Impact of symmetrized and Burt—Foreman Hamiltonians on spurious solutions and energy levels of InAs/GaAs quantum dots

We present a systematic investigation of calculating quantum dots (QDs) energy levels using finite element method in the frame of eight-band k · p method. Numerical results including piezoelectricity, electron and hole levels, as well as wave functions are achieved. In the calculation of energy levels, we do observe spurious solutions (SSs) no matter Burt Foreman or symmetrized Hamiltonians are used. Different theories are used to analyse the SSs, we find that the ellipticity theory can give a better explanation for the origin of SSs and symmetrized Hamiltonian is easier to lead to SSs. The energy levels simulated with the two Hamiltonians are compared to each other after eliminating SSs, different Hamiltonians cause a larger difference on electron energy levels than that on hole energy levels and this difference decreases with the increase of QD size. 展开更多

As an important class of phenanthroline derivatives containing soft N and hard O donor atoms,the laborious syntheses of unsymmetrical 1,10-phenanthroline-derived diamide ligands(DAPhen) have hindered its extensive study.In this work,we first report a convenient synthetic method for the construction of DAPhen using Friedländer reaction by two facile steps(vs.previous 12 steps).A variety of DAPhen ligands are readily available,especially unsymmetrical ones,which give us a platform to systematically study the substituent effect on f-block elements extraction performance.The performance of unsymmetrical extractants is experimentally confirmed to falls between that of their corresponding symmetrical extractants by extracting UO_(2)^(2+) as the representative f-block element.This work provides a direct and versatile method to synthesize symmetrical and unsymmetrical DAPhen,which paves way for the investigations on their coordination properties with metal ions and other applications. 展开更多

Analysis of Causes and Mesoscale Cloud Clusters of a Backflow Blizzard Process in Central Inner Mongolia

Based on the conventional observation data,daily reanalysis data from NCAR/NCEP,and TBB data derived from FY-2G infrared cloud images in April 2018,a heavy snowfall weather process in central Inner Mongolia from April 4 to 6 in 2018 was analyzed.The results show that the low trough at 500 hPa,the southerly wind jet stream at 700 hPa,and the inverted trough on the ground were the main influencing systems causing this blizzard.The transportation of warm and humid air by the southerly wind jet stream at 700 hPa and intense water vapor convergence provided sufficient water vapor conditions for the blizzard,and the moist layer in the blizzard area was deep.The low-level MPV in the blizzard area was<0,and the atmosphere was in a conditional symmetric instability state.The coupling of the upper and lower-level jets induced strong ascending motion.With the invasion of cold air,a low-level cold pad was formed,so that the warm and humid air tilted upward.The secondary circulation updraft triggered by the wet Q vector system released the conditional symmetric instability energy,so that the sloping motion was more intense,and the heavy snowfall appeared.Meanwhile,there was a good correspondence relationship between the blizzard area and the large-value area of low-level wet Q vector divergence.The mesoscale cloud clusters continuously generating,merging,and moving eastward in Hetao area were the direct cause of this blizzard,and the TBB of the cloud clusters was≤-56℃.The blizzard happened in the the edge gradient and large-value area of TBB. 展开更多

Strong coupling among spontaneous structural symmetric breaking,magnetism,and metallicity in an intrinsic polar magnetic metal can give rise to novel physical phenomena and holds great promise for applications in spintronics.Here,we elucidate the mechanism of magnetic polarity in the recently discovered polar metal Sr_(3)Co_(2)O_(7).Our first-principles calculations reveal that both the spontaneous polar displacements and the metallicity originate from charge disproportionation of Co ions.This is characterized by an inverted ligand-field splitting of the Co t_(2g) orbitals at one site,while the metallic behavior is preserved by the t_(2g) orbitals at both sites.Charge disproportionation,which originates from the on-site Hubbard U interaction,stabilizes the asymmetric phase.We thus propose that in related transition metal oxides,charge disproportionation within specific orbitals can concurrently drive metallicity and polarity,enabling strong coupling between these properties.More remarkably,this mechanism allows for the coexistence of magnetism,as evidenced in Sr_(3)Co_(2)O_(7).Our findings highlight a promising avenue for realizing polar magnetic metals and provide a new design principle for exploring multifunctional materials. 展开更多

Owing to the multi-degree-of-freedom characteristics and inherent fault-tolerant capacity,six-phase motors have been widely adopted in high-power applications,such as electric vehicle propulsion and aerospace systems.This paper presents the fault-tolerant control strategy of symmetrical six-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor(SSPMSM)under an isolated neutral point topology and proposes a fault diagnosis scheme based on joint diagnosis of multiple variables.First,two mathematical models of SSPMSM and their relationship are established.Subsequently,the current vectors in the torque subspace and harmonic subspace of the two winding sets under fault conditions are analyzed,and the cause of post-fault torque ripple is explained as resulting from controller conflict.In addition,a multivariate fault diagnosis scheme based on voltage threshold in the x-y subspace and current trajectory characteristics in theα-βsubspace is proposed to enhance the diagnostic accuracy.Finally,the feasibility and stability of the proposed control and diagnosis methods are verified by experiments. 展开更多

In the field of gear fault detection,the symmetrized dot pattern(SDP)technique,combined with a convolutional neural network(CNN),is widely used to classify various types of defects.The SDP-CNN combination is used to transform vibration signals and simplify the defect classification process under stationary operating conditions.This work aims to enhance the SDP-CNN combination for detecting incipient defects in gear under variable working conditions.The vibration signals are filtered by Vold-Kalman Filter Multi-Order Tracking to highlight fault characteristics under variable working conditions.Subsequently,the signals are SDP-transformed and are then classified by optimized CNN.The new pipeline has been validated on an experimental dataset and compared with the classical one by developing both two-and multi-class CNNs.The results showed the applicability of the new pipeline in terms of percentage accuracy and ROC curve compared to the classical approach.Finally,the proposed pipeline was compared with other ML literature techniques using the same dataset. 展开更多

The textures and microstructures of hot-and cold-rolled sheets of an AA 5454 aluminium alloy were studied,with special attention paid to comparing the texture development for the symmetric and asymmetric cold rolling.Scanning electron microscopy with electron-backscatter diffraction was used to monitor the development of the microstructure in the differently deformed and additionally annealed samples.Details of the formations and transformations of individual texture components occurring during the rolling processes were observed and discussed.The average grain sizes,textures and mechanical properties were correlated and explained for the symmetric and asymmetric cold-rolled samples.The asymmetric rolling is beneficial in terms of deep drawability because it reduces the planar anisotropy of the annealed material due to the decrease of the Cube,Goss,rotated-Cube and η-fibre texture components and at the same time strengthens X1-and X2-fibre texture components which are shear texture components and improve deep drawability.During the asymmetric cold rolling,the temperature increases due to friction,triggering recrystallisation processes and leading to larger grains.It is also confirmed that asymmetric cold rolling uses less rolling force and consequently less energy to produce a final material with better formability,particularly earing. 展开更多

Herein,we report a simple self-charging hybrid power system(SCHPS)based on binder-free zinc copper selenide nanostructures(ZnCuSe_(2) NSs)deposited carbon fabric(CF)(i.e.,ZnCuSe_(2)/CF),which is used as an active material in the fabrication of supercapacitor(SC)and triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG).At first,a binder-free ZnCuSe_(2)/CF was synthesized via a simple and facial hydrothermal synthesis approach,and the electrochemical properties of the obtained ZnCuSe_(2)/CF were evaluated by fabricating a symmetric quasi-solid-state SC(SQSSC).The ZCS-2(Zn:Cu ratio of 2:1)material deposited CF-based SQSSC exhibited good electrochemical properties,and the obtained maximum energy and power densities were 7.5 Wh kg^(-1)and 683.3 W kg^(-1),respectively with 97.6%capacitance retention after 30,000 cycles.Furthermore,the ZnCuSe_(2)/CF was coated with silicone rubber elastomer using a doctor blade technique,which is used as a negative triboelectric material in the fabrication of the multiple TENG(M-TENG).The fabricated M-TENG exhibited excellent electrical output performance,and the robustness and mechanical stability of the device were studied systematically.The practicality and applicability of the proposed M-TENG and SQSSC were systematically investigated by powering various low-power portable electronic components.Finally,the SQSSC was combined with the M-TENG to construct a SCHPS.The fabricated SCHPS provides a feasible solution for sustainable power supply,and it shows great potential in self-powered portable electronic device applications. 展开更多

In order to meet the demands of new-generation electric vehicles that require high power output(over 15 kW/kg),it is crucial to increase the energy density of car-bon-based supercapacitors to a level comparable to that of batteries,while maintaining a high power density.We re-port a porous carbon material produced by immersing pop-lar wood(PW)sawdust in a solution of KOH and graphene oxide(GO),followed by carbonization.The resulting mater-ial has exceptional properties as an electrode for high-en-ergy supercapacitors.Compared to the material prepared by the direct carbonization of PW,its electrical conductivity was in-creased from 0.36 to 26.3 S/cm.Because of this and a high microporosity of over 80%,which provides fast electron channels and a large ion storage surface,when used as the electrodes for a symmetric supercapacitor,it gave a high energy density of 27.9 Wh/kg@0.95 kW/kg in an aqueous electrolyte of 1.0 mol/L Na_(2)SO_(4).The device also had battery-level energy storage with maximum energy densities of 73.9 Wh/kg@2.0 kW/kg and 67.6 Wh/kg@40 kW/kg,an ultrahigh power density,in an organic electrolyte of 1.0 mol/L TEABF4/AN.These values are comparable to those of 30−45 Wh/kg for Pb-acid batteries and 30−55 Wh/kg for aqueous lithium batteries.This work indicates a way to prepare carbon materials that can be used in supercapacit-ors with ultrahigh energy and power densities. 展开更多

Symmetry Breaking Dynamics in Quantum Many-Body Systems

In this Letter, we explore how symmetry is dynamically broken through the lens of EA in two ... Entanglement asymmetry(EA) has emerged as a powerful tool for characterizing symmetry breaking in quantum many-body systems. In this Letter, we explore how symmetry is dynamically broken through the lens of EA in two distinct scenarios: a non-symmetric Hamiltonian quench and a non-symmetric random quantum circuit, with a particular focus on U(1) symmetry. In the former case, symmetry remains broken in the subsystem at late times, whereas in the latter case, the symmetry is initially broken and subsequently restored, consistent with the principles of quantum thermalization. Notably, the growth of EA exhibits unexpected overshooting behavior at early times in both contexts, contrasting with the behavior of charge variance. We also consider dynamics of non-symmetric initial states under the symmetry-breaking evolution. Due to the competition of symmetry-breaking in both the initial state and Hamiltonian, the early-time EA can increase and decrease, while quantum Mpemba effects remain evident despite the weak symmetry-breaking in both settings. 展开更多

Improved Resilience of Image Encryption Based on Hybrid TEA and RSA Techniques

Data security is crucial for improving the confidentiality,integrity,and authenticity of the image content.Maintaining these security factors poses significant challenges,particularly in healthcare,business,and social media sectors,where information security and personal privacy are paramount.The cryptography concept introduces a solution to these challenges.This paper proposes an innovative hybrid image encryption algorithm capable of encrypting several types of images.The technique merges the Tiny Encryption Algorithm(TEA)and Rivest-Shamir-Adleman(RSA)algorithms called(TEA-RSA).The performance of this algorithm is promising in terms of cost and complexity,an encryption time which is below 10ms was recorded.It is implied by correlation coefficient analysis that after encryption there is a notable decrease in pixel correlation,therefore making it effective at disguising pixel relationships via obfuscation.Moreover,our technique achieved the highest Normalized Pixel Cross-Correlation(NPCC),Number of Pixel Change Rate(NPCR)value over 99%consistent,and a Unified Average Changing Intensity(UACI)value which stands at around 33.86 thereby making it insensitive to statistical attacks hence leading to massive alteration of pixel values and intensities.These make clear the resistance of this process to any sort of hacking attempt whatsoever that might want unauthorized access into its domain.It is important to note that the integrity of images is well preserved throughout encryption as well as decryption stages in line with these low decryption times are clear indications.These results collectively indicate that the algorithm is effective in ensuring secure and efficient image encryption while maintaining the overall integrity and quality of the encrypted images.The proposed hybrid approach has been investigated against cryptoanalysis such as Cyphertext-only attacks,Known-plaintext attacks,Chosen-plaintext attacks,and Chosen-ciphertext attacks.Moreover,the proposed approach explains a good achievement against cropping and differential attacks. 展开更多

In this paper,we propose a symmetric difference data enhancement physics-informed neural network(SDE-PINN)to study soliton solutions for discrete nonlinear lattice equations(NLEs).By considering known and unknown symmetric points,numerical simulations are conducted to one-soliton and two-soliton solutions of a discrete KdV equation,as well as a one-soliton solution of a discrete Toda lattice equation.Compared with the existing discrete deep learning approach,the numerical results reveal that within the specified spatiotemporal domain,the prediction accuracy by SDE-PINN is excellent regardless of the interior or extrapolation prediction,with a significant reduction in training time.The proposed data enhancement technique and symmetric structure development provides a new perspective for the deep learning approach to solve discrete NLEs.The newly proposed SDE-PINN can also be applied to solve continuous nonlinear equations and other discrete NLEs numerically. 展开更多

The classification of motor imagery electroencephalogram(MI-EEG)signals is one of the key challenges in brain-computer interface(BCI)technology.Existing Riemannian geometry-based methods for MI-EEG signal analysis,which rely on a single symmetric positive definite(SPD)manifold,often provide a limited geometric structure,making it difficult to fully capture the complex geometric characteristics of the signals.To address this issue,this paper proposes an innovative classification method for MI-EEG signals based on multi-Riemannian kernel fusion features(MRKFF).This method extends the classical SPD manifold by incorporating the Gaussian SPD manifold and the Grassmann manifold,extracting more discriminative kernel features from these heterogeneous manifolds for fusion-based classification.The proposed method is validated on the OpenBMI binary classification dataset and the BCI Competition IV-2a four-class dataset,achieving average classification accuracies of 75.6%and 71.0%,with Kappa values of 0.50 and 0.61,respectively.The proposed MRKFF method provides a new perspective for the geometric analysis of MI-EEG signals,enabling a deeper understanding and analysis of the complex geometric structure of these signals,thereby achieving more accurate signal classification in BCI applications. 展开更多

As environmental concerns from fossil fuel consumption intensify,large-scale energy storage becomes imperative for the integration of renewable sources like wind,hydro,and solar with the electrical grid.Redox flow batteries,particularly those employing organic molecules,are positioned as a key technology for this purpose.This review explores the growing field of symmetric organic redox flow batteries(ORFBs)within this context.Unlike traditional asymmetric designs based on unique active materials for each electrode,symmetric ORFBs involve a single bipolar species for both electrodes.This review highlights the benefits of a symmetric design,and categorizes five distinct classes of organic bipolar molecules used in both aqueous and non-aqueous solvents.By providing a comprehensive overview of their cell cycling and performance characteristics,the strengths and weaknesses of the diverse categories of bipolar molecules are highlighted for both solvent systems,as are opportunities for future development.This should guide new research directions and advance the development of practical symmetric ORFBs. 展开更多
