Cancer significantly impacts patients'physical and mental health, leading to a wide range of effects from physical pain to psychological issues such as anxiety and depression, severely diminishing their quality of life.As an emerging psychosomatic intervention, mindfulness interventions have gained increasing attention. This scoping review systematically searches and filters relevant literature, covering databases from their inception to January 2025,aiming to comprehensively outline the application, research characteristics, and main outcomes of mindfulness interventions in cancer recovery. We employed the Arksey and O'Malley framework, utilizing electronic databases and manual searches to rigorously select studies and extract key data. Results indicate that mindfulness interventions show broad potential in improving cancer patients'mental health, physical symptoms, and quality of life, despite the heterogeneity of the evidence.Future research should focus on higher-quality randomized controlled trials to explore different intervention modalities and long-term effects and to analyze their underlying mechanisms. This paper particularly highlights the advancements in Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery, providing valuable references for clinical practice. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes(T2D)is a major health concern globally and its prevalence is expected to continue to escalate.Lifestyle intervention is an integral part of T2D management.Meal replacements are often used as part of lifestyle intervention programs in T2D and weight management programs. There are various trials being carried out to date;however,a thorough review regarding the usage of meal replacement on its types, dosage and associated outcomes and adverse events is still lacking.AIM To provide a comprehensive overview on existing studies regarding meal replacement usage among patients with T2D,and map out glycemic and weightrelated outcomes along with adverse effects incidences.METHODS This scoping review is conducted based on Arksey and O’Malley’s seminal framework for scoping reviews.A systematic search has been done for studies published between January 2020 and January 2024 across six online databases(Cochrane Library,PubMed,Science Direct,Scopus,Web of Science and Ebscohost Discovery)using specific keywords. Two researchers independently assessed the eligibility of the studies and extracted the data. The selected articles and extracted data were reviewed by all researchers.RESULTS The initial search resulted in an initial count of 53922 articles from which 133 articles were included in this review after eligibility screening.Included studies were categorized based on meal replacement type into low calorie/energy,low glycemic index,protein-rich,low-fat,diabetes-specific formulas, and combined lifestyle intervention programs.Fifty-nine studies reported improvements on hemoglobin A1c,and 70 studies reported positive changes in weight or BMI after the meal replacement intervention. The combination of meal replacements with education, counseling or structured lifestyle interventions has proved to be effective.Only 13 studies reported occurrence of adverse events related to the intervention. Most of the reported incidents were of mild occurrences with constipation being the most reported adverse event.CONCLUSION The results suggest that meal replacements, especially when combined with lifestyle intervention programs and counseling, are an effective and safe strategy in glycemic and weight management among patients with T2D. 展开更多

Objective:This study aimed to describe the implementation of advance care planning(ACP)in patients with stroke. Methods:A scoping review was conducted according to the Arksey and O'Malley framework.Accordingly,we searched for articles published in ScienceDirect,PubMed,Scopus,ProQuest, and Medline. The inclusion criteria were original research on ACP among adult or elderly stroke patients,hospital-or community-based studies, and those published in English or Indonesian.Qualitative analysis was then used to identify keywords, categories, and themes. Results:Among the 1,050 articles identified, only 8 satisfied the inclusion criteria, indicating that limited studies were available for ACP interventions among stroke patients.Four themes were ultimately identified:the strategy implementation of AC,the challenges of ACP implementation, the benefits of ACP,and the factors influencing ACP.Strategy ACP implementation included the ACP method, the communication style, participation role, media used, and ACP documentation.Lack of information about ACP,facilities, incapacitated patients, and reluctance to implement have become challenges to implementation in stroke. The benefits of ACP,particularly the outcomes of the ACP program, included awareness of ACP engagement, patients can express their wishes, and increased advance directive(AD)documentation. The factors influencing ACP included patient condition, knowledge, and appropriate ACP methods. Conclusion:ACP has not been widely used when providing interventions for stroke patients. The implementation of ACP in stroke patients is full of challenges due to various patient conditions.Effective strategies are needed to improve ACP in stroke patients. It is necessary to develop an ACP for stroke patients'method that involves interprofessional collaboration, and studies on AcP in stroke patients need to be further conducted through interprofessional collaboration. 展开更多

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality, posing a significant challenge to healthcare systems worldwide.Transitional care interventions, which ensure coordination and continuity of care as patients move between different levels of healthcare, have been shown to reduce unnecessary healthcare utilization and improve patient outcomes. While much attention has been given to transitional care in heart failure, this review aims to map the interventions implemented for patients following an acute myocardial infarction(AMI).A scoping review was conducted following the Joanna Briggs Institute(JBI)methodology, with literature searches performed in the Cochrane,CINAHL,MEDLINE,JBI,and SciELO databases, focusing on publications from 2013 onwards in both Portuguese and English.Seventy-five studies were included, with most combining multiple interventions that contributed to improved cardiovascular health outcomes, including increased adherence to healthy lifestyle behaviors, enhanced medication compliance, and better healthcare self-management.These interventions were effective in reducing cardiovascular-related Emergency Department visits, unplanned 30-day readmissions, and mortality following a first-time myocardial infarction.Key strategies identified included discharge planning, digital health solutions, outpatient care, and healthcare coordination. The findings of this review underscore the need for developing methodologies that enhance the transition of care from hospital to primary care following an AMI.There is an urgent need to design and implement new healthcare programs that integrate discharge interventions, digital health, outpatient care, and healthcare coordination to ensure continuity of care and optimize patient outcomes post-discharge. 展开更多

Objective:This study aimed to systematically review and depict the current studies of traditional Chinese medicine for the mental health of patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).Methods:A scoping review was conducted by searching PubMed,Web of Science,CNKI,Wanfang database,VIP database, and SinoMed,with the retrieval time being from the establishment of the database to April 18,2022.The basic information of the included studies, objective, design, types of patients, interventions, outcomes, etc.,was reviewed and summarized narratively.Methodological quality was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias assessment tool, the methodological index for nonrandomized studies or the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Results:We identified 30 traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)studies from six databases.Among them, finished randomized controlled trials(n=16)accounted for most of the studies, followed by single-arm studies(n=9).In terms of study theme,20 studies defined the mental health of patients with COVID-19 as the research theme.Psychological assessment was included in the inclusion criteria(performed before participation)of nine studies, whereas the other studies only mentioned the mental outcomes.TCM interventions included TCM exercises(Yijinjing,Baduanjin,Liuzijue,Taichi),acupoint stimulation(auricular and body points),moxibustion, decoction,or granules based on TCM syndrome differentiation, decoction,or granules with fixed formulae(Baidu Jieduan granules,Xuanfei Baidu decoction, and Qingfei Paidu decoction),Chinese patent medicine(Jinhua Qinggan granules),TCM psychological therapy(TCM ideological therapy,TCM five-tone therapy, and TCM psychological sand table),and TCM nursing(dialectical care, dialectical diet, and psychological counseling).Anxiety and depression were the main outcomes evaluated in regard to mental health in patients with COVID-19.The limitations of methodological quality were predominantly from follow-up,blinding,and registration.Positive results were reported by 27 studies(90%,n=30).Conclusion:We summarized the existing literature about the impact of TCM on mental health in patients with COVID-19.The number of studies evaluating the impact of TCM on mental health is encouraging, but overall methodological quality was low.Several TCM interventions warrant further evaluation, particularly among populations outside of China, for the purpose of establishing supporting evidence.More importantly, research with stronger methodological quality needs to be developed. 展开更多
