In this study, hyperspectral reflectance of rice panicles was measured at the visible and near-infrared regions. The panicles were divided into three groups according to health conditions: healthy panicles, empty panicles caused by Nilaparvata lugens St^l, and panicles infected with Ustilaginoidea virens. Low order derivative spectra, namely, the first and second orders, were obtained using different techniques. Principal component analysis (PCA) was performed to obtain the principal component spectra (PCS) of the foregoing derivative and raw spectra to reduce the reflectance spectral dimension. Support vector classification (SVC) was employed to discriminate the healthy, empty, and infected panicles, with the front three PCS as the in- dependent variables. The overall accuracy and kappa coefficient were used to assess the classification accuracy of SVC. The overall accuracies of SVC with PCS derived from the raw, first, and second reflectance spectra for the testing dataset were 96.55%, 99.14%, and 96.55%, and the kappa coefficients were 94.81%, 98.71%, and 94.82%, respectively. Our results demonstrated that it is feasible to use visible and near-infrared spectroscopy to discriminate health conditions of rice panicles.展开更多

Data preprocessing and preparation involve two processes: data cleaning and feature scaling. Several machine learning algorithms, including Linear Regression(LR), Decision Tree(DT), Support Vector Machine(SVM),Random Forest(RF), and Gradient Boosting(GB) for classification, were tested using different iterations and various combinations of features and parameters. The support vector radial kernel training model achieved an accuracy of 72.49% without grid search and 64.02% with grid search, while the blind-well test scores were 71.01% and 69.67%, respectively. The Decision Tree(DT) Hyperparameter Optimization model showed an accuracy of 64.15% for training and 67.45% for testing. In comparison, the Decision Tree coupled with grid search yielded better results, with a training score of 69.91% and a testing score of67.89%. The model's validation was carried out using the blind well validation approach, which achieved an accuracy of 69.81%. Three algorithms were used to generate the gradient-boosting model. During training, the Gradient Boosting classifier achieved an accuracy score of 71.57%, and during testing, it achieved 69.89%. The Grid Search model achieved a higher accuracy score of 72.14% during testing. The Extreme Gradient Boosting model had the lowest accuracy score, with only 66.13% for training and66.12% for testing. For validation, the Gradient Boosting(GB) classifier model achieved an accuracy score of 75.41% on the blind well test, while the Gradient Boosting with Grid Search achieved an accuracy score of 71.36%. The Enhanced Random Forest and Random Forest with Bagging algorithms were the most effective, with validation accuracies of 78.30% and 79.18%, respectively. However, the Random Forest and Random Forest with Grid Search models displayed significant variance between their training and testing scores, indicating the potential for overfitting. Random Forest(RF) and Gradient Boosting(GB) are highly effective for facies classification because they handle complex relationships and provide high predictive accuracy. The choice between the two depends on specific project requirements, including interpretability, computational resources, and data nature.展开更多

This paper proposes a hybrid classification scheme for coal, municipal sludge and biomass by using LIBS combined with K-means and support vector machine(SVM)algorithm. In the study, 10 samples were classified in 3 groups without supervision by K-means clustering, then a further supervised classification of 6 kinds of biomass samples by SVM was carried out. The results show that the comprehensive accuracy of the hybrid classification model is over 98%. In comparison with the single SVM classification model, the hybrid classification model can save 58.92% of operation time while guaranteeing the accuracy. The results demonstrate that the hybrid classification model is able to make an efficient, fast and accurate classification of coal, municipal sludge and biomass, furthermore, it is precise for the detection of various kinds of biomass fuel.展开更多

However, the well-known content-based image classification methods do not overcome the so-called semantic gap problem in which low-level visual features cannot represent the high-level semantic content of images. Image classification using visual and textual information often performs poorly since the extracted textual features are often too limited to accurately represent the images. In this paper, we propose a semantic image classification ap- proach using multi-context analysis. For a given image, we model the relevant textual information as its multi-modal context, and regard the related images connected by hyperlinks as its link context. Two kinds of context analysis models, i.e., cross-modal correlation analysis and link-based correlation model, are used to capture the correlation among different modals of features and the topical dependency among images induced by the link structure. We propose a new collective classification model called relational support vector classifier (RSVC) based on the well-known Support Vector Machines (SVMs) and the link-based cor- relation model. Experiments showed that the proposed approach significantly improved classification accuracy over that of SVM classifiers using visual and/or textual features.展开更多
