Numerous studies have been devoted to the physical-chemical weathering processes leading to the creation of unique soil formations having their own history that induce soil-biotic diversity.However,the extent to which...Numerous studies have been devoted to the physical-chemical weathering processes leading to the creation of unique soil formations having their own history that induce soil-biotic diversity.However,the extent to which unique geomorphic formations influence soil biotic seasonal variation is not clear.Our aim was to define seasonal variations of soil biota in soils of different-aged terraces of the Makhtesh Ramon anticline erosional cirque in southern Israel.The strong effect of Makhtesh Ramon (Ramon crater) erosional fluvial terrace age initiated by climatic changes during the Late Pleistocene- Early Holocene period on seasonal variations in both soil properties and the abundance and composition of soil biota were demonstrated.However,age dependence was not constant and values for observed soil properties and microbial activity were negligible between younger and older terraces for certain seasons,while free-living nematodes along with bacterial-feeding group were strongly dependent on the geomorphic features of the ages throughout the study period.展开更多

The Spanish pilots were initially excluded by the Moroccan War, which demanded all available air forces be used to put an end to the conflict. Motivated by the successes of The Alhucemas amphibious landing, one of best Spanish aviators, Major Ramon Franco presented to the Government in 1925 a project to undertake a flight to Argentina across the South Atlantic Ocean in a DornierJ Wal seaplane. In the memorandum, Franco said： The Spain-Argentina flight would be a worthwhile trial and verification of air navigation. It would also serve to let the entire world know of the merits of our Aviation and allow us to occupy the aeronautical place that belongs to us in aeronautics. It would also help us strengthen our ties with our brothers at the other side of the ocean. The DornierJ Walwas named ＂Plus Ultra＂ referring to the Discovery of America. The route should be Palos de la Frontera-Las Palmas de Gran Canaria-Cape Verde islands-Fernando Noronha island-Pernambuco-Rio de Janeiro-Montevideo and Buenos Aires. Franco reasoned that the best time of year to make the flight was from December to April. The raid started in the city Palos de la Frontera on 22 January 1926 and ended in Buenos Aires on February 9, after flying 10,825 kilometers in 59 hours and 48 minutes.展开更多
This essay investigates Fray Ramon Pane's text from 1500 CE,Relacion acerca de las antiguedades de los Indios,within the literary context of the paradoxography.It examines cultural frameworks and general literary ...This essay investigates Fray Ramon Pane's text from 1500 CE,Relacion acerca de las antiguedades de los Indios,within the literary context of the paradoxography.It examines cultural frameworks and general literary knowledge that would have been understood by Pane within the structures of Spanish and Hieronymite societies.This essay compares the framework and content of Pane's work with the known paradoxographies of Aelian and Aristotle,focusing on the emphasis placed by Pane on transformation via linguistic translation/interpretation and mythological animal representation.Through my analysis of the original text,I outline Pane's transliteration of Taino mythology and culture,emphasizing the significance of this New World text itself within the paradoxographical genre,a genre that had generally been in disuse long before Europeans arrived in the Caribbean.While I base my analysis in the study of genre,my general focus is the inclusion and importance of transformation and animal lore within Taino culture,and their transliteration into a little-used European genre by a little-known Spanish friar.展开更多
