The influences of the thickness and the strength of the high strength steel on mechanical and fatigue performances were investigated based on the tensile and F-N curves of the joints. The results show that mechanical and fatigue properties of the shear self-piercing riveted joints are much better than those of the tensile self-piercing riveted joints. Mechanical and fatigue performances of the two joints were significantly influenced by the thickness and strength of the steel sheet, and were markedly improved when the thickness of steel sheet increased. The steel strength showed significantly different effects on shear and tensile riveted structures, i. e. , when the steel strength increased, the strength of the shear structure greatly increased while the tensile structure just had a slight increase in the strength. Fatigue failure generally occurred in the sheet materials and the fatigue crack location changed with increasing the sheet thickness and the sheet strength.展开更多

The effect of chromium content on the S450 EW weathering steel in cyclic immersion test was studied. The results indicated that the corrosion resistance of S450 EW weathering steel is closely related to chromium content. The addition of chromium significantly inhibited the weathering steel corrosion. The corrosion rate of experimental steel after 96 h immersion was 1.101 g·m-2·h-1. The rust of S450 EW weathering steel was mainly constituted of Fe OOH and Fe3O4 phase, and the elevation of chromium content promoted the formation of α-Fe OOH. The fine precipitates of the two phases contributed to the formation of dense dust layer of test steel. Furthermore, the increase of chromium is beneficial for the cure of original defects and cracks of the rust layer via the enrichment of chromium. The corrosion potential and the resistance of corrosion process were thus increased, protecting the experimental steel from further corrosion. A S450 EW steel with corrosion resistance more than 1.5 times of Q450NQR1 steel was prepared.展开更多

The true stress-true strain curves of DP steel sheets for different loading ratios were obtained, and the experimental yield loci were determined based on the equivalent plastic work principle. The experimental yield loci were compared to the theoretical yield loci based on Hi1148, Hi1190, Hi1193, Hosford, Barlat89, Yld2000-2d and Gotoh yield criteria. It is found that Yld2000-2d yield criterion can describe the general trends of experimental yield loci of DP steel sheets with comparably higher accuracy. Hosford criterion has the maximum error for DP590, whereas Hi1148 and Barlat89 have the maximum errors for DP780 and DP980.展开更多

The localized corrosion was accurately characterized by SKP in both coated and uncoated regions. The SKP results showed that Volta potential varied with the test time, and the more the corrosion products, the more positive the potential. The borderline between coated and uncoated regions of partly coated steel shifted towards the coated side with the increasing of test time. The coating disbonding rate could be determined according to the shift of potential borderline measured by SKP. The corrosion mechanism of partly coated steel in NaCl salt spray was discussed according to the potential maps and corrosion morphologies.展开更多

Fracture mechanisms were also analyzed based on the relationship between microstructure transformation and continuous cooling transformation(CCT) curves. It is found that 1) fractures of the investigated steel at high temperatures are dimple fractures; 2) the deformation of high-strength boron steel at high temperatures accelerates diffusion transformations; thus, to obtain full martensite, a higher cooling rate is needed; and 3) the investigated steel has the best plasticity when the deformation temperature is 750 °C.展开更多

Q235B steel, which is conventionally applied to commercial vehicle wheels, was also analyzed for comparison. Although the chemical composition and microstructure (ferrite and pearlite) of newly developed wheel steel were similar to those of Q235B, the 107 cycles fatigue limit of the new wheel steel was 260 MPa, which is 24% higher than that of Q235B (210 MPa). The improvement of the fatigue strength of the new wheel steel can be attributed to grain refinement. In order to investigate the effect of the decrease in thickness of the wheel steel on the fatigue property of the wheel, dynamic cornering fatigue tests were conducted on full scale wheels with the model of 8.25 × 22.5. The results indicated that the newly developed wheel steel had outstanding fatigue life even if the mass loss was 10% in comparison with Q235B.展开更多

The experimental results show that the SCC sensitivity index is the highest when the strain rate is 2×10-6, and the medium corrosion is the main reason resulting in the highest SCC sensitivity index. The SCC sensitivity index is the least when the strain rate is 5×10-6, and the stress is the main reason resulting in the stress corrosion. The SCC sensitivity index is the middle when the strain rate is 9×10-6, the interaction of stress and medium is the stress corrosion fracture mechanism.展开更多

Moreover, the mechanism was investigated using the mass loss method, polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS), stereology microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS). The results show that M152 steel suffers severe corrosion, especially pitting corrosion, in a high-salt-spray environment. In the early stage of the experiment, the color of the corrosion products was mainly orange. The products then gradually evolved into a dense, brown substance, which coincided with a decrease of corrosion rate. Correspondingly, the EIS spectrum of M152 in the late test also exhibited three time constants and presented Warburg impedance at low frequencies.展开更多
