With the continuous improvement of current science and technology and residents’electricity demand,the power system relay protection course has become a key component of the curriculum for students majoring in power engineering.In this context,the teaching model of power system relay protection faces both new challenges and opportunities.By integrating the Outcome-Based Education(OBE)concept,teachers can reconstruct curriculum objectives and teaching frameworks by clearly defining learning outcomes,thereby enhancing students’practical competencies and innovative thinking.Based on the core connotation of the OBE concept,this paper analyzes the significance of incorporating OBE into Power System Relay Protection teaching and explores effective implementation strategies.The findings aim to offer practical insights for teaching reform and to strengthen the alignment between academic training and industry requirements. 展开更多

A novel operation control method for relay protection in flexible DC distribution networks with distributed power supply is proposed to address the issue of inaccurate fault location during relay protection,leading to poor performance.The method combines a fault-tolerant fault location method based on long-term and short-term memory networks to accurately locate the fault section.Then,an operation control method for relay protection based on adaptive weight and whale optimization algorithm(WOA)is used to construct an objective function considering the shortest relay protection action time and the smallest impulse current.The adaptive weight and WOA are employed to obtain the optimal strategy for relay protection operation control,reducing the action time and impulse current.Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in accurately locating faults and improving relay protection performance.The longest operation time is reduced by 4.7023 s,and the maximum impulse current is limited to 0.3 A,effectively controlling the impact of large impulse currents and enhancing control efficiency. 展开更多

The article discusses the possibility of further modernization of the standard microprocessor relay protection of AC overhead system feeders DPA-27.5-TNF, which is operated on the Trans-Baikal Railway by creating an additional automated system of unified templates necessary for the occurrence of “trainability” elements. The templates will be formed via a separate dedicated channel for transmission, processing and storage of the necessary information, not related to the operation of the terminal, with its subsequent visualization at the workplace of the duty personnel of traction substations, together with information from the “GID” software received via another dedicated wired channel. With the help of such a base of unified preset templates, in the future, it will be possible not only to identify the specific causes of each emergency shutdown but also to reduce their number by dynamically adjusting the existing presets of the standard operation algorithm. 展开更多

Stray currents from DC metro systems intrude into the grounded neutrals of large power transformers,posing a major threat to the differential relay protection of transformer.In this paper,the performance of harmonic blocking based differential relay protection considering neutral stray currents(NSCs)from DC metro systems is thoroughly investigated.The findings reveal that relays may fail to clear internal faults in some scenarios because they are blocked due to NSC-induced harmonic currents.To improve the reliability of differential relay protection,a method for preventing incorrect operation is proposed using a skewness-based criterion to detect the presence of NSCs.Then,the relay is unblocked when an internal fault is simultaneously detected by the novel internal fault detection block.The proposed method is resistant to current transformer saturation and accounts for NSC fluctuations.Various time-domain simulations conducted in PSCAD/EMTDC verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

Due to the low overcurrent capacity of the inverter-based microgrid,traditional overcurrent protect is not suitable for the entire power system including microgrid.A fast detecting method and a whole protection scheme is needed to identify the fault and keep the system stable.This paper proposes a microgrid relay protection scheme combining a fast fault detection algorithm and low voltage ride through(LVRT)strategy.The detection algorithm combines a new harmonic analysis method and impedance delay which can complete fault detection within several milliseconds.Under a fault condition,the LVRT strategy utilizes an enhanced phase-locked loop(EPLL)to allow the microgrid to operate under unbalanced conditions for a period of time.In addition,for the dispatch requirements of power system,it also has communication based power compensation functionality.The scheme given in this paper is verified by simulation,verifying feasibility of its application in practice. 展开更多

This paper proposes a Petri net model of a transmission line protection relaying system, including three types of relays as well as an automatic reclosing device, and shows how to diagnose serial failure of the system by analyzing invariant sets of the model. The article discusses the possibility of a potential reduction in the number of operations of microprocessor relay protection of feeders of the contact network of AC railways TsZA-27.5-FKS (FTS) for unknown reasons. Real statistics on the number of microprocessor relay protection operations at the Buryatskaya traction substation are presented, simulation of the real train situation (in accordance with the regime maps of the throughput capacity of the sections of the Trans-Baikal railway) was carried out in the specialized software complex “KORTES”. Based on the results of the analysis of simulation modeling, the process of forming a unified template of settings using neural network technologies is considered, which characterizes only this specific regular train situation. To protect objects in the event of pre-emergency and emergency modes of operation of the traction power supply system, a variant of changing the standard operation algorithm of the TsZA-27.5-FKS (FTS) terminal by introducing additional blocks for calculating the predictive functions of current and voltage has been proposed. 展开更多

The probability-assessment analyses on the characteristic value of voltage dip by using Monte Carlo stochastic modeling method to stimulate the randomness of the short circuit fault are introduced. Using Matlab and Power Systems CAD(PSCAD), we design control interface which combines the electromagnetic transient simulation with the Monte Carlo method. Specifically, the designing of interface which is meant to employ the method of Matlab programming to control the electromagnetic transients including direct current(EMTDC)simulation is introduced. Furthermore, the influences of the protection devices on the voltage dip to ensure the authenticity and the referential reliability are simulated. A system with the inverse-time protection devices equipped on each line which can coordinate together is designed to cut off the short-circuit fault. The voltage dip of the designed system is assessed by the pre- and post-system average root mean square(RMS) variation frequency index, and the voltage dip index is compared with the Information Technology Industry Council(ITIC)curves. The simulation results demonstrate that the inverse-time relay protection equipments are well-coordinated,and the severity and the range of the voltage dip are influenced by the cooperation of the equipped inverse-time protection devices. 展开更多
