In this study, the development course, concept, objectives and design elements of complete streets were studied, and the conceptual framework of street integrity evaluation was established. Shashen Road in Shenzhen City was as a case to analyze the problems existing in traditional street design and explore the spatial design method of complete streets. It is pointed out that street design should adapt to local conditions and be optimized according to current situation. The improvement measures that can be implemented were proposed to enhance the vitality of streets.展开更多

While the street design is seemingly a technical means for physical space, essentially it is the redistribution of urban space rights. This paper argues that street design should focus on the 'street right,' which can be divided into the right to pass and the right to stay, and it may as well be divided into permanent right and process right. Permanent right mainly includes property right and use right, and process right includes participation right and decision-making right. At present, there are many problems confronted by streets in China, such as uncoordinated division of property right between public and private parties, unfair spatial distribution neglecting the use right of slow traffic, less participation and no decision-making right for citizens during street design process, etc. Based on recent design practices in Shanghai, Xiamen, Shangyu, and several other cities, this paper explores strategies in terms of the coordination and integration of property right and space, fair distribution of street use right, and the public empowerment in street design.展开更多

With the rapid development of cities,humans have higher and higher requirements for surrounding environment. To this end,this paper makes a preliminary exploration on the green landscape of urban streets. Based on the analysis of the basic concepts and components of green landscape of urban streets,this paper puts forward the role of green landscape of urban streets: practical function,landscape creation function and environment optimization function. Taking the Guangchang East Road in Xihu District of Nanchang City as an example,through field survey,observation and data collection,it found that the main problems of Guangchang East Road,and came up with the recommendations that the design of the greening landscape of Guangchang East Road in the planting and color block matching. The stay space in residential streets as a place for daily activities of modern people is slow space that is usually ignored. Modern people tend to have a relatively fixed choice of the stay space on the street. This study took East Guangchang Road in Nanchang for example to analyze the factors affecting people's staying activity on the street, the type of stay space, and the existing problems, and put forward a few design suggestions.展开更多
