In this paper,we present a circuit model of single-quantum-well InGaN/GaN light-emitting diodes based on the standard rate equations.Two rate equations describe carrier transport processes occurring in sep-arate confinement heterostructure and quantum well respectively,and the third equation describes the varied photons in quantum well.By using the presented model,impacts of quantum well thickness on the static and dynamic performances are investigated.Simulated results show that LED with 4 nm well exhibits better lightcurrent(L-I)performance,but LED with 3 nm well presents wider 3 dB modulation bandwidth.It reveals that high carrier density in quantum well is detrimental to the static performance,but beneficial to the dynamic performance. 展开更多

Advancing pediatric cancer diagnosis: the promise of single-cell liquid biopsy for early detection and surveillance

Pediatric cancers are particularly significant due to their uncommon occurrence in children,driven by a variety of underlying factors.Because of their distinct molecular and genetic makeup,which makes early detection challenging,they are linked to problems.Diagnostic methods like imaging and tissue biopsy are only effective when the tumor has reached a size that can be identified.The liquid biopsy technique,the least intrusive and most convenient diagnostic method,is the subject of this review.It focuses on the significance of single cell analysis in examining uncommon cancer types.The many biomarkers found in bodily fluids and the cancer types they are linked to in children have been assessed,as has the potential route towards early detection and cancer recurrence forecasting.Combining the single cell liquid biopsy with the newest technologies,such as computational and multi-omics approaches,which have improved the efficiency of processing massive and unique genetic data,appears promising.This article discusses on a number of case reports for uncommon pediatric malignancies,such as Neuroblastoma,Medulloblastoma,Wilms Tumor,Rhabdomyosarcoma,Ewing Sarcoma,and Retinoblastoma,as well as their liquid biopsy profiles.Furthermore,the findings raise ethical questions regarding the therapeutic application of the technology as well as possible difficulties related to clinical translation.The likelihood that this single cell liquid biopsy will be clinically validated and eventually used as a routine diagnostic tool for uncommon pediatric cancers will rise with the realistic approach to sensitivity monitoring,specificity upgrading,and optimization. 展开更多

The single electron capture processes in Si^(3,4+)+He collisions have been investigated theoretically employing the two-center atomic orbital close-coupling method in the energy range 0.01-100 keV/u.Total and state-selective electron capture cross sections for the dominant and subdominant reaction channels are calculated and compared with the available experimental and theoretical data.For the total charge transfer cross sections,the present results show better agreements with the available experimental data than the other theoretical ones in the overlapping energy region for both collision systems.For the state-selective cross sections,the present results for 3s and 3p states are in general agreement with the previous MOCC results in the low energy region for both collision systems.Furthermore,the cross sections for electron captured to the 3d,4l and 5l(l=0,1,...,n-1)states of Si^(2+)and Si^(3+)ions are first provided in a broad energy region in our work.These results are useful for the investigations in astrophysics.The datasets presented in this paper,including the total and state-selective electron capture cross sections of Si^(3,4+)+He collisions in 0.01-100 ke V/u,are openly available at https://doi.org/10.57760/sciencedb.j00113.00257. 展开更多

High-performance fiber fabrics and composites experienced transverse compression deformation at ultrahigh strain rates near the impact point when subjected to high-velocity impacts,which significantly affected their ballistic limits.In this paper,a fiber-scale experimental method for characterizing ultrahigh strain-rate transverse compression behavior was proposed.To begin with,in order to measure the extremely low stress and strain in small specimens,the conventional Hopkinson bar was reduced to the hundred-micron scale,thereby achieving wave impedance matching with single fibers.In addition,tangential and normal laser Doppler velocimetry(LDV)methods were employed to realize non-contact,high-precision,and high-speed axial velocity measurements of micron-scale incident and transmission bars,respectively.Meanwhile,a microscopic observation system was used to facilitate the installation of miniature fiber samples.The experimental setup and procedures were introduced,and the system accuracy was verified through sample-free loading tests based on one-dimensional stress wave propagation theory.Dynamic compression experiments on Graphene-UHMWPE fibers were carried out,followed by post-compression microstructural characterization via scanning electron microscopy(SEM).Results demonstrated that successful mechanical characterization was achieved at strain rates exceeding 105,an order of magnitude higher than the previously reported maximum rates.Furthermore,during the loading process,the fibers underwent uniform compression deformation while exhibiting pronounced strain-rate effects.This method offers a novel approach for dynamic mechanical characterization of microscale single fibers,enabling the development of comprehensive strain-ratedependent material models to guide the design of advanced composites and high-performance fibers. 展开更多

A single-cell landscape of the regenerating spinal cord of zebrafish

Unlike mammals,zebrafish possess a remarkable ability to regenerate their spinal cord after injury,making them an ideal vertebrate model for studying regeneration.While previous research has identified key cell types involved in this process,the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms remain largely unexplored.In this study,we used single-cell RNA sequencing to profile distinct cell populations at different stages of spinal cord injury in zebrafish.Our analysis revealed that multiple subpopulations of neurons showed persistent activation of genes associated with axonal regeneration post injury,while molecular signals promoting growth cone collapse were inhibited.Radial glial cells exhibited significant proliferation and differentiation potential post injury,indicating their intrinsic roles in promoting neurogenesis and axonal regeneration,respectively.Additionally,we found that inflammatory factors rapidly decreased in the early stages following spinal cord injury,creating a microenvironment permissive for tissue repair and regeneration.Furthermore,oligodendrocytes lost maturity markers while exhibiting increased proliferation following injury.These findings demonstrated that the rapid and orderly regulation of inflammation,as well as the efficient proliferation and redifferentiation of new neurons and glial cells,enabled zebrafish to reconstruct the spinal cord.This research provides new insights into the cellular transitions and molecular programs that drive spinal cord regeneration,offering promising avenues for future research and therapeutic strategies. 展开更多

Temperature-dependent resistivity,upper critical field H_(c2)and its anisotropy in overdoped superconducting Ba_(1-x)K_x Fe_2As_2(x=0.6-1)single crystals have been measured in steady magnetic fields up to 44 T and low temperatures down to 0.4 K.Analysis using both the quadratic term and power-law fitting demonstrates that the in-plane resistivityρ_(ab)(T)progressively approaches the Fermi-liquid T~2behavior with increasing K doping and reaches a saturation plateau at x≈0.8.The temperature dependence of both H_(c2)^(ab)and H^(c)_(c2)follows the Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg model,incorporating orbital and spin paramagnetic effects.For x≤0.8,the orbital effect dominates for H ab,while the Pauli paramagnetic effect prevails for H c.For x>0.8,the Pauli paramagnetic effect becomes dominant in both crystallographic directions.The anisotropy of H_(c2)(0)exhibits a discontinuity in its dependence on K doping concentration with a significant enhancement at x=0.8 and a maximum at x=0.9.These experimental results indicate that the electron correlation effect is enhanced in the heavily overdoped Ba_(1-x)K_(x)Fe_(2)As_(2)system where the underlying symmetries are broken due to the Fermi surface reconstruction before x=0.9. 展开更多

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is the most common form of dementia.In addition to the lack of effective treatments,there are limitations in diagnostic capabilities.The complexity of AD itself,together with a variety of other diseases often observed in a patient’s history in addition to their AD diagnosis,make deciphering the molecular mechanisms that underlie AD,even more important.Large datasets of single-cell RNA sequencing,single-nucleus RNA-sequencing(snRNA-seq),and spatial transcriptomics(ST)have become essential in guiding and supporting new investigations into the cellular and regional susceptibility of AD.However,with unique technology,software,and larger databases emerging;a lack of integration of these data can contribute to ineffective use of valuable knowledge.Importantly,there was no specialized database that concentrates on ST in AD that offers comprehensive differential analyses under various conditions,such as sex-specific,region-specific,and comparisons between AD and control groups until the new Single-cell and Spatial RNA-seq databasE for Alzheimer’s Disease(ssREAD)database(Wang et al.,2024)was introduced to meet the scientific community’s growing demand for comprehensive,integrated,and accessible data analysis. 展开更多

The development of quantum materials for single-photon emission is crucial for the advancement of quantum information technology.Although significant advancements have been witnessed in recent years for single-photon sources in the near-infrared band(λ∼700–1000 nm),several challenges have yet to be addressed for ideal single-photon emission at the telecommunication band.In this study,we present a droplet-epitaxy strategy for O-band to C-band single-photon source-based semiconductor quantum dots(QDs)using metal-organic vaporphase epitaxy(MOVPE).By investigating the growth conditions of the epitaxial process,we have successfully synthesized InAs/InP QDs with narrow emission lines spanning a broad spectral range of λ∼1200–1600 nm.The morphological and optical properties of the samples were characterized using atomic force microscopy and microphotoluminescence spectroscopy.The recorded single-photon purity of a plain QD structure reaches g^((2))(0)=0.16,with a radiative recombination lifetime as short as 1.5 ns.This work provides a crucial platform for future research on integrated microcavity enhancement techniques and coupled QDs with other quantum photonics in the telecom bands,offering significant prospects for quantum network applications. 展开更多

The single event effects(SEEs)evaluations caused by atmospheric neutrons were conducted on three different convolutional neural network(CNN)models(Yolov3,MNIST,and ResNet50)in the atmospheric neutron irradiation spectrometer(ANIS)at the China Spallation Neutron Source(CSNS).The Yolov3 and MNIST models were implemented on the XILINX28-nm system-on-chip(So C).Meanwhile,the Yolov3 and ResNet50 models were deployed on the XILINX 16-nm Fin FET Ultra Scale+MPSoC.The atmospheric neutron SEEs on the tested CNN systems were comprehensively evaluated from six aspects,including chip type,network architecture,deployment methods,inference time,datasets,and the position of the anchor boxes.The various types of SEE soft errors,SEE cross-sections,and their distribution were analyzed to explore the radiation sensitivities and rules of 28-nm and 16-nm SoC.The current research can provide the technology support of radiation-resistant design of CNN system for developing and applying high-reliability,long-lifespan domestic artificial intelligence chips. 展开更多

Comparative evaluation of single and multiple exposure to PM_(2.5)in respirable air on cardiac physiology,structure and function in a Wistar rat model

Many studies have shown the negative relationship between long term exposure to PM_(2.5)and cardiac dysfunction.Recently,studies have shown that even a single exposure of PM_(2.5)from air sample in permissible range can induce very mild cardiac pathological changes.In the present study,we revisited the toxic effect of PM_(2.5)on rat heart by adopting single and multiple exposure durations.FemaleWistar ratswere exposed to PM_(2.5)at a concentration of 250μg/m3 daily for 3 hr for single(1 day)and multiple(7,14,21 days)durations.The major pathological changes noted in 21 days exposed myocardium comprised of an elevated ST segment(the segment between the S wave and the T wave),development of cardiac fibrosis,hypertrophy,cardiac injury,tissue inflammation and declined cardiac function.With 14 days exposed heart,the electrocardiograms(ECG),data showed insignificantly declined heart rate and an increased QT(the time from the start of the Q wave to the end of the T wave)interval along with mild fibrosis,hypertrophy and lesser number of TUNEL positive cells.On the other hand,single-and 7-days exposure to PM_(2.5)did not impart any significant changes in the myocardium.To determine the reversibility potential of PM_(2.5)induced cardiotoxicity,a washout period of 24 hours was adopted and all observed changes in the myocardium were reversed till day 7,but not in 14-and 21-days exposed samples.Based on the above findings we concluded that PM_(2.5)associated cardiac dysfunction is the cumulative outcome of ineffective cardiac adaptive and repair process that accumulate additively over the time due to prolonged exposure durations. 展开更多

With the evolution of nickel-based single crystal superalloys,there is an increase in heavy elements such as Re and Ru.This has made solutal convection more pronounced during the directional solidification process,leading to solute redistribution and increasing the risk of casting defects such as low-angle grain boundaries.To avoid casting defects,downward directional solidification(DWS)method is adopted to eliminate solutal convection and change solute redistribution.However,there is currently no in-situ characterization or quantitative simulation studying the solute redistribution during DWS and upward directional solidification(UWS)processes.A multicomponent phase field simulation coupled with lattice Boltzmann method was employed to quantitatively investigate changes in dendrite morphology,solutal convection and deviation of dendrite tips from the perspective of solute redistribution during UWS and DWS processes.The simulation of microstructure agrees well with the experimental results.The mechanism that explains how solutal convection affects side branching behavior is depicted.A novel approach is introduced to characterize dendrite deviation,elucidating the reasons why defects are prone to occur under the influence of natural convection and solute redistribution. 展开更多

A series of Dy^(3+)/Er^(3+)co-doped LiYF4single crystals with enhanced broadband mid-infrared luminescence was successfully prepared using the Bridgman technique by introducing Lu^(3+)and Gd^(3+)ions.The impact of non-active Lu^(3+)and Gd^(3+)ions on the crystallographic structure and optical properties of the single crystal was examined through X-ray diffractions,Rietveld refinements,absorption spectra,emission spectra,and fluorescence decay curves.The 1.55μm near-infrared luminescence exhibits a monotonic decrease upon the introduction of Lu^(3+)and Gd^(3+)ions.In contrast,the mid-infrared(2.9μm)emission intensities in 0.5Dy^(3+)/0.5Er^(3+)/3.0Lu^(3+),0.5Dy^(3+)/0.5Er^(3+)/3.0Lu^(3+)/0.5Gd^(3+):LiYF4single crystals are dramatically enhanced,showing increases of 5.8 and 9.8 times,respectively,compared to the codoped samples.The maximum emission cross section of 2.9μm for the 0.5Dy^(3+)/0.5Er^(3+)/3.0Lu^(3+)/0.5Gd^(3+):LiYF4single crystal was calculated to be around 4.4×10^(-20)cm^(2),exhibiting a significant improvement.Several plausible reasons for the effects of Lu^(3+)/Gd^(3+)doping on luminescence are proposed.The competitive occupancy of Lu^(3+)/Gd^(3+)doped ions at the lattice sites of Y^(3+)ions leads to lattice disto rtion and alteration of the local crystal field symmetry due to the difference in ionic radii,promoting the breaking of 4f forbidden transitions for Dy^(3+)/Er^(3+)ions and enhancing the radiation transition between Dy^(3+)and Er^(3+)ions,meanwhile,the number of luminescent centers increased,which can be ascribed to the dissociation of possible[Er^(3+)-Er^(3+)]and[Dy^(3+)-Dy^(3+)]clusters,heightening energy transfer efficiency from Dy^(3+)to Er^(3+).The Dy^(3+)/Er^(3+)/Lu^(3+)/Gd^(3+)multi-doped LiYF4single crystal with broadened and enhanced 2.9μm emission spectrum is a promising potential material for advanced applications in MIR solid-state and broadband tunable lasers. 展开更多

A multichannel matching pursuit(MMP)algorithm is proposed to decompose the one-dimensional multichannel non-stationary magnetoencephalography(MEG)signal at a single-trial level.The single-channel matching pursuit(MP)linearly decomposes the signal into a set of Gabor atoms,which are adaptively chosen from an overcomplete dictionary with good time-frequency characters.The MMP is the extension of the MP,which represents multichannel signals using linear combination of Gabor atoms with the same occurrence,frequency,phase,and time width,but varying amplitude in all channels.The results demonstrate that the MMP can optimally reconstruct the original signal and automatically remove artifact noises.Moreover,the coherence between the 3D source reconstruction and the prior knowledge of psychology further suggests that the MMP is effective in MEG single-trial processing. 展开更多

Single-atom catalysts have been applied in many processes recently.The difference of their kinetic behavior compared to the traditional heterogeneous catalysts has not been extensively discussed yet.Herein a complete catalytic cycle of CH4 combustion assuming to be confined at isolated single sites of the Co3O4(110)surface is computationally compared with that on multi sites.The macroscopic kinetic behaviors of CH4 combustion on Co3O4(110)is systematically and quantitatively compared between those on the single site and multi sites utilizing kinetic Monte Carlo simulations upon the energetic information from the PBE+U calculation and statistic mechanics.The key factors governing the kinetics of CH4 combustion are disclosed for both the catalytic cycles respectively following the single-site and multi-site mechanisms.It is found that cooperation of multi active sites can promote the activity of complete CH4 combustions substantially in comparison to separated single-site catalyst whereas the confinement of active sites could regulate the selectivity of CH4 oxidation.The quantitative understanding of catalytic mechanism paves the way to improve the activity and selectivity for CH4 oxidation. 展开更多

The pharmacokinetics of morphine sulphate was studied in 10 Chinese healthy volunteers after a single oral dose. Blood samples were collected before and after administration of controlled release tablets (CRMS, 30 mg) and immediate release tablets (IRMS, 20 mg). The plasma concentration of morphine was determined by GC MS. The pharmacokinetic parameters of controlled release tablets and immediate release tablets were calculated∶ C max was 19.38±3.80 and 21.27±6.21 ng/ml, t max was 2.36 ±0.37 h and 0.56±0.16 h, t 1/2β was 3.53±0.87 and 3.03±0.74 h, AUC was 145.15±17.65 and 93.08±16.65 ng/ml, respectively. The steady state plasma concentration of morphine sulphate in cancer patients after multiple doses was achieved, C max of CRMS and IRMS was 27.43±0.33 ng/ml and 22.68±0.16 ng/ml, C min of CRMS and IRMS was 19.45±1.44 ng/ml and 18.14±0.49 ng/ml, respectively. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β)superfamily plays an important role in tumor progression and metastasis.Activin A receptor type 1C(ACVR1C)is a TGF-βtype I receptor that is involved in tumorigenesis through binding to dif-ferent ligands.AIM To evaluate the correlation between single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)of ACVR1C and susceptibility to esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)in Chinese Han population.METHODS In this hospital-based cohort study,1043 ESCC patients and 1143 healthy controls were enrolled.Five SNPs(rs4664229,rs4556933,rs77886248,rs77263459,rs6734630)of ACVR1C were assessed by the ligation detection reaction method.Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium test,genetic model analysis,stratified analysis,linkage disequi-librium test,and haplotype analysis were conducted.RESULTS Participants carrying ACVR1C rs4556933 GA mutant had significantly decreased risk of ESCC,and those with rs77886248 TA mutant were related with higher risk,especially in older male smokers.In the haplotype analysis,ACVR1C Trs4664229Ars4556933Trs77886248Crs77263459Ars6734630 increased risk of ESCC,while Trs4664229Grs4556933Trs77886248Crs77263459Ars6734630 was associated with lower susceptibility to ESCC.CONCLUSION ACVR1C rs4556933 and rs77886248 SNPs were associated with the susceptibility to ESCC,which could provide a potential target for early diagnosis and treatment of ESCC in Chinese Han population. 展开更多

It has always been controversial whether a single allergen performs better than multiple allergens in polysensitized patients during the allergen-specific immunotherapy. This study aimed to examine the clinical efficacy of single-allergen sublingual immunotherapy(SLIT) versus multi-allergen subcutaneous immunotherapy(SCIT) and to discover the change of the biomarker IL-4 after 1-year immunotherapy in polysensitized children aged 6–13 years with allergic rhinitis(AR) induced by house dust mites(HDMs). The AR polysensitized children(n=78) were randomly divided into two groups: SLIT group and SCIT group. Patients in the SLIT group sublingually received a single HDM extract and those in the SCIT group were subcutaneously given multiple-allergen extracts(HDM in combination with other clinically relevant allergen extracts). Before and 1 year after the allergen-specific immunotherapy(ASIT), the total nasal symptom scores(TNSS), total medication scores(TMS) and IL-4 levels in peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs) were compared respectively between the two groups. The results showed that the TNSS were greatly improved, and the TMS and IL-4 levels were significantly decreased after 1-year ASIT in both groups(SLIT group: P<0.001; SCIT group: P<0.001). There were no significant differences in any outcome measures between the two groups(for TNSS: P>0.05; for TMS: P>0.05; for IL-4 levels: P>0.05). It was concluded that the clinical efficacy of single-allergen SLIT is comparable with that of multi-allergen SCIT in 6–13-year-old children with HDM-induced AR. 展开更多

The high-cycle fatigue fracture characteristics and damage mechanism of nickel-based single crystal superalloys at 850℃ was investigated.The results indicate that high-cycle fatigue cracks in single crystal superalloys generally originate from defect locations on the subsurface or interior of the specimen at 850℃.Under the condition of stress ratio R=0.05,as the fatigue load decreases,the high-cycle fatigue life gradually increases.The high-cycle fatigue fracture is mainly characterized by octahedral slip mechanism.At high stress and low lifespan,the fracture exhibits single or multiple slip surface features.Some fractures originate along a vertical small plane and then propagate along the{111}slip surface.At low stress and high lifespan,the fracture surface tend to alternate and expand along multiple slip planes after originating from subsurface or internal sources,exhibiting characteristics of multiple slip planes.Through electron backscatter diffraction and transmission electron microscope analysis,there is obvious oxidation behavior on the surface of the high-cycle fatigue fracture,and the fracture section is composed of oxidation layer,distortion layer,and matrix layer from the outside to the inside.Among them,the main components of the oxidation layer are oxides of Ni and Co.The distortion layer is mainly distributed in the form of elongated or short rod-shaped oxides of Al,Ta,and W.The matrix layer is a single crystal layer.Crack initiation and propagation mechanism were obtained by systematical analysis of a large number of highcycle fatigue fractures.In addition,the stress ratio of 0.05 is closer to the vibration mode of turbine blades during actual service,providing effective guidance for the study of failure and fracture mechanisms of turbine blades. 展开更多
