Here, the author shares an accessible and high-level perspective on recent progress, surprises encountered, and promising future research directionsa. A brief context for the study of SW radiation is provided, after which three specific aspects are focused upon that the author considers particularly important. First, the significance of three-dimensional(3D) SW radiative effects is highlighted via impacts on surface downward SW radiation in complex cloud fields. Crucially, it is shown that probability distributions of surface radiation can only be reliably simulated when accounting for 3D effects, which has implications for various applications and next-generation atmospheric modeling. Second, the significance of the often overlooked diurnal cycle in global top-of-atmosphere upward SW radiation is underscored by quantifying the controlling properties and processes. Opportunities for improved future satellite observations of the global diurnal cycle are noted. Third, the wealth of information provided by the spectral dimension of SW radiation is demonstrated through the extraction and attribution of SW spectral signatures. It is argued that further exploration of the spectral dimension, aided by the recently launched and upcoming suite of spectrally resolved SW satellite observations, promises a new era of SW radiation research.展开更多

文摘This paper introduces a small perturbation frequency domain thermal analysis model based on the nonlinear dynamics model. The model can be applied to study the high-precision temperature control of thermal systems under low-frequency complex perturbations. The frequency domain characteristics of the space gravitational wave detection satellite are analyzed, and a multi-channel perturbation structure is established. The effects of three kinds of heat flow perturbations, including external heat flow, power generation power, and waste heat of electronic equipment,on the temperature through five transfer paths are investigated. It has been discovered that the waste heat from electronic equipment inside the satellite has the most noticeable effect on the temperature power spectral density of temperature-sensitive optical loads, serving as the primary factor influencing thermal stability. For complex noise signals, the small perturbation analysis method can decompose the different frequency components or ranges, reducing the problem to linearized analysis and simplifying complex calculations. The results indicate that the temperature power spectral density decreases as signal frequency increases, with low-frequency signals exerting a greater influence on temperature stability. The small perturbation analysis method is a novel and effective method for temperature control of space thermal systems, with high accuracy and stability.

文摘The study of shortwave(SW) radiation and its interactions with our planet has proven critical for advancing the understanding of the Earth–atmosphere system. It is argued that further exploration of the spectral dimension, aided by the recently launched and upcoming suite of spectrally resolved SW satellite observations, promises a new era of SW radiation research.
文摘This study explores theoretical insights and experimental results on monitoring load-carrying capacity degradation in bridge spans through frequency analysis.Experiments were conducted on real bridge structures, including the Binh Thuan Bridge, focusing on analyzing the power spectral density(PSD)of vibration signals under random traffic loads.Detailed digital models of various bridge spans with different structural designs and construction periods were developed to ensure diversity. The study utilized PSD to analyze the vibration signals from the bridge spans under various loading conditions, identifying the vibration frequencies and the corresponding response regions. The research correlated the observed frequency changes of PSD with the actual deterioration of the bridges over time, identifying patterns that indicate a reduction in stiffness.Experiments demonstrated that frequency changes, particularly in high-frequency regions, are directly related to a reduction in the stiffness of bridge spans. This supports the hypothesis that natural frequencies can serve as effective indicators of structural damage.Furthermore, the emergence and shift of resonant frequency regions provide valuable insights into the extent of damage in actual bridge spans, highlighting the potential for using changes in resonant frequency regions as a new tool for structural damage detection.

文摘An efficient data-driven numerical framework is developed for transient heat conduction analysis in thin-walled structures. The proposed approach integrates spectral time discretization with neural network approximation, forming a spectral-integrated neural network(SINN)scheme tailored for problems characterized by long-time evolution.Temporal derivatives are treated through a spectral integration strategy based on orthogonal polynomial expansions, which significantly alleviates stability constraints associated with conventional time-marching schemes.A fully connected neural network is employed to approximate the temperature-related variables, while governing equa-tions and boundary conditions are enforced through a physics-informed loss formulation.Numerical investigations demonstrate that the proposed method maintains high accuracy even when large time steps are adopted, where standard numerical solvers often suffer from instability or excessive computational cost. Moreover, the framework exhibits strong robustness for ultrathin configurations with extreme aspect ratios, achieving relative errors on the order of 10−5 or lower. These results indicate that the SINN framework provides a reliable and efficient alternative for transient thermal analysis of thin-walled structures under challenging computational conditions.

文摘The research findings on the ground motion and liquefaction potential analyses during the 2018 Great Indonesia Earthquake(M_(w)7.5)are significant and crucial. The earthquake triggered soil-structure damage due to liquefaction. This study, which thoroughly investigated four sites at Palu, was conducted by performing a comprehensive ground motion parameter analysis. The ground motion characteristics were presented and justified, particularly for the most impacted direction.Ground motion predictions were analysed to define the spectral accelerations, and matching spectral accelerations were conducted to produce ground motions for each site.Non-linear seismic ground response analysis based on the hyperbolic model of pressure pressure-dependent was performed to investigate cyclic soil behaviour. The results revealed that ground motion is crucial in significant soil damage, and the earthquake energy could trigger deep liquefaction. As the most significant ground motion, the vertical ground motion is essential in determining deep liquefaction. The discussion on the impact of liquefaction based on the results of the numerical analysis is presented.Significant ground motion with a longer duration could have a substantial impact on deep liquefaction in the study area. These findings depict how the 2018 Indonesia Earthquake(M_(w)7.5)triggered a mega-liquefaction in Palu City. The results could enhance the understanding of the importance of seismic hazard assessment. It is recommended that site investigation and soil improvement should be planned to counteract liquefaction damage before construction. This study also suggests conducting seismic hazard assessments for city development to minimise the potential disaster impact in the study area.

文摘Radiative cooling textiles with spectrally selective surfaces offer a promising energy-efficient approach for sub-ambient cooling of outdoor objects and individuals. However, the spectrally selective mid-infrared emission of these textiles significantly hinders their efficient radiative heat exchange with self-heated objects, thereby posing a significant challenge to their versatile cooling applicability.Herein,we present a bicomponent blow spinning strategy for the production of scalable,ultra-flexible,and healable textiles featuring a tailored dual gradient in both chemical composition and fiber diameter. The gradient in the fiber diameter of this textile introduces a hierarchically porous structure across the sunlight incident area, thereby achieving a competitive solar reflectivity of 98.7%on its outer surface.Additionally, the gradient in the chemical composition of this textile contributes to the formation of Janus infrared-absorbing surfaces:The outer surface demonstrates a high mid-infrared emission, whereas the inner surface shows a broad infrared absorptivity, facilitating radiative heat exchange with underlying self-heated objects.Consequently, this textile demonstrates multi-scenario radiative cooling capabilities, enabling versatile outdoor cooling for unheated objects by 7.8℃ and self-heated objects by 13.6℃,compared to commercial sunshade fabrics.

文摘The South Aral Seabed is an extreme dryland ecosystem undergoing rapid transformation yet remains misrepresented or absent in global land cover datasets.Conventional vegetation indices, specifically the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI),perform poorly in such environments due to their limited ability to distinguish sparse vegetation from highly reflective saline and sandy soils. This study evaluated the effectiveness of the Modified Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index(MSAVI)for improving land cover classification in the South Aral Seabed and conducted a decadal analysis of land cover change between 2013 and 2023 using Landsat 8 imagery(30 m resolution).A spectral index-based classification framework was developed, combining MSAVI with the Normalized Difference Water Index(NDWI)and Salinity Index 1(SI1)to reduce spectral confusion between vegetation, saline soils, and surface water. The MSAVI-based classification achieved an overall accuracy of 77.96%(Kappa coefficient=0.71),supported by 313 field-collected validation points from 2023.While the multi-index approach enabled finer discrimination of ecologically important classes, particularly separating salt pans from solonchak soils,it resulted in a lower overall accuracy(73.80%),highlighting a trade-off between class separability and classification performance.Land cover change analysis revealed a highly dynamic landscape, with 52.96%of the study area transitioning between classes over the decade.Transformed areas(16,893 km2)exceeded stable zones(15,004 km2),driven primarily by rapid desiccation and salinization.Solonchak soils increased at an annual rate of 5.58%,while surface water bodies declined by 4.83%per year.Concurrently, sparse or distressed vegetation increased by 1.43%annually,reflecting ongoing afforestation efforts. This study provides the first MSAVI-based and medium-resolution land cover baseline for the South Aral Seabed and demonstrates that soil-adjusted vegetation indices are essential for reliable dryland classification where conventional indices fail. The proposed spectral index framework offers a replicable methodology applicable to other global drylands facing similar land degradation and restoration challenges.

文摘This study employed tri-component continuous monitoring data from 10 measurement points on both sides of a base isolation layer in the basement of a large-span high-rise building in Beijing,as well as from a free-field station and roof frame, during a Mw 5.5 magnitude earthquake in Pingyuan,Shandong,in 2023.The H/V spectral ratio method was used to evaluate the structural dynamic response characteristics of the building and analyze the regulatory effect of the base-isolation layer on seismic waves. The results indicate that during the earthquake, the peak frequency of the free-field and the measurement points below the base-isolation layer was stable at 0.17 Hz,whereas the main frequency of the measurement points above the base-isolation layer increased to 0.75–1.18 Hz,which is 4–6 times greater than that of the points below. The amplitude was suppressed by more than 70%,confirming that the base isolation layer effectively isolated the low-frequency energy from the ground and increased the response frequency of the building. When the building was excited by an earthquake,a three-tier frequency gradient was formed throughout the building:“base-isolation layer(0.17 Hz)-main body(1.18 Hz)-roof frame(3.83 Hz)”,which can effectively avoid resonance of the entire building. In addition, the composite base-isolation device changed the dynamic characteristics of the structure. The resonance period was extended from 0.74 s(theoretical value without base isolation)to 5.9 s(calculated value),and the resonance frequency was reduced from 1.35 to 0.17 Hz.This finding indicates that the base-isolation layer can enhance seismic performance by increasing flexibility and damping.

文摘This study presents an effective hybrid simulation approach for simulating broadband ground motion in complex near-fault locations. The approach utilizes a deterministic approach based on the spectral element method(SEM),which is used to simulate low-frequency ground motion(f<1 Hz)by incorporating an innovative efficient discontinuous Galerkin(DG)method for grid division to accurately model basin sedimentary layers at reduced costs. It also introduces a comprehensive hybrid source model for high-frequency random scattering and a nonlinear analysis module for basin sedimentary layers.Deterministic outcomes are combined with modified three-dimensional stochastic finite fault method(3D-EXSIM)simulations of high-frequency ground motion(f>1 Hz).A fourth-order Butterworth filter with zero phase shift is employed for time-domain filtering of low-and high-frequency time series at a crossover frequency of 1 Hz,merging the low and high-frequency ground motions into a broadband time series.Taking an Ms 6.8 Luding earthquake,as an example, this hybrid method was used for a rapid and efficient simulation analysis of broadband ground motion in the region. The accuracy and efficiency of this hybrid method were verified through comparisons with actually observed station data and empirical attenuation curves.Deterministic method simulation results revealed the effects of mountainous topography, basin effects, nonlinear effects within the basin’s sedimentary layers, and a coupling interaction between the basin and the mountains. The findings are consistent with similar studies, showing that near-fault sedimentary basins significantly focus and amplify strong ground motion, and the soil’s nonlinear behavior in the basin influences ground motion to varying extents at different distances from the fault. The mountainous topography impacts the basin’s response to ground motion, leading to barrier effects. This research provides a scientific foundation for seismic zoning, urban planning, and seismic design in nearfault mountain basin regions.

文摘Sand dust belts span approximately one-fifth of the global land surface. In these regions, dust tends to settle on vegetation surfaces, altering the observed reflectance and affecting remote sensing detections. To enhance the accuracy of maize growth monitoring in dust-affected regions, this study aims to quantify the effect of sand dust retention on maize during the tasseling stage in the Kashgar Prefecture,Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region,China,by analyzing changes in canopy reflectance and vegetation indices.First, field sampling was conducted to measure the key canopy structure parameters and dust retention levels of maize, and laboratory spectral measurements were performed on leaf spectral properties under gradient dust retention. The measured data were then used to drive the LargE-Scale remote sensing data and image Simulation framework(LESS)model for simulating realistic maize canopy spectra across different dust levels, with validation against Sentinel-2 imagery.Second,on the basis of the simulated and satellite-derived spectra, the dust resistance of 36 common vegetation indices was systematically evaluated, and new robust dust-resistant indices were developed. The results showed that compared with dust-free maize, the canopy reflectance of dust-retained maize followed an increase–decrease–increase pattern, with critical turning points at 735 and 1325 nm.The maximum reflectance difference of–0.11755(change rate:29.002%)occurred within the 735–1325 nm range at 24 g/m^(2)dust retention, and the minimum reflectance difference of 0.04285(change rate:148.950%)was observed in the 350–735 nm range under the same dust retention level.Among the 36 vegetation indices, only the global environment monitoring index(GEMI)and the ratio of transformed chlorophyll absorption in reflectance index to optimized soil-adjusted vegetation index(TCARI/OSAVI)exhibited dust resistance, with GEMI being effective below 6 g/m^(2)and TCARI/OSAVI remaining stable across all levels(average ratio:0.970).The newly developed indices in this study,(RE3–RE2)/(NIR–RE2),(RE3–RE2)/(RE4–RE2),and(NIR–RE2)/(RE4–RE2),retained values within the predefined dust-resistant range over the full dust retention levels of 0–24 g/m^(2),thus showing a more stable dust resistance compared with the commonly used 36 vegetation indices.Specially,(RE3–RE2)/(RE4–RE2)performed the most robustly in Sentinel-2 imagery, that is,58.020%of pixels were within the dust-resistant range, and an average ratio of 0.937 was obtained for the original-spectra index. This study provides a scientific basis for crop monitoring and management in dust-affected regions.
