Utilizing the Discrete Element Method, this research studied the stiffness distribution of gap-graded soils by modifying the conventional static method.By acknowledging the inherent particle property disparity between coarser and finer particles, this research differentiates the stiffness distribution of gap-graded soils from the perspective of contact and particle types. Results indicate that particle property disparity significantly influence the small-strain stiffness characteristics, consequently altering the overall stiffness distribution in gap-graded soil specimens.Specifically, with the equivalent coarser particle property,an increase in particle Young's modulus of finer particles results in an augmentation of small-strain stiffness values, alongside an increased stiffness distribution contribution from finer particles.Nevertheless, this study reveals that even with a higher particle Young's modulus of finer particles, the proportion of small-strain stiffness transferred by finer particles remains consistently lower than their volume fraction.Furthermore, the proportion of stiffness transferred by finer particles may fall below their contribution to stress transmission. This investigation accentuates the subtle yet significant effects of particle property variations on small strain stiffness and its subsequent distribution, providing a foundation for advancing the significance of particle property disparities in evaluating soil responses. 展开更多

The optimal material removal strategy can improve a geometric accuracy and surface quality of thin-walled parts such as turbine blades and blisks in high-speed ball end milling. The dominant conception in the material removal represents the persistence of the workpiece cutting stiffness in operation to advance the machining accuracy and machining efficiency. On the basis of theoretical models of cutting stiffness and deformation, finite element method (FEM) is applied to calculate the virtual displacements of the thin-walled part under given virtual loads at the nodes of the discrete surface. With the reference of deformation distribution of the thin-walled part, the milling material removal strategy is optimized to make the best of bracing ability of still uncut material. This material removal method is summarized as the lower stiffness region removed firstly and the higher stiffness region removed next.Analytical and experimental results show the availability, which has been verified by the blade machining test in this work, for thin-walled parts to reduce cutting deformation and meliorate machining quality. 展开更多

Discrete element modeling was used to investigate the effect of particle size distribution on the small strain shear stiffness of granular soils and explore the fundamental mechanism controlling this small strain shear stiffness at the particle level. The results indicate that the mean particle size has a negligible effect on the small strain shear modulus. The observed increase of the shear modulus with increasing particle size is caused by a scale effect. It is suggested that the ratio of sample size to the mean particle size should be larger than 11.5 to avoid this possible scale effect. At the same confining pressure and void ratio, the small strain shear modulus decreases as the coefficient of uniformity of the soil increases. The Poisson's ratio decreases with decreasing void ratio and increasing confining pressure instead of being constant as is commonly assumed. Microscopic analyses indicate that the small strain shear stiffness and Poisson's ratio depend uniquely on the soil's coordination number. 展开更多

The static test of 13 square hollow section(SHS) X-joints with different β and different types of plate reinforcement under in-plane moment in brace was carried out. Experimental test schemes, failure modes of specimens, moment-vertical displacement curves, moment-deformation of the chord, and strain strength distribution curves were presented. The effect of β and plate reinforcement types on in-plane flexural property of SHS X-joints was studied. Results show that punching shear of chord face disappears, brace material fracture appears and concave and convex deformation of chord decrease when either collar plates or doubler plates were welded on chord face. Moment-vertical displacement curves of all specimens have obvious elastic, elastic-plastic and plastic stages. As β increases, the in-plane flexural ultimate capacity and initial stiffness of joints of the same plate reinforcement type increase, but ductility of joints decreases. With the same β, the in-plane flexural initial stiffness and ultimate capacity of doubler plate reinforced joints, collar plate reinforced joints, and unreinforced joints decrease progressively. Thickness of reinforcement plate has no obvious effect on in-plane flexural initial stiffness and ultimate capacity of joints. As thickness of reinforcement plate increases, the ductility of reinforced X-joints decreases. The concave and convex deformation of every specimen has good symmetry;as β increases, the yield and ultimate deformation of chord decrease. 展开更多

A slight uneven settlement of the foundation may cause the wind turbine to shake, tilt,or even collapse,so it is increasingly necessary to realize remote condition monitoring of the foundations. At present, the wind turbine foundation monitoring system is incomplete. The current monitoring research of the tower foundation is mainly of contact measurements, using acceleration sensors and static-level sensors for monitoring multiple reference points.Such monitoring methods will face some disadvantages, such as the complexity of monitoring deployment, the cost of manpower, and the load effect on the tower structure. To solve above issues, this paper aims to investigate wind turbine tower foundation variation dynamic monitoring based on machine vision.Machine vision monitoring is a kind of noncontact measurement, which helps to realize comprehensive diagnosis of early foundation uneven settlement and loose faults. The FEA model is firstly investigated as the theoretical foundation to investigate the dynamics of the tower foundation.Second, the Gaussian-based vibration detection is adopted by tracking the tower edge points. Finally,a tower structure with distributed foundation support is tested. The modal parameters obtained from the visual measurement are compared with those from the accelerometer, proving the vision method can effectively monitor the issues with tower foundation changes. 展开更多
