Exposure to cement dust can cause a number... Cement is made by grinding several raw materials. The cement industry contributes to the development of any society. Benin has four cement companies, including Sèkandji. Exposure to cement dust can cause a number of ailments. Cement production also contributes to the emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs), which contribute to global warming. The study aims to assess the effects of cement dust on the environment and on the health of the population of Sekandji. This was a cross-sectional study with descriptive and quantitative aims, conducted from May 21 to June 23, 2024. Data were collected using an interview guide from people living in the vicinity of the cement plant, who gave their informed consent to participate in the study. An observation grid was used to assess the environment. Particulate matter was sampled in the immediate vicinity of the cement plant using an AM-4812 anemometer and an air quality monitor. Sampling was non-probabilistic and purposive. Targets were selected for reliability and accuracy of data collection. Data collection was carried out using Kobo Collect software for data collected with the interview guide. Excel 2013 was used for data analysis, tables and graphs, and Microsoft Word 2013 for data entry. A total of 105 residents were selected in the vicinity of the cement plant. The average age of respondents was 35, with a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 50. The dominant age group was between 30 and 39. Males (70) dominated, with a sex ratio equal to 2. The vast majority of respondents (92.38%) said they had noticed or heard about an increase in health problems since the cement plant was set up. However, 70.48% of respondents claimed to have no information on the effects of cement production on the environment. Few respondents (29.52%) were aware of the effects of cement production on the environment. Respiratory, dermatological and ocular disorders were cited as being linked to cement. PM2.5 and PM10 particles were present in very high proportions in the air. The implementation of a serious industrialization policy that takes urbanization into account will guarantee the health safety of the population. 展开更多

Based on statistic data of agricultural production and meteorological disasters in Liaoning Province from 1971 to 2008,the effect weight,disaster rate and variance value of main agro-meteorological disasters including drought,flood,wind,hail and frozen injury were calculated,and the variation characteristic of time series of agro-meteorological disasters was further analyzed,while the grade division and comprehensive evaluation of agro-meteorological disasters were carried out in our paper.The results showed that there was a negative correlation between grain yield and the degree of agro-meteorological disasters,and agro-meteorological disasters were relatively serious in 1989,1997 and 2000,with the reduction of grain yield.Meanwhile,the occurrence frequency of light disasters was highest,accounting for 39% of total years,and the adverse effect of agro-meteorological disasters on agricultural production became more and more severe decade by decade;the effect weight of drought reached 63%,so drought was the main agro-meteorological disaster influencing agricultural production. 展开更多

Chinese farmers are often accused of overusing pesticides that play a crucial role in enhancing crop yield by reducing losses to crop pests. Pesticide overuse has caused a series of negative health and environmental externalities. This paper quantiifes the productivity effect and the optimal amount of pesticides in rice, cotton and maize production in China from the economic perspective. Using survey data col ected in 2012 and 2013, both Cobb-Douglas and Weibul damage control speciifcations are used to estimate the production function. Results show that pesticides have statistical y signiifcant pro-ductivity effect on crop yield. On the condition of Weibul damage control speciifcations, the marginal products of 1 kg of the active ingredients of pesticides for rice, cotton and maize are 71.06, 22.73 and 98.45 kg, respectively. However, 57, 64 and 17%of the actual amount of pesticides are overused for rice, cotton and maize, respectively. Moreover, the productivity effect of pesticides would be overestimated using Cobb-Douglas speciifcation without incorporating a damage control agent. 展开更多

The results show that in Shouguang City,sunshine duration in a year and each season reduced obviously from 1961 to 2013,and sunshine duration in a year and autumn changed suddenly in the 1990s,while sunshine duration in winter and spring changed suddenly in the 1980s. There existed obvious periodic variations of sunshine duration in a year and various seasons from 1961 to 2013. The reduction of sunshine duration and the increase of cloudy days resulted in the decrease in the yield of crops in solar greenhouses,so some effective measures should be taken to enhance the light intensity and time in solar greenhouses to promote crop growth. 展开更多

Variation Characteristics of Hydrothermal Resources Effectiveness Under the Background of Climate Change in Southern Rice Production Area of China 被引量:2

The spatiotemporal characteristics of hydrothermal resources in southern rice production area of China have changed under the background of climate change,and this change would affect the effectiveness of hydrothermal resources during local rice growing period.According to the cropping system subdivision in southern rice production area of China during 1980s,this study used climate data from 254 meteorological stations and phonological data from 168 agricultural observation stations in the south of China,and adopted 6 international evaluation indices about the effectiveness of hydrothermal resources to analyze the temporal and spatial characteristics of hydrothermal resources during the growing period of single cropping rice system and double cropping rice system for 16 planting zones in the whole study area.The results showed that:in southern rice production area of China,the effectiveness of thermal resources of single cropping rice area(SCRA) was less than that of double cropping rice area(DCRA),whereas the effectiveness of thermal resources of both SARA and DCRA showed a decreasing trend.The index value of effective precipitation satisfaction of SCRA was higher than that of DCRA,nevertheless the index value of effective precipitation satisfaction of both SCRA and DCRA showed a decreasing trend.There was a significant linear relationship between effective thermal resource and water demand,likely water demand increased by 18 mm with every 100°C d increase of effective heat.Effective precipitation satisfaction index(EPSI) showed a negative correlation with effective heat,yet showed a positive correlation with effective precipitation.EPSI reduced by 1% when effective heat resource increased by 125°C d.This study could provide insights for policy makers,land managers or farmers to improve water and heat resource uses and rationally arrange rice production activities under global climate change condition. 展开更多

Establishment of ANEDr model for evaluating absorbed-nitrogen effects on wheat dry matter production

Applying mathematic models to evaluate absorbed-N effects on dry matter production at different developmental stages would help determine proper nitrogen management according to crop demands and yield target. Two field trials were carried out for establishing absorbed-N effects on dry matter production(ANEDr) model, using uniform design in 2010–2011and 2012–2013 winter wheat growing seasons in Hebei Province, China. Another field trial was carried out in 2010–2011for model validation. Dry matter and N concentration in leaf and non-leaf organs were measured at setting, jointing, anthesis, and maturity. Theory of best linear unbiased prediction(BLUP) was applied to analyse the N effects of leaf and non-leaf organs on dry matter production. Within ANEDr model, four N-affected phases at each stage were concerned,leaf absorbed-N effect before this stage, non-leaf organ absorbed-N effect before this stage,leaf absorbed-N effect at this stage, and non-leaf organ absorbed-N effect at this stage. In addition, developmental processes, genotype characters and temperature were three factors that determine each N effect. It was demonstrated that ANEDr model can precisely quantify absorbed-N effects on dry matter production with high correlation coefficient(r=0.95). Comparing with other models, ANEDr model considered both leaf and non-leaf organs according to developmental processes of winter wheat, showed higher flexibility and simplicity, thus could be applied to different environments, cultivars and crops after parameter adjustment. 展开更多

Effects of Stylosanthes scabra Forage Supplementation on in Vitro Gas Production and Fiber Degradation of Eragrostis Grass Hay

Natural pastures constitute a major component of ruminant livestock feed, and are the most cost-effective feed resource available for smallholder subsistence farmers. However, this feed resource does not meet animal nutritional requirement due to deficiency in nitrogen, energy and minerals. In addition, at maturity lignification is the major concern since it reduces digestibility and contributes to methane emission. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of supplementing low-quality Eragrostis grass hay with five (9281, 11,252, 11,255, 11,595 and 11,604) selected Stylosanthes scabra accessions on in vitro ruminal fermentation and neutral detergent fiber degradation. Therefore, in vitro study was conducted on grass hay, accessions and the mixture of grass hay with each accession included at two (15%, 30%) levels. The substrates (grass hay, accessions and the mixtures) were incubated in separate serum bottles for 72 h. Neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of the accessions ranged from 300 to 350 g/kg DM with crude protein (CP) value ranging from 177.5 to 184.1 g/kg DM. Eragrostis grass hay had NDF value of 813 g/kg DM, with CP value of 34.3 g/kg DM. Grass hay fermented slowly, it took 30 h for grass hay to produce gas volume above 50 mL, while Stylosanthes scabra accessions took 12 h. Supplementing grass hay with accessions significantly improved fermentation. However, it was observed that 15% inclusion took 30 h to produce gas volume above 50 mL, whereas at 30% inclusions it took 24 h for accession 9281, 11,595 and 11,604. Accession 11,604 improve grass fermentation by almost three times the value of grass hay in 2 h. Grass hay supplemented with accession 11,604 at 30% had a positive associative effect and significantly improved NDF degradability. In conclusion, accession 11,604 may be fed strategically as forage supplement to low-quality forage for ruminants. 展开更多

[Methods] SD rats were fed high-fat diet to establish hyperlipidemia rat models. The hyperlipidemia rats were administered with different processed products of I. hainanensis Merr by gavage to investigate the preventive and therapeutic effects of the medicinal material. [Results] The levels of total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) in the rats fed high-fat diet were significantly higher than those in of the control group(P<0.01), indicating successful modeling. Among different processing methods, the hypolipidemic effects were in the order as baking=traditional processing=frying=microwaving>drying in shade. Among different baking times, the hypolipidemic effects ranked as 180 ℃>200 ℃=220 ℃. Among different baking times, the hypolipidemic effects ranked as 20 min=40 min>30 min. The hypolipidemic effects of processed product of I. hainanensis Merr with different amounts of active ingredients were different. [Conclusions] The processed products of I. hainanensis Merr all had hypolipidemic effects, but the effects were different. Thus, previous studies have failed to effectively mine the value of product information diffusion on social networks. In this study, based on the information diffusion product in consumer self-organized social networks, the control of the product information diffusion process was explored. The node identification principle of the QR code sender designed in this study and the linked list that associated information with specific nodes allowed the acquisition of effective traces in long-chain transmission from the information source to the value nodes, and solved user information disclosure during the transmission process. This method was applied to the tracing system of defective vehicles, achieving accurate recall of defective vehicles. 展开更多

[Objectives] This study was conducted to study the anti-gout effect of Phellodendron amurense and its different processed products.[Methods] Extracts of P. amurense and its different processed products were fed to rats respectively, to observe uric acid and creatinine in the serum and swelling index.[Results] Compared with the data of positive control, P. amurense and the processed products could significantly reduce the high uric acid and creatinine in the serum, and also could resist the swelling in rats.[Conclusions] P. amurense and its processed products showed different degrees of anti-gout effect, and the processing methods were found to have no remarkable impact on this effect. 展开更多

Warming effect of desert and its impact on oasis heat resources and agricultural productivity in arid land,China

This paper provides a positive view of the desert, in terms of the warming effect of deserts on oases and the impact of heat re- sources and agricultural production. We use data from experimental sites in the Manas River Basin in China to characterize these relationships. We note that the warming effect of the desert was found to be significant but gradually reduced with in- creased distance of the oasis from the desert. The range of wanning effect is about 100 km, and the improvement in tempera- ture is about 1.8 ℃. Due to this warming effect, the desert serves as the second heat source for the oasis, which represents one important aspect of the ecologic value of the desert. Our results also show the warming effect has a strong spatial impact on agricultural productivity. Crop productivity fell by about 49 kg/ha with every 10 km increase in distance away from the desert. Our results imply that crop suitability must correspond to the warming effect of the desert. More efficient use of heat resources can contribute towards achieving potential productivity. 展开更多

Galactagogue Effect of <i>Euphorbia hirta</i>(Euphorbiaceae) Aqueous Leaf Extract on Milk Production in Female Wistar Rats

Background: Populations of Gontougo (C?te d’Ivoire) commonly used Euphorbia hirta (Euphorbiaceae) leaves as galactagogue to boost milk production in lactating women. Our study was carried to verify this traditional belief via evaluations of milk production, serum prolactin levels, body weight and mammary lobuloalveolar proliferation induced by the aqueous leaf extract of this medicinal plant in Wistar rats. Methods: 6 groups of 6 virgin rats and 6 groups of 6 lactating rats were used. Each lactating rat was isolated with its six pups. These groups of animals were treated orally with distilled water, Metoclopramide (Metocl 5 mg/kg) and E. hirta aqueous leaf extract (EHae 100, 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg) daily during 17 days of lactation. The indirect method which assimilates the weight gain of untreated pups to the quantity of milk produced by lactating rats was used. At the end of the treatment, histological sections of the abdominal mammary glands of lactating rats were observed. Results: EHae administration induced an increase of milk production in lactating rats. This action of EHae was stronger at the dose of 200 mg/kg. Milk production of the treated rats at a dose of 200 mg/kg was 118.14 ± 1 g. The quantity of milk produced by the control female rats was 83.83 ± 0.88 g. Compared with the control, EHae 200 mg/kg significantly increased milk production (40.92%) (P Conclusion: EHae showed a galactagogue activity illustrated by increases of milk production, PRL secretions and the development of the lobuloalveolar system of the mammary glands in treated female rats. This galactagogue property could partly justify the traditional use of this plant to boost milk production in lactating women. 展开更多
