Compared to tropical habitats, northern gibbon habitats are characterized by low temperatures and remarkable seasonal variation in fruit abundance How gibbons adapt to their cold and seasonal habitats and what ecological factors affect their sociality are key questions for understanding their ecology and social system evolution, the elucidation of which will contribute to the conservation of these special populations/species. According to preliminary short-term studies, northern gibbons consume more leaves and use larger home ranges than tropical gibbons. Interestingly, some Nomascus groups consist of more than one adult female. However, these preliminary results are not well understood or incorporated into current socio-ecological theories regarding gibbon species. To better understand northern gibbons, our team has systematically studied three habituated groups of Nomascus concolor, three groups of N. nasutus, and two habituated groups of Hoolock tianxing since 2002. In this paper, we stress the challenges facing gibbons living in northern habitats and summarize their behavioral adaptations to their harsh environments. We also describe the northern gibbon social system and discuss the potential relationships between their ecology and sociality. Finally, we highlight future research questions related to northern gibbons in China.展开更多

The agents are integrated in the form of a cyber-physical-social system(CPSS) through a shared communication platform to create a social ecology. In the ecology, the agents collaborate(assist each other) to perform a real-world task(search for a hidden object)for the benefits of humans. A robot-virtual human bilateral trust model is derived and a real-time trust measurement method is developed. The role of taking initiative in the collaboration is switched between the agents following a finite state machine model triggered by bilateral trust, which results in a mixedinitiative collaboration. A scheme is developed to evaluate the performance of the agents in the ecology through the CPSS.The results show that the robot and the virtual human perform satisfactorily in the collaboration through the CPSS. The results thus prove the effectiveness of the real-world ecology between artificial agents of heterogeneous realities through a shared platform based on trust-triggered mixed-initiatives. The results can help develop adaptive social ecology comprising intelligent agents of heterogeneous realities to assist humans in various tasks through collaboration between the agents in the form of a CPSS.展开更多

文摘1.Drylands face significant challenges under global change Drylands cover approximately 41%of Earth's terrestrial surface and support about 38%of the global population. They comprise a variety of biomes, and provide essential resources and ecosystem services for humans such as mineral resources, food, livestock products, sand stabilization, and soil and water conservation(Li et al.,2021).However,drylands are characterized by water limitation, and are highly sensitive to global change(Prăvălie et al.,2016).
文摘Earth is moving through a period of extreme uncertainty as global climates change, natural disasters become more frequent and severe, and governments grapple with the difficulty these issues pose for managing natural resources and people.Nowhere are these challenges more pressing than across the world's drylands, where a combination of hotter drier climates challenge food security, sustainable food production and often fuel unrest and political instability. It is against this backdrop that Fu and Stafford Smith, two global leaders in dryland science draw on>80 years of collective wisdom on drylands to describe how humans and natural processes intersect in an era of global change(Fu and Stafford Smith,2024).

文摘Social governance provides innovative directions for the development of higher education.Based on the integration of higher education and social governance, this study demonstrates the role of College Ideological and Political Courses in advancing social governance.Specifically,it elaborates on three dimensions:the mission of ideological and political education in social governance, its significance in this context, and its value orientation in reflecting the principle of comprehensively governing the country by law.Building on this foundation, the study analyzes the existing shortcomings in the construction of College Ideological and Political Courses.A systematic optimization pathway is proposed, encompassing five aspects:consolidating the foundation for integrating ideological and political education into social governance, driving the evolution of development philosophies to align with contemporary needs, innovating teaching models, strengthening the professional development of faculty teams, and promoting multidimensional advancement of ideological and political education.
文摘Objectives:Recently, the global esports industry has experienced remarkable growth, leading to an expansion in the scale and influence of professional player communities. However, despite this outward growth, systems to protect players’mental health remain inadequate.Comprehensive analysis of structural risk factors, including performance pressure, public evaluation, and career instability, remains insufficient. This study, aimed to explore stressors encountered by esports athletes, coping strategies, and the role of social support systems in safeguarding mental health.Using the transactional model of stress and coping, the job demands–resources model, and social support theory, the study adopts an integrated perspective to examine challenges faced by athletes in the competitive esports environment. Methods:A qualitative case study was conducted involving in-depth interviews and nonparticipant observations with 11 esports athletes who competed at national or international levels,as well as two team managers.Thematic analysis identified recurring patterns in the data, and credibility was ensured through triangulation and cross-review among researchers. Results:Esports athletes experience multiple interacting stressors, including performance demands, emotional strain duringmatches, and continuous evaluation on socialmedia. In response, they employed coping strategies—problem-focused,emotion-focused,and avoidance-based,which provided temporary relief but often led to burnout and self-regulation failure owing to absence of support systems.Social support networks had ambivalent effects:while offering comfort, they also intensified pressure through negative feedback and high expectations from fans and online communities. Conclusion:The findings show that mental health issues among esports athletes are not only related to individual factors but are closely linked to performance-driven structures, competitive environments, and social relationships. This study integrates the transactional model of stress and coping, the JobDemands–Resourcesmodel, and social support theoryto provide comprehensive analysis. It also offers practical recommendations, including psychological counseling, emotional labor programs, and improved communication with families and fan communities.
