This study explores the application of Production-Oriented Approach(POA)in teaching German to nursing students in colleges and universities.Focusing on the requirements of the German B1 exam,the study takes the thematic unit of“Movement”as an example,and designs the teaching through the links of“drive-enable-evaluate”.The results show that POA effectively improves students’speaking and writing output,but there are still deficiencies in reading and listening.Accordingly,this study has proposed the strategies of“vocabulary in-depth facilitation”and“accurate matching of listening and writing”to optimize the input materials and skills training,achieve the goal of“learning and using”,and provide a practical path for teaching German for Special Purposes.This provides a practical path for the teaching of German for special purposes. 展开更多

In response to the common problems in college English writing teaching,such as the separation of learning and application,students’low interest in writing,and difficulties in expression,this paper,based on the theoretical framework of the production-oriented approach(POA)proposed by Professor Wen Qiufang,designed and implemented a set of IELTS writing teaching plan.This plan takes“motivating,enabling,and assessing”as the core teaching process,and selects typical IELTS argumentative essay topics(such as food diversity)to create real communication scenarios.In the motivating stage,diverse inputs are used to stimulate students’interest and expose their language weaknesses;in the enabling stage,language knowledge,viewpoint generation,and text structure are focused on for targeted input and training;in the assessing stage,a combination of teacher-student cooperation and peer evaluation is adopted to guide students to identify and correct deficiencies in language use.The research results show that the POA model can effectively enhance students’writing interest,active learning awareness,and writing ability,particularly in overcoming vocabulary poverty and material shortages,as well as improving language accuracy and expression richness.This provides an operational theoretical basis and practical path for improving the teaching effect of IELTS writing. 展开更多

This study investigated the influence of the production-oriented approach on English speaking anxiety among non-English major college students.A quasi-experimental design was implemented over one semester with two parallel classes of junior students at a university in northwestern China.Data collected before and after the intervention using a validated Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale indicated that students experiencing POA instruction showed a discernible decrease in overall speaking anxiety,particularly concerning communication apprehension and fear of negative evaluation,relative to peers instructed via the audio-lingual method.Analysis highlighted task-driven learning,scaffolded input facilitation,and formative process evaluation within the POA framework as contributing factors.Findings imply POA represents a potential pedagogical framework for addressing affective challenges in the development of EFL oral skills. 展开更多

Teacher-student collaborative assessment(TSCA)aims to address the challenges of responding to students’work in the Production-Oriented Approach:low efficiency and poor effectiveness.As part of a bigger project carried out in a Chinese university over a period of three years,the present study explored how the teacher prepared and implemented TSCA in class,especially with a focus on how she determined the assessing objective and worked collaboratively with her students in class to achieve it,using the students’written and translated texts as examples.By adopting the dialectical research(DR)method,this paper collected qualitative data such as teaching plans,classroom recordings,and reflective journals of the teacher-researcher(the author),along with students’written drafts and translated texts.TSCA theory and classroom practice have been refined simultaneously by means of putting theory into practice and reflecting upon it.The optimized pre-class and in-class procedures may shed some light on applying TSCA to L2 classrooms. 展开更多

The Production-Oriented Approach(POA)has been proposed as a remedy for overcoming the problem of input-output separation in the traditional text-centered teaching and learning paradigm in tertiary education in China.This two-week quasi-experimental study investigated the effect of the POA,compared with the traditional text-centered Intensive Reading Approach(IRA),on college students’L2 writing performance in terms of overall quality of the writing and its components of language,idea,and discourse structure.Data included writing samples of both experimental and control groups before and after classroom instruction and the results of a language achievement test on mastery of target language forms predicating students’language use in writing.The results showed that:1)no significant difference was found between the two groups either in the overall quality or in the“idea”and“structure”of the written texts;2)the experimental group outperformed the control group with respect to language use,in terms of both language quality and the frequency of target language use.These results indicated that the POA might have an advantage over the IRA in facilitating learners’writing development. 展开更多

More than a decade has passed since Wen Qiufang(2007)first proposed that foreign language teaching could benefit from output-driven practices in the classroom.Her original ideas were reformulated and further elaborated in the Production-Oriented Approach(POA),which aims to deal with the input-output separation in foreign language teaching in Chinese universities and colleges to optimize students’learning(Wen,2015,2016b).Integrating the strengths of Chinese traditional pedagogy and Western instructional approaches,this approach engages learners with production,merging the learning and use of language to enhance the efficiency of language teaching(Illes,2018,p.242)in a Chinese context.This introduction to the special issues includes three major sections.It starts out with an overview of what the POA system includes and how it works with a focus on its teaching procedures.The second section is about dialectical research(DR),a new research paradigm specifically designed for instructed second language acquisition(Wen,2017b)with“dialectical materialism as its philosophical basis”(Wen,2019,p.385).Finally,seven papers collected in this issue are introduced.We hope that this special issue sets a research agenda towards a better understanding of the POA. 展开更多

The production-oriented approach (POA) has been developed over a decade. It is driven by the need to improve English classroom instruction for university students in China (Wen, 2016). It is also motivated by the ... The production-oriented approach (POA) has been developed over a decade. It is driven by the need to improve English classroom instruction for university students in China (Wen, 2016). It is also motivated by the aspiration to enhance the quality of foreign language education in other similar pedagogical contexts outside China. A volume of research has been done by Wen Qiufang and her research team, to formulate the theory of POA and to test its effectiveness in classroom pedagogy (e.g. Wen, 2016, 2015; Yang, 2015; Zhang, 2015). At the moment, the POA is still at an early stage of theory building and almost all empirical research is done in the Chinese context. In order to improve the quality of this theory and to make it intelligible to the international academic community, a one-day symposium was held in Beijing Foreign Studies University on May 15, 2017. The symposium was entitled 'The first international forum on innovative foreign language education in China: Appraisal of the POA'. In the forum, leading experts in applied linguistics were invited to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the POA and the directions for its future development. The symposium was the first attempt for the POA research team to discuss its latest work with international scholars. This Viewpoint section collects the responses of four experts who participated in the symposium, listed in alphabetical order. The collection of articles covers three topics related to the POA: its pedagogical application, its use for teacher training, and its research. Alister Cumming is Professor Emeritus and the former Head of the Centre for Educational Research on Languages and Literacies, University of Toronto, Canada. His article focuses primarily on POA research as an exemplary case of design-based research. Rod Ellis is Research Professor in the School of Education at Curtin University, Australia. He discusses POA in terms of pedagogy, teacher training and research, with both critiques and constructive suggestions. Paul Kei Matsuda is Professor of English and Director of Second Language Writing at Arizona State University, the writed states. He responds to POA from the perspective of an expert researcher and teacher of L2 writing. Charlene Polio is Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Linguistics & Germanic, Slavic, Asian & African Languages atMichigan State University, the writed states. She conceptualises POA as a useful method to address some issues in pre-service teacher development. Overall, the articles in this section are insightful and reader-friendly. They are not only useful for the development of POA in particular, but may also be valuable to a broad range of researchers as they touch upon pertaining issues, as well as emerging topics, in the field of applied linguistics. BACKGROUND Due to the increasing rate of thyroid nodules diagnosis,and the desire to avoid the unsightly cervical scar,remote thyroidectomies were invented and are increasingly performed.Transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach and trans-areolar approaches(TAA)are the two most commonly used remote approaches.No previous meta-analysis has compared postoperative infections and swallowing difficulties among the two procedures.AIM To compared the same among patients undergoing lobectomy for unilateral thyroid carcinoma/benign thyroid nodule.METHODS We searched PubMed MEDLINE,Google Scholar,and Cochrane Library from the date of the first published article up to August 2025.The term used were transoral thyroidectomy vestibular approach,trans areolar thyroidectomy,scarless thyroidectomy,remote thyroidectomy,infections,postoperative,inflammation,dysphagia,and swallowing difficulties.We identified 130 studies,of them,30 full texts were screened and only six studies were included in the final meta-analysis.RESULTS Postoperative infections were not different between the two approaches,odd ratio=1.33,95%confidence interval:0.50-3.53,theχ2 was 1.92 and the P-value for overall effect of 0.57.Similarly,transient swallowing difficulty was not different between the two forms of surgery,with odd ratio=0.91,95%confidence interval:0.35-2.40;theχ2 was 1.32,and the P-value for overall effect of 0.85.CONCLUSION No significant statistical differences were evident between trans-oral endoscopic Mirghani H.Infections and swallowing difficulty in scarless thyroidectomy WJCC https://www.wjgnet.com 2 January 6,2026 Volume 14 Issue 1 thyroidectomy vestibular approach and trans-areolar approach regarding postoperative infection and transient swallowing difficulties.Further longer randomized trials are needed. 展开更多

Cardiovascular diseases(CVDs)remain the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide,necessitating innovative diagnostic and prognostic strategies.Traditional biomarkers like C-reactive protein,uric acid,troponin,and natriuretic peptides play crucial roles in CVD management,yet they are often limited by sensitivity and specificity constraints.This narrative review critically examines the emerging landscape of cardiac biomarkers and advocates for a multiple-marker approach to enhance early detection,prognosis,and risk stratification of CVD.In recent years,several novel biomarkers have shown promise in revolutionizing CVD diagnostics.Gamma-glutamyltransferase,microRNAs,endothelial microparticles,placental growth factor,trimethylamine N-oxide,retinol-binding protein 4,copeptin,heart-type fatty acid-binding protein,galectin-3,growth differentiation factor-15,soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2,fibroblast growth factor 23,and adrenomedullin have emerged as significant indicators of CV health.These biomarkers provide insights into various pathophysiological processes,such as oxidative stress,endothelial dysfunction,inflammation,metabolic disturbances,and myocardial injury.The integration of these novel biomarkers with traditional ones offers a more comprehensive understanding of CVD mechanisms.This multiple-marker approach can improve diagnostic accuracy,allowing for better risk stratification and more personalized treatment strategies.This review underscores the need for continued research to validate the clinical utility of these biomarkers and their potential incorporation into routine clinical practice.By leveraging the strengths of both traditional and novel biomarkers,precise therapeutic plans can be developed,thereby improving the management and prognosis of patients with CVDs.The ongoing exploration and validation of these biomarkers are crucial for advancing CV care and addressing the limitations of current diagnostic tools. 展开更多

The progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in affected patient brains is one of the pathological features of Parkinson's disease,the second most common human neurodegenerative disease.Although the detailed pathogenesis accounting for dopaminergic neuron degeneration in Parkinson's disease is still unclear,the advancement of stem cell approaches has shown promise for Parkinson's disease research and therapy.The induced pluripotent stem cells have been commonly used to generate dopaminergic neurons,which has provided valuable insights to improve our understanding of Parkinson's disease pathogenesis and contributed to anti-Parkinson's disease therapies.The current review discusses the practical approaches and potential applications of induced pluripotent stem cell techniques for generating and differentiating dopaminergic neurons from induced pluripotent stem cells.The benefits of induced pluripotent stem cell-based research are highlighted.Various dopaminergic neuron differentiation protocols from induced pluripotent stem cells are compared.The emerging three-dimension-based brain organoid models compared with conventional two-dimensional cell culture are evaluated.Finally,limitations,challenges,and future directions of induced pluripotent stem cell–based approaches are analyzed and proposed,which will be significant to the future application of induced pluripotent stem cell-related techniques for Parkinson's disease. 展开更多

Deep learning algorithms have been rapidly incorporated into many different applications due to the increase in computational power and the availability of massive amounts of data.Recently,both deep learning and ensemble learning have been used to recognize underlying structures and patterns from high-level features to make predictions/decisions.With the growth in popularity of deep learning and ensemble learning algorithms,they have received significant attention from both scientists and the industrial community due to their superior ability to learn features from big data.Ensemble deep learning has exhibited significant performance in enhancing learning generalization through the use of multiple deep learning algorithms.Although ensemble deep learning has large quantities of training parameters,which results in time and space overheads,it performs much better than traditional ensemble learning.Ensemble deep learning has been successfully used in several areas,such as bioinformatics,finance,and health care.In this paper,we review and investigate recent ensemble deep learning algorithms and techniques in health care domains,medical imaging,health care data analytics,genomics,diagnosis,disease prevention,and drug discovery.We cover several widely used deep learning algorithms along with their architectures,including deep neural networks(DNNs),convolutional neural networks(CNNs),recurrent neural networks(RNNs),and generative adversarial networks(GANs).Common healthcare tasks,such as medical imaging,electronic health records,and genomics,are also demonstrated.Furthermore,in this review,the challenges inherent in reducing the burden on the healthcare system are discussed and explored.Finally,future directions and opportunities for enhancing healthcare model performance are discussed. 展开更多

Objective: To explore the effect of Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) theory in patients with type D personality psoriasis. Methods: A total of 66 patients with type D personality psoriasis admitted to the dermatology department of a top-three hospital in Jingzhou City from November 2022 to July 2023 were selected and divided into control group and test group with 33 cases in each group by random number table method. The control group received routine health education, and the experimental group received health education based on the HAPA theory. Chronic disease self-efficacy scale, hospital anxiety and depression scale and skin disease quality of life scale were used to evaluate the effect of intervention. Results: After 3 months of intervention, the scores of self-efficacy in experimental group were higher than those in control group (P P Conclusion: Health education based on the theory of HAPA can enhance the self-efficacy of patients with type D personality psoriasis, relieve negative emotions and improve their quality of life. 展开更多

Background:Social anxiety is prevalent among adolescents and severely impacts their mental health and social functioning.This study aims to explore the underlying mechanisms and subgroup differences in adolescent social anxiety to provide a theoretical basis for targeted interventions.Methods:3025 Chinese adolescents(Meanage=13.91±1.60 years;47%male)completed self-report measures of physical activity,core self-evaluation,and social anxiety.Variable-centered analyses employed PROCESS Model 4 with 5000 bootstrap samples;covariates were gender,grade,and place of residence.Person-centered analyses used latent profile analysis in Mplus 8.3 to identify subgroups based on social anxiety item profiles.Results:Variable-centered analyses showed that physical activity had a significant negative association with social anxiety(β=−0.224,p<0.001)and a significant positive association with core self-evaluation(β=0.471,p<0.001);core self-evaluation partially mediated this relationship,accounting for 30%of the total effect.Person-centered analyses revealed an optimal two-profile solution:a low social anxiety profile(89.6%)and a high social anxiety profile(10.4%).The high social anxiety profile reported significantly lower physical activity and lower core self-evaluation than the low social anxiety profile.Conclusions:This study integrates variable-centered and person-centered evidence,identifies physical activity and core self-evaluation as key modifiable factors in reducing social anxiety,providing a theoretical basis for targeted and differentiated interventions. 展开更多
