The additional Al-implantation into SiO2 films can effectively improve the concentration quenching effect of Yb^3+ in SiO2. Photoluminescence excitation spectroscopy shows that the NIR photoluminescence is due to the non-radiative energy transfer from Al-implantation-induced non-bridging oxygen hole defects in SiO2 to Yb^3+ in the Yb-related luminescent complexes. These carbonation reactions were conducted at thr...Simulating the typical carbonation step in a mineral CO_2 sequestration, precipitated calcium carbonate(PCC) was prepared by bubbling CO_2 gas into a rich Ca solution. These carbonation reactions were conducted at three p H ranges, namely 10.0–9.0, 9.0–8.0, and 8.0–7.0, in which temperature and CO_2 flow rate are additional experimental variables. The PCC obtained in experiments was examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)and X-ray diffraction(XRD). It was found that supersaturation determined by p H value and flow rate of CO_2 has significant influence on polymorph of PCC. Vaterite was preferably formed at high supersaturation, while dissolution of metastable vaterite and crystallization of calcite occurred at low supersaturation. High temperature is a critical factor for the formation of aragonite. At 70 °C, vaterite, calcite and aragonite were observed to coexist in PCC because transformation from vaterite to aragonite via calcite occurred at this temperature. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) technology was performed on prepared PCC, and various morphologies consistent with polymorphs were observed.展开更多

Most of the mineral water sources in this area, including those in the Laoshan and Kunyu Mountains, occur in Mesozoic granites. The groundwater and mineral waters contain metasilicic acid and strontium but the latter is potable. Mineral water is also found in the Jiaolai Basin, hosting in the basalts of the Wangshi group in Anjiagou Village, Jiaozhou City. The rapeutic groundwater, however, is rarely found in this area, except for the recent discovery of CO:-Li-Sr rich therapeutic and potable groundwater, which is reported in this study.展开更多
Familial acne inversa (AI) is an autoinflammatory disorder that affects hair follicles and is caused by loss-of-function mutations in y-secretase component genes.We and other researchers showed that nicastrin (NCSTN) ...Familial acne inversa (AI) is an autoinflammatory disorder that affects hair follicles and is caused by loss-of-function mutations in y-secretase component genes.We and other researchers showed that nicastrin (NCSTN) is the most frequently mutated gene in familial AI.In this study,we generated a keratin 5-Cre-driven epidermis-specific Ncstn conditional knockout mutant in mice.We determined that this mutant recapitulated the major phenotypes of AI,including hyperkeratosis of hair follicles and inflammation.In Ncstnflox/flox;K5-Cre mice,the IL-36a expression level markedly increased starting from postnatal day 0 (P0),and this increase occurred much earlier than those of TNF-α,IL-23A,IL-1 3,and TLR4.RNA-Seq analysis indicated that Sprr2d,a member of the small proline-rich protein 2 family,in the skin tissues of the Ncstnflox/flox,;K5-Cre mice was also upregulated on P0.Quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction showed that other Sprr2 genes had a similar expression pattern.Our findings suggested that IL-36a might be a key inflammatory cytokine in the pathophysiology of AI and implicate malfunction of the skin barrier in the pathogenesis of AI.展开更多
