As the world is garnering attention towards renewable resources for environmental purposes, studies of natural fibre have been increasing as well as the application of natural fibre throughout various industries such as aerospace, automobiles, and construction sectors. This paper is started with brief information regarding the honeycomb sandwich structure, introduction to natural fibre, its applications as well as the factors affecting the performances of the structure. Next, the mechanical testing methods are listed out as well as the expected outcomes obtained from the respective testing. The mechanical properties are also identified by conducting lab tests according to the ASTM standard for sandwich and core structures. The microstructure of the deformed samples is then examined under Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) by using different magnifications to study the failure mechanisms of the samples. The images obtained from the SEM test are analyzed by using fractography which will show the failure modes of the samples. The uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)of rocks is a vital geomechanical parameter widely used for rock mass classification,stability analysis,and engineering design in rock engineering.Various UCS testing methods and ...The uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)of rocks is a vital geomechanical parameter widely used for rock mass classification,stability analysis,and engineering design in rock engineering.Various UCS testing methods and apparatuses have been proposed over the past few decades.The objective of the present study is to summarize the status and development in theories,test apparatuses,data processing of the existing testing methods for UCS measurement.It starts with elaborating the theories of these test methods.Then the test apparatus and development trends for UCS measurement are summarized,followed by a discussion on rock specimens for test apparatus,and data processing methods.Next,the method selection for UCS measurement is recommended.It reveals that the rock failure mechanism in the UCS testing methods can be divided into compression-shear,compression-tension,composite failure mode,and no obvious failure mode.The trends of these apparatuses are towards automation,digitization,precision,and multi-modal test.Two size correction methods are commonly used.One is to develop empirical correlation between the measured indices and the specimen size.The other is to use a standard specimen to calculate the size correction factor.Three to five input parameters are commonly utilized in soft computation models to predict the UCS of rocks.The selection of the test methods for the UCS measurement can be carried out according to the testing scenario and the specimen size.The engineers can gain a comprehensive understanding of the UCS testing methods and its potential developments in various rock engineering endeavors.展开更多

The rock mass consists of rock blocks and structural planes,which can reduce its integrity and strength.Therefore,accurately obtaining the characteristics of the rock mass structural plane is a prerequisite for evalua...The rock mass consists of rock blocks and structural planes,which can reduce its integrity and strength.Therefore,accurately obtaining the characteristics of the rock mass structural plane is a prerequisite for evaluating stability and designing supports in underground engineering.Currently,there are no effective testing methods for the characteristic parameters of the rock mass structural plane in underground engineering.The paper presents the digital drilling technology as a new testing method of rock mass structural planes.Flawed rock specimens with cracks of varying widths and angles were used to simulate the rock mass structural planes,and the multifunctional rock mass digital drilling test system was employed to carry out the digital drilling tests.The analysis focuses on the variation laws of drilling parameters,such as drilling pressure and drilling torque,affected by the characteristics of prefabricated cracks,and clarifies the degradation mechanism of rock equivalent compressive strength.Additionally,an identification model for the characteristic parameters of rock mass structural planes during drilling is established.The test results indicate that the average difference of the characteristics of prefabricated cracks identified by the equivalent compressive strength is 2.45°and 0.82 mm,respectively.The identification model while drilling is verified to be correct due to the high identification accuracy.Based on this,a method for testing the characteristic parameters of the surrounding rock structural plane while drilling is proposed.The research offers a theoretical and methodological foundation for precise in situ identification of structural planes of the surrounding rock in underground engineering.展开更多

To address the challenges of poor surface quality and high energy consumption in marble cutting,this study introduces an auxiliary abrasive jet cutting technology enhanced by the use of polyacrylamide(PAM)as a dragred...To address the challenges of poor surface quality and high energy consumption in marble cutting,this study introduces an auxiliary abrasive jet cutting technology enhanced by the use of polyacrylamide(PAM)as a dragreducing additive.The effects of feed rate(50-300 mm/min),polymer concentration(0-0.5 g/L),and nozzle spacing(4-12 mm)on kerf width and surface roughness are systematically investigated through an orthogonal experimental design.Results reveal that feed rate emerges as themost significant factor(p<0.01),followed by PAM concentration and nozzle spacing.The optimal set of parameters,comprising a 200 mm/min feed rate,0.3 g/L PAM concentration,and 6mmnozzle spacing,achieves the narrowest kerf width(0.867 mm)and the lowest surface roughness(10.220μm).Analysis of the underlying mechanisms demonstrates that PAMenhances the energy efficiency of the jet by suppressing turbulent pulsations and increasing fluid viscoelasticity,thereby minimizing energy loss during the cutting process.展开更多
The serpentine convergent-divergent nozzle represents an optimal configuration for nextgeneration fighter aircraft characterized by low detectability and high thrust-to-weight ratio.In contrast to the serpentine conve...The serpentine convergent-divergent nozzle represents an optimal configuration for nextgeneration fighter aircraft characterized by low detectability and high thrust-to-weight ratio.In contrast to the serpentine convergent nozzle,such configuration offers increased design flexibility with additional parameters,leading to heightened interactions among these parameters.As such,it is crucial to reveal the influence of design parameters on the aerodynamic performance of the serpentine convergent-divergent nozzle and the multifactor interaction,as well as its mechanism.Therefore,the influence,interaction and sensitivity of parameters on the aerodynamic performance of the nozzle were numerically investigated using the orthogonal test method.Additionally,the influence mechanism of the convergence angle,throat aspect ratio,and axial length to inlet diameter on the flow characteristics of the nozzle was investigated in detail.The results show that the convergence angle is identified as the main factor affecting the aerodynamic parameters of the nozzle.As the convergence angle increases,the thrust coefficient,total pressure recovery coefficient and discharge coefficient gradually decrease.The interaction between throat aspect ratio and other parameters is obvious.Different design parameters affect the local loss and the friction loss by affecting the curvature and wetted perimeter area,resulting in different aerodynamic characteristics of serpentine convergent-divergent nozzle.展开更多

Motor vehicles are important sources of atmospheric I...Previous studies have demonstrated that intermediate-volatility and semivolatile organic compounds(I/SVOCs) are important precursors of secondary organic aerosols. Motor vehicles are important sources of atmospheric I/SVOC emissions. In this paper, existing test methods for motor vehicle I/SVOCs are summarized, the advantages and disadvantages of various sampling methods and analytical techniques are compared, and the main factors influencing motor vehicle I/SVOC emissions are analyzed. The results show that the onboard test method compensates for the shortcomings of the bench test method, reflects the emission characteristics of I/SVOCs on actual roads, and has great application potential. The identification capability of traditional gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for I/SVOCs is very limited, whereas the high sensitivity and species identification capability of comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography provide obvious advantages in the study of I/SVOC samples. Motor vehicle I/SVOC emissions are influenced by many factors. The individual and combined effects of different factors remain uncertain, so the importance of control variables must be more notably emphasized in future studies of influencing factors. In this paper, a systematic review is offered that could serve as a valuable reference for future research on motor vehicle I/SVOC emissions and contribute to mitigating fine particulate matter pollution.展开更多
A dimensionless load-displacement model based on the energy-density equivalence principle is proposed to obtain the stress-strain relationships of metallic materials under monotonic indentations with various diameters...A dimensionless load-displacement model based on the energy-density equivalence principle is proposed to obtain the stress-strain relationships of metallic materials under monotonic indentations with various diameters of spherical indenters.Finite element simulations are carried out to verify the constitutive relations from the new model,involving indentations made with various spherical indenters.For each indenter,some quasi-static spherical indentation tests are conducted on the materials with 40 preset constitutive relationships.The results indicate that the stress-strain curves predicted by the model align with the preset curves under 200 loading conditions.Moreover,the goodness-of-fit between the predicted stress-strain curves and the preset curves exceeds0.96 for all indenters and materials.In the end,the indentation tests are conducted by the spherical indenters with the diameters of 1.587 mm for fifteen metallic materials and1 mm for eight metallic materials.The results show that the stress-strain curves obtained by the spherical indentation based on the new model closely match those obtained from the uniaxial tensile tests.The relative errors for both the proof strength at 0.2%plastic extension and the tensile strength are below 5%.展开更多

It is assumed thatthe specimen is diametrically compressed by elliptic normal contact stresses. The frictional contactstresses between the specimen and platens are neglected. The analytical solution starts from the contactproblem of the loading jaws of any curvature and cylindrical specimen. The contact width, correspondingloading angle (2 ^0), and elliptical stresses obtained through solution of the contact problems are used asboundary conditions for a cylindrical specimen. The problem of the theory of elasticity for a cylinder issolved using Muskhelishvili's method. In this method, the displacements and stresses are represented interms of two analytical functions of a complex variable. In the main approaches, the nonlinear interactionbetween the loading bearing blocks and the specimen as well as the curvature of their surfacesand the elastic parameters of their materials are taken into account. Numerical examples are solved usingMATLAB to demonstrate the influence of deformability, curvature of the specimen and platens on thedistribution of the normal contact stresses as well as on the tensile and compressive stresses actingacross the loaded diameter. Derived equations also allow calculating the modulus of elasticity, totaldeformation modulus and creep parameters of the specimen material based on the experimental data ofradial contraction of the specimen.展开更多

For a homogeneous,continuous,and isotropic material whose constitutive relationships meets with the Ramberg-Osgood law(R-O law),the energy in the elastoplastic indentation with a ball indenter was theoretically analyz...For a homogeneous,continuous,and isotropic material whose constitutive relationships meets with the Ramberg-Osgood law(R-O law),the energy in the elastoplastic indentation with a ball indenter was theoretically analyzed,and the proportional superposition of energy in pure elasticity and pure plasticity during indentation was considered based on the equivalence of energy density.Subsequently,a Proportional Superposition-based Elasto Plastic Model(PS-EPM)was developed to describe the relationships between the displacement and the load during the ball indentation.Furthermore,a new test method of Ball Indentation based on Elastoplastic Proportional Superposition(BI-EPS)was developed to obtain the constitutive relationships of R-O law materials.The load–displacement curves predicted using the PS-EPM model were found to agree closely with the Finite Element Analysis(FEA)results.Moreover,the stress vs.strain curves predicted using the BI-EPS method were in better agreement with those obtained by FEA.Additionally,ball indentation was performed on eleven types of metal materials including five types of aluminum alloys and six types of steel.The test results showed that the stress vs.strain relationships and the tensile strength values predicted using the proposed BI-EPS method agreed well with the results obtained using conventional uniaxial tensile tests.展开更多

Indirect test methods are simple, more economical, less time-consuming, and easily adaptable to the field. The main aim of this study was to derive correlations between direct and indirect test methods for basalt and rhyolite rock types from Carlin trend deposits in Nevada. In the destructive methods, point load index, block punch index, and splitting tensile strength tests are performed. In the non-destructive methods, Schmidt hammer and ultrasonic pulse velocity tests are performed. Correlations between the direct and indirect compression strength tests are developed using linear and nonlinear regression analysis methods. The results show that the splitting tensile strength has the best correlation with the uniaxial compression strength.Furthermore, the Poisson's ratio has no correlation with any of the direct and indirect test results.展开更多

文摘To address the challenges of poor surface quality and high energy consumption in marble cutting,this study introduces an auxiliary abrasive jet cutting technology enhanced by the use of polyacrylamide(PAM)as a dragreducing additive.The effects of feed rate(50-300 mm/min),polymer concentration(0-0.5 g/L),and nozzle spacing(4-12 mm)on kerf width and surface roughness are systematically investigated through an orthogonal experimental design.Results reveal that feed rate emerges as themost significant factor(p<0.01),followed by PAM concentration and nozzle spacing.The optimal set of parameters,comprising a 200 mm/min feed rate,0.3 g/L PAM concentration,and 6mmnozzle spacing,achieves the narrowest kerf width(0.867 mm)and the lowest surface roughness(10.220μm).Analysis of the underlying mechanisms demonstrates that PAMenhances the energy efficiency of the jet by suppressing turbulent pulsations and increasing fluid viscoelasticity,thereby minimizing energy loss during the cutting process.

文摘The serpentine convergent-divergent nozzle represents an optimal configuration for nextgeneration fighter aircraft characterized by low detectability and high thrust-to-weight ratio.In contrast to the serpentine convergent nozzle,such configuration offers increased design flexibility with additional parameters,leading to heightened interactions among these parameters.As such,it is crucial to reveal the influence of design parameters on the aerodynamic performance of the serpentine convergent-divergent nozzle and the multifactor interaction,as well as its mechanism.Therefore,the influence,interaction and sensitivity of parameters on the aerodynamic performance of the nozzle were numerically investigated using the orthogonal test method.Additionally,the influence mechanism of the convergence angle,throat aspect ratio,and axial length to inlet diameter on the flow characteristics of the nozzle was investigated in detail.The results show that the convergence angle is identified as the main factor affecting the aerodynamic parameters of the nozzle.As the convergence angle increases,the thrust coefficient,total pressure recovery coefficient and discharge coefficient gradually decrease.The interaction between throat aspect ratio and other parameters is obvious.Different design parameters affect the local loss and the friction loss by affecting the curvature and wetted perimeter area,resulting in different aerodynamic characteristics of serpentine convergent-divergent nozzle.

文摘Previous studies have demonstrated that intermediate-volatility and semivolatile organic compounds(I/SVOCs) are important precursors of secondary organic aerosols. Motor vehicles are important sources of atmospheric I/SVOC emissions. In this paper, existing test methods for motor vehicle I/SVOCs are summarized, the advantages and disadvantages of various sampling methods and analytical techniques are compared, and the main factors influencing motor vehicle I/SVOC emissions are analyzed. The results show that the onboard test method compensates for the shortcomings of the bench test method, reflects the emission characteristics of I/SVOCs on actual roads, and has great application potential. The identification capability of traditional gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for I/SVOCs is very limited, whereas the high sensitivity and species identification capability of comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography provide obvious advantages in the study of I/SVOC samples. Motor vehicle I/SVOC emissions are influenced by many factors. The individual and combined effects of different factors remain uncertain, so the importance of control variables must be more notably emphasized in future studies of influencing factors. In this paper, a systematic review is offered that could serve as a valuable reference for future research on motor vehicle I/SVOC emissions and contribute to mitigating fine particulate matter pollution.

文摘A dimensionless load-displacement model based on the energy-density equivalence principle is proposed to obtain the stress-strain relationships of metallic materials under monotonic indentations with various diameters of spherical indenters.Finite element simulations are carried out to verify the constitutive relations from the new model,involving indentations made with various spherical indenters.For each indenter,some quasi-static spherical indentation tests are conducted on the materials with 40 preset constitutive relationships.The results indicate that the stress-strain curves predicted by the model align with the preset curves under 200 loading conditions.Moreover,the goodness-of-fit between the predicted stress-strain curves and the preset curves exceeds0.96 for all indenters and materials.In the end,the indentation tests are conducted by the spherical indenters with the diameters of 1.587 mm for fifteen metallic materials and1 mm for eight metallic materials.The results show that the stress-strain curves obtained by the spherical indentation based on the new model closely match those obtained from the uniaxial tensile tests.The relative errors for both the proof strength at 0.2%plastic extension and the tensile strength are below 5%.

文摘In this study, the interaction between cylindrical specimen made ofhomogeneous, isotropic, and linearlyelastic material and loading jaws of any curvature is considered in the Brazilian test. It is assumed thatthe specimen is diametrically compressed by elliptic normal contact stresses. The frictional contactstresses between the specimen and platens are neglected. The analytical solution starts from the contactproblem of the loading jaws of any curvature and cylindrical specimen. The contact width, correspondingloading angle (2 ^0), and elliptical stresses obtained through solution of the contact problems are used asboundary conditions for a cylindrical specimen. The problem of the theory of elasticity for a cylinder issolved using Muskhelishvili's method. In this method, the displacements and stresses are represented interms of two analytical functions of a complex variable. In the main approaches, the nonlinear interactionbetween the loading bearing blocks and the specimen as well as the curvature of their surfacesand the elastic parameters of their materials are taken into account. Numerical examples are solved usingMATLAB to demonstrate the influence of deformability, curvature of the specimen and platens on thedistribution of the normal contact stresses as well as on the tensile and compressive stresses actingacross the loaded diameter. Derived equations also allow calculating the modulus of elasticity, totaldeformation modulus and creep parameters of the specimen material based on the experimental data ofradial contraction of the specimen.

文摘Due to local uneven heating during the welding process,the residual stress of the structure after welding affects the reliability of it.In order to ensure the reliability,it is of great significance to test the residual stress distribution of the welded joint.It has always been the focus to find a simple and feasible method for residual stress testing to quickly and accurately obtain the residual stress distribution of welded joints.The mechanical measurement method has high measurement accuracy,convenient and easy operation,but it will cause certain damage to the components.Physical measurement method can avoid damage to components,but its test cost is usually high,and its measurement accuracy can also be affected by the material microstructure characteristics of welded components.Based on the advantages and disadvantages of these two residual stress test methods,a modal test method is proposed.This method is a non-destructive measurement method.Based on the mathematical relationship between the residual stress of the welded structure and the natural frequency(mathematical model),the natural frequency is measured through the modal test to calculate the residual stress quickly.However,it is difficult to establish a mathematical model with this method,and it is not suitable for realization.
文摘Experimental studies on the compressive behavior of composite laminates after low velocity impact was carried out with two test methods.One is SACMA Standard,and the other is a small dimensional specimen test method.Impact damage distributions,compressive failure process after impact,quasi static indentation and compression of laminates with a hole were brought into comparison between these two test methods.The results showed that there is a great difference between these two test methods.Compressive behavior of laminates after impact varies with different test methods.Residual compressive strength of laminates after low velocity impact measured with SACMA Standard can reflect stiffness properties of composite resins more wholely than that measured with the other method can do.Small dimensional specimen test method should be improved on as an experimental standard of compressive strength after impact.

文摘For a homogeneous,continuous,and isotropic material whose constitutive relationships meets with the Ramberg-Osgood law(R-O law),the energy in the elastoplastic indentation with a ball indenter was theoretically analyzed,and the proportional superposition of energy in pure elasticity and pure plasticity during indentation was considered based on the equivalence of energy density.Subsequently,a Proportional Superposition-based Elasto Plastic Model(PS-EPM)was developed to describe the relationships between the displacement and the load during the ball indentation.Furthermore,a new test method of Ball Indentation based on Elastoplastic Proportional Superposition(BI-EPS)was developed to obtain the constitutive relationships of R-O law materials.The load–displacement curves predicted using the PS-EPM model were found to agree closely with the Finite Element Analysis(FEA)results.Moreover,the stress vs.strain curves predicted using the BI-EPS method were in better agreement with those obtained by FEA.Additionally,ball indentation was performed on eleven types of metal materials including five types of aluminum alloys and six types of steel.The test results showed that the stress vs.strain relationships and the tensile strength values predicted using the proposed BI-EPS method agreed well with the results obtained using conventional uniaxial tensile tests.

文摘The difficulties associated with performing direct compression strength tests on rocks lead to the development of indirect test methods for the rock strength assessment. Indirect test methods are simple, more economical, less time-consuming, and easily adaptable to the field. The main aim of this study was to derive correlations between direct and indirect test methods for basalt and rhyolite rock types from Carlin trend deposits in Nevada. In the destructive methods, point load index, block punch index, and splitting tensile strength tests are performed. In the non-destructive methods, Schmidt hammer and ultrasonic pulse velocity tests are performed. Correlations between the direct and indirect compression strength tests are developed using linear and nonlinear regression analysis methods. The results show that the splitting tensile strength has the best correlation with the uniaxial compression strength.Furthermore, the Poisson's ratio has no correlation with any of the direct and indirect test results.

文摘The factors influencing the permeability coefficient of gravelly soils used for the development of embankment dams(core wall)are analyzed.Such factors include(but are not limited to)soil size,anisotropy,density and boundary effects.A review of the literature is conducted and new directions of research are proposed.In such a framework,it is shown that gravelly soil with controlled density and vertical stress should be used to optimize the measurement of the vertical and horizontal permeability coefficients,respectively.
