Identity management has been ripe for disruption over the past few years due to recurring incidents of data breaches that have led to personal information leaks and identity theft.The rise of blockchain technology has...Identity management has been ripe for disruption over the past few years due to recurring incidents of data breaches that have led to personal information leaks and identity theft.The rise of blockchain technology has paved the way for the development of self-sovereign identity(SSI)—a new class of user-controlled resilient identity management systems that are enabled by distributed ledger technology.This paper examines how SSI management can be used in a public transportation sector that spans different operators in multiple countries.Specifically,the paper explores how a blockchain-based decentralized identity management system can draw on the SSI framework to provide high-level security and transparency for all involved parties in public transportation ecosystems.Accordingly,building on analyses of the existing public transportation ticketing solutions,we elicited requirements of a comparable system based on the SSI principles.Next,we developed a low-fidelity prototype to showcase how passengers can utilize standardized travel credentials that are valid across different transportation networks in Europe.The proposed system eliminates the need for multiple travel cards(i.e.,one for each transportation provider)and empowers individuals to have better control over the use of their identities while they utilize interoperable ticketing systems across Europe.Overall,building on the public transportation case,we offer a proof-of-concept that shows how individuals can better manage their identity credentials via the SSI framework.展开更多
Sustainable land management is a pressing challenge in Morocco,where environmental pressures,rapid urbanization,and informal land practices undermine legal frameworks and planning efforts.Despite progress in service d...Sustainable land management is a pressing challenge in Morocco,where environmental pressures,rapid urbanization,and informal land practices undermine legal frameworks and planning efforts.Despite progress in service digitization,land governance remains weakened by inefficiency,overlapping claims,limited environmental oversight,and poor integration between cadastral data and ecological regulations.This paper examines the environmental and institutional shortcomings of Morocco’s land management system and advocates for a shift toward digitally enabled environmental governance.Current weaknesses in administration contribute to urban sprawl,land degradation,and climate vulnerability,particularly in peri-urban and rural zones.A review of legal frameworks and planning instruments reveals gaps in enforcing environmental regulations,protecting sensitive ecosystems,and securing tenure in high-risk areas.To address these challenges,we propose a governance-centered strategy that leverages digital tools—not as technical ends,but as enablers of sustainability.Innovations such as automated verification,spatial planning systems,and simplified registration workflows can enhance the enforcement of zoning laws,prevent unauthorized construction,and facilitate climate-resilient planning.We also assess Morocco’s commitments to environmental goals,including Nationally Determined Contributions and SDGs 11,13,and 15,demonstrating the central role of sustainable land governance in achieving them.The study concludes with a roadmap for institutional reform that balances tenure security,ecological resilience,and equitable land access.Findings aim to guide policymakers,land managers,and planners in Morocco and across the MENA region,offering an integrated and adaptable model that bridges land administration with environmental protection.展开更多
Centralized storage and identity identification methods pose many risks,including hacker attacks,data misuse,and single points of failure.Additionally,existing centralized identity management methods face interoperabi...Centralized storage and identity identification methods pose many risks,including hacker attacks,data misuse,and single points of failure.Additionally,existing centralized identity management methods face interoperability issues and rely on a single identity provider,leaving users without control over their identities.Therefore,this paper proposes a mechanism for identity identification and data sharing based on decentralized identifiers.The scheme utilizes blockchain technology to store the identifiers and data hashed on the chain to ensure permanent identity recognition and data integrity.Data is stored on InterPlanetary File System(IPFS)to avoid the risk of single points of failure and to enhance data persistence and availability.At the same time,compliance with World Wide Web Consortium(W3C)standards for decentralized identifiers and verifiable credentials increases the mechanism’s scalability and interoperability.展开更多
