In this paper,the hydrogeological parameters of a confined aquifer,such as transmissivity(T),storativity(S)and radius of influence(R),have been assessed using real groundwater level measurements recorded by a monitori...In this paper,the hydrogeological parameters of a confined aquifer,such as transmissivity(T),storativity(S)and radius of influence(R),have been assessed using real groundwater level measurements recorded by a monitoring network,consisting of automated municipal water supply boreholes at Nea Moudania aquifer,Chalkidiki,Greece.Particularly,the paper focused on the correlation between the drawdown and the constant flow rate during pumping time.So the Cooper-Jacob and the recovery test method were applied in order to delineate if turbulent head losses occur,as well as the impact of incorrect measurements of the radial distance(r)in the accuracy of estimating S values.The results show that a)the occurrence of a linear correlation between s and Q indicates a negligible turbulent head loss in the pumping wells and thus a reasonable flow rate usage,b)the validity of storativity values could be compromised if the r value is not accurately measured,and c)recovery test method can be used as an indicator of residual drawdown(s’)caused by previous pumping cycles,when the straight line intersecting the logarithmic t/t’axis has a value greater than 1.展开更多

Nine vertical electrical soundings using the Schlumberger con...This study was carried out to investigate the groundwater potential and aquifer characteristics of locations in Igun, Eku and Oria in Delta State, Nigeria. Nine vertical electrical soundings using the Schlumberger configuration were conducted to assess the geoelectric properties of the subsurface, while down-hole loggings and pumping test were employed to evaluate the aquifer characteristics of the area. The geoelectric data were interpreted by partial curve matching and computer iteration techniques to determine the resistivity, thickness and depth of the subsurface formations. The result revealed the presence of four geoelectric layers comprising of lateritic/loamy topsoil, clay, fine-medium grain sand, and coarse sand. Analysis of the geoelectric interpretation indicates that the third and fourth layers are water bearing horizons. Result further indicates that the fourth layer with a resistivity range of 2212 to 7148 Ωm and depth range of 24.7 to 31.9 m is more prolific than the third layer aquifer. The result of hydrogeological investigation showed that the electrical conductivity of the groundwater aquifer in Igun, Eku and Oria are 0.028, 0.032 and 0.024 mS/m respectively, while their corresponding total dissolved solid are 91.08, 95.92 and 79.53 mg/m3. The result also showed that the transmissivity of the groundwater in Igun, Eku and Oria are 0.0728, 0.0873 and 0.0679 m2/min respectively while their corresponding storativity were obtained as 3.21 × 10-4, 4.71 × 10-4, and 2.87 × 10-4. These results obtained from the three locations have shown that the groundwater aquifer is reliable in terms of quality and yield as they conform to international standards.展开更多

This article studies the soil moisture conditions of 30 years artificial Robinia pseudoacacia in the north of Shaanxi under different climate conditions in order to explore the relationship between soil moisture and i...This article studies the soil moisture conditions of 30 years artificial Robinia pseudoacacia in the north of Shaanxi under different climate conditions in order to explore the relationship between soil moisture and impact factor of Robinia pseudoacacia in this area,and variation characteristics of soil moisture in the Loess Plateau region. The results show that soil moisture content decreases with increase of soil depth, and in 40- 50 cm depth the jump point of moisture reduction appears significantly. Soil moisture was lower than the growth critical moisture in 5 samples to the north of Chunhua,and has different degrees of deficit. Soil moisture deficit degree was more than 50% in sandy loam and light loam soils such as Yulin,Shenmu and Suide. With the increasing of latitude,both of soil accumulative storage and net rainfall tends to decrease,but the relationship between them is significant correlation,indicating that that climate conditions are the major factors causing significant difference of soil moisture.展开更多

The determination of hydraulic conductivity tensor of rock mass is a vital problem for the sea water intrusion or sea water encroachment and seepage of fissured medium. According to the geological and hydrogeological conditions for the 2nd-stage construction of the Three Gorges Project (TGP), the physical and mathematical models for the groundwater movement through the 3D double fractured media of rock mass during construction were established in this paper. Based on discontinuity-control inverse theory, some related parameters of double fractured media were inversed with flux being the known quantity and calibration of water table the objective function. Synchronously, the seepage field of the construction region was systematically analyzed and simulated, the results of which exhibit that the double fractured media model of fracture water can comprehensively and correctly describe the geological and hydrogeological conditions in the construction region.展开更多
The Neoarchean StorøSupracrustal Belt in SW Greenland comprises a sequence of mature quartzite,metapelite,amphibolite,and ultramafic rocks that underwent amphibolite facies metamorphism during the amalgamation of...The Neoarchean StorøSupracrustal Belt in SW Greenland comprises a sequence of mature quartzite,metapelite,amphibolite,and ultramafic rocks that underwent amphibolite facies metamorphism during the amalgamation of the Mesoarchean Akia Terrane and the Eoarchean Færingehavn Terrane.In this belt,tourmaline is found in a transition zone between ultramafic and metapelitic rocks,but also occurs as orbicules within the ultramafic rocks.These tourmaline orbicules hosted by ultramafic rocks are reported for the first time in the North Atlantic craton,thus indicating a unique formation mechanism.We conducted a comprehensive examination of the petrology,whole-rock and mineral chemistry,and oxygen isotope compositions from borehole samples in the StorøSupracrustal Belt,to elucidate the metasomatic events associated with the formation of the orbicular tourmalines.The Storøultramafic rocks have high MgO,Cr,and Ni contents,with low abundances of REE and HFSE,and preserve a typical cumulate texture.These features are similar to those of ultramafic cumulates found in other Archean supracrustal belts,suggesting a cumulate origin for the Storøultramafic rocks.Furthermore,the morphology and composition of the tourmaline orbicules within these cumulates indicate that they originated from melts with high boron and high water concentrations that infiltrated the ultramafic rocks.The main factor influencing the morphology of the tourmaline orbicules is the silicification of the ultramafic rocks,driven by their lower chemical potential of SiO_(2)compared to the surrounding rocks.This silicification process,in combination with compositional variations of cumulates during fractional crystallization,has contributed to the geochemical diversity observed in Archean ultramafic rocks.Thus,it is crucial to understand the effects of such selective metasomatism on Archean ultramafic rocks,as this will facilitate the extraction of original information preserved in the early rock record.展开更多
