This longitudinal study investigated how self-management and learning burnout influences the relationship between habitual mobile phone use and subjective well-being amongfirst-year university students.A sample of 1172 Chinese university students participated in a two-wave survey, with data collected six months apart at two time points(T1,T2).The results of Pearson correlation revealed that higher habitual mobile phone use at T1 was associated with lower subjective well-being at T2.Self-management was associated with healthy phone use habits and higher subjective wellbeing.Learning burnout risk was higher with habitual phone usage.Lower self-management and learning burnout at T2 played a chain mediating role between habitual mobile phone use at T1 and subjective well-being at T2 so that subjective well-being was much lower that with either of the variables alone.Overall, thesefindings suggest that habitual mobile phone use is a reliable predictor of college student’s subjective well-being,by their self-management and level of learning burnout over time. This research highlights the long-term impact of habitual mobile phone use on students’subjective well-being and provides valuable insights for developing effective interventions to support students well-being. 展开更多

AIM:To compare objective dry retinoscopy and subjective refraction measurements in patients with mild keratoconus(KCN)and quantify any differences.METHODS:This cross-sectional study was done on 68 eyes of 68 patients diagnosed with mild KCN.Objective dry retinoscopy using autorefractometer and subjective refraction measurements were performed.Sphere,cylinder,J0,J45,and spherical equivalent values were compared between the two techniques.RESULTS:The mean age of 68 patients with mild KCN was 21.32±5.03y(12–35y).There were 37(54.4%)males.Objective refraction yielded significantly more myopic sphere(-1.44 D vs-0.57 D),higher cylinder magnitude(-2.24 D vs-1.48 D),and more myopic spherical equivalent(-2.56 D vs-1.31 D)compared to subjective refraction(all P<0.05).The mean differences were-0.87 D for sphere,-0.76 D for cylinder,and-1.25 D for spherical equivalent. No significant differences were found for J0 and J45 values, indicating agreement in astigmatism axis(P>0.05).CONCLUSION:In patients with mild KCN,objective dry retinoscopy overestimates the degree of myopia and astigmatism compared to subjective refraction. The irregular cornea in KCN likely impacts objective measurements.Subjective refraction allows compensation for irregularity, providing a more accurate correction. When determining refractive targets, the tendency of objective methods to overcorrect should be considered. 展开更多

Subjective and objective measures of sleep structure or quality could help to characterize the chronic sleep disturbances, with relation to patients' risk factor profiles and co-morbidities. Studies have shown that discrepancies can occur between subjective data regarding sleep disturbances and the impact of insomnia and objective assays, and surrogate markers of sleep and sleep disturbances. Both objective and subjective measures should be incorporated into clinic studies. It seems likely that sleep quality is represented by a combination of more than one subjective sleep parameter. Objective and subjective assessments of sleep quality may relate to different parameters. We consider the response of a test subject upon a skin area being heated with an electromagnetic wave or a contact surface. When the specifications of the electromagnetic beam are fixed, the stimulus is solely described by the heating duration. The binary response of a subject, escape or no escape, is determined by the stimulus and a subjective threshold that varies among test realizations. We study four methods for inferring the median subjective threshold in psychophysical experiments: 1) sample median, 2) maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) with 2 variables, 3) MLE with 1 variable, and 4) adaptive Bayesian method. While methods 1 - 3 require samples of time to escape measured in the method of limits, method 4 utilizes binary outcomes observed in the method of constant stimuli. We find that a) the adaptive Bayesian method converges and is as efficient as the sample median even when the assumed model distribution is incorrect;b) this robust convergence is lost if we infer the mean instead of the median;c) for the optimal performance in an uncertain situation, it is best to use a wide model distribution;d) the predicted error from the posterior standard deviation is unreliable, dominated by the assumed model distribution. 展开更多

Subjective visual vertical(SVV)and subjective visual horizontal(SVH)tests can be used to evaluate the perception of verticality and horizontality, respectively, and can aid the diagnosis of otolith dysfunction in clinical practice. In this study,SVV and SVH screen version tests are implemented using virtual reality(VR)equipment;the proposed test method promotes a more immersive feeling for the subject while using a simple equipment configuration and possessing excellent mobility. To verify the performance of the proposed VR-based SVV and SVH tests,a reliable comparison was made between the traditional screen-based SVV and SVH tests and the proposed method, based on 30 healthy subjects. The average results of our experimental tests on the VR-based binocular SVV and SVH equipment were−0.15◦±1.74 and 0.60◦±1.18,respectively.The proposed VR-based method satisfies the normal tolerance for horizontal or vertical lines,i.e.,a±3◦error,as defined in previous studies, and it can be used to replace existing test methods. 展开更多

The invisibility was even taken as one of the standards of a good translator. However, great change happens, especially after the"culture turn"in translation study and the role of the translators has been laid emphasis on. This kind of sharp change has led to two extreme thoughts on this issue: scholars choose either total invisibility or complete subjectivity. This paper puts forward an inter-subjective system, in which the subjectivity should be emphasized only with constraints. The other subjects in the inter-subjective system contribute to the restriction of the subjectivity of the translator during the translation process.By writing this paper, the author wishes to present a comprehensive and balanced way of understanding translators' subjectivity. Therefore, no matter analyzing the translation process or evaluating translation products, people will be more objective towards the role of translators. 展开更多

AIM: To investigate the role of subjective global assessment (SGA) in nutritional assessment and outcome prediction of Chinese patients with gastrointestinal cancer. METHODS: A total of 751 patients diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer between August 2004 and August 2006 were enrolled in this study. Within 72 h after admission, SGA, anthropometric parameters, and laboratory tests were used to assess the nutritional status of each patient. The outcome variables including hospital stay, complications, and in-hospital medical expenditure were also obtained.RESULTS: Based on the results of SGA, 389 (51.8%), 332 (44.2%), and 30 (4.0%) patients were classified into well nourished group (SGA-A), mildly to moderately malnourished group (SGA-B), and severely malnourished group (SGA-C), respectively. The prevalence of malnutrition classified by SGA, triceps skinfold thickness (TSF), mid-upper arm muscle circumference (MAMC), albumin (ALB), prealbumin (PA), and body mass index (BMI) was 48.2%, 39.4%, 37.7%, 31.3%, 21.7%, and 9.6%, respectively. In addition, ANOVA tests revealed significant differences in body mass index (BMI), TSF, PA, and ALB of patients in different SGA groups. The more severely malnourished the patient was, the lower the levels of BMI, TSF, PA, and ALB were (P 〈 0.05). x^2 tests showed a significant difference in SGA classification between patients receiving different types of treatment (surgery vs chemotherapy/radiotherapy). As the nutritional status classified by SGA deteriorated, the patients stayed longer in hospital and their medical expenditures increased significantly. Furthermore, multiple regression analysis showed that SGA and serum ALB could help predict the medical expenditures and hospital stay of patients undergoing surgery. The occurrence of complications increased in parallel with the increasing grade of SGA, and was the highest in the SGA-C group (23.3%) and the lowest in the SGA-A group (16.8%). CONCLUSION: SGA is a reliable assessment too and helps to predict the hospital stay and medica expenditures of Chinese surgical gastrointestina cancer patients. 展开更多

Objective:To validate malnutrition screening tool of nutrition risk index (NRI) against patent-generated subjective global assessment (PG-SGA) as a gold standard tool in colorectal cancer patients before radiotherapy. Methods:Nutritional status of 52 volunteer colorectal cancer patients with a mean age of 54.1±16.8 years who referred to radiotherapy center were assessed by PG-SGA (gold standard method) and NRI.Serum albumin levels of patients were determined by colorimetric method.A contingency table was used to determine the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive value of the NRI in screening patients at risk of malnutrition,in comparison with the PG-SGA in patients before radiotherapy. Results:The findings of PG-SGA and NRI showed that 52% and 45% of patients in our study were moderately or severely malnourished respectively. The NRI had a sensitivity of 66% and a specificity of 60% against PG-SGA.The positive predictive value was 64% and the negative predicative value was 62%.The agreement between NRI and PG-SGA was statistically insignificant (kappa =0.267; P>0.05).Conclusions:The findings of present study showed that the prevalence of malnutrition was high in patients with colorectal cancer. Moreover,NRI method had low sensitivity and specificity in assessing nutritional status of patients with cancer. It seems that the combination of anthropometric, laboratory parameters and a subjective scoring system may be helpful tools in screening of malnutrition in cancer patients. 展开更多

Objectives To analyze the correlations between family care, coping strategies and the subject well-being(SWB)of patients with coronary heart disease(CHD)after percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI).Methods From November 2019 to October 2020,264 CHD patients who had undergone PCI were enrolled in this questionnaire survey. The research tools applied included General Information Questionnaire, the Adaptation,Partnership,Growth,Affection and Resolve,Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire, and the General Well-being Schedule.SPSS 24.0 and Amos 23.0 software packages were used for statistical analysis. Results The mean scores for family care,confrontation,avoidance,acceptance-resignation and SWB,were 7.59±2.24,20.03±3.78,16.49±2.70,10.42±2.01,and 73.31±11.63,respectively.Subgroup analysis showed that the path coefficient between family care and subjective well-being was higher in males than females.Family care was directly related to coping strategies. The coping strategies were directly related to SWB,while family care showed an indirect association with SWB via coping strategies. Conclusions Family care can improve CHD patients’SWB post-PCI,and coping strategies are important for the link between family care and SWB.Also, men received more family care than women.Based on a patient's characteristics, healthcare providers can promote patients’positive coping strategies, increase their perceived family care, and improve the patient's SWB. 展开更多
