Human rights are both a hallmark of progress in human civilization and a shared achievement of all civilizations.Throughout history,civilizations,including the Chinese civilization,have continuously explored fundament...Human rights are both a hallmark of progress in human civilization and a shared achievement of all civilizations.Throughout history,civilizations,including the Chinese civilization,have continuously explored fundamental questions about human life,value,and dignity,collectively shaping the foundation of global human rights civilization.On November 20,2024,the International Academic Conference on the Ideas of Human Rights in Ancient Chinese Classics was held at the Yuelu Academy of Hunan University.Attendants explored the historical origin and creative transformation of China’s human rights civilization from four dimensions,namely comparative studies of human rights civilizations in China and abroad,human rights concepts in Confucian classics and historical records,human rights concepts in Chinese philosophical and miscellaneous works,and human rights concepts in legal texts.The conference examined the historical connection between human rights concepts in ancient Chinese classics and the shared values of humanity,aiming to promote global human rights dialogue and mutual learning through civilizational exchanges.By bridging“ancient and modern,East and West,”it illuminated the civilizational foundations and Chinese wisdom underlying global human rights governance.展开更多

Previous studies on translations of Huangdi Neijing(The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic)have focused on English versions;little attention has been given to non-English translations.The present study is the first inves...Previous studies on translations of Huangdi Neijing(The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic)have focused on English versions;little attention has been given to non-English translations.The present study is the first investigation of the reception of the seven Spanish versions of Huangdi Neijing in terms of three parameters:collection records in libraries worldwide;book reviews and citation counts in international journals;and customer reviews on Amazon.The results revealed four features of Spanish translations and communication of Huangdi Neijing in terms of reception of academia,reception of general readers,the center of translation and communication,and the role of Chinese scholars.These factors demonstrate the marginal status of Spanish translations of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)classics.The implications are summarized in hopes of promoting the translation and communication of TCM classics in the Spanish-speaking world and to provide insights into the communication of TCM culture in the non-English-speaking world.展开更多

In this paper, we revise the comic books adaptations dealing with ancient Greek classics and classify them according to ＂the fidelity criterion-dilemma＂, to the kind of reader they imply and to the extent of authorial mastery they impose. For the successful access of the translation text into the target culture, the translator has to make choices between two languages, texts and cultures, etc.. Thus the translation norms are revealed. This paper shows the operation of translation norms as seen from the English version of Chinese classics by KU Hung-ming and analyzes why KU Hung-ming＇s translation of Confucian classics such as Lun Yu and Zhong Yong enjoyed greater popularity among Western readers than the translation of Western missionaries. The paper also holds that the unfaithful translations regarded by a source text-oriented approach were actually where KU was most successful in implementing his translation strategies to achieve expressiveness.展开更多
