Neoliberal economic policies implemented by the Justice and Development Party(AKP)in Turkey empowered the modernization process which is one of the main dynamics of transforming traditional societies. As a result of this socio-economic transformation, new institutions and technical developments evolved, without any relation to religion or its institutions(Zubaida,2011).In fact, this course has accelerated the individualization process of the religiously educated Generation Z in Turkey, whereas the significance of collective religious identity shrank(Kara,2014).The expansion of social media platforms has influenced young people’s relationship with religion and faith. However, after the Gezi Parki protests in 2013,the government started using a more populist discourse with regard to religious and nationalist symbols. This type of political communication had a crucial impact on the political arena. This research sheds light on the result of a qualitative analysis, based on interviews conducted with Imam Hatip school students in Turkey. The results of these in-depth interviews show how digital media is creating a new ecosystem based on self-identity(Giddens,1991). 展开更多

Selfishness, understood as excessive focus on the self, appears to be a predominant feature of contemporary culture. While the degree of self-focus is adaptive for survival and decision-making,self-rigidity has been associated with significant psychological, interpersonal, and social costs.Throughout history, philosophers, religious leaders, and social activists have promoted a“hypo-egoic”way of being, characterized by reduced self-fixation and greater openness to others. However,a key question arises:How can one cultivate a more flexible and interdependent perspective on the self?Deconstructive meditations are a group of contemplative practices that aim to dismantle self-rigidity by exploring perception, cognition, and emotion.Their central mechanism is self-inquiry,an experiential process that involves directly observing patterns of the self, questioning the solidity of identity, and developing new ways to relate to experience. From the perspective of contemplative neuroscience, these practices have been shown to reduce selfnarrative identification and promote psychological flexibility.Despite their potential, empirical research on deconstructive meditations remains limited and requires further investigation. This article reviews the essential findings on practices, their connection to psychotherapy, and their potential therapeutic applications. Finally, their clinical implications are discussed along with future research directions to validate their impact on mental health. 展开更多

Human rights are not only pivotal in depicting the relationship between individuals and communities but also a focal point of political philosophical concerns oriented towards reality. The inseparability of human rights from individual self-identity reveals a contradiction between practicality and historicity in understanding individuals, as highlighted in the debate between liberalism and communitarianism. In order to reconcile this contradiction, Habermas, drawing from German classical philosophy, examines practicality and historicity separately: while Fichte intertwines objectivity in self-identity, revealing the practicality of individuals but neglecting their real elements, Hegel interprets self-identity under the concept of unity, examining individuals from a historical dimension but letting rational rules dominate reality. Ultimately, Habermas reconstructs the process of modern individual self-identity from the theory of communicative action by critiquing the shackles of subjective philosophy. He not only reconciles the divergence between practicality and historicity in self-identity, but also elucidates the intersubjective core inherent in human rights. 展开更多

We in this article explore the issue about what subjective-self is composed of. A distinctive feature of "I" is uniqueness or un-duplicableness. By critically reviewing a few thought experiments, we reason that subjective-self must be composed of more than a blob of brain cells which are sophisticated enough to think reflexively and a bundle of memories and perceptions. There must be a third constituent for the existence of "I". We put forward two hypotheses for the third constituent. One is that it is something like dark matters or dark energy. Another is that it is something in the higher dimensional space. A person would lose his self-consciousness after death since the death takes away the two necessary constituents of subjective-self, his brain and memories. Where the third constituent would go after death remains a mystery. 展开更多

The author examines the differentiation of self-identity, school treatment, and academic struggle between two Asian American students in U.S. Midwest urban school environments. Using an interview study, the author focuses on understanding the students' perspectives in relation to the label of model minority. The purpose of the study is to investigate how social, academic, and economic factors affect these students, including different outcomes in terms of school achievement and self-identity formation. The findings aim to help urban educators approach complex factors regarding minority students' educational opportunities. Comprehensive results identified that: (1) The concept of model minority significantly affects Asian American students at all levels of daily life; (2) Urban schools continue reinforcing social reproduction and producing perceptions based on socioeconomic background and intersectional discrimination; (3) The evidence in the study shows that school environments do not aid students in valuing their cultural capital; (4) Students from different social classes present different linguistic and behavioral patterns; and (5) Social stratification significantly influences students' perspectives in response to the Asian stereotype, self-identity, and racial hierarchy in school and society. 展开更多
