In tensor theory, the parallel factorization (PARAFAC)decomposition expresses a tensor as the sum of a set of rank-1tensors. By carrying out this numerical decomposition, mixedsources can be separated or unknown system parameters can beidentified, which is the so-called blind source separation or blindidentification. In this paper we propose a numerical PARAFACdecomposition algorithm. Compared to traditional algorithms, wespeed up the decomposition in several aspects, i.e., search di-rection by extrapolation, suboptimal step size by Gauss-Newtonapproximation, and linear search by n steps. The algorithm is ap-plied to polarization sensitive array parameter estimation to showits usefulness. Simulations verify the correctness and performanceof the proposed numerical techniques. 展开更多

Characterization of real-time and ultrafast motions of the complex molecules at surface and interface is critical to understand how interracial molecules function. It requires to develop surface-sensitive, fast-identification, and time-resolved techniques. In this study, we employ several key technical procedures and successfully develop a highly sensitive femtosecond time-resolved sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy (SFG-VS) system. This system is able to measure the spectra with two polarization combinations (ssp and ppp, or psp and ssp) simultaneously. It takes less than several seconds to collect one spectrum. To the best of our knowledge, it is the fastest speed of collecting SFG spectra reported by now. Using the time-resolved measurement, ultrafast vibrational dynamics of the N-H mode of α-helical peptide at water interface is determined. It is found that the membrane environment does not affect the N-H vibrational relaxation dynamics. It is expected that the time-resolved SFG system will play a vital role in the deep understanding of the dynamics and interaction of the complex molecules at surface and interface. Our method may also provide an important technical proposal for the people who plan to develop time-resolved SFG systems with simultaneous measurement of multiple polarization combinations. 展开更多

Comparative study on the power scaling performance of three different coherent polarization beam combination system structures

In order to extend the CPBC system to a large scale, we provide a comparative study on the power scaling performance of three different coherent polarization beam combination system structures. It is found that the pairwise structure has high tolerance to aberrations and has the potential to extend to a large scale with high combining efficiency. In consideration of all the aberrations, the combining efficiency of the pairwise structure can be attained as high as 90% when the combined beams are more than 200. Some instructive suggestions are given to extend the CPBC system to a large scale. 展开更多

According to two fundamental assumptions in compact polarimetric reconstruction, two improvements are proposed. Firstly, the four-component model-based decomposition algorithm is modified with a new volume scattering model. The decomposed helix scattering component is then used to deal with the non-reflection symmetry condition in compact polarimetric measurements. Using the decomposed power and considering the scattering mechanism of each component, an average relationship between copolarized and crosspolarized channels is developed over the original polarization state extrapolation model. E-SAR polarimetric data acquired over the Oberpfaffenhofen area and JPL/AIRSAR polarimetric data acquired over San Francisco are used for verification, and good reconstruction results are obtained, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

The problem of joint direction of arrival(DOA)and polarization estimation for polarization sensitive coprime planar arrays(PS-CPAs)is investigated,and a fast-convergence quadrilinear decomposition approach is proposed.Specifically,we first decompose the PS-CPA into two sparse polarization sensitive uniform planar subarrays and employ propagator method(PM)to construct the initial steering matrices separately.Then we arrange the received signals into two quadrilinear models so that the potential DOA and polarization estimates can be attained via quadrilinear alternating least square(QALS).Subsequently,we distinguish the true DOA estimates from the approximate intersecting estimations of the two subarrays in view of the coprime feature.Finally,the polarization estimates paired with DOA can be obtained.In contrast to the conventional QALS algorithm,the proposed approach can remarkably reduce the computational complexity without degrading the estimation performance.Simulations demonstrate the superiority of the proposed fast-convergence approach for PS-CPAs. 展开更多

Improvement of the prediction accuracy of polar motion using empirical mode decomposition 被引量:2

Previous studies revealed that the error of pole coordinate prediction will significantly increase for a prediction period longer than 100 days, and this is mainly caused by short period oscillations. Empirical mode decomposition (EMD), which is increasingly popular and has advantages over classical wavelet decomposition, can be used to remove short period variations from observed time series of pole co- ordinates. A hybrid model combing EMD and extreme learning machine (ELM), where high frequency signals are removed and processed time series is then modeled and predicted, is summarized in this paper. The prediction performance of the hybrid model is compared with that of the ELM-only method created from original time series. The results show that the proposed hybrid model outperforms the pure ELM method for both short-term and long-term prediction of pole coordinates. The improvement of prediction accuracy up to 360 days in the future is found to be 24.91% and 26.79% on average in terms of mean absolute error (MAE) for the xp and yp components of pole coordinates, respectively. 展开更多

The vectorial evolution of light polarization can reveal the microstructure and anisotropy of a medium beyond what can be obtained from measuring light intensity alone.However,polarization imaging in reflection geometry,which is ubiquitous and often preferred in diverse applications,has often suffered from poor and even incorrect characterization of anisotropic media.We present reciprocal polarization imaging of complex media in reflection geometry with the reciprocal polar decomposition of backscattering Mueller matrices enforcing reciprocity.We demonstrate that reciprocal polarization imaging of complex chiral and anisotropic media ac-curately quantifies their anisotropic properties in reflection geometry,whereas traditional approaches encounter difficulties and produce inferior and often erroneous results from the violation of reciprocity.In particular,reciprocal polarization imaging provides a consistent characterization of complex media of different thicknesses,accurately measures the optical activity and glucose concentration of turbid media in reflection,and discriminates between cancerous and normal tissue with even stronger contrast than forward measurement.Reciprocal polarization imaging promises broad applications of polarization optics ranging from remote sensing to bio-medicine in reflection geometries,especially in in vivo biomedical imaging,where reflection is the only feasible geometry. 展开更多

The Mueller matrix polar decomposition method decomposes a Mueller matrix into a diattenuator,a retarder,and a depolarizer.Among these elements,the retarder,which plays a key role in medical and material characterization,is usually modelled as a circular retarder followed by a linear retarder.However,this model may not accurately reflect the actual structure of the retarder in certain cases as many practical retarders do not have a layered structure or consist of multiple(unknown)layers.Misinterpretation,therefore,may occur when the actual structure differs from the model.Here,we circumvent this limitation by proposing to use an elliptical retarder parameter set that includes the axis orientation angleφ,the degree of ellipticityχ,and the elliptical retardanceρ.By working with this set of parameters,an overall characterization of any retarder is provided,encompassing its full optical response without making any assumptions about the structure of the material.In this study,experiments were carried out on liquid crystalline samples to validate the feasibility of our approach,demonstrating that the elliptical retarder parameter set adopted provides a useful tool for a broader range of applications in optical material analysis. 展开更多

A kind of beam-scanning algorithm of variable polarization millimeter array antenna based on the phased array technology is put forward in this paper. The algorithm can be successfully applied to deal with beam directivities inconsistency of millimeter wave/infrared( MMW/IR ) multimode detector, it can keep electric axis and optical axis coincident. Accordingly, this method can decrease the data fusion difficulty and improve the accuracy of angle measurement. Simulation results show that variable polarization millimeter array antenna has flexible beam-scanning abibility within ±0.5° after the algorithm was adopted, simultaneously, antenna polarization purity is better than 20 dB within the half power beamwidth, sidelobe imbalance keeps high available and antenna gain of the sum beam is over 26.8 dB. 展开更多

In this paper. we focus our attention on use of a combination of techniques to solve each subproblem. The central question with DDM is that of how to doal with the pseodoboundary conditions. Here, we introduce a set of operators which act on the pseudo-boundaries in the solution process, referring to this new. procedure as the 'Generalized Domain Decomposition A.Jlethod(GDDM).' We have already obtained convergence factors for GDDM with certain classes of PDE's. These ctonvergence factors show that we can derive exact solutions of the whole problem for certain types of PDE's, and can get superior speed of convergence for other types. 展开更多

The physical decomposition method separates atmospheric variables into four parts, correlating each with solar radiation, land-sea distribution, and inter-annual and seasonal internal forcing, strengthening the anomaly signal and increasing the correlation between variables. This method was applied to the reanalysis data from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction/National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR), to study the effects of Arctic factors (Arctic oscillation (AO) and Arctic polar vortex) on wintertime temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere and China. It was fotmd that AO effects on zonal average temperature disturbance could persist for 1 month. In the AO negative phase in wintertime, the temperatures are lower in the mid-high latitudes than in normal years, but higher in low latitudes. When the polar vortex area is bigger, the zonal average temperature is lower at 50N. Influenced mainly by meridional circulation enhancement, cold air flows from high to low latitudes; thus, the temperatures in Continental Europe and the North American continent exhibit an antiphase seesaw relationship. When the AO is in negative phase and the Arctic polar vortex larger, the temperature is lower in Siberia, but higher in Greenland and the Bering Strait. Influenced by westerly troughs and ridges, the polar air disperses mainly along the tracks of atmospheric activity centers. The AO index can be considered a predictor of wintertime temperature in China. When the AO is in negative phase or the Asian polar vortex is intensified, temperatures in Northeast China and Inner Mongolia are lower, because under the influence of the Siberia High and northeast cold vortex, the cold air flows southwards. 展开更多

The two-color circularly polarized pulses scheme was proposed to generate isolated attosecond pulses in our previous work [Phys. Rev. A 87 (2013) 043406], while the polarization of the attosecond pulse was not investigated. We show a supplementary explanation of this scheme and present another scheme to generate linear isolated attosecond pulses by combining a circularly polarized pulse with an elliptically polarized pulse. High-order harmonic generation and quantum path control are investigated to compare these two schemes. Both schemes can obtain supercontinuum spectra plateau from about 200eV to 550eV, which belong to the water window region. It is found that the latter scheme can clearly eliminate the short quantum path and extend the harmonic plateau. A linear isolated attosecond pulse with a duration of sub-6Oas can be generated by superposing a bandwidth of 70eV. 展开更多

The heat flow curve of BNT powder was measured with a modulated temperature differential scanning calorimeter, and thermal physical parameters such as thermal conductivity coefficient and thermal diffusion coefficient were obtained from the heat flow curve. The phase identification, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties of BNT thin film annealed at 700℃ were investigated with X-ray diffractometer, ferroelectric analyzer, and scanning probe microscope. The results show that the thin films consisting of a single phase of bismuth-layered perovskite are polycrystalline, without a preferred orientation. The paper consists in the use of some logical functions decomposition algorithms with application in the implementation of classical circuits like SSI, MSI and PLD. The decomposition methods use the Boolean matrix calculation. It is calculated the implementation costs emphasizing the most economical solutions. One important aspect of serial decomposition is the task of selecting “best candidate” variables for the G function. Decomposition is essentially a process of substituting two or more input variables with a lesser number of new variables. This substitutes results in the reduction of the number of rows in the truth table. Hence, we look for variables which are most likely to reduce the number of rows in the truth table as a result of decomposition. Let us consider an input variable purposely avoiding all inter-relationships among the input variables. The only available parameter to evaluate its activity is the number of “l”s or “O”s that it has in the truth table. If the variable has only “1” s or “0” s, it is the “best candidate” for decomposition, as it is practically redundant. 展开更多
