Sand production and high water content in oil wells are two major challenges that restrict high and stable production in loose sandstone reservoirs. In this paper, nano SiO_(2),coupling agent triethoxysilane, phenolic resin and n-octanol were used to synthesize the main agent SCA-2.Hexamethylenetetramine and vinyl carbonate were selected to prepare the curing agent YGA-1,which was then compounded with SCA-2 to develop a sand fixation and water plugging system.Firstly,single-factor experiments were conducted to determine the optimal concentrations of SCA-2 and YGA-1,subsequently,the system’s sand fixation and water blocking performance were evaluated. Finally,a pilot test was carried out in the mining site.Experimental results showed that the optimal formula composition of the system was 10%SCA-2+5%YGA-1.The gelation time of the system was 180 minutes and the viscosity after gelation could reach 108.4 mPa·s.When the dosage of the drug system was 0.6 PV,the sand production rate remained below 0.08%.Dual-tube parallel experiments showed that the sand fixation and water plugging system had a water flow channel plugging rate of 87.5%,while the oil flow channel plugging rate was only 11.3%,indicating minimal damage to the oil-bearing reservoir. The field test showed that after the measures taken in Well M of X oilfield, the sand free oil recovery period exceeded 360 days, the water content decreased by 5.0%and the cumulative oil production increased by 7092 m^(3).This study provides new ideas for efficient development of loose sandstone reservoirs. 展开更多

During the production of natural gas hydrates,micron-sized sand particles coexist with hydrate within the transportation pipeline, posing a significant threat to the safety of pipeline flow. However, the influence of sand particles on hydrate formation mechanisms and rheological properties remains poorly understood.Consequently, using a high-pressure reactor system, the phase equilibrium conditions, hydrate formation characteristics, hydrate concentration, and the slurry viscosity in micron-sized sand system are investigated in this work.Furthermore, the effects of sand particle size, sand concentration, and initial pressure on these properties are analyzed. The results indicate that a high concentration of micron-sized sand particles enhances the formation of methane hydrates. When the volume fraction of sand particles exceeds or equals 3%,the phase equilibrium conditions of the methane hydrate shift to the left relative to that of the pure water system(lower temperature, higher pressure). This shift becomes more pronounced with smaller particle sizes.Besides, under these sand concentration conditions, methane hydrates exhibit secondary or even multiple formation events, though the formation rate decreases.Additionally, the torque increases significantly and fluctuates considerably. The Roscoe-Brinkman model yields the most accurate slurry viscosity calculations, and as sand concentration increases, both hydrate concentration and slurry viscosity also increase. 展开更多

To know the bacterial communities structure in Babylonia areolata culture systems and to research and optimize the management pattem of Babylonia areola-ta culture systems of the pond mulched plastic film and sand in bottom, the bacte- rial communities in Babylonia areolata culture systems of the sub-tidal zone and the pond mulched plastic film and sand in bottom were analyzed at molecular level by adopting the denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). The results indicated that the dominant bacterial communities in Babylonia areolata culture systems of the sub-tidal zone and the pond mulched plastic film and sand in bottom, which were built on the basis of the seawater in East-island of Zhanjiang, included Proteobac- teda Chloroflexi, Cyanobacteria and Actinobacteria. The dominant bacterial groups in the above pond culture system were Garnmaproteobacteria, Alphaproteobacteria, Deltaprotecbacteda, Epsilonproteobacteda, Anaerolineae, Cyanobacteria and Acti- nobacteda. The dominant bacterial communities in the subtidal zone culture system were Gammaprotecbacteda, Alphaproteobacteria, Deltaproteobacteria, Anaerolineae and Cyanobacteda, and there were less Epsilonproteobacteria and Actinobacteria in the culture system. The higher diversity was detected in the above two culture sys- tems. The results of unweighted pair group method with arithmetic average (UPG- MA) showed that the bacterial communities of the sediment samples S1 and S2 in the above two culture systems were a cluster, the similarity of bacterial communities was 54.5%. The bacterial communities of seawater samples S3 and S4 in the above culture systems were in clusters, and the similarity of the bacterial communi- ties was 84.0%. The results showed that the microorganism ecological level in the Babylonia areolata culture systems of the pond mulched plastic film and sand in bottom could be similar to the sub-tidal zone culture systems through changing the pond seawater and monitoring the microbial population. 展开更多

The utilization of discarded coral debris in cementitious material is a prominent research area for island construction projects. The aim of this study is to explore the use of environment-friendly cement and waste coral sand in the preparation of coral mortar, while investigating its performance when exposed to a chloride environment.Three types of low-carbon cements were employed, such as rapid hardening sulphoaluminate(RCSA)cement, high belite sulphoaluminate(HBCSA)cement, and slag sulphoaluminate cement(SSC).The coulomb electric flux, mechanical properties, free chloride content, and mass change of the cement mortar under exposed to 3.5 wt%NaCl solution were examined at various time intervals.X-ray diffraction analysis was conducted to identify the mineral phases present in the mortar samples. The results demonstrate that the flexural and compressive strength of the mortar consistently increase throughout the 360 days chloride exposure period.Incorporating coral sand into SSC-based mortars enhances their compressive strength from day 28 up until day 360.However,it adversely affects the strength of HBCSA-based mortars. The behavior of mortars exposed to a chloride-rich environment is closely associated with the amount of C-S-H gel present within them.SSC generates a significant quantity of C-S-H gel which possesses a large specific surface area capable of absorbing more chloride ions thereby reducing their concentration within the mortar matrix as well as increasing its mass and improving resistance against chloride ion penetration. 展开更多

To study the durability of concrete in harsh environments in Northwest China, concrete was prepared with various durability-improving materials such as concrete anti-erosion inhibitor(SBT-TIA),acrylate polymer(AP),super absorbent resin(SAP).The erosion mode and internal deterioration mechanism under salt freeze-thaw cycle and dry-wet cycle were explored. The results show that the addition of enhancing materials can effectively improve the resistance of concrete to salt freezing and sulfate erosion:the relevant indexes of concrete added with X-AP and T-AP are improved after salt freeze-thaw cycles;concrete added with SBTTIA shows optimal sulfate corrosion resistance;and concrete added with AP displays the best resistance to salt freezing.Microanalysis shows that the increase in the number of cycles decreases the generation of internal hydration products and defects in concrete mixed with enhancing materials and improves the related indexes.Based on the Wiener model analysis, the reliability of concrete with different lithologies and enhancing materials is improved, which may provide a reference for the application of manufactured sand concrete and enhancing materials in Northwest China, especially for the study of the improvement effects and mechanism of enhancing materials on the performance of concrete. 展开更多

Belowground bud banks are essential for the regeneration of plant population in arid desert areas, and their response to environmental changes could reflect adaptive strategies of plants to desert habitats. However, the size and composition of belowground bud banks and their response to environmental factors in the desert steppe zone remain poorly understood, challenging desertification control efforts in arid desert areas. This study examined the density and vertical distribution of horizontal and vertical rhizome buds of a rhizomatous legume herb Sophora alopecuroides L.,its population characteristics, and soil physical-chemical properties in three habitats(interdune lowland(IL),flat sandy land(FSL),and desert steppe(DS))in a desert steppe zone, northern China. Our findings revealed that:(1)total and horizontal rhizome bud densities of S.alopecuroides differed significantly among the three habitats(P<0.05),with the largest total rhizome bud density(177 buds/m2)in IL and the smallest(63 buds/m2)in DS;(2)horizontal rhizome buds distributed in the deep soil layer were dominant in IL,while vertical rhizome buds in the top soil layer were predominant in DS;and(3)soil coarse sand, nutrient content, and population density were the primary factors affecting bud bank density of S.alopecuroides.Specifically,horizontal rhizome buds were dependent largely on soil coarse sand content, and vertical rhizome buds tended to be more related to soil organic matter content and population density. Our results indicated that horizontal rhizome buds were more important in IL with frequent aeolian disturbance, whereas vertical rhizome buds were more important in DS with abundant water and nutrient resources. The plastic responses and survival strategies of S.alopecuroides bud bank to different habitats provide valuable information for the effective implementation of desertification control measures and the management of desert steppe ecosystems. 展开更多

Abstract:Sand dust belts span approximately one-fifth of the global land surface. In these regions, dust tends to settle on vegetation surfaces, altering the observed reflectance and affecting remote sensing detections. To enhance the accuracy of maize growth monitoring in dust-affected regions, this study aims to quantify the effect of sand dust retention on maize during the tasseling stage in the Kashgar Prefecture,Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region,China,by analyzing changes in canopy reflectance and vegetation indices.First, field sampling was conducted to measure the key canopy structure parameters and dust retention levels of maize, and laboratory spectral measurements were performed on leaf spectral properties under gradient dust retention. The measured data were then used to drive the LargE-Scale remote sensing data and image Simulation framework(LESS)model for simulating realistic maize canopy spectra across different dust levels, with validation against Sentinel-2 imagery.Second,on the basis of the simulated and satellite-derived spectra, the dust resistance of 36 common vegetation indices was systematically evaluated, and new robust dust-resistant indices were developed. The results showed that compared with dust-free maize, the canopy reflectance of dust-retained maize followed an increase–decrease–increase pattern, with critical turning points at 735 and 1325 nm.The maximum reflectance difference of–0.11755(change rate:29.002%)occurred within the 735–1325 nm range at 24 g/m^(2)dust retention, and the minimum reflectance difference of 0.04285(change rate:148.950%)was observed in the 350–735 nm range under the same dust retention level.Among the 36 vegetation indices, only the global environment monitoring index(GEMI)and the ratio of transformed chlorophyll absorption in reflectance index to optimized soil-adjusted vegetation index(TCARI/OSAVI)exhibited dust resistance, with GEMI being effective below 6 g/m^(2)and TCARI/OSAVI remaining stable across all levels(average ratio:0.970).The newly developed indices in this study,(RE3–RE2)/(NIR–RE2),(RE3–RE2)/(RE4–RE2),and(NIR–RE2)/(RE4–RE2),retained values within the predefined dust-resistant range over the full dust retention levels of 0–24 g/m^(2),thus showing a more stable dust resistance compared with the commonly used 36 vegetation indices.Specially,(RE3–RE2)/(RE4–RE2)performed the most robustly in Sentinel-2 imagery, that is,58.020%of pixels were within the dust-resistant range, and an average ratio of 0.937 was obtained for the original-spectra index. This study provides a scientific basis for crop monitoring and management in dust-affected regions. 展开更多

To improve the efficiency of a CycloBio fluidized sand bed(CB FSB) in removal of dissolved wastes in recirculating aquaculture systems, the hydrodynamics of solid-liquid flow was investigated using computational fluid dynamics(CFD) modeling tools. The dynamic characteristics of silica sand within the CB FSB were determined using three-dimensional, unsteady-state simulations with the granular Eulerian multiphase approach and the RNG k-ε turbulence model, and the simulation results were validated using available lab-scale measurements. The bed expansion of CB FSB increased with the increase in water inflow rate in numerical simulations. Upon validation, the simulation involving 0.55 mm particles, the Gidaspow correlation for drag coefficient model and the Syamlal-O'Brien correlation for kinetic granular viscosity showed the closest match to the experimental results. The volume fraction of numerical simulations peaked as the wall was approached. The hydrodynamics of a pilot-scale CB FSB was simulated in order to predict the range of water flow to avoid the silica sand overflowing. The numerical simulations were in agreement with the experimental results qualitatively and quantitatively, and thus can be used to study the hydrodynamics of solid-liquid multiphase flow in CB FSB, which is of importance to the design, optimization, and amplification of CB FSBs. 展开更多

To visually describe the sanding pattern, this study constructs a new particle-scale microstructure model of weakly consolidated formation, and develop the corresponding methodology to simulate the sanding process and predict sand cavity shape. The microstructure model is a particle-objective model, which focuses on the random sedimentation of every sand grain. In the microstructure, every particle has its own size, sphericity and inclination angle. It is used to simulate the actual structure of cemented granular materials, which considers the heterogeneity and randomness of reservoir properties, provides the initial status for subsequent sanding simulation. With the particle detachment criteria, the microscopic simulation of sanding can be visually implemented to investigate the pattern and cavity shapes caused by sand production. The results indicate that sanding always starts initially from the borehole border, and then extends along the weakly consolidated plane, showing obvious characteristic of randomness.Three typical microscopic sanding patterns, concerning pore liquefaction, pseudo wormhole and continuous collapse, are proposed to illustrate the sanding mechanism in weakly consolidated reservoirs. The nonuniformity of sanding performance depends on the heterogeneous distribution of reservoir properties, such as rock strength and particle size. Finally, the three sanding patterns are verified by visually experimental work. The proposed integrated methodology is capable of predicting and describing the sanding cavity shape of an oil well after long-term sanding production, and providing the focus objective of future sand control measure. 展开更多

Sand production is a crucial problem during the process of extracting natural gas from hydrate reservoirs. To deal with sand-production problems systematically, a sand-production control system (SCS) is first proposed in this paper, specialized for pore-distributed clayey silt hydrate reservoirs. Secondly, a nodal system analysis method (NSAM) is applied to analyze the sand migration process during hydrate exploitation. The SCS is divided into three sub-systems, according to different sand migration mechanisms, and three key scientific problems and advances in SCS research in China Geological Survey are reviewed and analyzed. The maximum formation sanding rate, proper sand-control gravel size, and borehole blockage risk position were provided for clayey hydrate exploitation wells based on the SCS analysis. The SCS sub-systems are closely connected via bilateral coupling, and coordination of the subsystems is the basis of maintaining formation stability and prolonging the gas production cycle. Therefore, contradictory mitigation measures between sand production and operational systems should be considered preferentially. Some novel and efficient hydrate exploitation methods are needed to completely solve the contradictions caused by sand production. 展开更多

The radial sand ridge system (RSRS) located at Jiangsu coast of China attracts much attention on its origin and mechanic of formation for its special structure and potential land resource. Due to complicated hydrodynamic condition, the Jiangsu RSRS is a hot debated on its potential sources, Yangtze River or Yellow River? We collected ten sand samples from surface sediments along the west coast of Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea from the modern Yellow River estuary to Yangtze River estuary in summer, 2013. The samples are analyzed by method of detrital zircon age for source identification of the RSRS sediments. The U-Pb age spectra of detrital zircon grains of the samples show a wide range from Cenozoic to Late Archean with several age peaks. Comparing the age spectra between the Yangtze River and the Yellow River, the detrital zircons have younger age (〈100 Ma) group in the Yangtze River. These age distribution of the Jiangsu coastal RSRS sediments are similar to that of the Yangtze River, but different from the Yellow River. The samples located adjacent to the old Yellow River Delta show more wide-range age distribution, implying a compounded origination from the both rivers. Based on these findings it is proposed that, contrary to common opinion, the main sediment source of the Jiangsu RSRS is the Yangtze River, rather than the Yellow River. By implication, there should be evidence of hydrodynamic mechanics of oceanic currents and tidal motion. This aspect awaits confirmation in future research. 展开更多

Phase equilibrium conditions of gas hydrate in several systems were measured by the step-heating method using the cylindrical transparent sapphire cell device. The experimental data for pure CH4 or CO2+deionized water systems showed good agreement with those in the literatures. This kind of method was then applied to CH4/CO2+sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)aqueous solution,CH4/CO2+SDS aqueous solution+silica sand,and(CH4+C2H6+C3H8)gas mixture+SDS aqueous solution systems, where SDS was added to increase the hydrate formation rate without evident influence on the equilibrium conditions. The feasibility and reliability of the step-heating method, especially for porous media systems and gas mixtures systems were determined. The experimental data for CO2+silica sand data shows that the equilibrium pressure will change significantly when the particle size of silica sand is less than 96μm.The formation equilibrium pressure was also measured by the reformation of hydrate. 展开更多

Although scientists have performed many studies in the Taklimakan Desert, few of them have reported the blown sand motion along the southern edge of the Taklimakan Desert Highway, which differs significantly from the northern region in terms of aeolian sand geomorphology and formation environment. Based on the field ob- servation data of airflow and aeolian sand transport, continuous monitoring data of erosional and depositional processes between 14 April 2009 and 9 April 2011 and data of surface sand grains from the classical section along the southern edge of the Taklimakan Desert Highway, this paper reported the blown sand motion within the sand-control system of the highway. The main results are as follows: 1) The existing sand-control system is highly effective in preventing and controlling desertification. Wind velocities within the sand-control system were ap- proximately 33%-100% of those for the same height above the mobile sand surface. Aeolian sand fluxes were approximately 0-31.21% of those of the mobile sand surface. Sand grains inside the system, with a mean diameter of 2.89 q), were finer than those (2.15 q)) outside the system. In addition, wind velocities basically followed a loga- rithmic law, but the airflow along the classical section was mainly determined by topography and vegetation. 2) There were obvious erosional and depositional phenomena above the surface within the sand-control system, and these phenomena have very consistent patterns for all observation points in the two observed years. The total thicknesses of erosion and deposition ranged from 0.30 to 14.60 cm, with a mean value of 3.67 cm. In contrast, the deposition thicknesses were 1.90-22.10 cm, with a mean value of 7.59 cm, and the erosion thicknesses were 3.51-15.10 cm, with a mean value of 8.75 cm. The results will aid our understanding of blown sand within the sand-control system and provide a strong foundation for optimizing the sand-control system. 展开更多

Due to large deserts on Earth surface a thorough understanding of climate change, landscape evolution and geomorphological processes having occurred in deserts is crucial for Earth System Science. The landscapes in deserts are, however, diverse and different over the globe with regard to their geomorphological nature, human activities and geological histories. In the last decades a great number of efforts have been put to the investigation of the initial timing of the occurrence of arid climate, e. g. in northwestern China. Silty sediments in the downwind directions have been used to deduce the histories of deserts. In general, there is a lack of knowledge about processes and landscapes in Chinese drylands between the initial Miocene silt sedimentation at desert margins and the late Quaternary multiple occurrences of wetter climate with assumed large lakes in many of the deserts in northern China. The geomorphological concept of three primary triggering factors, i.e., the sediment supply, sediment availability and transport capacity of wind, and additionally the underground geology need to be fully considered for a better understanding of the environmental histories of sand seas which should not be viewed as equivalent for deserts because sand seas cover between 〈 1% and ca. 45% of the desert areas in various continents dependent on a complex interaction between various processes of both exogenous and endogenous origins. 展开更多

Mechanical failure of materials adjacent to the production cavity and material disaggregation caused by fluid drag are considered as the most important parameters that affect sand production. In light of such factors, the coupling of two mechanisms-mechanical instability and hydrodynamic erosion-is indispensable in order to model this phenomenon successfully. This paper examines the applicability of a coupled hydro-mechanical erosion criterion for simulating sand production using the finite element method. The porous medium was considered fully saturated. The onset of sanding and production of sand were predicted by coupling mechanical failure and subsequent erosion of the grain particles utilizing a sanding model. To consider the erosion process, the Papamichos and Stavropoulou(1998)’s sand erosion criterion was incorporated into the finite element code.Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian(ALE)adaptive mesh approach was used to account for large amounts of erosive material loss.Besides,in order to address the problem of severe mesh distortion, the“mesh mapping technique”was employed.Sand production in a horizontal wellbore and in a field case was simulated to demonstrate capabilities of the proposed model. In addition, principal parameters affecting sand production, including in situ stresses, cohesion, perforation orientation, and drawdown were examined. The results indicated the efficiency of the model used in evaluation of sanding in the field.Parametric studies indicated that in situ stresses and formation cohesion could be considered as dominant factors affecting the amount of sand production. 展开更多

Chang- regional uplift, and was slightly affected by crest was identified as a structural transposition zone. Based on analysis of seismic facies, logging facies and seismic inversion technique, it has been demonstrated that anticline crest zone conducts drainage entering basin and dominates sedimentary detritus further dispersing, and the anticline crest zone controls the distribution of sand bodies and the development of sedimentary system consequently. The sequence stratigraphic patterns of multi-step fault belt in Member 3 of Xiagou Formation in Lower Cretaceous in the anticline crest zone is composed of the development of sedimentary facies in plan and distribution of multi-step fault belt sand bodies in spa- tial. Understanding the kinetics and viscosity of hydrate slurry in gas-water-sand system is of great significance for the high-efficiency and high-safety development of natural gas hydrates. The effect of micronsized sands with various concentrations and particle sizes on the hydrate formation, dissociation, and viscosity in gas-water-sand system are investigated in this work. The experimental results show that the hydrate induction time in the sandy system is slightly prolonged compared to the pure gas-water system, and the inhibition effect first strengthens and then weakens as the sand concentration increases from0 wt%to 5 wt%.Besides, the difference of hydrate formation amount in various cases is not obvious. The concentration and particle size of sand have little effect on the kinetics of hydrate formation. Both promoting and inhibiting effects on hydrate formation have been found in the sandy multiphase fluid. For the viscosity characteristics, there are three variations of hydrate slurry viscosity during the formation process:Steep drop type,S-type and Fluctuation type. Moreover, appropriate sand size is helpful to reduce the randomness of slurry viscosity change.Meanwhile, even at the same hydrate volume fraction, the slurry viscosity in the formation process is significantly higher than that in dissociation process, which needs further research. This work provides further insights of hydrate formation, dissociation, and viscosity in gas-water-sand system, which is of great significance for safe and economic development of natural gas hydrates. 展开更多

Atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition has been poorly documented in northern China, an intensive agricultural and industrial region with large emissions of NHx and NOy. To quantify N deposition, total airborne N deposition was determined at three agricultural sites using a manual integrated total nitrogen input (ITNI) system during growth of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) from September 2005 to May 2006. Total estimated N deposition averaged 54.9 and 43.2 kg N/hm2 across the three sites when wheat was grown to flowering and maturing, respectively. The average value was 50.2 kg N/hm2 when ryegrass was the indicator plant. Both indicator species gave similar total airborne N input results. The intermediate level of N supplied resulted in the highest N deposition, and the ratio of N acquired from deposition to total N content of the whole system decreased with increasing N supply to the roots. The contribution of atmospheric N to the total N content of the wheat and ryegrass sand culture systems ranged from 10% to 24%. 展开更多

The strength of the mould cavity in sand casting is very much significant to attain high-quality castings. Optimization of green sand process parameters plays a vital role in minimizing casting defects. In the present research work, the effect of process parameters such as AFS grain fineness number, water, molasses, bentonite, fly ash, and ramming, and their levels on the resultant mould properties were investigated and optimized using Taguchi based grey relational analysis. The Taguchi L18 orthogonal array and analysis of variance(ANOVA) were used. The quality characteristics viz., green compression strength, permeability, bulk density, mould hardness and shatter index of green sand mould were optimized using grey relational grade, based on the experiments designed using Taguchi's Design of Experiments. ANOVA analysis indicated that water content is the most influential parameter followed by bentonite, and degree of ramming that contributes to the quality characteristics. The results are confirmed by calculating confidence intervals, which lies within the interval limits. Finally, microstructure observations and X-ray diffraction analysis have been performed for the optimal sand parametric combination. Results show that presence of maximum amount of SiO_2, which might be the reason for enhancement of the physical properties of the sand. 展开更多

Two gating systems namely stepped and tapered runners were used to cast strip samples with different thicknesses by CO2/silicate process using sand grain sizes of AFS 151 and 171. To assess the effect of mould coating on the properties of thin wall ductile iron, half of the moulds were coated whilst the rest were not coated. Molten metal with the carbon equivalent of 4.29% was prepared and poured at 1 450 ℃. Microstructure of the specimens was analyzed by optical and scanning electron microscopes. Count, area fraction, roundness and diameter of the graphite nodules of the samples were measured by image analyzer. Brinell hardness and tensile tests of all the samples were also conducted. The results show that by using stepped runner gating system with uncoated and coarse sand mould, roundness and count of the graphite nodules decrease whereas diameter and area fraction increase. Although fine sand and coated mould cause longer distance of molten metal travel, hardness and strength of the samples decrease. 展开更多
