Eight PTT matches of each s...The purpose of this study was to analyse and compare the match characteristics of wheelchair PTT (Para table tennis) classes that played in the team tournament at the Rio 2016 Paralympic. Eight PTT matches of each selected class (1, 2, 4 and 5) were analysed.The variables analysed were DR (duration of rally) and RT (rest time). In observing the characteristics of the matches in Classes 1, 2, 4 and 5, the DR corresponded to 3.4 ± 1.2, 4.2 ± 1.5, 4.5 ± 1.6 and 5.2 ± 1.2 seconds, and RT to 13.8 ± 3.5, 14 ± 3.5, 13.3 ± 3.1 and 12.3± 3.3 seconds. In Classes 1 and 2, significant differences in DR were found, but none in RT (p 〉 0.05). In the DR and RT of classes 4 and 5 there were significant differences (p 〈 0.05). The results indicated that the DR in Classes 1 and 2 were different because of sitting balance due to severe reduction of function in Class 1 playing arm, interfering in the rally and rest. In Classes 4 and 5 the differences in DR and RT were caused by little sitting balance in Class 4. These characteristics should be used by coaches to check the disadvantages that Class 1 presents against Class 2, and the physical limitations of Class 4 that can directly influence DR in the team tournament against athletes with normal trunk muscle function (Class 5). Planned training prescriptions between classes would aim at achieving better sport performance in training and team tournaments.展开更多

As groundwater table declination is an important factor resulting in degradation of eco-environment in the Minqin Basin, China, it is significant to investigate and understand the groundwater table dynamics in this ar...As groundwater table declination is an important factor resulting in degradation of eco-environment in the Minqin Basin, China, it is significant to investigate and understand the groundwater table dynamics in this area. According to the physical and geographical conditions of the Minqin Basin, a hydrogeological conceptual model and a mathematical model were established, and the mathematical model was figured out by using Finite Element subsurface Flow system (Feflow). Accurate hydrogeological parameters were acquired, and the spatio-temporal distribution dynamics of groundwater table for 1983-2001 were also simulated. The model performed well with a correlation coefficient of 0.977 and a mean error of 0.9768 m. The inflow and outflow of the groundwater system were predicted by time series analysis, and the groundwater table dynamics for 2011 were further acquired. Gen- erally the groundwater table in the Minqin Basin would continue to decline. The groundwater table would decline during spring and summer irrigation, while it would rise during autumn-winter irrigation. The groundwater depression cones would expand with the increase of center depths. Therefore, regulatory measures should be taken to prevent the declination of groundwater table and improve the eco-environment of this area.展开更多

The test result...This paper describes shaking table tests of three eight-story building models: all are masonry structures in the upper stories, with or without frame-shear walls of one- or two- stories at the bottom. The test results of damage characteristics and seismic responses are provided and compared. Then, nonlinear response analyses are conducted to examine the reliability of the dynamic analysis. Finally, many nonlinear response analyses are performed and it is concluded that for relatively hard sites under a certain lateral stiffness ratio (i.e., the ratio of the stiffness of the lowest upper masonry story to that of the frame- shear wall story), the masonry structure with one-story frame-shear wall at the bottom performs better than a structure built entirely of masonry, and a masonry structure with frame-shear wall of two stories performs better than with one-story frame- shear wall. In relatively soft soil conditions, all three structures have similar performane. In addition, some suggestions that could be helpful for design of masonry structures with ground story of frame-shear wall structure in seismic intensity region VII, such as the appropriate lateral stiffness ratio, shear force increase factor of the frame-shear wall story, and permissible maximum height of the building, are proposed.展开更多
This article extends a signal-based approach formerly proposed by the authors, which utilizes the fractal dimension of time frequency feature (FDTFF) of displacements, for earthquake damage detection of moment resis...This article extends a signal-based approach formerly proposed by the authors, which utilizes the fractal dimension of time frequency feature (FDTFF) of displacements, for earthquake damage detection of moment resist frame (MRF), and validates the approach with shaking table tests. The time frequency feature (TFF) of the relative displacement at measured story is defined as the real part of the coefficients of the analytical wavelet transform. The fractal dimension (FD) is to quantify the TFF within the fundamental frequency band using box counting method. It is verified that the FDTFFs at all stories of the linear MRF are identical with the help of static condensation method and modal superposition principle, while the FDTFFs at the stories with localized nonlinearities due to damage will be different from those at the stories without nonlinearities using the reverse-path methodology. By comparing the FDTFFs of displacements at measured stories in a structure, the damage-induced nonlinearity of the structure under strong ground motion can be detected and localized. Finally shaking table experiments on a 1:8 scale sixteen-story three-bay steel MRF with added frictional dampers, which generate local nonlinearities, are conducted to validate the approach.展开更多
The seismic design of gravity retaining walls is based mostly on the pseudo static method.The seismic earth pressure is assumed to be a constant without considering the wave traveling effect when the seismic wave prop...The seismic design of gravity retaining walls is based mostly on the pseudo static method.The seismic earth pressure is assumed to be a constant without considering the wave traveling effect when the seismic wave propagates through the slope.However,under continuous ground motion,the actual earth pressure on the retaining wall varies with time.The present seismic earth pressure calculation method yields results that differ significantly from the actual scenario.Considering this,a slip surface curve was assumed in this study.It is more suitable for engineering practice.In addition,a theoretical calculation model based on energy dissipation was established.The time history of seismic earth pressure response under continuous ground motion was calculated using the equilibrium equation between the external power and the internal energy dissipation power of the sliding soil wedge.It can more effectively reflect the stress scenario of a retaining wall under seismic conditions.To verify the applicability of the proposed approach,a large-scale shaking table test was conducted,and the time history of the seismic earth pressure response obtained from the experiment was compared with the calculation results.The results show that the proposed approach is applicable to the calculation of the time history of seismic earth pressure response of gravity retaining walls.This lays the foundation for the seismic design of retaining structures by using dynamic time history.展开更多

The four tested structures included one normal concrete model, one recycled coarse aggregate concrete model, and two recycled coarse and fi ne aggregate concrete models with or without concealed bracings inside the shear walls. The dynamic characteristics, dynamic response and failure mode of each model were compared and analyzed. Finite element models were also developed and nonlinear time-history response analysis was conducted. The test and analysis results show that the seismic performance of the recycled coarse aggregate concrete frame-shear wall structure is slightly worse than the normal concrete structure. The seismic resistance capacity of the recycled concrete frame-shear wall structure can be greatly improved by setting up concealed bracings inside the walls. With appropriate design, the recycled coarse aggregate concrete frame-shear wall structure and recycled concrete structure with concealed bracings inside the walls can be applied in buildings.展开更多

A new timing delay model based on some delay tables of fabricators is first simplified and deduced; then it is formulated as a constrained programming problem using the new timing delay model. The approach combines the well\|known quadratic placement with bottom\|up clustering, as well as the slicing partitioning strategy, which has been tested on a set of sample circuits from industry and the results obtained show that it is very promising.展开更多

The discrete time approach allows insurance companies to facilitate calculation process but with less accuracy. This approach implies constancy of death quotients during a year. However, the death risk is a continuous function in time. For more accuracy and equity in pricing, calculation needs to consider the exact dates of different payments and also a continuous capitalization process. This gives more adequate premium with fewer hypotheses. This work shows how insurers can propose more adequate pricing using the same actuarial life table.展开更多

W...We are looking for a mathematical model of monophonic sounds with independent time and phase dimensions. With such a model we can resynthesise a sound with arbitrarily modulated frequency and progress of the timbre. We propose such a model and show that it exactly fulfils some natural properties, like a kind of timeinvariance, robustness against non-harmonic frequencies, envelope preservation, and inclusion of plain resampling as a special case. The resulting algorithm is efficient and allows to process data in a streaming manner with phase and shape modulation at sample rate, what we demonstrate with an implementation in the functional language Haskell. It allows a wide range of applications, namely pitch shifting and time scaling, creative FM synthesis effects, compression of monophonic sounds, generating loops for sampled sounds, synthesise sounds similar to wavetable synthesis, or making ultrasound audible.展开更多
The high-rise frame structure has become more and more widespread, like its damage from the complication of the environment. The traditional method of damage detection, which is only suitable for the stationary signal...The high-rise frame structure has become more and more widespread, like its damage from the complication of the environment. The traditional method of damage detection, which is only suitable for the stationary signal, does not apply to a high-rise frame structure because its damage signal is non-stationary. Thus, this paper presents an application of the short-time Fourier transform(STFT) to damage detection of high-rise frame structures. Compared with the fast Fourier transform, STFT is found to be able to express the frequency spectrum property of the time interval using the signal within this interval. Application of STFT to analyzing a Matlab model and the shaking table test with a twelve-story frame-structure model reveals that there is a positive correlation between the slope of the frequency versus time and the damage level. If the slope is equal to or greater than zero, the structure is not damaged. If the slope is smaller than zero, the structure is damaged, and the less the slope is, the more serious the damage is. The damage results from calculation based on the Matlab model are consistent with those from the shaking table test, demonstrating that STFT can be a reliable tool for the damage detection of high-rise frame structures.展开更多
