This mixed-methods study presents a needs analysis to investigate the workplace English language needs of medical students in China who are learning and using English as non-native speakers,the circumstances in which ...This mixed-methods study presents a needs analysis to investigate the workplace English language needs of medical students in China who are learning and using English as non-native speakers,the circumstances in which the various language skills are required,and stakeholders’perceived workplace preparedness in the light of language-related instructional provision during medical training.A leading university in China was chosen as the study case.Altogether,294 online questionnaires were collected from undergraduate medical students,graduate medical students and recent graduates working as physicians,and 33 semi-structured individual interviews were conducted with undergraduate medical students,graduate medical students,recent graduates working as physicians,medical teachers,English for Medical Purposes(EMP)teachers,program leaders and English-speaking patients.Results showed that in addition to physicians experiencing pressure to publish scientific articles internationally,participants attached greater importance to physicians’oral English communication ability,especially in undertaking clinical consultations in English,working with medical interpreters or acting as ad hoc interpreters.The participants also reported a lack of relevant EMP courses or trainings available at this university.Given these communicative events that physicians face in China,EMP courses need to include training in these specific areas.展开更多

The unique varietal characteristics of SPR are pigmented, glutinous, good-yie...Special Purpose Rice (SPR) is a technology that consists of different rice varieties that were developed by Central Luzon State University. The unique varietal characteristics of SPR are pigmented, glutinous, good-yielding varieties planted in lowland areas. This study was conducted to increase farmers’ income through employing different promotion and extension activities and enterprise development. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Cost and return and benefit-cost analysis were used to determine the financial benefits of using the SPR in different production systems. Results revealed that incorporating the following parameters is critical in the sustainable adoption of the SPR. Amongst them are: ensuring that recommended production technologies are strictly followed by the farmers, ensuring the quality of seeds for planting, the presence of a market for the produce, engaging the farmers in value-adding activities like processing, capability development in entrepreneurship, and adopting clustering approach of the farmers to address economies of scale in marketing and processing. The use of SPR produced an average yield of 6.11 MT/ha and 5.04 MT/ha during the dry and wet seasons from 2021-2023, respectively, higher than the usual varieties of inbred rice. The net benefit from producing a CLS-2 variety of SPR is higher than regular rice, having an average difference of Php 22,355.53 per hectare from 2021-2023.展开更多

Since the first version of Pride and Prejudice came into being, Chinese translators have begun to show great interest in translating this novel, and there are more than ten translated Chinese versions now. Scholars have conducted a lot of research about this novel and its various translated versions. Among all these Chinese versions, Wang Keyi＇ s version is relatively earlier and is also the most popular one. Thus, it attracts many readers＇ eyes and there are increasing comments and studies on this version. There are also studies analyzing or comparing several versions from the perspective of translator＇ s subjectivity. While, few articles are published to analyze this version from the three elements of translator＇ s subjectivity： initiatives, passiveness, and purposiveness. They are also three basic features of translator＇ s subjectivity, in which translator＇ s subjectivity reflects. It is also the three features that consist of the translator＇ s subjectivity.
