Objective:Healthcare service satisfaction focuses not only on the patients but also on the overall quality and effectiveness of the care provided. This study aimed to explore the correlation between patients’perceptions of empathy, patient satisfaction, and the quality of recovery in elderly patients undergoing postoperative care for lower extremity fractures under spinal anesthesia. Methods:In the present cross-sectional study,138 elderly patients who underwent surgery for lower extremity fracture and spinal anesthesia were selected for inclusion in the study. The questionnaire included demographic characteristics, the Jefferson Scale of Patient Perception of Physician Empathy, the Patient Satisfaction Scale, and the Postoperative Quality of Recovery Score.Multivariate regression was performed to evaluate the associations between patient-reported factors and satisfaction. Results:The overall average scores for patient perception of empathy, quality of recovery, and patient satisfaction were 20.30(1.18),110.11(8.26),and 156.86(5.44),respectively.There was a statistically significant positive correlation between patient quality of recovery and patient perception of empathy and patient satisfaction(p<0.01).Conclusions:This finding could also inform policymaking and the development of guidelines aimed at improving the quality of healthcare delivery. This study encouraged healthcare organizations and institutions to foster empathy in healthcare interactions, which may positively impact patient satisfaction and subsequent recovery outcomes, and patient-centered care. 展开更多

Background Ultrasound-guided continuous thoracic paravertebral block can provide pain-relieving and opioid-sparing effects in patients receiving open hepatectomy. We hypothesize that these effects may improve the quality of recovery(QoR)after open hepatectomy. Methods Seventy-six patients undergoing open hepatectomy were randomized to receive a continuous thoracic paravertebral block with ropivacaine(CTPVB group)or normal saline(control group). All patients received patient-controlled intravenous analgesia with morphine postoperatively for 48 hours. The primary outcome was the global Chinese 15-item Quality of Recovery score on postoperative day 7,which was statistically analyzed using Student’s t-test.Results Thirty-six patients in the CTPVB group and 37 in the control group completed the study.Compared to the control group, the CTPVB group had significantly increased global Chinese 15-item Quality of Recovery scores(133.14±12.97 vs.122.62±14.89,P=0.002)on postoperative day 7.Postoperative pain scores and cumulative morphine consumption were significantly lower for up to 8 and 48 hours(P<0.05;P=0.002),respectively,in the CTPVB group. Conclusion Perioperative CTPVB markably promotes patient’s QoR after open hepatectomy with a profound analgesic effect in the early postoperative period. 展开更多

To simultaneously improve the quantity and quality of heat recovery in a heat exchanger network(HEN),this study conducts a theory analysis based on the first and second laws of thermodynamics.Under the premise of maximizing the heat recovery quantity of HEN,Ġdiss is used as an evaluation index to optimize the quality of heat recovery.Meanwhile, the total annual cost(TAC)is considered as another optimization objective to ensure the economic feasibility of the HEN.A superstructure-based multi-objective mixed integer non-linear programming approach is put forward to solve the trade-off between minimizingĠdiss and minimizing TAC.This allows for the optimum HEN structure to be obtained.A well-studied example is solved to highlight the benefits of the proposed method. 展开更多

Few studies have examined the impacts of color stimuli on perioperative mood and quality of recovery;thus, this randomized controlled trial aimed to assess impacts of vividly colored accessories on mood and quality of recovery after breast surgery. This single-center, single-blind randomized controlled trial included 36 participants (all aged ≥ 20 years) who were randomized into intervention (n = 19) and control groups (n = 17). The intervention group received vividly colored accessories. The primary and secondary study outcomes were patient mood, evaluated using a two-dimensional mood scale, and postoperative recovery, evaluated using Quality of Recovery-15, which were assessed on postoperative day 3. There were no statistical intergroup differences in the scores of the Two-Dimensional Mood Scale (11.2 [intervention group] vs. 10.4 [control group], P = 0.75) and Quality of Recovery-15 (126.8 [intervention group] vs. 129.3 [control group], P = 0.73). Thus, the use of vividly colored accessories by patients undergoing breast surgery was not found to affect patients’ mood and quality of recovery. 展开更多

Objective To preliminarily investigate the effect of buccal acupuncture therapy on ameliorating postoperative pain and enhancing recovery quality among patients undergoing radical resection of gastrointestinal cancers. Methods Fifty-two participants were randomized at a 1:1 ratio to either the buccal acupuncture or the control group. The acupuncture protocol entailed targeting 5 predetermined acupoints[CA-2(Upper jiao),CA-3(Middle jiao),CA-4(Lower jiao),CA-6(back),and CA-7(waist)]and two adjustable acupoints[CA-1(head)and CA-8(sacrum)]on each side of the face. The outcomes included the Numeric Rating Scale(NRS)scores for each day within 7 days postoperatively,15-Item Quality of Recovery Scale(QoR-15)scores,analgesics consumption during and after surgery, incidences of postoperative nausea and vomiting, and perioperative levels of interleukin-6 and glucose.Adverse events related to acupuncture were recorded. Results Of the initial 52 participants,46 completed the study and were included in the analysis.Findings indicated that the buccal acupuncture group experienced significantly reduced resting NRS scores in post-anesthesia care unit and throughout the postoperative phase(P=0.001 and P=0.003,respectively),along with enhanced QoR-15 scores on the 3rd postoperative day(P=0.008),compared to the control group. No notable differences were identified in the remaining indicators(P>0.05).Conclusion Buccal acupuncture therapy demonstrated significant effectiveness in reducing postoperative pain and improving recovery quality for patients undergoing radical resection of gastrointestinal cancers, presenting a viable intervention without associated adverse outcomes.(Trial registration No.ChiCTR2200060441) 展开更多
