To investigate the spoilage characteristics of Jinhua ham, sensory scores, volatile compounds, biogenic amine, physicochemical parameters and microbial counts were evaluated between normal and spoiled hams. The results showed that off-odors of spoiled hams were dominated by rancid, sour, sulfide and ammonia odors derived from these compounds including butanoic acid, methanethiol and dimethyl disulfide.Total content of biogenic amine in spoiled hams was significantly higher(more than 10-fold)compared with normal hams, and putrescine, cadaverine and histamine were the key components of biogenic amine of spoiled hams.Lower salt content, and higher moisture,TVB-N and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS)values were observed in spoiled hams compared with normal hams. The populations of Enterobacteriaceae and Enterococcus of spoiled hams were obviously higher than that of normal hams.High moisture and low salt content caused the abnormal growth of Enterobacteriaceae and Enterococcus in spoiled hams, which contributed to the spoilage of Jinhua ham. 展开更多

Larvae of Apriona germari (Hope), found widely in China, cause serious damage to trees and are difficult to control. Since some biological control methods have not been applied effectively in the field, chemical control methods are used widely. Because of low cost, no poisonous residues and relatively safe application, zinc phosphide sticks have been tested to control the larvae as a matter of urgency. However, there were no criteria about the dosage and use. Given the characteristics of larvae tunnels on triploid Populus tomentosa trees and the one-on-one way of using poison-fumigated sticks, the larvae were treated by three treatments with zinc phosphide sticks. The treatments are as follows: inserting one stick into the first hole of the tunnel from bottom to top (T1), inserting a stick into each of the lowest two holes (T2) and inserting one stick into the first and third hole from bottom to top separately (T3). We cleared the frass around the holes and on the ground before inserting the sticks and blocking every hole with mud for each treatment. After the fourth investigation was carried out, the larvae of CK were still active, and had caused serious damage and emanated fresh fi'ass from old and new holes. Some larvae treated with T1 and T2 were in an intermediate state, but all of the larvae treated with T3 died completely and their old holes had healed. The results show that inserting zinc phosphide sticks (the extent of dispersion of the sticks was 20%) is a feasible method to control A. germari (Hope) larvae in triploid P. tomentosa of pulpwood trees. Because there were no statistically significant differences (p 〉 0.05) among the three treatments, we recommend that T1 should be used for economic efficacy. 展开更多

Objective: To study the biomechanical mechanism of head injuries beaten with sticks, which is common in the battery or assaultive cases. Methods: In this study, the Hybrid-III anthropomorphic test device and finite element model (FEM) of the total human model for safety (THUMS) head were used to determine the biomechanical response of head while being beaten with different sticks. Total eight Hybrid-III tests and four finite element simulations were conducted. The contact force, resultant acceleration of head center of gravity, intracranial pressure and von Mises stress were calculated to determine the different biomechanical behavior of head with beaten by different sticks. Results: In Hybrid-III tests, the stick in each group demonstrated the similar kinematic behavior under the same loading condition. The peak values of the resultant acceleration for thick iron stick group, thin iron stick group, thick wooden stick group and thin wooden stick group were 203.4 g, 221.1 g, 170.5 g and 122.2 g respectively. In finite element simulations, positive intracranial pressure was initially observed in the frontal comparing with negative intracranial pressure in the contra-coup site. Subsequently the intracranial pressure in the coup site was decreasing toward negative value while the contra-coup intracranial pressure increasing toward positive values. Conclusions: The results illustrated that the stiffer and larger the stick was, the higher the von Mises stress, contact force and intracranial pressure were. We believed that the results in the Hybrid-III tests and THUMS head simulations for brain injury beaten with sticks could be reliable and useful for better understanding the injury mechanism. 展开更多

The sticking behavior of pellets affects the continuity of production in hydrogen-based shaft furnace. The coupling influences of V_(2)O_(5) and reduction temperature on reduction sticking behavior and mechanism evolution of pellets under hydrogen atmosphere are investigated. The increase in V_(2)O_(5) addition aggravated the reduction sticking behavior, which is attributed to the combined functions of the development of unique interwoven structure in the metallic iron interconnections at the reduction sticking interface and the deterioration of reduction swelling behavior of pellets. In addition, the strength of metallic iron interconnections enhanced and reduction sticking behavior aggravated with the increase in reduction temperature.Importantly, compared to other reduction temperatures, the reduction sticking behavior of pellets was most significantly aggravated with the increase in V_(2)O_(5) addition at 1000℃.And the values of sticking index increased from 10.22%to 15.36% as the V_(2)O_(5) addition increased from 0 to 1.00 wt.%at 1000℃. 展开更多

Primary challenges with a forest inventory program are surveyors with various levels of experience and the turnover of inexperienced surveyors.Few studies have looked at the consistency of an instrument’s results among inexperienced surveyors. Most studies have assessed whether instruments were significantly different. These tests do not indicate whether instruments were statistically equivalent,i.e.,that choosing either one would be acceptable under a certain level of tolerance. This study evaluated the consistency and statistical equivalence among instruments for measuring diameter at breast height(DBH)and for total tree height(HT)among inexperienced surveyors. The study was conducted as a randomized experiment with students from an introductory tree measurement course, using four types of DBH and HT instruments, and with different tree attributes. For DBH,the results show that D-tape was the most consistent across tree attributes and teams of inexperienced surveyors and was only statistically interchangeable with Caliper with a tolerance≥3 cm.For HT,Ultrasound was the most consistent but only statistically interchangeable with Laser with a tolerance≥8 m.A single type of instrument for measuring DBH and for HT is recommended, especially when field crews may be a mixture of experienced and inexperienced surveyors. Our study provides initial recommendations on the choice of instruments when either purchasing new ones or replacing old ones in forest inventories. 展开更多

Direct reduction based on hydrogen metallurgical gas-based shaft furnace is a promising technology for the efficient and low-carbon smelting of vanadium-titanium magnetite. However,in this process, the sticking of pellets occurs due to the aggregation of metal-lic iron between the contact surfaces of adjacent pellets and has a serious negative effect on the continuous operation. This paper presents a detailed experimental study of the effect of TiO2 on the sticking behavior of pellets during direct reduction under different conditions. Results showed that the sticking index(SI)decreased linearly with the increasing TiO2 addition. This phenomenon can be attributed to the increase in unreduced FeTiO3 during reduction, leading to a decrease in the number and strength of metallic iron interconnections at the sticking interface. When the TiO2 addition amount was raised from 0 to 15wt%at 1100°C,the SI also increased from 0.71%to 59.91%.The connection of the slag phase could be attributed to the sticking at a low reduction temperature, corresponding to the low sticking strength. Moreover, the interconnection of metallic iron became the dominant factor, and the SI increased sharply with the increase in re-duction temperature.TiO2 had a greater effect on SI at a high reduction temperature than at a low reduction temperature. 展开更多

Thermal-force driving of roll profile electromagnetic control technology(RPECT),which can be used to adjust the roll profile, can be affected by the sequential temperature rise between the electromagnetic stick(ES)and electromagnetic control roll.Due to the limited space of ES and induction coil, the cross-sectional area of induction coil can be inevitably affected by changing the size of the ES induction zone, which can further change the energy input under the same electromagnetic parameters, the temperature rising effect and the bulging ability. To investigate this phenomenon, the effects of the radius of the induction zone on the thermal-force contribution ratio, the heating ability of ES and the temperature distribution were analyzed through an electromagnetic-thermal-structural finite element model. To ensure that the results are applicable to RPECT,the thermal energy conversion ability and thermal-force roll crown control ability under different lengths of the induction zone were analyzed. It was found that whether the current density regulation mode or the current frequency regulation mode is adopted, the cases with 20 or 25 mm radius of the induction zone have the great thermal energy conversion ability and the good thermal-force roll crown control ability. The reasonable adjustment of the length of the induction zone can reduce the radius required for the maximum energy efficiency regulation.Combined with the results of the simulation analysis, the optimization of ES based on the control ability maximization requirement is achieved, which provides the base for the design and configuration of ES in RPECT. 展开更多

Purpose: Needle-stick injury (NSI) is one of the most potential occupational hazards for healthcare workers because of the transmission of blood-borne pathogens. As per recent data, around 30 lakh healthcare workers sustain Needle stick injuries each year. This study was conducted to assess healthcare workers’ knowledge, attitude and practices regarding needle stick injury. Materials & Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a Tertiary Care Hospital over the period of 3 months. The study population consisted of Intern Doctors, Post Graduate resident Doctors, Staff Nurses, laboratory technicians of Government Medical College and New Civil Hospital, Surat (n = 300). The data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire via the means of Google Forms. Questionnaire was made with prior review literature. The data obtained were entered and analysed in Microsoft Excel. Results: The prevalence of NSI in our study was 46%, with a higher prevalence among the PG residents (72%). Overall scores regarding knowledge and attitude were better in PG residents (knowledge score > 7 in 71% and Attitude Score > 7 in 68% of PG Residents). Even though the PG residents scored highest in the knowledge category, the majority of them suffered needle stick injuries as a result of poor practice scores. Among those who had NSI (n = 139/300), 70% of study participants had superficial injuries, only 9% reported the incident, 18% got medical attention within 2 hours of the incident, and 7% followed up to recheck their viral markers status. Most incidents of NSI were due to hypodermic needles while recapping needles. Conclusion: Exposure to needle stick injuries and their underreporting remains a common problem. It is imperative that healthcare workers receive regular training on the proper handling of sharp objects. We can also draw the conclusion that preventing NSIs requires putting knowledge into practice. 展开更多

Introduction: Healthcare workers in Mogadishu, Somalia face significant occupational injury risks, particularly needle stick injuries, with 61.1% reporting incidents. This poses a serious threat to their health, leading to infections such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV. Despite the high prevalence of injuries, awareness of Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) accessibility is relatively high, with 84.0% of respondents aware of it. However, there are gaps in knowledge and implementation, as evidenced by variations in availability of PEP. Improving workplace safety measures, providing comprehensive training on injury prevention and PEP protocols, and ensuring consistent availability of PEP in healthcare facilities are crucial steps to safeguard the well-being of healthcare workers in Mogadishu, Somalia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among hospital workers in Mogadishu, Somalia, focusing on professionals from various healthcare facilities. The study targeted nurses, doctors, laboratory personnel, and pharmacists. Purposive sampling was employed, resulting in a sample size of 383 calculated using Fisher’s sample size formula. Data were collected using coded questionnaires entered into Microsoft Excel 2019 and analyzed with SPSS software to generate frequencies and proportions, presented through frequency tables and pie figures. Results: The study in Mogadishu, Somalia, examined the prevalence of occupational injuries and knowledge of Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) accessibility among healthcare workers. Findings indicate a high prevalence of injuries, with 61.1% reporting incidents, predominantly needle stick injuries (60.6%). Despite the majority seeking prompt medical attention (72.0%), work-related illnesses affected 53.2% of respondents, notably work-related stress (59.5%). While most received training on injury and illness prevention (68.9%), gaps exist in PEP awareness, with 16.0% unaware of it. Nonetheless, 84.0% were aware, predominantly through health facilities (52.0%). Availability of PEP was reported by 71.3% in healthcare facilities, with variations in shift availability. The majority reported guidelines for PEP use (55.7%). Efforts are needed to bolster PEP awareness and ensure consistent availability in healthcare facilities to safeguard worker health. Conclusion: High prevalence of occupational injuries among healthcare workers, with needle stick injuries being the most common (60.6%). Despite this, 84.0% of respondents were aware of Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), primarily learning about it from health facilities (52.0%). While 71.3% reported the availability of PEP in their facility, 28.7% noted its unavailability. These results emphasize the need for improved education and accessibility of PEP to mitigate occupational injury risks. 展开更多
