The Three Gorges Project(TGP for short)is the key project to train and develop the Yangtze Riverof China,with multi-objects of flood defence,electricity generation,shipping,etc.However,sediment playsan important role ...The Three Gorges Project(TGP for short)is the key project to train and develop the Yangtze Riverof China,with multi-objects of flood defence,electricity generation,shipping,etc.However,sediment playsan important role in both constructing of engineering and exerting efficiency of TGP.Special attention,there-fore,has been paid to sediment problem of TGP since the very beginning of this engineering's pregnancy.Upto now,much observed data and fruitful researches about TGP have come into being,and a scientific and effi-cient arrangement for them is quite urgent.Therefore,the TGP Sediment Information System(TGPSIS)hasbeen preliminarily developed for this goal.Four sub-systems are included in this system,that is,|)documentsubsystem,ii)map subsystem,il)report subsystem and iv)section subsystem.This paper is only an intro-duction to the design,the development,and the functions of map subsystem.Five parts are included in thispaper.In part one,the target of map system is presented.Some designs are introduced in part two,such aslogic structure,general control framework,interfaces,and network environment.Then,in part three,this pa-per explains basic works for the development of this system,such as the components and characteristics of de-veloping tools-SuperMap GIS,an excellent component GIS software,the preparation of spatial data and at-tribute data,and the points for attention in program.In part four,the paper introduces the main functions ofmap subsystem.Some understandings and experiences are presented in the last part,including the advantagesof SuperMap,the design of the aystem and the further work of this subsystem.展开更多
