Cybersecurity Guide for SMEs: Protecting Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the Digital Era

Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are considered the backbone of global economy, but they often face cyberthreats which threaten their financial stability and operational continuity. Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are considered the backbone of global economy, but they often face cyberthreats which threaten their financial stability and operational continuity. This work aims to offer a proactive cybersecurity approach to safeguard SMEs against these threats. Furthermore, to mitigate these risks, we propose a comprehensive framework of practical and scalable cybersecurity measurements/protocols specifically for SMEs. These measures encompass a spectrum of solutions, from technological fortifications to employee training initiatives and regulatory compliance strategies, in an effort to cultivate resilience and awareness among SMEs. Additionally, we introduce a specially designed a Java-based questionnaire software tool in order to provide an initial framework for essential cybersecurity measures and evaluation for SMEs. This tool covers crucial topics such as social engineering and phishing attempts, implementing antimalware and ransomware defense mechanisms, secure data management and backup strategies and methods for preventing insider threats. By incorporating globally recognized frameworks and standards like ISO/IEC 27001 and NIST guidelines, this questionnaire offers a roadmap for establishing and enhancing cybersecurity measures. 展开更多

The Mediating Role of Technological Innovation Awareness on the Impact of SMEs’ Resources on Their Sustainable Growth in Lao PDR

This paper aims to investigate the effect of SME’s resources including,financial resources(FRR),financial literacy(FLR),managerial capacities(MCR)and market orientation(MKR)on SME’s sustainable growth(SG)in both financial SG(FSGE)and non-financial SG(NFSGE)terms;and to identify the technological innovation awareness(TIR)mediates the effect of these resources on SGSMEs.Data were collected from 517 SMEs,using survey method and adopted a random sampling technique.Structure Equation Model(SEM)and the Baron,and Kenny(1986)mediation approach,Amos was applied to test hypotheses.The findings revealed the resources contributed 41.9 percent and 32.9 percent of the variance in FSGE and NFSGE,respectively,and confirmed the mediating role of TIR in the relationship between resources and SG.Notably,FRR had an indirect effect on FSGE through TIR,although TIR partially mediated the relationship between FRR and NFSGE,and between FLR and SG,both in FSGE and NFSGE terms.While,TIR fully mediated the relationship between MKR and SG,both in FSGE and NFSGE terms as well.This evidence informs the importance of business resources and competencies.In particular,TIR plays an important role in business operations to enhance and maintain sustainable growth. 展开更多

The study on the factors affecting the performance of small and medium enterprises(SMEs)in Lao PDR aims at firstly investigating the general characteristics of SMEs in Lao PDR,and secondly defining the factors affecting business performance of small and medium enterprises in Lao PDR.The secondary data(2018)surveyed by World Bank enterprises were employed.The descriptive statistics were employed in order to see whether independent and dependent variables have impacts on SMEs’business performance.It was found that all small and medium enterprises were from family-based enterprises with no competition and no application of science and technology.It also revealed that the experiences of managers,services,duration of business implementation,number of laborers,number of trainings,export,access to finance,and innovation have significant relationship with SMEs’business performance.Whereas,it was found that gender of managers,size of SMEs,location,type of enterprises:manufacturing and retail,have no significant relationship with SMEs’business performance in Lao PDR. 展开更多

Empirical Research on Supply Chain Finance Innovation Promoting Environmental Governance and Ecological Protection of SMEs

This research examines the relationship between supply chain finance innovation and environmental governance effectiveness among SMEs,with technological capability as mediator and institutional support as moderator.Unlike previous isolated analyses,this study develops an integrated framework capturing the interplay between financial mechanisms and environmental outcomes.The innovative analytical approach incorporates“hard”and“soft”indicators,blockchain-based environmental performance management,and regulatory-financial integration.Hierarchical regression analysis of data from 1,682 manufacturing SMEs(2019–2023)reveals that supply chain finance innovation significantly improves environmental governance effectiveness(β=0.412,p<0.01),with 32.9%mediated through technological capability.Institutional support demonstrates substantial moderating effects(β=0.228,p<0.01),emphasizing the combined influence of finance innovation and technological capability on environmental outcomes.Cross-sectional analysis shows these effects are stronger among larger firms,private enterprises,and in developed regions.The findings enhance understanding of how financial innovation interacts with environmental sustainability through technological capability while highlighting institutional support’s importance.This research contributes to policy formulation and practice by demonstrating how innovative financial mechanisms can encourage improved environmental governance among SMEs. 展开更多

Big data analytics has been widely adopted by large companies to achieve measurable benefits including increased profitability,customer demand forecasting,cheaper development of products,and improved stock control.Small and medium sized enterprises(SMEs)are the backbone of the global economy,comprising of 90%of businesses worldwide.However,only 10%SMEs have adopted big data analytics despite the competitive advantage they could achieve.Previous research has analysed the barriers to adoption and a strategic framework has been developed to help SMEs adopt big data analytics.The framework was converted into a scoring tool which has been applied to multiple case studies of SMEs in the UK.This paper documents the process of evaluating the framework based on the structured feedback from a focus group composed of experienced practitioners.The results of the evaluation are presented with a discussion on the results,and the paper concludes with recommendations to improve the scoring tool based on the proposed framework.The research demonstrates that this positioning tool is beneficial for SMEs to achieve competitive advantages by increasing the application of business intelligence and big data analytics. 展开更多

Stock liquidity,financial constraints,and innovation in Chinese SMEs

This study investigates the relationship between stock liquidity and firm innovation for publicly traded growing small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs)in China using both innovation input and output.We collected samples of 785 SMEs from China’s Shenzhen Growth Enterprises Market without the financial industry from 2010 to 2020.The empirical findings demonstrate a significant positive relationship between stock liquidity and both innovation input,as measured by R&D investments,and innovation output,as proxied by patenting activities.A series of robustness tests demonstrate the reliability of our results.Increased liquidity enhances SMEs'innovation mainly by alleviating financial constraints,whereas the mediating effect of mergers and acquisitions(M&A)is not apparent at the firm level.Furthermore,the inhibitory effect of blockholder ownership on firm innovation is weak.Further analysis reveals that this favorable impact can last for at least four years,with manufacturing SMEs benefiting the most.Our study shows that the innovation abilities of SMEs can be enhanced by improving stock liquidity,which is mainly driven by tackling financial constraints. 展开更多

为实现超导储能装置(SMES-Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage)与输配电网之间的协调作用,达到提高电网输送容量、暂态稳定性和电压稳定性,提高配电网电能质量的目的。根据SMES的结构特点,结合目前大功率电力电子器件以及电路拓... 为实现超导储能装置(SMES-Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage)与输配电网之间的协调作用,达到提高电网输送容量、暂态稳定性和电压稳定性,提高配电网电能质量的目的。根据SMES的结构特点,结合目前大功率电力电子器件以及电路拓扑的发展趋势,设计了一台三单相H桥分立控制的电压型换流器(VSI-Voltage source inverter)及其控制系统平台。该电压型换流器采用三相器件独立运行结构,控制系统采用数字信号处理器(DSP-Digital Signal Processing)设计,在功能上实现了对串联于电力线路的注入电压幅值和相位的灵活控制,最后给出了一台20 kW电压型换流器原理样机对母线电压补偿功能的试验结果,试验结果表明,该电压型换流器可以满足超导储能系统的需要。 展开更多
