Multiparent advanced generation inter-cross(MAGIC)populations improve the accuracy of quantitative trait loci mapping compared to biparental populations by increasing diversity and reducing linkage disequilibrium between variants.Here we describe the development of two MAGIC populations derived from a cross of 11 founder lines from the INTA(National Institute for Agricultural Technology in Argentina)sunflower breeding program.The founder lines are fertility maintainer inbred lines that exhibit genetic diversity in several traits,including flowering cycle,plant architecture,disease resistance,oil content and oil quality.The crossing scheme applied follows the design of two-way,four-way and eight-way crosses with a modification to increase the number of recombinations and shorten the linkage disequilibrium.Phenotyping a subset of F_(2)families and F_5 lines for different traits shows an increase in the diversity of the analyzed traits compared to the parental lines.In addition,we identified lines with transgressive segregation for Sunflower Verticillium Wilt resistance.These results confirm that the MAGIC populations will serve as unique genetic and genomic resources to better characterize the genetics of complex traits and identify potentially superior alleles for sunflower breeding.It will also enrich the gene pool of fertility maintainers(A/B line)of the sunflower germplasm and facilitate the introduction of new breeding methods to select female parents for use in AxR combinations to obtain superior sunflower hybrids. 展开更多

The analysis of combining ability and heterosis is very important in enhancing the yield and oil quality of sunflowers under adverse conditions,and it reveals the potential of the parents and the mechanism of gene action.In this study,twenty-one hybrids were developed by crossing seven cytoplasmic male sterile(CMS)lines with three restorer lines and evaluated for agronomic and quality traits.Highly significant general combining ability(GCA)and specific combining ability(SCA)effects were observed,confirming the role of both additive and non-additive gene actions.Among the tested crosses,A-42×R-86,A-92×R-86,and A-92×R-114 exhibited the greatest heterotic advantage,with seed yields exceeding 340 kg ha^(−1) over the better parent,oil contents above 19%,and 100-seed weights greater than 27 g.The hybrid A-92×R-114 was particularly notable for its elevated oleic acid level and balanced fatty acid profile,making it a strong candidate for premium oilseed production.In contrast,hybrids like A-20×R-39 exhibited moderate heterosis and less quality superiority.The oleic-to-linoleic acid ratio,a key determinant of oil stability,was strongly controlled by genetic factors.Oil content was largely influenced by additive effects,whereas yield heterosis was predominantly governed by non-additive effects.Overall,A-42×R-86 and A-92×R-114 emerged as the most promising hybrids,combining yield benefits with improved oil quality,and offering practical guidance for parental selection in sunflower breeding programs. 展开更多

Biomimetic Flow Field Inspired by Sunflower Phyllotaxis:Design and Performance Optimization for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

To advance the performance of solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs),this work proposes a novel biomimetic flow field architecture inspired by the geometric arrangement of sunflower florets.Drawing on natural principles of optimal spatial distribution,a multi-physics simulation model of the resulting Sunflower Bionic Flow Field(SBFF)was developed.Building upon this foundation,an enhanced configuration was introduced by integrating an annular channel,yielding a modified variant referred to as Modified Sunflower Bionic Flow Field(MSBFF).For comparative purposes,a conventional Traditional Parallel Flow Field(TPFF)was also analyzed under identical conditions.Simulation results underscore the superior gas distribution performance of the bionic configurations.Both SBFF and MSBFF significantly improved the homogeneity of reactant gas molar concentration throughout the flow domain.Relative to the TPFF,the SBFF achieved a 13.32%increase in current density,while the MSBFF reached an enhancement of 15.09%.Correspondingly,peak power densities rose by 14.07%and 16.55%,respectively.Furthermore,these bio-inspired structures contributed to improved thermal regulation,as evidenced by a reduction in average electrolyte temperature by 3.22%for the SBFF and 2.92%for the MSBFF.To further optimize performance,the influence of Fibonacci spiral channel count within the MSBFF design was systematically investigated.Results reveal a strong positive correlation between the number of spiral channels and electrochemical output.In particular,the MSBFF with 16 spiral channels(MSBFF-16)demonstrated the most favorable electrical and thermal characteristics.At an operating voltage of 0.7 V,MSBFF-16 exhibited a current density increase of 1.27%and 0.94%over MSBFF and MSBFF-12,respectively.Likewise,peak power density improved by 2.69%and 1.67%.Finally,the study examined the impact of varying inlet mass fractions of oxygen and hydrogen on SOFC performance.Distinct trends were observed:increasing the oxygen mass fraction markedly enhanced heat transfer and current density,while greater hydrogen mass fractions significantly boosted fuel utilization.These findings highlight the crucial role of reactant composition and flow field topology in governing the electrochemical and thermal efficiency of SOFC systems. 展开更多

[Objective]The aim was to study the effects of sunflower artificial aging on seed vigor and physiological characteristics.[Method] The varieties of seed germination capacity,vigor of germination,germination index,vigor index,peroxidase(POD) activity,superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity and malondialdehyde(MDA) content for four sunflower germplasms such as'SunM20','Deep Purple Minle','Da San Kui Hua 4'and'Ji Kui 24'were studied under high temperature and high humidity conditions(100% RH,45 ℃) for different days(0 d,2 d,4 d,6 d,8 d,10 d).[Result]The result showed that the germination capacity,vigor of germination,germination index,vigor index,POD activity,SOD activity declined gradually with the increase of seed aging days,whereas MDA content enhanced by degrees;The diggerences of resistance to artifical aging existed among the four accessions,'SunM20'was the most resistant one,and exhibited the strongest seed vigor,highest activities of two protective enzyme(POD,SOD) and lowest content of MDA at the uniform condition,moreover,the seed vigor and protective enzyme activities of'SunM20'changed slowest among the four materials during the aging process.[Conclusion]The distinct reduction of POD,SOD activities maybe the main reasons for the decrease of sunflower seed vigor at the artificial aging,and the gradual accumulation of a few MDA accelerated seeds aging. 展开更多

Impact of Salt Stress on Growth and Ion Uptake of Different Parts of Oil Sunflower Seedlings 被引量:7

[Objective] The purpose was to discuss the effects of different NaCl concentrations on fresh weight and dry weight,ion absorption and distribution in oil sunflower seedlings. [Method] Under the simulated salt environment by using NaCl solutions at different concentrations,the dry weight,fresh weight and ion content of oil sunflower seedlings were determined. [Result] With the increase of NaCl concentration,the growth rate of oil sunflower seedling was inhibited. In addition,its fresh weight and dry weight also decreased; the fresh weight of leaf decreased most significantly by 60%,and that of cotyledon decreased most slightly by 13% at 200 mmol/L NaCl concentration. The dry weight of root,stem,leaf and cotyledon decreased by 35%,39%,55% and 8% respectively,showing a similar decreasing trend with fresh weight. Under NaCl stress,Na+ content in root and stem of oil sunflower seedling increased while K+ decreased. Na+ content was mainly concentrated in roots and stems much more than in leaves; K+ content in roots decreased most significantly by 21% compared with control,and it was relatively high in leaf. Ca2+ and Mg2+ content was decreased slightly in roots and stems; Ca2+ content in leaves and cotyledons was stable; Mg2+ content was slightly increased. [Conclusion] Oil sunflower maintained high mineral ion absorptionunder salt stress,that maybe the part reason for high salt tolerance of oil sunflower seedlings. 展开更多

[Method] Seeds of oil sunflower were used as experimental materials and treated with 120 mmol/L NaCI solution and 0-200 mg/L Vc solution during the germina- tion process, to investigate the effects of exogenous Vc on seed germination and physiological properties of oil sunflower under salt stress. [Result] Under salt stress, with the increase of Vc concentration, germination potential and germination rate of oil sunflower seeds, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activities and proline (Pro) content of oil sunflower seedlings increased first and then declined, which reached the maixmum in 80 mg/L Vc treatment, 120 mg/L Vc treatment and 80 mg/L Vc treatment, respectively; malondialdehyde (MDA) content of oil sunflower seedlings declined first and then increased, which reached the minimum in 160 mg/L Vc treatment. [Conclusion] To varying degrees, Vc could improve germination potential and germination rate of oil sunflower seeds and promote seedling growth under salt stress, thus alleviating the damages of salt stress to seed germination and seedling growth of oil sunflower. 展开更多

With the development of society and the prosperity of Chinese literature,as a part of China’s soft power,Chinese chil dren literature is faced with the problem of international dissemination.The English version of Cao Wenxuan’s Bronze and Sunflow er won Hans Christian Andersen Award,the top award of children’s literature,which is a successful example of such dissemina tion.Therefore,the Chinese-English translation skills employed are worth studying.This paper aims to analyze the skills used to in the translation of short clauses,reiterative locution,simile,parallelism and dingzhen from the perspective of reception theory.It is found that by using such translation skills as omission,alliteration,repetition of prepositions and pronouns,and literal translation,the translator preserves and recreates the effect of the original text in ways that are more acceptable and idiomatic for the target reader. 展开更多

In an effort to simplify the procedure and to reduce the cost of fluorescence SSR analysis, the conditions of the multiplex PCR and the multiplex gel electrophoresis were optimized in the genetic analysis of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) inbred lines. Results indicated that factors for a successful multiplex PCR assay were related to the cycling touchdown annealing temperature, the balance of primer concentration at the various loci, the concentration of PCR buffer and the Taq DNA polymerase. Based on the optimization, a tailed primer strategy was outlined, and the effective ways were proposed to overcome the troubleshootings commonly encountered in the multiplex PCR and the multiplex gel electrophoresis. 展开更多

Field experiments were conducted in oil and edible sunflower to study the effects of potassium(K) fertilization on achene yield and quality, and to estimate the nutrient internal efficiency(IE) and nutrient requirement in sunflower production. All trials in edible sunflower and 75% trials in oil sunflower showed positive yield responses to K fertilization. Compared with control without K fertilization, the application of K increased achene yield by an average of 406 kg ha–1for oil sunflower and 294 kg ha–1for edible sunflower. K application also increased 1 000-achene weight and kernel rate of both oil and edible sunflower. K fertilization improved the contents of oil, oleic acid, linoleic acid and linolenic acid in achenes of oil sunflower, and increased contents of oil, total unsaturated fatty acid and protein in achenes of edible sunflower. The average agronomic efficiency of K fertilizer was 4.0 for oil sunflower and 3.0 kg achene kg–1K2O for edible sunflower. The average IE of N, P and K under balanced NPK fertilization was 22.9, 82.8, and 9.9 kg kg–1for oil sunflower, and 27.3, 138.9, and 14.3 kg kg–1for edible sunflower. These values were equivalent to 45.5, 14.1, and 108.1 kg, and 39.0, 8.0, and 71.7 kg of N, P and K, respectively, in above-ground dry matter required for production per ton of achenes. The average harvest index of N, P and K was 0.47, 0.56 and 0.05 kg kg–1in oil sunflower, and 0.58, 0.58 and 0.14 kg kg–1in edible sunflower. 展开更多

The present paper studied numerical and experimentally the transesterification reaction between sunflower oil and ethanol with NaO H catalyst in microchannels with circular obstructions. The micromixer design influence on fluid mixing and oil conversion was investigated for a range of operating conditions: Reynolds number(Re = 0.1–100),Temperature(25–75 °C), ethanol/oil molar ratio(6-12), and catalyst concentration(0.75 wt%–1.25 wt%), using three microchannel configurations(Length = 35 mm; Width = 1500 μm; Height = 200 μm): T-shape – channel without obstructions; MCO – channel with 3 obstructions ensemble – equally disposed over longitudinal length;MWO – channel with 7 obstructions ensemble. The MCO micromixer was based on literature work, and the MWO is a totally new micromixer design. Experimental tests were conducted in similar conditions in microreactors using these micromixers(Length = 411 mm) made of polydimethylsiloxane. The MCO configuration presented the highest performance(mixing index of 0.80 at Re = 100), oil conversion of 81.13% at 75 °C, molar ratio of 9 and catalyst concentration of 1%. Experimental results showed high conversions for MCO and MWO configurations(99.99%) at 50 °C, molar ratio of 9 and catalyst concentration of 1%, with a residence time of 12 s. 展开更多

Weed control is one of the major constraint factors in crop production around the world. Field experiments were conducted during 2008-2009 under intercropping systems involving alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), sweet potato (lpomoea batatas [L.] Lain.), peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.), and sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) in maize (Zea mays L.) without any weeds control methods taken. The results demonstrate that maizellsunflower is most effective on weed suppression and that it also has a more competitively inhibitory effect on Xanthium compared with the other patterns by evaluating the Xanthium density and dry weight under different intercropping systems with maize. Maizellpeanut, maizellalfalfa and maizel]sweet potato intercrops have no apparent inhibitory effect on weeds. To further investigate the effect of maize]lsunflower on weed control, indoor pot experiments were conducted by determining the effect of extractions on germination rate (GR), root vigor, MDA (malondialdehyde), SOD (superoxide dismutase) and POD (peroxidase) content of Xanthium. The results better prove that maizellsunflower extractions have more significant inhibitory effect on GR and young root vigor of Xanthium than maize monocrop extractions. 展开更多

RAPDs and AFLPs were used to determine the genetic relationships among 23 elite cultivars of confectionary sunflowers (Helianthas annuus) from different districts in China. Both approaches uniquely fingerprint each of the accessions. Twenty-six RAPD primers resulted in a total of 192 strong DNA fragments, ranging from 0.26 kb to 1.98 kb, among which 165 (86.12%) were polymorphic. The average number of DNA band produced by each primer was 7.38. A total of 576 AFLP markers were produced with 8 primer combinations, ranging from 100 bp to 500 bp, and 341 polymorphic bands (59.20%) were revealed. The polymorphism rate was 76.00% and the average bands amplified by per primer combination were 72. Effective number of alleles per locus of RAPD marker (1.76) was larger than that of the AFLP marker (1.65). The mean PIC value of AFLP markers (0.38) was lower than that of the RAPD markers (0.41), but AFLP marker had much higher Ai value (38.52) than RAPD marker (6.38). Genetic similarities from RAPD data ranged from 47.84% to 82.06% and the average Nei's coefficient was 0.649 5; the Nei's coefficient of similarity from AFLP data ranged from 54.15% to 83.52%, and the average Nei's coefficient was 0.688 4. However, standard deviation (SD) of RAPDs was 0.13 but the SD of AFLPs was 0.08. In general, the RAPD data gave lower similarity values and higher SD values than those based on the AFLP analysis. The correlation coefficient between the two genetic similarity matrices was 0.51, revealing the estimations of genetic relationship provided by the two marker systems were only moderate. However, cluster analyses of RAPD or AFLP data divided the 23 sunflower genotypes into identical 3 groups. 展开更多

To clarify the quality characters,understand the genetic diversity and screen elite lines among different oilseed sunflowers,the contents of crude fat,oleic acid,linoleic acid,palmitic acid and stearic acid of 525 oil sunflowers(including 375 germplasm accessions and 150 inbred lines)were detected by near-infrared spectroscopy(NIRS);the genetic variation and correlation analysis of quality traits were also performed.The results showed that oleic acid and linoleic acid had rich diversities with large variation ranges for each material type.Similar to the relation between crude fat content and palmitic acid content,significantly negative relation with high estimated value existed between oleic acid and linoleic acid content,while stearic acid content positively associated with oleic acid and palmitic acid content.Principal component analysis indicated that 5 quality traits were integrated into 2principal component factors(linoleic acid negative factor and palmitic acid factor)with the contribution rate of 88.191%,which could be used for evaluating sunflower quality.525 oilseed sunflowers were clustered into 3groups with obvious differences of quality characters,materials in Group I had high contents of oleic acid and low crude fat,but the opposite was found in GroupⅢ.59 superior quality accessions were obtained using large-scale and rapid near-infrared spectroscopy,and these excellent materials were verified by the traditional national chemical standard method.This research provided materials and significant reference for sunflower genetic research and quality breeding. 展开更多

Effect of Boron Foliar Application on Yield and Quality of Some Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) Cultivars 被引量:2

This study was carried out in the greenhouse of the National Research Center, Dokki, Giza, Egypt, in order to investigate the effect of foliar application of boron (0, 300 and 600 ppm B) as boric acid (H3BO3, 17% B) on the yield and yield components and also the seed quality of two sunflower cultivars (Sakha-53 and Giza-102). B application at a rate of 600 ppm produced the highest values of seed yield/plant (g), head diameter (cm), number of seeds/head, weight of 1,000 seed (g), percentage of oil (%) and oil yield/plant (g) of both cultivars. Seed yield/plant increased by 26.85% and 34.81% with increasing B concentration from 300 ppm and 600 ppm as compared to control plants, respectively. The results indicated that application of 300 ppm B resulted in an increase of palmitic, stearic and oleic acids as compared to the treatment with 600 ppm B and control plants. However, the linoleic acid increased gradually with increasing B up to 600 ppm. Such increases were estimated by 8.72% and 7.19% over the control plants or the treatment sprayed with 300 ppm B, respectively. The highest oleic and linoleic acids percentages (52.71% and 36.05%, respectively) were obtained from Sakha-53 cultivar with 300 ppm B foliar application, while the lowest lenolenic acid percentage (2.01%) was obtained at 600 ppm B. The highest content of gluatmine, isoleucine and arginine (9.61, 3.97 and 3.97 mg/100 g dry weight) was obtained from Sakha-53 cultivar, followed by Giza-102 at a rate of 600 ppm foliar application of B. It can be concluded that B plays a vital role for increasing the productivity and quality of sunflower plants, especially when grown under B deficient soil. 展开更多

With the development circular economy, the use of agricultural waste to prepare biomass materials to remove pollutants has become a research hotspot. In this study, sunflower straw activated carbon (SSAC) was prepared by the one-step activation method, with sunflower straw (SS) used as the raw material and H3PO4 used as the activator. Four types of SSAC were prepared with impregnation ratios (weight of SS to weight of H3PO4) of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, and 1:5, corresponding to SSAC1, SSAC2, SSAC3, and SSAC4, respectively. The adsorption process of acid fuchsin (AF) in water using the four types of SSAC was studied. The results showed that the impregnation ratio significantly affected the structure of the materials. The increase in the impregnation ratio increased the specific surface area and pore volume of SSAC and improved the adsorption capacity of AF. However, an impregnation ratio that was too large led to a decrease in specific surface area. SSAC3, with an impregnation ratio of 1:3, had the largest specific surface area (1 794.01 m2/g), and SSAC4, with an impregnation ratio of 1:5, exhibited the smallest microporosity (0.052 7 cm3/g) and the largest pore volume (2.549 cm3/g). The adsorption kinetics of AF using the four types of SSAC agreed with the quasi-second-order adsorption kinetic model. The Langmuir isotherm model was suitable to describe SSAC3 and SSAC4, and the Freundlich isotherm model was appropriate to describe SSAC1 and SSAC2. The result of thermodynamics showed that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. At 303 K, SSAC4 showed a removal rate of 97.73% for 200-mg/L AF with a maximum adsorption capacity of 2 763.36 mg/g, the highest among the four types of SSAC. This study showed that SAAC prepared by the H3PO4-based one-step activation method is a green and efficient carbon material and has significant application potential for the treatment of dye-containing wastewater. 展开更多
