An Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is a new system developed for the betterment of user in traffic and transport management domain area for smart and safe driving. ITS subsystems are Emergency vehicle notification systems, Automatic road enforcement, Collision avoidance systems, Automatic parking, Map database management, etc. Advance Driver Assists System (ADAS) belongs to ITS which provides alert or warning or information to the user during driving. The proposed method uses Gaussian filtering and Median filtering to remove noise in the image. Subsequently image subtraction is achieved by subtracting Median filtered image from Gaussian filtered image. The resultant image is converted to binary image and the regions are analyzed using connected component approach. The prior work on speed bump detection is achieved using sensors which are failed to detect speed bumps that are constructed with small height and the detection rate is affected due to erroneous identification. And the smartphone and accelerometer methodologies are not perfectly suitable for real time scenario due to GPS error, network overload, real-time delay, accuracy and battery running out. The proposed system goes very well for the roads which are constructed with proper painting irrespective of their dimension. 展开更多

Rapid and high-precision speed bump detection is critical for autonomous driving and road safety, yet it faces challenges from non-standard appearances and complex environments. To address this issue, this study proposes a you only look once(YOLO)algorithm for speed bump detection(SPD-YOLO),a lightweight model based on YOLO11s that integrates three core innova-tive modules to balance detection precision and computational efficiency:it replaces YOLO11s’original backbone with StarNet,which uses‘star operations’to map features into high-dimensional nonlinear spaces for enhanced feature representation while maintaining computational efficiency;its neck incorporates context feature calibration(CFC)and spatial feature calibration(SFC)to improve detection performance without significant computational overhead;and its detection head adopts a lightweight shared convolutional detection(LSCD)structure combined with GroupNorm, minimizing computational complexity while preserving multi-scale feature fusion efficacy.Experi-ments on a custom speed bump dataset show SPD-YOLO achieves a mean average precision(mAP)of 79.9%,surpassing YOLO11s by 1.3%and YOLO12s by 1.2%while reducing parameters by 26.3%and floating-point operations per second(FLOPs)by 29.5%,enabling real-time deploy-ment on resource-constrained platforms. 展开更多

Microplastic content was analyzed in road dust, soils alongside roads and stormwater run-offs in Al Ain City, Abu Dhabi. Apart from tire wear material, fibers and degradation products of meso- and macroplastics such as plastic bags and plastic bottle tops were found to be the most dominant plastic microparticles. Speed bumps and artificial turf/lawns were also evaluated as potential sources of microplastics on and alongside roads. It was found that in arid regions Aeolian transport of microplastics may be more important than transport by water. 展开更多
