A new kind of evaluating method of VSR...The effect of vibratory stress relief (VSR) is usually evaluated with the indirect method of observing the change of amplitude frequency response characteristics of structures. A new kind of evaluating method of VSR based on the ultrasonic time-of-arrival method (UTM), which can obtain the residual stress directly through measuring the propagation time of ultrasonic wave in the material, is presented. At first, the principle of the measuring method of residual stress based on UTM is analyzed. Then the measuring system of the method is described, which is in virtue of ultrasonic flaw detector and high-sampling-rate digital oscillograph. And a set of calibration system that contains a piece of standard specimen is also introduced. Experimental results prove the relation between the residual stress and the propagation time of ultrasonic in workpieces. Finally, the measuring and calibration systems are applied in evaluating the effect of VSR. The final test results show that the method is effective.展开更多

A time-of-arrival(TOA) system based on GPS technology for locating VHF radiation sources from lightning has been developed and used in observation sites in the northern Shandong Province,China.The 3D images of the lig...A time-of-arrival(TOA) system based on GPS technology for locating VHF radiation sources from lightning has been developed and used in observation sites in the northern Shandong Province,China.The 3D images of the lightning progression have been obtained successfully for the first time in China.The 3D-channel evolutions of typical negative CG,positive CG and IC lightning flashes have been discussed together with the data of fast electric field change.It was found that significant differences existed between the negative and positive CG lightning flashes in terms of the initiation and propagation of the radiation sources.The preliminary breakdown of a negative CG lightning flash propagated at a speed about 5.2×104 m/s.The stepped leader of negative CG lightning flashes was trigged by negative initial breakdown.Thereafter,it propagated downward at a speed of 1.3×105 m/s.The initial process of the positive CG lightning flashes was also a propagation process of negative streamer.These streamers propagated dominantly horizontally in the positive charge region and accumulated positive charges at the origin of the lightning,and as a consequence,initiated downward positive streamers.A new type of lightning discharge that was triggered by a narrow bipolar pulse(NBP) is discussed in this study.The NBP was originated at altitude of about 10.5 km in the upper positive charge region.As a distinct difference from normal IC flash,its channels extended horizontally all around and produced a lot of radiation sources.The source power of the NBP could approach 16.7 kW,which is much greater than that of normal lightning discharge ranging between 100 mW and 500 W.The 3D propagation of this new type of lightning discharge was observed and obtained for the first time in China.The possible initiation mechanism of this new type of light-ning is discussed here.展开更多
In order to improve the performance of the traditional hybrid time-of-arrival(TOA)/angle-of-arrival(AOA)location algorithm in non-line-of-sight(NLOS)environments,a new hybrid TOA/AOA location estimation algorith...In order to improve the performance of the traditional hybrid time-of-arrival(TOA)/angle-of-arrival(AOA)location algorithm in non-line-of-sight(NLOS)environments,a new hybrid TOA/AOA location estimation algorithm by utilizing scatterer information is proposed.The linearized region of the mobile station(MS)is obtained according to the base station(BS)coordinates and the TOA measurements.The candidate points(CPs)of the MS are generated from this region.Then,using the measured TOA and AOA measurements,the radius of each scatterer is computed.Compared with the prior scatterer information,true CPs are obtained among all the CPs.The adaptive fuzzy clustering(AFC)technology is adopted to estimate the position of the MS with true CPs.Finally,simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of the algorithm.The results demonstrate that the proposed location algorithm can significantly mitigate the NLOS effect and efficiently estimate the MS position.展开更多

In the field of noise identification of underwater moving target, the Doppler will distort the frequency and amplitude of the radiated noise. To eliminate this, the track estimation is necessary. In the DPS method, we first estimate bearings of two sinusoidal pulse sources installed in the moving target through baseline positioning method. Meanwhile, the emitted and recorded time of each pulse are also acquired. Then the linear track parameters will be achieved based on the geometry pattern with the help of double sources spacing. The simulated results confirm that the DPS improves the performance of the previous double source spacing method. The simulated experiments were carried out using a moving battery car to further evaluate its performance. When the target is 40-60m away, the experiment results show that biases of track azimuth and abeam distance of DPS are under 0.6° and 3.4m, respectively. And the average deviation of estimated velocity is around 0.25m/s.展开更多
This paper presents a source localization algorithm based on the source signal's time-difference-of-arrival(TDOA) for asynchronous wireless sensor network.To obtain synchronization among anchors,all anchors broadc...This paper presents a source localization algorithm based on the source signal's time-difference-of-arrival(TDOA) for asynchronous wireless sensor network.To obtain synchronization among anchors,all anchors broadcast signals periodically,the clock offsets and skews of anchor pairs can be estimated using broadcasting signal's time-of-arrivals(TOA) at anchors.A kalman filter is adopted to improve the accuracy of clock offsets and track the clock drifts due to random fluctuations.Once the source transmits signal,the TOAs at anchors are stamped respectively and source's TDOA error due to clock offset and skew of anchor pair can be mitigated by a compensation operation.Based on a Gaussian noise model,maximum likelihood estimation(MLE) for the source position is obtained.Performance issues are addressed by evaluating the Cramer-Rao lower bound and the selection of broadcasting period.The proposed algorithm is simple and effective,which has close performance with synchronous TDOA algorithm.展开更多

Nonparametric detection is obviously useful in situations where detailed information about the statistics of the noise is unavailable or not accurate. Such TOA estimators are obtained based on conditional statistical tests with only a symmetry distribution assumption on the noise probability density function. The nonparametric estimators are attractive choices for low-resolution IR-UWB digital receivers which can be implemented by fast comparators or high sampling rate low resolution analog-to-digital converters(ADCs),in place of high sampling rate high resolution ADCs which may not be available in practice. Simulation results demonstrate that nonparametric TOA estimators provide more effective and robust performance than typical energy detection(ED) based estimators.展开更多

Traditional location algorithms are based on classical techniques under minimizing a leas...One of the main problems facing accurate location in wireless communication systems is non-line-of- sight (NLOS) propagation. Traditional location algorithms are based on classical techniques under minimizing a least-squares objective function and it loses optimality when the NLOS error distribution deviates from Gaussian distribution. An effective location algorithm based on a robust objective function is proposed to mitigate NLOS errors. The proposed method does not require the prior knowledge of the NLOS error distribution and can give a closed-form solution. A comparison is performed in different NLOS environments between the proposed algorithm and two additional ones (LS method and Chan's method with an NLOS correction). The proposed algorithm clearly outperforms the other two.展开更多

Based on a single mo...Single-station passive localization technology avoids the complex time synchronization and information exchange between multiple observatories, and is increasingly important in electronic warfare. Based on a single moving station localization system, a new method with high localization precision and numerical stability is proposed when the measurements from multiple disjoint sources are subject to the same station position and velocity displacement. According to the available measurements including the angle-of-arrival(AOA), time-of-arrival(TOA), and frequency-of-arrival(FOA), the corresponding pseudo linear equations are deduced. Based on this, a structural total least squares(STLS) optimization model is developed and the inverse iteration algorithm is used to obtain the stationary target location. The localization performance of the STLS localization algorithm is derived, and it is strictly proved that the theoretical performance of the STLS method is consistent with that of the constrained total least squares method under first-order error analysis, both of which can achieve the Cramér-Rao lower bound accuracy. Simulation results show the validity of the theoretical derivation and superiority of the new algorithm.展开更多
