such as mitochondrial dynamics, transport, and quality control. However, synaptic mitochondria are particularly vulnerable to age-associated damage, characterized by oxidative stress, impaired energy production, and calcium dysregulation. These changes compromise synaptic transmission, reducing synaptic activity and cognitive decline during aging. In the context of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s,Parkinson’s,and Huntington’s,the decline of synaptic mitochondrial function is even more pronounced. These diseases are marked by pathological protein accumulation, disrupted mitochondrial dynamics, and heightened oxidative stress, accelerating synaptic dysfunction and neuronal loss.Due to their specialized role and location, synaptic mitochondria are among the first organelles to exhibit dysfunction, underscoring their critical role in disease progression. This review delves into the main differences at structural and functional levels between synaptic and non-synaptic mitochondria, emphasizing the vulnerability of synaptic mitochondria to the aging process and neurodegeneration. These approaches highlight the potential of targeting synaptic mitochondria to mitigate age-associated cognitive impairment and synaptic degeneration. This review emphasizes the distinct vulnerabilities of hippocampal synaptic mitochondria, highlighting their essential role in sustaining brain function throughout life and their promise as therapeutic targets for safeguarding the cognitive capacities of people of advanced age. 展开更多

The study evaluated the skin anti-aging activity of Astragalus sarcocolla leaves extract(ASE)by assessing its antioxidant and inhibitory effect activity on matrix metalloproteinase(MMP),collagenase, elastase, hyaluronidase, and tyrosinase in relation to its chemical composition.Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry(UPLC-MS)identified 27 metabolites(15 flavonoids,8 phenolic acids and their derivatives, and 4 coumarins).ASE showed strong antioxidant capacity in DPPH(IC_(50)value of 26.05μg/mL)and FRAP(2433μM FeSO_(4)/g extract)assays. The extract inhibited MMP-1 and MMP-9 in a concentration-dependent manner and suppressed collagenase, elastase, hyaluronidase, and tyrosinase activities(IC_(50)=35.038,40.748,61.389,and 30.980μg/mL,respectively).A network pharmacology study was conducted to uncover the mechanisms responsible for skin anti-aging effects, and molecular docking further evaluated interactions of key metabolites with hub targets.Twenty-one bioactive metabolites, selected based on oral bioavailability and drug-likeness,highlighted cinnamic acid, acacetin, luteolin, kaempferol, and apigenin as key compounds.MMP-9,ESR1,PTGS-2,and EGFR were identified as main targets.Docking studies revealed that acacetin and apigenin have stronger binding affinities to MMP-9,PTGS-2,and EGFR than other constituents. These findings suggest that ASE may serve as a natural multi-target skin anti-aging remedy with potential cosmetic applications. 展开更多

Mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress are widely regarded as primary drivers of aging and are associated with several neurodegenerative diseases. The degeneration of motor neurons during aging is a critical pathological factor contributing to the progression of sarcopenia. However, the morphological and functional changes in mitochondria and their interplay in the degeneration of the neuromuscular junction during aging remain poorly understood.A defined systematic search of the Pub Med,Web of Science and Embase databases(last accessed on October 30,2024)was conducted with search terms including'mitochondria','aging'and'NMJ'.Clinical and preclinical studies of mitochondrial dysfunction and neuromuscular junction degeneration during aging.Twentyseven studies were included in this systematic review. This systematic review provides a summary of morphological, functional and biological changes in neuromuscular junction, mitochondrial morphology, biosynthesis, respiratory chain function, and mitophagy during aging. We focus on the interactions and mechanisms underlying the relationship between mitochondria and neuromuscular junctions during aging.Aging is characterized by significant reductions in mitochondrial fusion/fission cycles, biosynthesis, and mitochondrial quality control, which may lead to neuromuscular junction dysfunction, denervation and poor physical performance.Motor nerve terminals that exhibit redox sensitivity are among the first to exhibit abnormalities, ultimately leading to an early decline in muscle strength through impaired neuromuscular junction transmission function.Parg coactivator 1 alpha is a crucial molecule that regulates mitochondrial biogenesis and modulates various pathways, including the mitochondrial respiratory chain, energy deficiency, oxidative stress, and inflammation.Mitochondrial dysfunction is correlated with neuromuscular junction denervation and acetylcholine receptor fragmentation, resulting in muscle atrophy and a decrease in strength during aging.Physical therapy, pharmacotherapy, and gene therapy can alleviate the structural degeneration and functional deterioration of neuromuscular junction by restoring mitochondrial function. Therefore, mitochondria are considered potential targets for preserving neuromuscular junction morphology and function during aging to treat sarcopenia. 展开更多

A multistage solution treatment process was applied for nickel-based single crystal superalloys, complemented by various aging durations and cooling rates. The microstructure was characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)to observe the γ'phase.Additionally, phase field simulations were conducted to model the growth ofγ'precipitates during aging and analyze their morphological evolution. The experimental results demonstrated that the multistage solution treatment effectively eliminated eutectic phases and carbides. Moreover, samples aged for 10 min exhibited larger and more rectangularγ'precipitates compared with those aged for 5 min.Notably, secondary γ'precipitates were observed in samples subjected to water cooling. Two indices for quantifying rectangularization were proposed and successfully applied.Based on the simulation results, lattice mismatch induced coherency stresses and elevated stress triaxiality along the <111> direction contributed to the rectangularization of theγ'phase. 展开更多

Regenerative medicine is a promising therapeutic avenue for previously incurable diseases. As the risk of chronic and degenerative diseases significantly increases with age,the elderly population represents a major cohort for stem cell-based therapies. However, the regenerative potential of stem cells significantly decreases with advanced age and deteriorating health status of the donor. Therefore, the efficacy of autologous stem cell therapy is significantly compromised in older patients. To overcome these limitations, alternative strategies have been used to restore the age-and disease-depleted function of stem cells. These methods aim to restore the therapeutic efficacy of aged stem cells for autologous use. This article explores the effect of donor age and health status on the regenerative potential of stem cells. It further highlights the limitations of stem cell-based therapy for autologous treatment in the elderly.A comprehensive insight into the potential strategies to address the“age”and“disease”compromised regenerative potential of autologous stem cells is also presented. The information provided here serves as a valuable resource for physicians and patients for optimization of stem cellbased autologous therapy for aged patients. 展开更多

The effects of artificial aging(T6)on the creep resistance with tensile stresses in the range of 50−80 MPa at 175℃were investigated for an extruded Mg−1.22Al−0.31Ca−0.44Mn(wt.%)alloy.The Guinier-Preston(G.P.)zones primarily precipitate in the sample aged at 200℃for 1 h(T6-200℃/1h),while the Al_(2)Ca phases mainly precipitate in the sample aged at 275℃for 8 h(T6-275℃/8h).The T6-200℃/1h sample exhibits excellent creep resistance, with a steady-state creep rate one order of magnitude lower than that of the T6-275℃/8h sample. The abnormally high stress exponent(~8.2)observed in the T6-200℃/1h sample is associated with the power-law breakdown mechanism.TEM analysis illuminates that the creep mechanism for the T6-200℃/1h sample is cross-slip between basal and prismatic dislocations, while the T6-275℃/8h sample exhibits a mixed mechanism of dislocation cross-slip and climb.Compared with the Al_(2)Ca phase, the dense G.P.zones effectively impede dislocation climb and glide during the creep process, demonstrating superior creep resistance of the T6-200℃/1h sample. 展开更多

To investigate the influencesof non-plastic silt and soil aging on the re-liquefaction resistance of sands,a series of undrained triaxial tests was performed on sand-silt mixtures with finescontent ranging from 0%to 100%,as well as on undisturbed and reconstituted non-plastic sandy soils retrieved from earth structures with a history of earthquake-induced damage. The specimens on sand-silt mixtures were produced under an initial degree of compaction of 95%.In these tests, liquefaction histories were applied three times to a single specimen under the same cyclic stress ratio after the respective consolidation stages with the measurements of the shear wave velocities. The following conclusions can be obtained from the test results:(1)The liquefaction resistance obtained in the firstto third cyclicloading stages decreased initially with increasing finescontent up to about 45%,while it increased afterward. Therefore, the susceptibility of sands containing a relatively large amount of non-plastic silt to reliquefaction may be more significantthan that of clean sands;(2)The liquefaction resistance and the shear wave velocity decreased significantlyduring the second cyclic-loading stage and after the second consolidation, respectively, despite an increase in the specimen density caused by the first liquefaction history, while they increased in the third stage. The possible reason for this change would be the disturbance of soil structures due to liquefaction, which may be partially evaluated by the volumetric strain during the respective consolidation stages, and the stress-induced anisotropy formed in the previous liquefaction stage;and(3)The liquefaction resistance and the shear wave velocity of the undisturbed specimens, which were measured in the firstto third stages, were larger than those of the reconstituted ones due to the aging effects, respectively. That is,the aging effects may not necessarily be eliminated by the subsequent liquefaction history and may remain partially in some cases. 展开更多

The dissolution of iron from the cathode and electrode/electrolyte interface(EEI)during long cycles significantly accelerates the aging process of LiFePO_(4)(LFP)/graphite batteries;there is a lack of systematic understanding of the spatial distribution of the EEI interface layer and the dissolve of Fe ions, especially in terms of the mechanism of the cathode-electrolyte interphase(CEI),solid electrolyte interphase(SEI),and iron dissolution. In this study, aged cells were subjected to continuous activation with constant current and multi-step segmented indirect activation(IA)and analyzed for capacity fade, impedance growth, and active Li^(+)mass loss at the EEI and nanoscale levels. The interaction between dissolved Fe^(2+)and the EEI in LFP/graphite pouch batteries was proposed and verified. The findings indicate that during IA process, the electric field facilitates the migration of solvated ions toward the electrodes, while simultaneously inhibiting the formation of organic species such as ROCO_(2)Li.The SEI primarily consists of a mixture of organic and inorganic small molecules, forming a continuous and uniform film on the electrode surface. This study demonstrates that IA favors the formation of a uniform EEI and offers constructive insights for advancing accelerated lifetime prediction strategies in lithium-ion batteries. 展开更多

The creep response, mechanical properties, and microstructure evolution of the Al−Zn−Mg−Cu alloy were investigated under different initial heat treatment conditions. The results indicate that the density of geometrically necessary dislocations(GNDs)increases during the initial creep stage(<0.5 h)and undergoes dynamic changes in the stable creep stage.During creep aging, the dislocation distribution within the grains becomes more uniform, and additional subgrains are formed. The key factors influencing creep behavior are crystal orientation and the degree of initial precipitation.Grains oriented in the<001>and<101>directions are more susceptible to deformation during the creep process.Based on a strength model, the inhibitory effects of the η'phase in T6 specimens and the GP I zone in T4 specimens on dislocation motion were evaluated. This study demonstrates that selecting an appropriate initial precipitation state is an effective strategy to enhance the creep aging response and to produce high-performance components. 展开更多

Alzheimer’s disease is initially thought to be caused by age-associated accumulation of plaques,in recent years, research has increasingly associated Alzheimer’s disease with lysosomal storage and metabolic disorders, and the explanation of its pathogenesis has shifted from amyloid and tau accumulation to oxidative stress and impaired lipid and glucose metabolism aggravated by hypoxic conditions. However, the underlying mechanisms linking those cellular processes and conditions to disease progression have yet to be defined. Here,we applied a disease similarity approach to identify unknown molecular targets of Alzheimer’s disease by using transcriptomic data from congenital diseases known to increase Alzheimer’s disease risk, namely Down syndrome,Niemann-Pick type C disease, and mucopolysaccharidoses I.We uncovered common pathways, hub genes, and miRNAs across in vitro and in vivo models of these diseases as potential molecular targets for neuroprotection and amelioration of Alzheimer’s disease pathology, many of which have never been associated with Alzheimer’s disease. We then investigated common molecular alterations in brain samples from a Niemann-Pick type C disease mouse model by juxtaposing them with brain samples of both human and mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease.Detailed phenotypic, molecular, chronological, and biological aging analyses revealed that the Npc1tm(I1061T)Dso mouse model can serve as a potential short-lived in vivo model for brain aging and Alzheimer’s disease research. This research represents the first comprehensive approach to congenital disease association with neurodegeneration and a new perspective on Alzheimer’s disease research while highlighting shortcomings and lack of correlation in diverse in vitro models.Considering the lack of an Alzheimer’s disease mouse model that recapitulates the physiological hallmarks of brain aging, the short-lived Npc1^(tm(I1061T)Dso) mouse model can further accelerate the research in these fields and offer a unique model for understanding the molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease from a perspective of accelerated brain aging. 展开更多
