This form of locomotion may have been important to our survival and likely has influenced the evolution of ou...It is believed that human ancestors evolved the ability to run bipedally approximately 2 million years ago. This form of locomotion may have been important to our survival and likely has influenced the evolution of our body form. As our bodies have adapted to run, it seems unusual that up to 79% of modern day runners are injured annually. The etiology of these injuries is clearly multifactorial. However, 1 aspect of running that has significantly changed over the past 50 years is the footwear we use. Modern running shoes have become increasingly cushioned and supportive, and have changed the way we run. In particular, they have altered our footstrike pattern from a predominantly forefoot strike(FFS) landing to a predominantly rearfoot strike(RFS) landing. This change alters the way in which the body is loaded and may be contributing to the high rate of injuries runners experience while engaged in an activity for which they were adapted. In this paper, we will examine the benefits of barefoot running(typically an FFS pattern),and compare the lower extremity mechanics between FFS and RFS. The implications of these mechanical differences, in terms of injury, will be discussed. We will then provide evidence to support our contention that FFS provides an optimal mechanical environment for specific foot and ankle structures, such as the heel pad, the plantar fascia, and the Achilles tendon. The importance of footwear will then be addressed, highlighting its interaction with strike pattern on mechanics. This analysis will underscore why footwear matters when assessing mechanics. Finally, proper preparation and safe transition to an FFS pattern in minimal shoes will be emphasized. Through the discussion of the current literature, we will develop a justification for returning to running in the way for which we were adapted to reduce running-related injuries.展开更多

In 2018-2019,two types of rocket-triggered lightning tests,that is,striking to ground and distribution line,were conducted in Guangdong,China.The main focus of this paper is to compare the waveform parameters of the r...In 2018-2019,two types of rocket-triggered lightning tests,that is,striking to ground and distribution line,were conducted in Guangdong,China.The main focus of this paper is to compare the waveform parameters of the return strokes(RS)from the two tests.For current,the 10%-90%risetime of RS from lightning striking to distribution line is 2.4 times higher than that striking to ground,and the differences in the other parameters are small.For close magnetic field,the RS from lightning striking to distribution line have a lower peak(30%lower after considering the peak current)and a larger risetime and half-peak width time;besides,it is necessary to divide the front edge of the close magnetic field waveform into two parts:leader(BL)and return stroke(BRS).For close electric field,the close RS electric field peak(ERS)was less sensitive to distance than the leader electric field peak(EL).For far electric field,the differences in waveform parameters of RS from the two tests were not significant,but after considering the peak current,the normalised initial electric field peak(EP)of RS from lightning striking to distribution line was 14%lower than that striking to ground.展开更多
In the summer of 2018–2019,rocket-triggered lightning experiments were conducted in Guangzhou,China.There were two types of lightning targets:ground and overhead line.By comparing the current and the electric field d...In the summer of 2018–2019,rocket-triggered lightning experiments were conducted in Guangzhou,China.There were two types of lightning targets:ground and overhead line.By comparing the current and the electric field data in the two cases,it was found that when the continuous current level(ICC)and current amplitude(IM)of M-components(current pulses generated during the continuous current stage)are large,the time difference between the electric field peak and the current peak(TD)will always be small.The rise time(RT)and half peak width(THPW)of M-components with high ICC and IM are low in both the cases.The threshold upper limit of TD in the case of lightning striking the ground is higher,approxi-mately 2.6 times than that in the case of lightning striking the overhead line.We use an optimised guided wave model to simulate the electric field waveforms of M-components.It was found that the shorter RT and THPW of the M-component,the smaller TD.The changes in wave speed and IM cannot affect the size of TD,and the impact of distance changes is very weak.The difference in the threshold upper limit of TD may be related to the significant difference in ground impedance in two cases.展开更多

Objective: To observe the risk factors of thrombosis in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).Methods: From February 2001 to April 2003, 24 patients with moderate and severe OSAHS (OSAHS grou...Objective: To observe the risk factors of thrombosis in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).Methods: From February 2001 to April 2003, 24 patients with moderate and severe OSAHS (OSAHS group) and 19 healthy adults (control group) were recruited. Their blood samples were drawn at 6∶00 and 16∶00 respectively for testing hemocrit, platelet aggregation (PAG), whole blood viscosity (WBV), prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), plasma fibrinogen (Fng) and endothelin (ET).Results: There was a significantly higher hemocrit, WBV, Fng and ET as well as a significant shortening of PT and APTT at 6∶00 than that at 16∶00 in OSAHS group. However, there was no significant difference in all testing items between 6∶00 and 16∶00 in control group. The hemocrit, WBV, PAG, plasma Fng and ET were significantly higher, and PT and APTT were obviously shorter at 6∶00 in OSAHS group than those at 6∶00 in control group. A higher hemocrit, PAG, plasma Fng and ET, a longer PT and APTT were observed at 16∶00 in OSAHS group, compared with those at 16∶00 in control group.Conclusion: In OSAHS patients there were striking risk factors of thrombosis, which is more remarkable in the early morning than in the afternoon.展开更多
