We improved the thermal equivalent-circuit model of the laser diode module(LDM) to evaluate its thermal dynamic properties and calculate the junction temperature of the laser diode with a high accuracy. The thermal parameters and the transient junction temperature of the LDM are modeled and obtained according to the temperature of the thermistor integrated in the module. Our improved thermal model is verified indirectly by monitoring the emission wavelength of the laser diode against gas absorption lines, and several thermal parameters are obtained with the temperature uncertainty of 0.01 K in the thermal dynamic process. 展开更多

The purpose of this research is to develop a SolidWorks? model for transient temperature field of laser welding of PMMA/SS 304 materials for application in fabrication of the ultrasonic back-plate, with a view of optimizing the experimental conditions. The study is carried out on these materials because of the increasing application of both metals and non-metals. The work focuses specifically on these materials because they have been experimentally studied previously and as such, this study can be accepted as an assessment into feasibility of using SolidWorks? model to study the temperature field of the laser welding processes of metals and non-metals. The results of the SolidWorks? transient thermal model show that there is a concentration of high temperatures at the point of contact. It also shows that temperature decreases as we move in (between laser and the top face) to the thickness of the part. Additionally the maximum temperature occurs at the last point of the welding;this may be due to the accumulation of the temperature before arriving at the end. These findings are comparable to the previous simulated and experimental results on temperature field during laser welding of PMMA/SS 304 materials. However, SolidWorks? is shown to present a challenge in modeling a moving source of laser power. 展开更多

A single concentrator solar cell model with a heat sink is established to simulate the thermal performance of the system by varying the number, height, and thickness of fins, the base thickness and thermal resistance of the thermal conductive adhesive. Influence disciplines of those parameters on temperatures of the solar cell and heat sink are obtained. With optimized number, height and thickness of fins, and the thickness values of base of 8, 1.4 cm, 1.5 mm, and 2 mm, the lowest temperatures of the solar cell and heat sink are 41.7 ~C and 36.3 ~C respectively. A concentrator solar cell prototype with a heat sink fabricated based on the simulation optimized structure is built. Outdoor temperatures of the prototype are tested. Temperatures of the solar cell and heat sink are stabilized with time continuing at about 37 ℃-38 ℃ and 35 ℃-36 ℃respectively, slightly lower than the simulation results because of effects of the wind and cloud. Thus the simulation model enables to predict the thermal performance of the system, and the simulation results can be a reference for designing heat sinks in the field of single concentrator solar cells. 展开更多

The Electro–Hydrostatic Actuator(EHA)is applied to drive the control surface in flightcontrol system of more electric aircraft. In EHA,the Oil-Immersed Motor Pump(OMP)serves asthe core as a power assembly. However, the compact integration of the OMP presents challenges inefficiently dissipating internal heat, leading to a performance degradation of the EHA due to ele-vated temperatures. Therefore, accurately modeling and predicting the internal thermal dynamicsof the OMP hold considerable significance for monitoring the operational condition of the EHA.In view of this,a modeling method considering cumulative thermal coupling was hereby proposed.Based on the proposed method, the thermal models of the motor and the pump were established, taking into account heat accumulation and transfer.Taking the leakage oil as the heat couplingpoint between the motor and the pump, the dynamic thermal coupling model of the OMP wasdeveloped, with the thermal characteristics of the oil considered.Additionally, the comparativeexperiments were conducted to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed model. The experimentalresults demonstrate that the proposed dynamic thermal coupling model accurately captured thethermal behavior of OMP,outperforming the static thermal parameter model.Overall, thisadvancement is crucial for effectively monitoring the health of EHA and ensuring flight safety. 展开更多

This paper presents a high-fidelity lumpedparameter(LP)thermal model(HF-LPTM)for permanent magnet synchronous machines(PMSMs)in electric vehicle(EV)applications, where various cooling techniques are considered, including frame forced air/liquid cooling, oil jet cooling for endwinding, and rotor shaft cooling. To address the temperature misestimation in the LP thermal modelling due to assumptions of concentrated loss input and uniform heat flows, the developed HF-LPTM introduces two compensation thermal resistances for the winding and PM components, which are analytically derived from the multi-dimensional heat transfer equations and are robust against different load/thermal conditions. As validated by the finite element analysis method and experiments, the conventional LPTMs exhibit significant winding temperature deviations, while the proposed HF-LPTM can accurately predict both the midpoint and average temperatures. The developed HFLPTM is further used to assess the effectiveness of various cooling techniques under different scenarios,i.e.,steady-state thermal states under the rated load condition, and transient temperature profiles under city, freeway, and hybrid(city+freeway)driving cycles. Results indicate that no single cooling technique can maintain both winding and PM temperatures within safety limits. The combination of frame liquid cooling and oil jet cooling for end winding can sufficiently mitigate PMSM thermal stress in EV applications. 展开更多

The Infrared Hyperspectral Atmospheric SounderⅡ(HIRAS-Ⅱ)is the key equipment on FengYun-3E(FY-3E)satellite,which can realize vertical atmospheric detection, featuring hyper spectral, high sensitivity and high precision. To ensure its accuracy of detection,it is necessary to correlate their thermal models to in-orbit da⁃ta.In this work,an investigation of intelligent correlation method named Intelligent Correlation Platform for Ther⁃mal Model(ICP-TM)was established, the advanced Kriging surrogate model and efficient adaptive region opti⁃mization algorithm were introduced. After the correlation with this method for FY-3E/HIRAS-Ⅱ,the results indi⁃cate that compared with the data in orbit, the error of the thermal model has decreased from 5 K to within±1 K in cold case(10℃).Then,the correlated model is validated in hot case(20℃),and the correlated model exhibits good universality. This correlation precision is also much superiors to the general ones like 3 K in other similar lit⁃erature.Furthermore, the process is finished in 8 days using ICP-TM,the efficiency is much better than 3 months based on manual. The results show that the proposed approach significantly enhances the accuracy and efficiency of thermal model, this contributes to the precise thermal control of subsequent infrared optical payloads. 展开更多

To evaluate the thermal behavior of tunnels,an equivalent thermal conductivity(ETC)model for the fractured rock masses surrounding tunnels was proposed, based on the series-parallel theory, which incorporates the heat transfer characteristics of the surrounding rock.A thermal probe test(TPT)was subsequently conducted at the Dajian Mountain Tunnel(China),and the heat transfer model of the thermal probe was developed and calibrated based on the TPT results. The ETCs of different test areas in the borehole were calculated based on the fracture parameters(dip direction, dip angle, opening, trace length),obtained via a digital borehole photography test. Finally, the new ETC model, the volumeaveraged model, and the non-fracture model were compared for accuracy in heat transfer calculation. The results demonstrate that(1)the error of heat transfer calculation error was reduced by 17.2%e69.2%using the new ETC model.(2)For the ETCs of different thermal response test areas, the minimum and maximum values were 2.15 W/(m K)and 3.7 W/(m K),respectively, with the fracture effect causing up to a 41.2%reduction in thermal conductivity.(3)For the ETC of the borehole, the ETC value was 2.53 W/(m K),with the fracture effect leading to a 31.6%reduction in thermal conductivity. The effect of fractures on the thermal conductivity of rock mass could not be ignored. This ETC model addresses the challenge of determining the ETC for the heterogeneous surrounding rock of tunnels and provides a more accurate representation of the in situ thermal behavior of tunnels. 展开更多

This study proposes a general imperfect thermal contact model to predict the thermal contact resistance at the interface among multi-layered composite structures.Based on the Green-Lindsay(GL)thermoelastic theory, semi analytical solutions of temperature increment and displacement of multi-layered composite structures are obtained by using the Laplace transform method, upon which the effects of thermal resistance coefficient, partition coefficient, thermal conductivity ratio and heat capacity ratio on the responses are studied. The results show that the generalized imperfect thermal contact model can realistically describe the imperfect thermal contact problem.Accordingly,it may degenerate into other thermal contact models by adjusting the thermal resistance coefficient and partition coefficient. 展开更多

Liquid metal-based microchannel heat sinks (MCHSs) suffer from the low heat capacity of coolant, resulting in an excessive temperature rise of coolant and heat sink when dealing with high-power heat dissipation. In this paper, it was found that expanded space at the top of fins could distribute the heat inside microchannels, reducing the temperature rise of coolant and heat sink. The orthogonal experiments revealed that expanding the top space of channels yielded similar temperature reductions to changing the channel width. The flow and thermal modeling of expanded microchannel heat sink (E-MCHS) were analyzed by both using the 3-dimensional (3D) numerical simulation and the 1-dimensional (1D) thermal resistance model. The fin efficiency of E-MCHS was derived to improve the accuracy of the 1D thermal resistance model. The heat conduction of liquid metal in Z direction and the heat convection between the top surface of fins and the liquid metal could reduce the total thermal resistance (Rt). The above process was effective for microchannels with low channel aspect ratio, low mean velocity (Um) or long heat sink length. The maximum thermal resistance reduction in the example of this paper reached 36.0%. The expanded space endowed the heat sink with lower pressure, which might further reduce the pumping power (P). This rule was feasible both when fins were truncated (h_(2) < 0, h_(2) is the height of expanded channel for E-MCHS) and when over plate was raised (h_(2) > 0). 展开更多

Aiming at the problem of low machining accu- racy and uncontrollable thermal errors of NC machine tools, spindle thermal error measurement, modeling and compensation of a two turntable five-axis machine tool are researched. Measurement experiment of heat sources and thermal errors are carried out, and GRA(grey relational analysis) method is introduced into the selection of tem- perature variables used for thermal error modeling. In order to analyze the influence of different heat sources on spindle thermal errors, an ANN (artificial neural network) model is presented, and ABC(artificial bee colony) algorithm is introduced to train the link weights of ANN, a new ABC- NN(Artificial bee colony-based neural network) modeling method is proposed and used in the prediction of spindle thermal errors. In order to test the prediction performance of ABC-NN model, an experiment system is developed, the prediction results of LSR (least squares regression), ANN and ABC-NN are compared with the measurement results of spindle thermal errors. Experiment results show that the prediction accuracy of ABC-NN model is higher than LSR and ANN, and the residual error is smaller than 3 pm, the new modeling method is feasible. The proposed research provides instruction to compensate thermal errors and improve machining accuracy of NC machine tools. 展开更多

The interaction between the heat source location, its intensity, thermal expansion coefficient, the machine system configuration and the running environment creates complex thermal behavior of a machine tool, and also makes thermal error prediction difficult. To address this issue, a novel prediction method for machine tool thermal error based on Bayesian networks (BNs) was presented. The method described causal relationships of factors inducing thermal deformation by graph theory and estimated the thermal error by Bayesian statistical techniques. Due to the effective combination of domain knowledge and sampled data, the BN method could adapt to the change of running state of machine, and obtain satisfactory prediction accuracy. Ex- periments on spindle thermal deformation were conducted to evaluate the modeling performance. Experimental results indicate that the BN method performs far better than the least squares (LS) analysis in terms of modeling estimation accuracy. 展开更多

Thermal maturation and petroleum generation modeling of shales is essential for suc- cessful exploration and exploitation of conventional and unconventional oil and gas plays. For basin- wide unconventional resource plays such modeling, when well calibrated with direct maturity meas- urements from wells, can characterize and locate production sweet spots for oil, wet gas and dry gas. The transformation of kerogen to petroleum is associated with many chemical reactions, but models typically focus on first-order reactions with rates determined by the Arrhenius Equation. A miscon- ception has been perpetuated for many years that accurate thermal maturity modeling of vitrinite re- flectance using the Arrhenius Equation and a single activation energy, to derive a time-temperature index (~TTIARa), as proposed by Wood (1988), is flawed. This claim was initially made by Sweeney and Burnham (1990) in promoting their "EasyRo" method, and repeated by others. This paper dem- onstrates through detailed multi-dimensional burial and thermal modeling and direct comparison of the ~TTIARR and "EasyRo" methods that this is not the case. The ~TTIA^R method not only provides a very useful and sensitive maturity index, it can reproduce the calculated vitrinite reflectance values derived from models based on multiple activation energies (e.g., "EasyRo"). Through simple expres- sions the ~TTIAaa method can also provide oil and gas transformation factors that can be flexibly scaled and calibrated to match the oil, wet gas and dry gas generation windows. This is achieved in a more-computationally-efficient, flexible and transparent way by the ~TTIARR method than the "EasyRo" method. Analysis indicates that the "EasyRo" method, using twenty activation energies and a constant frequency factor, generates reaction rates and transformation factors that do not realisti- cally model observed kerogen behaviour and transformation factors over geologic time scales. 展开更多

The heat How generated from the infinite rock mass surrounding the underground tunnels is a major cause for the increasing cooling demands in deep mine tunnels.Insulation layers with lower thermal conductivities on tunnel walls and roof ceilings are believed to supply a thermo-barrier for heat abatement. However,it is found that no systematic theoretical investigations were made to predict and confirm the effectiveness of underground thermal insulation.Specifically, investigations on the underground insulation problems involving heat flows through the semi-infinite hot rock mass and insulation layer were not sufficient. Thus,in this paper, the thermal characteristics, accompanied with heat flow through the semi-infinite rock mass and the insulation layer, were modeled by both analytical and numerical methods with focus on underground mine tunnels. The close agreements between models have indicated that the thermal insulation applied on tunnel surfaces is able to provide promising heat abatement effects. 展开更多

The nano particles have demonstrated great potential to improve the heat transfer characteristics of heat transfer fluids.Possible parameters responsible for this increase were studied. The heat transfer profile in the nanolayer region was combined with other parameters such as volume fraction, particle radius thermal conductivity of the fluid, particle and nanolayer, to formulate a thermal conductivity model. Results predicting the thermal conductivity of nanofluids using the model were compared with experimental results as well as studies by other researchers. The comparison of the results obtained for the Cu O/water and Ti O2/water nanofluids studied shows that the correlation proposed is in closest proximity in predicting the experimental results for the thermal conductivity of a nanofluid. Also, a parametric study was performed to understand how a number of factors affect the thermal conductivity of nanofluids using the developed correlation. 展开更多

A numerical simulation was performed to study the flow pattern, mixing time and open-eye slag produced by argon gas injection in an industrial scale steel ladle under non-isothermal conditions. The liquid steel remains 5min before the injection, and thermal stratification and convective flows were analyzed.Three different sequences in stages employing various argon-gas flow rates were simulated. In the first case,a sequence with the highest flow rates of argon was applied, while in the second and the third sequences, the intermediate and the lowest flow rates of argon gas were used, respectively. For determining the chemistry homogenization, the mixing time was computed and analyzed in all three cases. It was found that the cold steel is located near the walls while the steel with a high temperature is accumulated in the center of the ladle above the argon-gas tuyere. The higher and lower flows promote a faster chemistry homogenization owing to the secondary recirculations that are developed closer to the walls. The results from steel temperature drop show a good concordance with plant trial measurements. 展开更多

The study of Electromagnetic Compatibility is essential to ensure the harmonious operation of electronic equipment in a shared environment. The basic principles of Electromagnetic Compatibility focus on the ability of devices to withstand electromagnetic disturbances and not produce disturbances that could affect other systems. Imperceptible in most work situations, electromagnetic fields can, beyond certain thresholds, have effects on human health. The objective of the present article is focused on the modeling analysis of the influence of geometric parameters of industrial static converters radiated electromagnetic fields using Maxwell’s equations. To do this we used the analytical formalism for calculating the electromagnetic field emitted by a filiform conductor, to model the electromagnetic radiation of this device in the spatio-temporal domain. The interactions of electromagnetic waves with human bodies are complex and depend on several factors linked to the characteristics of the incident wave. To model these interactions, we implemented the physical laws of electromagnetic wave propagation based on Maxwell’s and bio-heat equations to obtain consistent results. These obtained models allowed us to evaluate the spatial profile of induced current and temperature of biological tissue during exposure to electromagnetic waves generated by this system. The simulation 2D results obtained from computer tools show that the temperature variation and current induced by the electromagnetic field can have a very significant influence on the life of biological tissue. The paper provides a comprehensive analysis using advanced mathematical models to evaluate the influence of electromagnetic fields. The findings have direct implications for workplace safety, potentially influencing standards and regulations concerning electromagnetic exposure in industrial settings. 展开更多

Compressed earth blocks (CEB) are an alternative to cement blocks in the construction of wall masonry. However, the optimal architectural construction methods for adequate thermal comfort for occupants in hot and arid environments are not mastered. This article evaluates the influence of architectural and constructive modes of buildings made of CEB walls and concrete block walls, to optimize and compare their thermal comfort in the hot and dry tropical climate of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Two identical pilot buildings whose envelopes are made of CEB and concrete blocks were monitored for this study. The thermal models of the pilot buildings were implemented in the SketchUp software using an extension of EnergyPlus. The models were empirically validated after calibration against measured thermal data from the buildings. The models were used to do a parametric analysis for optimization of the thermal performances by simulating plaster coatings on the exterior of walls, airtight openings and natural ventilation depending on external weather conditions. The results show that the CEB building displays 7016 hours of discomfort, equivalent to 80.1% of the time, and the concrete building displays 6948 hours of discomfort, equivalent to 79.3% of the time. The optimization by modifications reduced the discomfort to 2918 and 3125 hours respectively;i.e. equivalent to only 33.3% for the CEB building and 35.7% for the concrete building. More study should evaluate thermal optimizations in buildings in real time of usage such as residential buildings commonly used by the local middle class. The use of CEB as a construction material and passive means of improving thermal comfort is a suitable ecological and economical option to replace cementitious material. 展开更多

With the continuous upgrading of traditional manufacturing industries and the rapid rise of emerging technology fields, the performance requirements for the permanent magnet synchronous motors(PMSMs)have become higher and higher. The importance of fast and accurate electromagnetic thermal coupling analysis of such motors becomes more and more prominent. In view of this, the surfacemounted PMSM(SPMSM)equipped with unequally thick magnetic poles is taken as the main object and its electromagnetic thermal coupling analytical model(ETc AM)is investigated.First, the electromagnetic analytical model(EAM)is studied based on the modified subdomain method. It realizes the fast calculation of key electromagnetic characteristics.Subsequently, the 3D thermal analytical model(TAM)is developed by combining the EAM,the lumped parameter thermal network method(LPTNM),and the partial differential equation of heat flux.It realizes the fast calculation of key thermal characteristics in 3D space.Further, the information transfer channel between EAM and TAM is built with reference to the intrinsic connection between electromagnetic field and temperature field.Thereby, the novel ETcAM is proposed to realize the fast and accurate prediction of electromagnetic and temperature fields.Besides,ETcAM has a lot to commend it.One is that it well accounts for the complex structure, saturation, and heat exchange behavior.Second,it saves a lot of computer resources. It offers boundless possibilities for initial design, scheme evaluation, and optimization of motors. Finally, the validity, accuracy, and practicality of this study are verified by simulation and experiment. 展开更多
