This study uses an acute observation of designers of technology and aesthetics to conduct a mental-model analysis of smartphones with the purpose of explicitly identifying the differences in the schemas of users. This study also modifies the mental model to evaluate the practicability of the mental model. Hence, this study investigates groups of subjects, comparing freshmen and graduating students froma college of design, and adopts a schematized data collection and analysis approach, Interactive Qualitative Analysis (IQA), to ascertain the relationships between factors and establish a complete user mental model. The study results present 11 primary affinity factors: “Pricing,” “Advertisement,” “User Interface,” “Innovation Functions,” “System Maintenance,” “Privacy,” “Utility Functions,” “Personalization,” “Network Performance,” “Customer Service,” and “Multimedia Contents.” The primary driver in evaluating smartphones is found to be “Pricing” for graduating students and “Privacy” for freshmen. The two groups share the same final effect factor, “Multimedia Contents.” This study has successfully identified differences between the different mental models of the two groups, supporting the method that using IQA to perform a quality evaluation of social networking for smartphones is effective. Consequently, platform developers can understand user demand through a mental model and can design good platform functions to effectively improve users’ experience of smartphones.展开更多

Cyworld was one of the most successful SNSs in the world, but its international expansion efforts failed. Facebook's open technology has had considerable influence on various sectors of the economy and society and allowed it to become a dominant SNS at the global level, whereas Cyworld has remained a local SNS. Facebook's open platform and application programming interface (API) pose a serious challenge to Cyworld's walled-garden approach. Cyworld is based on strong ties fostering close relationships, whereas Facebook expands social networks through its open and weak ties and has more network power than Cyworld. Therefore, openness is the main reason behind the rise of Facebook and the fall of Cyworld.展开更多

While most mobile systems benefit greatly from cloud services, centralized servers and communications infrastructure is not always available. Nor are location-based services offered to mobile devices without GPS. To take advantage of cloud and to address these problems, a Wi-Fi based multihop networking system called MoNet is proposed. On top of MONET we propose a privacy-aware geosocial networking service called WiFace. Where there is no infrastructure, a distributed content sharing protocol significantly shortens the relay path, reduces conflicts, and improves data availability. Furthermore, a security mechanism is developed to protect privacy. Comprehensive experiments performed on MoNet show that the system is more than sufficient to support social networking and even audio and video applications.展开更多

Since social networking sites represent one of the most significant tremendous development aspects of information technology, which reached its peak during the last decade, the researcher considered the importance of conducting this study in order to know the impact of social networking sites on the youth through Intemet, blogs and chat rooms, as well as attempting to confront them and making them aware of their importance in their daily lives. Accordingly, the study has focused on a random category of youth, whose ages are ranging between 17-21 years old of university students, as being the highest category of usage. Results revealed the following: A high percentage of Emirati youth 77.5% mentioned that they "always" use those sites; the percentage of males, who "always" use social media reached 38.5% while the percentage of females reached 61, since the meaningful value reached 0.05〉0.044, which indicated that WhatsApp, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook are the most commonly used social media by the study individuals. Most of the study individuals use the social networking sites daily 84%, and there are statistically significant differences between males and females in terms of the times of using social media. A high percentage of the Emirati youth uses Internet for more than three hours daily; especially in the evenings, and there are not statistically significant differences between males and females in terms of the most common periods in which social media are used, and the most common age groups of using social media from one year and more range between 17-20. "Home" is the most favorite place of using social media (85.40% mentioned that). Most of the study individuals can make a balance between spending time on Internet and spending time with people outside the world of Internet. The percentage of those, who mentioned that social networking sites affected them positively, was higher than the percentage of the ones, who mentioned that the social media affected them negatively. Among the most prominent usages of social media by the Emirati youth are: staying informed about news and current events, while most of them focused on chatting, followed by sharing photos and images. Most of the sample of study mentioned that the youth are just readers, who comment on what is shared and posted on the social media. The most prominent motives of the Emirati youth for using social media are represented in obtaining information, and communicating with others, which came on top of the motives relevant to the usage of social media, followed by entertainment, education, followed by various motives, including routine etc. Some of the most significant satisfactions achieved through using the social networking sites by the Emirati youth are entertainment and spending leisure time with others.展开更多

A network or a partnership is identified as a "structural" form of social capital and a tool to empower participants in the networks. There is a belief that social networks can be initiated or created at every level of social capital, from micro to macro. However, the concept of community is the key component of social capital, creating both physical ties (geographical locality) and normative behaviours (sense of belonging). Therefore, this study is intended to enhance social capital at the community or micro-level, in order to sustain tourism development in those areas, and networking is initiated to enhance social capital. Participatory Action Research (PAR) was applied to tourism development in Kon Kaen Province. Tools and techniques used during this study included: observations, preliminary meetings, community meetings, tourism audits, workshops, and network meetings. Eleven districts in Khon Kaen were actively involved in the planning process.展开更多

Some of the most significant satisfactions achieved through using the social networking sites by the Emirati youth are entertainment and spending leisure time with others.
文摘The rapid development of the internet has led to the rise of social networking sites, which have impacted the psychological health and social adaptation of college students.Existing research shows that the intensity and patterns of social networking site use are closely related to adolescents’core self-evaluations,with perceived social support playing a mediating role in this relationship. This study, based on a questionnaire survey of 231 college students with an average age of 19.5,reveals the intrinsic connection between social networking site use and core self-evaluations.The findings indicate that the intensity and pattern of use significantly affect self-evaluations,and perceived social support partially mediates this relationship.
文摘The rapid growth of the usage of social networking sites over the past few years has drawn attention to research about their various effects on the cognition and personality of individuals.Much research has been conducted to determine how habitual usage leads to addiction and has a tremendous impact on academic performance,self-identity,social behaviour, body image, and interpersonal relationships. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the global scientific production on social networking sites in the field of psychology using bibliometric analysis.Herein, this study aimed to summarize the current characteristics, explore research trends, and identify potential future directions.Bibliometric analysis was conducted on 2444 documents retrieved from the Scopus database between 2013 and 2023.Performance analysis and science mapping were conducted using Biblioshiny and VOSviewer. The findings highlight publication patterns, including the most frequently cited articles, influential authors, countries, and most productive journals.Science mapping using co-citations and keyword co-occurrence revealed the intellectual structure of the field of social networking sites. The construction of the network map revealed interesting patterns and themes. The study contributes to a better understanding of the evolution and current state of the research on social networking sites globally.
文摘Based on an ethnographic study on two cohorts of teachers and parents in China, this article reveals that social networking sites(SNS)have widened the channel for parents and teachers to establish and maintain a relationship, and has formed an online“community of practice”to promote such collaborations.Yet,this could be accomplished only at the expense of teachers’professional and personal boundaries becoming increasingly blurred, which has emerged as a potential risk for their professionalism. Moreover, such a“community of practice”has also opened up a new space for winning or losing at the educational game for parents from different background, which has inadvertently led to widening the arena for the operation of old mechanisms of social inequality. This study suggests that further investigation should be conducted to examine the potential of SNS in the parent−teacher relationship.

文摘Objectives:SocialNetworkAddiction(SNA)is becoming increasingly prevalent among college students;however, there remains a lack of consensus regarding the measurement tools and their optimal cutoff score. This study aims to validate the 21-item SocialNetwork Addiction Scale-Chinese(SNAS-C)in its Chinese version and to determine its optimal cutoff score for identifying potential SNA cases within the college student population. Methods:A crosssectional survey was conducted, recruiting 3387 college students.Latent profile analysis(LPA)and receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis were employed to establish the optimal cutoff score for the validated 21-item SNAS-C.Results:Three profile models were selected based on multiple statistical criteria, classifying participants into low-risk,moderate-risk,and high-risk groups. The highest-risk group was defined as“positive”for SNA,while the remaining groups were considered“negative”,serving as the reference standard for ROC analysis. The optimal cutoff score was determined to be 72(sensitivity:98.2%,specificity:96.86%),with an overall classification accuracy of 97.0%.The“positive”group reported significantly higher frequency of social network usage, greater digitalmedia dependence scores, and a higher incidence of network addiction. Conclusion:This study identified the optimal cutoff score for the SNAS-C as≥72,demonstrating high sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic accuracy. This threshold effectively distinguishes between high-risk and low-risk SNA.
文摘Social capital has been recognised as a factor affecting sustainable development in every discipline. Eleven districts in Khon Kaen were actively involved in the planning process.
文摘The social sphere enters into dialectics with traditional media:news and narratives, comments and criticisms bounce from one side to the other. From this point of view, the TV of talk and infotainment is an emblematic case. The rich diffusion of the new digital channels, the consolidation of satellite television, but also the explosion of on demand content, have urged the player market to exercise hybrid solutions for enriching and integrating the television offer, appealing to the potential given by the web.The television networks-being aware of the re-determination of the medium-combine and integrate new engagment models and strategies with the offer of con-tents and the programming strategies typical of generalist television. The television networks-being aware of the re-determination of the medium-combine and integrate new engagment models and strategies with the of-fer of contents nd the programming strategies typical of generalist television.
