The study of sequence stratigraphy often focuses on shallow marine and shelf-edge regions, while research on deep-sea stratigraphic sequences remains relatively weak. This study, based on highresolution 3D seismic data and drilling information, utilized sequence stratigraphy and seismic sedimentology as guidelines, and employed seismic interpretation methods to performed a division of deepsea stratigraphic sequences within the Romney 3D seismic survey area in the deep-water Taranaki Basin,New Zealand.Furthermore,it analyzed the characteristics of typical depositional systems and their associated controlling factors. The findings are as follows:(1)Based on seismic reflection termination relationships and seismic facies characteristics, four second-order sequence boundaries and nine thirdorder sequence boundaries were identified, resulting in the delineation of three second-order sequences and twelve third-order sequences in the basin.(2)Five seismic facies were recognized, corresponding to five typical sedimentary bodies:mass transport deposits(MTDs),deep-water channel, levee deposits, deltaic deposits, and pelagic deposits. However, due to the relatively thin sedimentary thickness of carbonate sediments, the seismic facies characteristics of carbonate sediments cannot be discerned in seismic data, but can be identified based on well data.Deltaic sediments mainly developed during the rift stage of the basin, while carbonate sediments formed during the transition from a passive to an active margin.Deep-water channel and levee deposits and MTDs emerged during the active margin stage, while pelagic deposits are ubiquitous in marine environments.(3)The uplift of New Zealand's interior and climate-driven erosion caused the resurgence of clastic sediments, which began to be transported to the deep sea,the seafloor topography would directly affect the movement path of sediment gravity flow, and sediment supply can affect the development and evolution of sedimentary systems.(4)Event deposits boundaries, such as erosional scour surfaces formed by channels and unconformities created by MTDs,can serve as boundaries for the division of deep-water stratigraphic sequences. This study proposes a method for delineating deep-water stratigraphic sequences using event deposits, particularly suitable under conditions where the influence of relative sea-level changes on deep-water deposits is relatively weak. This research not only enhances the understanding of deep-water depositional sequences but also provides a reference for studies on the evolution of deep-water deposition and its controlling factors in research areas with similar geological backgrounds worldwide. 展开更多

Due to the lack of the three-dimensional structure of the Zhaoji Salt Basin, the salt mining enterprises have obvious clustering when choosing sites.Production capacity declines rapidly as mining deepens, and the enterprises are entering a stage of stagnation in production. In this study,a dense seismic array of 125 short-period stations was deployed around the core mining area and its vicinity of the salt mine industry,we used the ambient noise tomography(ANT)method to image the three-dimensional shear wave velocity structure at the depth shallower than 3 km.The results indicate:(1)The overall shear wave velocity in the study area is relatively lower, ranging from 0.8 to 1.8 km/s,which could be related to the loose and thick deposition of the Zhaoji sub-depression.(2)The three-dimensional shear wave velocity structure reveals that the sedimentary thickness of the Zhaoji sub-depression is deeper in the southeast and shallower in the northwest, with the sedimentary center located around Heping Town and Dahuangzhuang Town.(3)The Zhaoji salt mine is a low-velocity anomalous zone in the shear wave velocity structure with an inverse‘C'character spreading along Nanchenji Town and Zhaoji Town, with a depth ranging from approximately 1.2 to 2.8 km,it may be caused by the development of rock fissures due to water extraction and injection. The surrounding rock exhibits relatively high velocity, which reflects the morphological characteristics of the Zhaoji Salt Basin. The three-dimensional shear wave velocity model obtained in this study provides scientific guidance for the industrial exploitation of the Zhaoji salt mine and reference for salt exploration of the Hongze Salt Basin. It also provides an important basis for the seismic risk assessment of the salt basins.Simultaneously,it holds significant implications for exploring the application of ambient noise tomography method in spatial detection of salt mine belt. 展开更多

Continental crust is the long-term achievements of Earth's evolution across billions of years. The continental rocks could have been modified by various types of geological processes, such as metamorphism, weathering, and reworking. Therefore, physical or chemical properties of rocks through time record the composite effects of geological, biological, hydrological, and climatological processes.Temporal variations in these time series datasets could provide important clues for understanding the co-evolution of different layers on Earth. However, deciphering Earth's evolution in deep time is challenged by incompleteness, singularity, and intermittence of geological records associated with extreme geological events, hindering a rigorous assessment of the underlying coupling mechanisms. Here,we applied the recently developed local singularity analysis and wavelet analysis method to deep-time U-Pb age spectra and sedimentary abundance record across the past 3.5 Gyrs.Standard cross-correlation analysis suggests that the singularity records of marine sediment accumulations and magmatism intensity at continental margin are correlated negatively(R^(2)=0.8),with a delay of~100 Myr.Specifically, wavelet coherence analysis suggests a~500-800 Myr cycle of correlation between two records, implying a coupling between the major downward processes(subduction and recycling sediments)and upward processes(magmatic events)related to the aggregation and segregation of supercontinents. The results clearly reveal the long-term cyclic feedback mechanism between sediment accumulation and magmatism intensity through aggregation of supercontinents. 展开更多

The Central Yunnan Basin(CYB)that tectonically located on the southwest margin of the Yangtze Block and to the eastern segment of the Paleo-Tethys tectonic domain,is a typical‘red bed'sedimentary basin formed since Late Triassic. The CYB is composed of mega-thick fluvial and lacustrine facies successions. However, the tectonic evolution and sedimentary provenance studies on this basin are scarce. In this study,we report new detrital zircon ages of four sandstones from the Lower Jurassic Fengjiahe Formation(FJF),including four major clusters of 2060-1810,870-760,485-430,and 280-254 Ma,with sporadic Archean,Cambrian, and Triassic ages.We interpret that the Archaean and Proterozoic zircons were mainly derived from the western Yangtze Block, which may recycle from the Jiangnan Orogen, the Cathaysia Block and the Proterozoic igneous rocks.Ordovician and Silurian zircons were probably from the Ailaoshan orogenic belt, and the Lancang Group in western Yunnan,as well as the Yangtze,Cathaysia and Indosinian blocks.Permian zircons probably came from the Ailaoshan orogenic belt and the Emeishan basalt. The youngest zircon age of~212.9 Ma indicates that the depositional age of the FJF is younger than the Norian stage. We also proposed a geodynamic model of the CYB and the Ailaoshan orogenic belt during the Mesozoic. The Simao Block to the west of the CYB constituted the Ailaoshan orogenic belt and collaged with the Yangtze Block during the Early Triassic, provided sedimentary provenance to the CYB.The Changning-Menglian zone that composed of the Baoshan and the Simao Blocks, uplifted in the Late Triassic and provided provenance to the CYB.Collapse of the Ailaoshan orogenic belt in Late Triassic probably provided channel for source materials that transported from the Lincang granites to the CYB.We propose a transtensional tectonic setting of the central Yunnan during the Early Jurassic, after a short collision during the Indosinian Movement in the Late Triassic. 展开更多

The relationship between marine transgression and the distribution of lacustrine organic matter has restricted shale oil and gas exploration for decades. In this study, the research objective is to analyze the sedimentary environment and evaluate its influence on organic matter in transgressive lacustrine shale. The study uses various analyses including total organic carbon(TOC),Rock-Eval pyrolysis, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS),trace element and isotope analysis. Finally, the study proposes an enrichment model for organic matter. The lacustrine shale of the second member of the Funing Formation(E_(1)f^(2))is divided into three sequences. The results indicate that the depositional environment of the organic matter during this period was an arid and humid, reduced, closed, rift lake basin. In the first sequence, high salinity resulted from increased evaporation, leading to low primary biological productivity. At this time, the lake basin belonged to a salinized closed lake basin.Intermittent transgressions began in the second sequence, with the deep lake area still being dominated by a reducing environment. The third sequence saw the environment evolve into a closed lake basin characterized by a warm and humid freshwater environment with high primary productivity.Marine transgressions introduce a substantial amount of marine plankton, nutrient elements,as well as more CO_(2) and CO_(3)^(2−)into the lake, leading to increased primary productivity. The sedimentary model for transgressive lacustrine source rocks proposed here serves as an example for similar transgressive lake basins. 展开更多

Cone penetration testing(CPT)and its variant with pore pressure measurements(CPTu)are versatile tools that have been traditionally used for in situ geotechnical site investigations. These investigations are among the most challenging yet indispensable tasks, providing a crucial reference for infrastructure planning, design and construction. However, data obtained through the CPT/CPTu testing often exhibit significant variability, even at closely spaced test points. This variability is primarily attributed to the complex mineral compositions and sedimentary process of the Quaternary sediments.Problems induced by the scattering data include the difficulties in estimating the shear strength of the sediments and determining the appropriate bearing stratum for pile foundations. In this paper, the conventional interpretation methods of the CPT/CPTu data are enhanced with sedimentary facies knowledge. The geotechnical investigation mainly involves 42 CPTu tests(39 essential data sets available)and 4 boring samples.Sediment types are interpreted from the CPTu data and calibrated by the nearby boring samples.Sedimentary facies are derived from the interpreted sequence stratigraphy, for which the interpretation skills are summarized in the form of characteristic curves of the CPTu data.Scattering distribution of the sediment types and their mechanical parameters are well explained by the sedimentary facies. The sediments are then categorized into a few groups by their sedimentary facies, resulting in reduced uncertainties and scattering in terms of shear strength.Bearing stratum of pile foundations is also suggested based on the sedimentary regulations. 展开更多

Rare earth elements were extracted using a sulfuric acid roasting-water leaching process. The effect of acid roasting on a new type of low-grade sedimentary rare earth ore found in Guizhou Province,China was analyzed using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.A systematic study was conducted on process parameters such as amount of acid, roasting temperature, roasting time, water leaching temperature, and leaching time. The results reveal that the total recove ry of rare earth elements reaches 81.37%,which is 3.1 times higher than that achieved through direct acid leaching, under the optimal conditions. In addition, the leaching rate of heavy rare earth elements reaches 72.53%.Rare earth elements and some other valuable metals are transformed into soluble sulfate through the local decomposition of clay minerals under the action of the sulfuric acid attack. The dissolution rates of aluminum, iron, and titanium ions are 34.94%,17.05%,and 62.77%,respectively.The precipitation rate of Ti reaches 99%,and the loss of rare earth ions in the solution is less than 1%.Meanwhile,the results of a leaching kinetics analysis indicate that the leaching process of rare ions is controlled by diffusion.Precious metal ions such as iron and aluminum in the leaching solution can reduce the adsorption of rare earth ions by kaolinite. This study efficiently recovered rare earth ions under conditions of low calcination te mperature and direct water leaching, resulting in reduced energy consumption of the extraction process and acidity of the leaching solution. These findings provide a solid foundation for the further separation and extraction of rare earth ions. 展开更多

Sandy braided river deposits are widely preserved in ancient stratigraphic records and act as a significant type of hydrocarbon reservoir.Due to the frequent and rapid migration of channels within the riverbed, the sedimentary architecture is highly complex. In this paper,a flume experiment was conducted to reveal the detailed depositional process and establish a fine sedimentary architecture model for sandy braided rivers. The result showed that(1)Three types of braid channels, including the lateral migration channel, the confluence channel, and the deep incised channel, were recognized based on geometry, scale, distribution, and spatial patterns;they are interconnected, forming a complex channel network.(2)Braid channels were characterized by lateral migration, abandonment, filling, and chute cutoff.Lateral migration of channels shaped the braid bars and dominated the formation, growth, and reworking of braid bars.(3)Controlled by the fast and frequent variations of the braid channel network, braid bars were continuously formed, reworked, reshaped, and composited of multiple accretions with different types, orientations, scales, and preservation degrees.Symmetrical and asymmetrical braid bars pre-sented significantly different composition patterns.(4)Dominated by the continuous reworking of braid channels, temporary deposits were limited preserved, braid channel deposits account for 54.3 percent of the eventually preserved braided river deposits, and four types of amalgamate patterns were recognized.Braid bars were cut and limited preserved, only accounting for 45.7 percent of the eventually preserved braided river deposits.(5)During the experiment, only 28 percent of near-surface temporary deposits were eventually preserved in fragmented forms with the final experimental braided river;the shape, spatial patterns, and most of the deposits observed during the depositional process were largely reworked and poorly preserved.(6)The scale of eventually preserved braid bars and braid channels is significantly smaller than the temporary deposits from geomorphic observations. The aspect ratio of the eventually preserved braid bars and the width-to-depth ratio of the eventually preserved braid channel are also significantly different from that of the temporary ones measured from topography data. 展开更多

Since the Paleozoic, the tectonic evolution of northeastern Eurasia has been primarily influenced by the Paleo-Asian Ocean and the Paleo-Pacific tectonic domains. However, the spatial and temporal frameworks,as well as the timing of the tectonic transition between these two oceanic domains, remain unclear. For addressing these issues,we present petrological, geochronological, and geochemical data for andesite and sandstone samples from the Seluohe Group along the Jilin-Yanji Suture between the Jiamusi-Khanka Block and the North China Craton. The geochemical results indicate that the andesite sample is high-Mg andesite. Its magma source was generated by the metasomatized mantle wedge influenced by fluids derived from the subducted slab in a continental island arc setting. The high-Mg andesite gives the crystallization ages of Early Triassic(249±3 Ma).The sandstone is immature greywacke with a maximum depositional age of Early Triassic(247±1 Ma),and its sediments primarily originate from concurrent magmatic rocks within a juvenile continental arc.Based on our new findings,we propose that the Seluohe Group represents an Early Triassic volcanic-sedimentary association with continental island arc characteristics associated with the southwestward subduction of the Heilongjiang Ocean. We identified a sedimentary basin intimately associated with one or more continental arcs along the northeastern edge of the North China Craton. We suggest that the southwestward subduction of the Jilin-Heilongjiang Ocean in the Early Mesozoic accounts for this continental arc setting. There is a distinct temporal gap between the closure of the Paleo-Asian Ocean(ca.260 Ma)and the onset of Paleo-Pacific plate subduction(234–220 Ma),which is essentially coeval with the southwestward subduction of the Jilin-Heilongjiang Ocean between 255 Ma and 239 Ma. 展开更多

The Cambrian Qiongzhusi Formation in the Sichuan Basin harbors significant potential for shale gas harvesting. However, systematic disparities in mineral composition and reservoir architecture have been observed between intra-and extra-trough reservoirs within the Deyang-Anyue Rift Trough. These variations were primarily determined by divergences in the sedimentary environments developed during the evolution of the rift trough, which were a main factor in fostering the heterogeneous distribution of shale gas enrichment found today. However, the genetic mechanisms that govern reservoir heterogeneity across distinct structural domains(intra-trough,trough margin, and extra-trough)remain poorly understood, particularly regarding the coupling relationships between depositional environments, reservoir characteristics, and gas-bearing properties. This study adopts a multidisciplinary approach to investigating this issue that integrates core analysis,well-log interpretations, and geochemical data.Through systematic comparisons conducted using X-ray diffraction mineralogy, organic carbon quantification, and spontaneous imbibition experiments,we characterize the mineral assemblages, organic geochemical signatures, and pore structures found across the three structural domains of the Deyang-Anyue Rift Trough. The key findings are as follows:(1)The depositional environment is the main influence on reservoir distribution and organic matter enrichment, with intra-trough shales exhibiting a higher abundance of organic matter than their trough-margin and extra-trough counterparts.(2)Enhanced brittleness in intra-trough zones correlates with the predominance of biogenic silica therein.(3)Synergistic organic-inorganic interactions govern pore system development.(4)Gas-bearing capacity is jointly determined by effective porosity and organic matter content. These findings establish the rift trough as a preferential exploration target, providing critical geological guidance for optimizing shale gas exploration strategies in the Cambrian Qiongzhusi Formation. 展开更多

A polymetallic layer is usually developed at the bottom of the early Cambrian black shale in Guizhou Province. The mineral that makes up the polymetallic layer is related to the sedimentary facies. To analyze the differentiation mechanism between polymetallic deposits(Ni-Mo and V),the Zhijin Gezhongwu profile located in the outer shelf and the Sansui Haishan V deposit located in the lower slope are selected to study the in situ sulfur isotopes and trace elements of pyrite. The results show that δ^(34)S values of pyrite vary widely from−7.8‰to 28‰in the Gezhongwu profile, while the δ^(34)S values are relatively uniform(from 27.8‰to 38.4‰)in the Haishan profile. The isotopic S composition is consistent with the transition that occurs in the sedimentary phase from the shelf to the deep sea on the transgressive Yangtze platform;this indicates that the δ^(34)SO_(4)^(2−)values in seawater must be differently distributed in depositional environments. The sulfur in the Ni-Mo layer is produced after the mixing of seawater and hydrothermal fluid, while the V layer mainly originates from seawater.Overall, the Ni-Mo and V deposits have been differentiated primarily on the basis of the combined effect of continental weathering and hydrothermal fluid. 展开更多

Seafloor topography plays an important role in the evolution of submarine lobes. However,it is still not so clear how the shape of slope affects the three-dimensional(3-D)architecture of submarine lobes. In this study,we analyze the effect of topography factors on different hierarchical lobe architectures that formed during Pliocene to Quaternary in the Rovuma Basin offshore East Africa. We characterize the shape, size and growth pattern of different hierarchical lobe architectures using 3-D seismic data.We find that the relief of the topographic slope determines the location of preferential deposition of lobe complexes and single lobes. When the topography is irregular and presents topographic lows, lobe complexes first infill these depressions.Single lobes are deposited preferentially at positions with higher longitudinal(i.e.across-slope)slope gradients. As the longitudinal slope becomes higher, the aspect ratio of the single lobes increases.Lateral(i.e.along-slope)topography does not seem to have a strong influence on the shape of single lobe, but it seems to affect the overlap of single lobes. When the lateral slope gradient is relatively high, the single lobes tend to have a larger overlap surface.Furthermore,as the average of lateral slope and longitudinal slope gets greater, the width/thickness ratio of the single lobe is smaller,i.e.sediments tend to accumulate vertically. The results demonstrate that the shape of slopes more comprehensively influences the 3-D architecture of lobes in natural deep-sea systems than previously other lobe deposits and analogue experiments, which helps us better understand the development and evolution of the distal parts of turbidite systems. 展开更多

To solve the problems in restoring sedimentary facies and predicting reservoirs in loose gas-bearing sediment, based on seismic sedimentologic analysis of the first 9-component S-wave 3D seismic dataset of China,a fourth-order isochronous stratigraphic framework was set up and then sedimentary facies and reservoirs in the Pleistocene Qigequan Formation in Taidong area of Qaidam Basin were studied by seismic geomorphology and seismic lithology. The study method and thought are as following.Firstly, techniques of phase rotation, frequency decomposition and fusion, and stratal slicing were applied to the 9-component S-wave seismic data to restore sedimentary facies of major marker beds based on sedimentary models reflected by satellite images. Then, techniques of seismic attribute extraction, principal component analysis, and random fitting were applied to calculate the reservoir thickness and physical parameters of a key sandbody, and the results are satisfactory and confirmed by blind testing wells.Study results reveal that the dominant sedimentary facies in the Qigequan Formation within the study area are delta front and shallow lake. The RGB fused slices indicate that there are two cycles with three sets of underwater distributary channel systems in one period.Among them, sandstones in the distributary channels of middle-low Qigequan Formation are thick and broad with superior physical properties, which are favorable reservoirs. The reservoir permeability is also affected by diagenesis.Distributary channel sandstone reservoirs extend further to the west of Sebei-1 gas field, which provides a basis to expand exploration to the western peripheral area. 展开更多

The Wutonggou iron deposit is located in the well-known iron metallogenic belt in the eastern Tianshan,NW China, and has been regarded as a sedimentary iron deposit.Although hydrothermal overprinting could play indispensable roles in the formation of high-grade iron ores in sedimentary iron deposits, previous studies mainly focused on sedimentary-related iron mineralization, while the nature and contribution of hydrothermal fluids are poorly constrained.Accordingly,an integrated study of ore geology,H-O-C isotopes and^(40)Ar-^(39)Ar dating,is conducted on the Wutonggou deposit,in order to reveal the features, source, and timing of hydrothermal mineralization. The studied deposit includes two mining sections namely the Jianshan and Wutonggou.Theδ^(18)O values of early magnetite from the Jianshan section range from+3.0‰to+5.8‰that nearly consistent with classic magmatic magnetite, while increase to 6.3‰-8.0‰in the late stage.Quartz from the two sections shows comparable H-O isotopic compositions and identical fractionation trends, and is plotted in or periphery to the primary magmatic water area.Calcites from the two sections are broadly similar in carbon and oxygen isotopic compositions, and siderite from the Wutonggou section is plotted in the same region. Thus, comparable stable isotopic compositions and evolution trends indicate similar magmatic fluids contributed hydrothermal iron mineralization in the two mining sections.Moreover,water-rock interactions of varying degrees generated distinct mineralization styles in the Jianshan and Wutonggou sections, and caused the isotopic fractionation in late stages.Biotite extracted from a hydrothermal siderite ore yielded a^(40)Ar-^(39)Ar plateau age of 299.5±2.0 Ma,indicates the timing of hydrothermal iron mineralization is corresponding to the emplacement of vicinity granitoids.Taken together, the hydrothermal mineralization in the Wutonggou iron deposit was the product of remobilization and upgrading of early sedimentary iron ores, and ore-forming fluids were most probably originated from regional granitic magmatism. 展开更多

The study of sedimentary mélanges holds pivotal importance in understanding orogenic processes and unveiling geodynamic mechanisms. In this study,we present findings on zircon U-Pb isotopes and whole-rock elemental data concerning the recently uncovered Zongzhuo Formation sedimentary mélanges within the Dingri area.Field observations reveal the predominant composition of the Zongzhuo Formation, characterized by a matrix of sandstone-mudstone mixed with sand-conglomerates within native blocks exhibiting soft sediment deformation. Moreover, exotic blocks originating from littoral-neritic seas display evidence of landslide deformation. Our study identifies the depositional environment of the Zongzhuo Formation in Dingri as a slope turbidite fan, with its provenance traced back to the passive continental margin.Notably, this contrasts with the Zongzhuo Formation found in the Jiangzi-Langkazi area.Based on existing data,we conclude that the Zongzhuo Formation in the Dingri area was influenced by the Dingri-Gamba fault and emerged within a fault basin of the passive continental margin due to Neo-Tethys oceanic subduction during the Late Cretaceous period. Its provenance can be attributed to the littoral-neritic sea of the northern Tethys Himalaya region. This study holds significant implications for understanding the tectonic evolution of Tethys Himalaya and for reevaluating the activity of the Dingri-Gamba fault,as it controls the active deposition of the Zongzhuo Formation. 展开更多

A sediment core(YJK19-02)collected from the southern outlet of Hangzhou Bay near the Yongjiang River estuary in East China was analyzed for grain size, lignin, bulk elemental composition, stable carbon isotope, and rare earth elements(REEs)to determine the sources and diagenesis of sedimentary organic matter(OM)of the estuary and adjacent areas since the Late Pleistocene.δ^(13)C values(-24.80‰–-23.60‰),total organic carbon/total nitrogen(TOC/TN)molar ratios(8.00–12.14),and light rare earth element/heavy rare earth element ratios(LREE/HREE=8.34–8.91)revealed the predominance of terrestrial sources of OM,mainly from the Changjiang(Yangtze)River. The lignin parameters of syringyl/vanillyl(S/V=0.20–0.73)and cinnamyl/vanillyl(C/V=0.03–0.19)ratios indicate the predominance of nonwoody angiosperms, and the vanillic acid/vanillin ratios[(Ad/Al)_(V)=0.32–1.57]indicate medium to high degrees of lignin degradation. An increasing trend ofΛ(total lignin in mg/100-mg OC)values from ca.14500 a BP to ca.11000 a BP reflected the increase in temperature during the Late Pleistocene. However,a time lag effect of temperature on vegetation abundance was also revealed. The relatively higher and stableΛvalues correspond to the higher temperature during the mid-Holocene from ca.8500 a BP to ca.4500 a BP.Λvalues decreased from ca.4000 a BP to the present, corresponding to historical temperature fluctuations during this time. Our results show that the vegetation abundance in the Yongjiang River Basin since the Late Pleistocene was related to the temperature fluctuation duo to climate change. 展开更多

Zhanjiang Bay is a major aquaculture area in China with many types of mariculture products(such as oysters, fish, and shrimp). The culture area and shrimp output in Zhanjiang Bay are ranked first in China. We investigated the total organic carbon(TOC),total nitrogen(TN),TOC/TN ratio, and stable isotopes(δ^(13)C and δ^(15)N) of the fish and shrimp feed, fish and shrimp feces, and sedimentary organic matter(SOM) in and around different aquaculture areas of northeastern Zhanjiang B ay to study the impact of aquaculture activities on SOM.The average TOC contents of fish and shrimp feed were 39.20%±0.91% and 39.29%±0.21%,respectively.The average TOC content in the surface sediments of the oyster culture area, the mixed(fish and shrimp) culture area, and the cage fish farm area were 0.66%,0.88%±0.10%,and 0.58%±0.19%,respectively,which may indicate that mixed culture had a greater impact on SOM.The relatively high TOC and TN contents and relatively low TOC/TN ratios, and δ^(15)N values in the upper layer of the core sediment in the mixed culture area could also support the significant influence of mixed culture. The average δ^(13)C and δ^(15)N values of fish and shrimp feed were -20.6‰±2.2‰ and 1.8‰±1.2‰,respectively,which were different from the isotopic values of SOM in the study area.δ^(13)C and δ^(15)N values for SOM in different aquaculture areas were different from those of nearby reference stations, probably reflecting the influence of aquaculture. The δ^(13)C and δ^(15)N values in the oyster culture area(-25.9‰ and6.0‰,respectively) seemed to have reduced δ^(13)C and enriched δ^(15)N relative to those of the reference station(-24.6‰ and 5.8‰,respectively).This may reflect the influence of organic matter on oyster culture. The δ^(15)N value of the station in the mixed culture area(7.1‰±0.4‰) seemed to be relatively enriched in δ^(15)N relative to that of the reference station(6.6‰).Sedimentation and the subsequent degradation of organic matter from mixed cultures may have contributed to this phenomenon. The surface sediment at the cage fish farm area seemed to be affected by fish feces and primary production based on the indication of δ^(13)C and δ^(15)N values. The sediment core at the mixed culture region(NS6) had lower TOC/TN ratios and more positive δ^(13)C and δ^(15)N values than the sediment core at the oyster culture area, suggesting a higher proportionate contribution of marine organic matter in the mixed culture area.In summary, oyster culture, mixed culture, and cage fish culture in northeastern Zhanjiang Bay had a certain degree of impact on SOM,and mixed culture had more significant influences on SOM based on the high TOC contents and the significant vertical variations of TOC/TN ratio and δ^(15)N value in the sediment of this area. This study provides new insights into the impact of aquaculture activities on SOM content. 展开更多

Bioturbation is one of the important processes that affect the structure and function of sedimentary environments. The particle mixing and element migration processes caused by bioturbation can interfere with the circulation of matter and the explanation of sedimentary records. Therefore, the quantitative characterization of bioturbation structures in the sedimentary sequence is of great significance in the field of sedimentology.Estuaries, where fresh and saltwater mix, exhibit high ecological heterogeneity and biodiversity, making them ideal places to explore bioturbation. This paper targets the subaqueous Yellow River Delta to quantitatively characterize bioturbation structures and their spatial distribution patterns using computed tomography(CT)scanning and three-dimensional reconstruction technology.By combining sediment characteristics and sedimentary environment analysis, the main factors affecting bioturbation structures are elucidated. The results show that bioturbation structures in the subaqueous Yellow River Delta can be divided into four types based on their morphology:uniaxial type, biaxial type, triaxial type, and multiaxial type.Skolithos,Palaeophycus in the uniaxial type, and Thalassinoides in the multiaxial type are the most developed structures.Different types of bioturbation may be constructed by trace-making organisms belonging to the same category or functional group. The intensity of bioturbation in this area ranges from 0 to 4%,with a decreasing trend from nearshore to offshore. There is a downward decreasing trend in the intensity of bioturbation overall in the sedimentary cores, with three vertical distribution patterns:exponential decay pattern, fluctuating decay pattern, and impulsive pattern. The impulsive pattern of bioturbation in a core may indicate the abrupt change in sedimentary environment induced by the Yellow River channel shift in 1996.These results suggest that factors affecting the development of bioturbation include grain size, porosity, consolidation, organic matter content of sediments, and sedimentation rate that is mainly influenced by local hydrodynamic conditions. The environment with clayey silt(average grain size 10μm)and moderate sedimentation rate(around 0.5 cm yr^(-1))is the most suitable area for the development of bioturbation in the Yellow River subaqueous delta. 展开更多

The right bank of the Amu Darya Basin enjoys abundant natural gas resources,on which the Callovian-Oxfordian strata in the middle of Block B serve as the major horizons for natural gas production. However, the characteristics and distribution patterns of the sedimentary microfacies in these strata are yet to be further explored.Based on the analysis of data on drilling, logging, cores, and thin sections from 29 typical wells,as well as the regional sedimentary background, this study inferred that the middle of Block B evolved from the Callovian ramp platform into the Oxfordian rimmed platform. Moreover, this study determined that the inner-ramp intertidal-subtidal shallow-water subfacies mainly developed during the Callovian and transitioned into the shallow shelf subfacies during the Oxfordian. This study identified eight sedimentary microfacies, namely reef knoll,reef-shoal complex, bioclastic shoal, psammitic shoal, bioherm, lime mud mound, intershoal(intermound),and static-water mud.Based on research into the high-precision sequence-sedimentary microfacies framework, this study built a geological model for the development of sedimentary microfacies in the study area.According to this geological model, the sedimentary microfacies in the study area are characterized by vertical alternation of reef-shoal complex, bioclastic(psammitic)shoal, bioherm, and intershoal microfacies. Moreover, they show the development of reef knoll,reef-shoal complex, bioclastic(psammitic)shoal, and bioherm(or lime mud mound)laterally from west to east, with the physical properties of the reservoirs deteriorating from west to east accordingly. The microfacies of reef-shoal complex and the bioclastic(psammitic)shoal predominate in the study area, and their deposition and development are controlled by sequence boundaries and are also affected by paleo-landforms.The Oxfordian reef-shoal complexes were largely inherited from the Callovian uplifts and show lateral seaward progradation. 展开更多

Upper Ordovician-Lower Silurian Wufeng-Longmaxi Formation is the most developed strata of shale gas in southern China.Due to the complex sedimentary environment adjacent to the Kangdian Uplift, the favorable area for organic-rich shale development is still undetermined. The authors, therefore, focus on the mechanism of accumulation of organic matter and the characterization of the sedimentary environment of the Wufeng-Longmaxi Shales to have a more complete understanding and new discovering of organic matter enrichment and favorable area in the marginal region around Sichuan Basin.Multiple methods were applied in this study, including thin section identification, scanning electron microscopy(SEM)observations and X-ray diffraction(XRD),and elemental analysis on outcrop samples.Five lithofacies have been defined according to the mineralogical and petrological analyses, including mudstone, bioclastic limestone, silty shale, dolomitic shale, and carbonaceous siliceous shale. The paleo-environments have been reconstructed and the organic enrichment mechanism has been identified as a reduced environment and high productivity. The Wufeng period is generally a suboxic environment and the early Longmaxi period is a reducing environment based on geochemical characterization.High dolomite content in the study area is accompanied by high TOC,which may potentially indicate the restricted anoxic environment formed by biological flourishing in shallower water. And for the area close to the Kangdian Uplift, the shale gas generation capability is comparatively favorable. The geochemical parameters implied that new favorable areas for shale gas exploration could be targeted, and more shale gas resources in the mountain-basin transitional zone might be identified in the future. 展开更多
