Understanding why elements are distributed in tree xylem in a particular way is a significant challenge in dendrochemistry.This study explored a hypothesis that metal elements in the xylem interact due to differences in physical properties such as ionic radius and ionization potential.Scots pine in an even-aged stand established during the early 1970s in eastern Siberia was the study species.Increment cores were taken from the north and south sides of trees and scanned with an X-ray fluorescent multi scanner.With the help of X-ray scanning,the following elements were analyzed:aluminum(Al),potassium(K),calcium(Ca),titanium(Ti),manganese(Mn),iron(Fe),copper(Cu),strontium(Sr)and zinc(Zn).Scanning data on the elements were split into early-wood and late-wood data for each year of growth.The following ratios were analyzed:Ca/Sr,Fe/Ca,Fe/Sr,Al/Cu,Al/Zn,Ti/Mn,and Mn/K.Among these,ones having a consistent pattern across tree rings,the ratios show a more or less dependable relationship:that an element shows a larger decrease(relative another element)that has a larger ionic radius and lower ionization potential.Hypothetically,this may be due to the advantage of an ion with smaller ionic radius and higher ionization potential under a deficit of accommodation centers in organic molecules.An experiment approach should be applied to clarify the relationships. 展开更多

High pressure enables the creation of novel functional materials by modifying chemical bonding and crystal structure,opening avenues for the development of high-energy-density polynitrogen materials.We present the high-pressure synthesis of three polynitrides P1 AgN7,P21/c AgN5,and P-1 AgN4,achieved through direct reactions between silver and nitrogen.Notably,the synthesis pressures required for the formation of N5 and N6 rings from metal–nitrogen reactions in this work represent the lowest values reported to date in high-pressure studies.At 15 GPa,isolated N5 rings are stabilized in P1 AgN7 and P21/c AgN5.At 26.3 GPa,P-1 AgN4 is synthesized,featuring infinite onedimensional nitrogen chains composed of alternating N2 and N6 rings,a unique catenation not observed in other polynitrides.In addition,AgN7,AgN5,and AgN4 possess significantly higher volumetric energy densities Ev than the conventional explosive TNT,making them promising high-energy-density materials. 展开更多

The physiological structure and growth of trees in extreme environments(freezing temperatures,prolonged drought,wildfires,pest infestations,and diseases)can be inhibited,including radial growth,and stagnant growth or missing annual rings is highly possible.In this study,we analyzed the radial growth of Siberian larch(Larix sibirica)in the Hongshanzui area of the Altai Mountains,China.The overall missing ring rate at the sampling point was 2.39%,with years with the highest missing rings since meteorological site data were available(1960)identified as 1960,1961,1971,1973,1985,1987,and 1995.Radial growth in high altitudes was mainly affected by temperatures in May and June(average temperature,average minimum temperature,and average maximum temperature).Frequent periods of freezing may lead to missing annual rings.However,while Larix sibirica shows resilience after prolonged freezing temperatures,it still requires time for the trees to return to normal growth levels. 展开更多

Purpose–The brake pipe system was an essential braking component of the railway freight trains,but the existing E-type sealing rings had problems such as insufficient low-temperature resistance,poor heat stability and short service life.To address these issues,low-phenyl silicone rubber was prepared and tested,and the finite element analysis and experimental studies on the sealing performance of its sealing rings were carried out.Design/methodology/approach–The low-temperature resistance and thermal stability of the prepared lowphenyl silicone rubber were studied using low-temperature tensile testing,differential scanning calorimetry,dynamic thermomechanical analysis and thermogravimetric analysis.The sealing performance of the lowphenyl silicone rubber sealing ring was studied by using finite element analysis software abaqus and experiments.Findings–The prepared low-phenyl silicone rubber sealing ring possessed excellent low-temperature resistance and thermal stability.According to the finite element analysis results,the finish of the flange sealing surface and groove outer edge should be ensured,and extrusion damage should be avoided.The sealing rings were more susceptible to damage in high compression ratio and/or low-temperature environments.When the sealing effect was ensured,a small compression ratio should be selected,and rubbers with hardness and elasticity less affected by temperature should be selected.The prepared low-phenyl silicone rubber sealing ring had zero leakage at both room temperature(RT)and�508C.Originality/value–The innovation of this study is that it provides valuable data and experience for the future development of the sealing rings used in the brake pipe flange joints of the railway freight cars in China. 展开更多

Automated detection of multi-type defects of ultrasonic TFM images for aeroengine casing rings with complex sections based on deep learning

The manufacturing processes of casing rings are prone to multi-type defects such as holes,cracks,and porosity,so ultrasonic testing is vital for the quality of aeroengine.Conventional ultrasonic testing requires manual analysis,which is susceptible to human omission,inconsistent results,and time-consumption.In this paper,a method for automated detection of defects is proposed for the ultrasonic Total Focusing Method(TFM)inspection of casing rings based on deep learning.First,the original datasets of defect images are established,and the Mask R-CNN is used to increase the number of defects in a single image.Then,the YOLOX-S-improved lightweight model is proposed,and the feature extraction network is replaced by Faster Net to reduce redundant computations.The Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Network(SRGAN)and Convolutional Block Attention Module(CBAM)are integrated to improve the identification precision.Finally,a new test dataset is created by ultrasonic TFM inspection of an aeroengine casing ring.The results show that the mean of Average Precision(m AP)of the YOLOX-S-improved model reaches 99.17%,and the corresponding speed reaches 77.6 FPS.This study indicates that the YOLOX-S-improved model performs better than conventional object detection models.And the generalization ability of the proposed model is verified by ultrasonic B-scan images. 展开更多

The agitated thin-film evaporator(ATFE)plays a crucial role in evaporation and concentration processes.The design of the scraper for processing high-viscosity non-Newtonian fluids in the ATFE is complex.The intricate scraping action of the scraper introduces gas into the liquid film,leading to the formation of a gas ring along the wall.This process subsequently reduces wall heat flow,thereby affecting heat transfer.Computational fluid dynamics(CFD)is used to simulate the flow field of the non-Newtonian fluid in the ATFE.The investigation focuses on understanding the mechanism behind the formation of gas rings in the liquid film and proposes methods to prevent their formation.The results demonstrate a transition of the gas from a gas ring suspended in the liquid to a gas ring attached to the wall after entering the liquid film.The scraping action around the circumference of the scraper helps to expel gas rings,indicating the necessity of adjusting the scraper arrangement and increasing the frequency of scraping to enhance gas ring expulsion.The spiral motion of the bow wave serves as the source of gas entry into the liquid film.Therefore,the rotation speed can appropriately increase to reduce the size of the bow wave,thereby inhibiting the formation of the gas ring from the source.This research investigates the mechanism of gas ring generation and expulsion,offering theoretical guidance for processing high-viscosity non-Newtonian materials in the flow field of the ATFE. 展开更多

Deep Learning Based Online Defect Detection Method for Automotive Sealing Rings

Manufacturers must identify and classify various defects in automotive sealing rings to ensure product quality.Deep learning algorithms show promise in this field,but challenges remain,especially in detecting small-scale defects under harsh industrial conditions with multimodal data.This paper proposes an enhanced version of You Only Look Once(YOLO)v8 for improved defect detection in automotive sealing rings.We introduce the Multi-scale Adaptive Feature Extraction(MAFE)module,which integrates Deformable ConvolutionalNetwork(DCN)and Spaceto-Depth(SPD)operations.This module effectively captures long-range dependencies,enhances spatial aggregation,and minimizes information loss of small objects during feature extraction.Furthermore,we introduce the Blur-Aware Wasserstein Distance(BAWD)loss function,which improves regression accuracy and detection capabilities for small object anchor boxes,particularly in scenarios involving defocus blur.Additionally,we have constructed a high-quality dataset of automotive sealing ring defects,providing a valuable resource for evaluating defect detection methods.Experimental results demonstrate our method’s high performance,achieving 98.30% precision,96.62% recall,and an inference speed of 20.3 ms. 展开更多

For hot rolling of titanium alloy large rings,evolution laws of stress and strain fields in rings with various sizes were explored and compared based on a reliable coupled thermo-mechanical three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) model.The results show that for forming processes of different rings,as γ^-(the equivalent distribution ratio of feed amount per revolution of a process) decreases,the final peak Mises stress may transfer from the biting point at the driver roll side to that at the idle roll side,and the final peak equivalent plastic strain may transfer from the outside surface to the inside surface;as L^- (the equivalent deformation zone length of a process) increases,the final peak Mises stress may appear in the middle layer.The final positions of peak Mises stress and equivalent plastic strain are the combined effects of the above two aspects.In the deformation zone of a deformed ring,the surface layers are in the 3D compressive stress state,while the middle layer is in the 1D compressive and 2D tensile stress state or 2D compressive and 1D tensile stress state;the whole ring is in the 1D compressive and 2D tensile strain state. 展开更多
